Please let me be the first to say hello and welcome to our inaugural issue of nearlywed! Words cannot express how thrilled and excited I am to be writing this letter! Launching nearlywed has personally and professionally been one of my most challenging and rewarding achievements.
When I decided 18 months ago to expand from covering West Michigan as Grand Rapids Bride to covering the entire state, I certainly didn’t have any idea what a journey it would be. Let’s just say I’ve felt every emotion possible — ending with complete joy that you are finally holding this issue!
The past 18 months have taken us from a team of one (it’s me, I was the one) to a team of six amazing professionals. The dedication of this group of people has been the greatest part of the journey. And to each of them I owe all my gratitude:
Rebecca Voigt, our Editor, took an idea and turned it into the most elevated and elegant vision that exceeded anything I could have dreamed up. I will forever be grateful to her for constantly making us a better version of ourselves.
Haley Bieniewicz, our Social Media Manager, has curated an audience of loyal followers who show up consistently to be a part of our story. Her ability to create content that makes people love us is unparalleled and we are so grateful for her creativity and insights.
Shalee Super, our Digital Director, makes the complicated stuff look easy. Her knowledge of all things digital has given us the ability to give our readers, visitors, and followers so much valuable content in the formats and platforms on which our audience lives.
Jim Nissen, our Design Director, has taken his 30 years of magazine design experience and created the ultimate combination of high fashion editorial meets sourcebook — all while making it look easy.
Jim’s enthusiasm is contagious and his dedication to “do whatever it takes” is rare.
Jake Stroburg, our Director of Business Development (and, more importantly, my husband), has provided the guidance, support, and invaluable insight over the past 23 years that have given me the confidence to get here. Thank you love.
As you flip through the pages of our first issue, please know that we have continually had YOU in mind when creating this brand. We want you to always feel inspired, find excitement, become more educated, and mostly find connection with the perfect vendors for your perfect day. We are so grateful to have you here and hope we exceed your expectations with what we have created!

Welcome to nearlywed! Creating the debut issue of this magazine has been a true labor of love, and what started as a dream — a vision of creating a magazine that would inspire and delight couples planning their perfect Michigan wedding — is now a reality. Our hearts and souls are in every page of this magazine, and we’re honored to be part of your wedding planning journey.
Wherever you are in the planning process — from just starting to look at engagement rings to selecting your vendor team to finalizing the details of your walk down the aisle — in our pages you’ll find a wealth of ideas and inspiration to help you tell your unique love story. To start, we bring you Something New (page 18), where we share what’s happening now and next in the wedding world, including a professional dog trainer who will help your pup be part of your wedding day, a bridal shop with a powerful mission, and ideas for adding cannabis to your wedding bar service. Next, we help you plan all the details of your day with stories on everything from creative menu cards (page 25) and out-of-this world florals (page 28) to honeymoon-ready rental cabins curated by blogger Gina Valente of Moody Cabin Girl (page 30).
Turn to our features and the inspiration goes into overdrive. For “Garden of Delights” (page 50) we worked with some of the state’s most talented cake artists and Abby Rosenbaum of Abby Rose Photo and StudioStudio to create a floating flora, confectionary dreamscape. If you’re on the fence about wearing a veil for your wedding day, don’t miss “La Voilette” (page 58). If fashion photographer Michelle Cuppy’s stunning images don’t convince you to say yes to a veil, we don’t if anything will. Finally, for our cover story, “Lavender Haze” (page 36), we sweep you away to Lavender Hill Farm in Northern Michigan for a look at some truly exquisite wedding gowns. Photographed by award-winning photographer Lians Jadan, the Provençal vibes are undeniably romantic.
Speaking of romance, this issue features some insanely gorgeous real weddings. From our featured couple, Pia and Matt’s, vibrant, family-focused celebration (page 66) to more than 40 pages of wedding galleries (page 74), these Michigan weddings all have one thing in common — they are beautiful celebrations of each couple’s individual love story.
After all, celebrating love stories — theirs and YOURS — is why we created nearlywed. Thank you for joining us on this journey.

Q&A: Wags & Weddings
For couples who want their dogs at their wedding but also want peace of mind that their pet is in good hands while they say “I Do,” Ally Fuhs of Captivated Canine is the answer. Here we chat with Fuhs, a dog trainer based in metro Grand Rapids, about how she got her start, her unique Wags & Weddings service, and what to consider when inviting your pets to your celebration.
Tell me about Captivated Canine — how did you become a dog trainer?
Dog training found me six years ago and became the happiest accident. My degree is in social work and psychology. When I first graduated, I worked with teenagers in a rehabilitative setting and quickly decided to get a dog to train for therapy work with my clients. I set out to research and find a trainer who could help me achieve this goal. When I got my puppy and began training classes, I fell in love with the process. I started volunteering as an assistant trainer, and a few months later I was offered a position as a dog trainer for a pet store. I built up my skills there for a couple years and when the pandemic hit, I decided to branch off and create a business offering in-home private training lessons. Since then, we have grown and partnered with several other local businesses. We now offer private training sessions, group classes, day train lessons, and Wags & Weddings.
W hat is ‘Wags & Weddings’ and what inspired you to offer this service?
In the first year of starting Captivated Canine, I had a number of good friends getting married. Some of those friends had dogs they wanted to be in their weddings. Since I have experience with dog training, I offered to handle their pets for their wedding events. I ended up taking photos throughout and posting them online. They quickly went viral and I had a number of people reaching out to me asking how their pets could be in their weddings too. Wags & Weddings was created to fill this growing need.
How does the service work and what does it provide?
My goal is to make it simple and effortless to choose to have your pets attend your wedding. I provide transportation, pet wedding attire from tuxedos to flower crowns, posing for photos, and of course keeping pets well behaved throughout the event. Every wedding package includes a consultation where we can meet a month or so before the wedding day to discuss the timeline, vision, and of course to ensure the pets are comfortable with me. Every wedding is a little different. Some couples would love their dogs in the ceremony, wedding party photos, and featured entertainment for cocktail hour while others are just looking to have the pets there for quick family photos. Whatever the vision is for your pets at your wedding, I want to make it as easy as possible.
W hat are a few important things couples should keep in mind when including their dogs in their wedding?
The most important thing is to ensure your venue is dog friendly — many venues are, but they may also have rules about dogs being off property by the time food is served. It is very helpful for couples to consider how their dog does with crowds and high energy environments. For more sensitive, nervous pups, having some quiet family photos away from the ceremony space can be ideal. For happy-go-lucky dogs, they might even be featured entertainment for the cocktail hour. Get creative and make it your own. I am happy to help provide ideas based on your dogs’ personality and needs. We know how important it is for all your loved ones to be there for your special day — let us handle the furry ones!

Party People
WhenLauren Daley and Sarah Gahlau met in preschool, their instant, enduring friendship set them on the path to creating a business built around celebrating brides-to-be.
“Growing up, we went to each other’s birthday parties, hosted tea parties together, and even rocked matching bangs and denim jumpers,” Daley says. “Looking back, our childhood was really just a huge sign of what our adult lives would look like — still celebrating every birthday together, our tea parties have now changed to bachelorette parties, and our matching jumpers have escalated to matching pink blazer dresses.”
It was while serving as each other’s maids-of-honor during their 2020 and 2021 weddings that the idea for Daley and Gahlau’s bachelorette party planning service, MI Bachelorette, was born. Through the process of planning destination bachelorette parties for each other, the duo “fell in love with party planning and all the little details that make celebrating a bride-to-be so special,” Gahlau says. “We realized how much planning it takes to successfully execute
an Instagramable bachelorette. Packing suitcases full of décor and accessories, then spending hours decorating the Airbnb while trying to pull off the perfect surprise for the bride really got us thinking.”
Since launching the business in July 2022, Daley and Gahlau have planned and decorated parties across the state and shipped their all-in-one party kits, called Bach Boxes, to the most popular bachelorette destinations across the country. Not only do they offer décor, accessories, and itineraries, they’ve also partnered with several womenowned businesses to bring their clients discounts and unique experiences to create core memories for the bride and her guests.
“There’s something so special about planning a once-in-a-lifetime weekend because a girl only gets one bachelorette party,” Daley says. “Curating themes, itineraries and little details that are personalized for the bride-to-be is one of my favorite parts of our job.”

Sometimes a wedding dress is more than just a dress. Jessica Brooks, owner of The Dress Shop in Howell, began raising funds in 2022 to support the fight against human trafficking. Now, $100 from every dress sold is donated to Operation Underground Railroad, an organization dedicated to fighting child sex trafficking and sexual exploitation around the globe. “While we can’t save these victims ourselves, we can donate crucial funds necessary to allow the heroes of this battle to continue their rescue operations,” Brooks says in a statement on her website. Cannabis-Infused Beverages Dressed for a Cause
Since recreational marijuana was made legal in Michigan, cannabis weddings have become a budding trend across the state. For couples looking to embrace their enjoyment of cannabis without smoking out their guests, CBD- and THC-infused beverages are an excellent addition to their wedding bar service. Mount Clemens-based Emerald Canning Partners (emeraldcanningpartners.com) bottles Highly Casual, a low dose, nano-emulsified, THC-infused natural seltzer available in a variety of doses and flavors, including Blueberry Pineapple, Lemon Lime, and Strawberry Watermelon. For summer 2023, ECP launched Pleasantea, a nanoemulsified cannabis iced tea available in Lemon, Peach, and Raspberry. Another seltzer option, WYNK (drinkwynk.com) combines equal parts THC and CBD for a light, bubbly buzz available in three flavors: Black Cherry Fizz, Lime Twist, and Juicy Mango. For a plant-based mocktail that will help you feel fun and relaxed without the THC, Little Saints (littlesaints.com) infuses their Negroni Spritz, Spicy Margarita, Paloma, and Ginger Mule mocktails with a signature blend of CBD, terpenes, and reishi mushroom.
Petite Sweets
Le Bon Macaron’s signature sweet treats have come to Holland. The latest addition to the family-owned business opened its doors in March 2023, joining locations in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor. Stop into the shop for macaron flavors like salted dark chocolate, raspberry crème brûlée, honey lavender, and more. Le Bon Macaron also offers wedding services such as macaron celebration favors and macaron towers that hold up to 180 cookies. For truly one-of-a-kind wedding treats, they also offer custom printing and can print anything onto your macarons.

Lock & Key
30ml Dromme Calm
30ml Spiritless Kentucky 74
30ml The Pathfinder
15ml Lemon Juice
2ml All The Bitter Orange
A perfect nightcap, the Lock & Key is like “a Paper Plane crashing into an Old Fashioned, but is also very much its own concoction,” says Chad Clark of More or Less NA Bottles & Beer in Grand Rapids. The Kentucky 74 brings the familiar taste of bourbon while The Pathfinder adds a bitter brightness along with notes of anise, wood, earth, and Douglas fir. Dromme Calm lends the cocktail some sweetness from maple syrup, as well as depth from spicy ginger, clove, and licorice root. All The Bitter Orange continues to add depth and a bright zesty component. This cocktail has a unique calming element from hemp, Valerian Root, Lion’s Mane, Lemon Balm, Ashwagandha, and L-Theanine.
“It’s a perfect nightcap for relaxing with good company,” Clark says.

Patricia Carruth designs custom one-of-a-kind jewelry inspired by each couple’s love story
By Giuseppa Nadrowski
WhenPatricia Carruth was a little girl, she often found herself dreaming about the stories behind the glimmering gold treasures shining among the cases of her grandfather’s fine jewelry pawn shop, The Gold Mine — an icon of Detroit’s East Side.
“I used to love going to his store and looking at all the jewelry. I’ve always been a storyteller,” she says. A self-proclaimed “lover of love,” Carruth at one time wanted to become a wedding planner, but after planning her own nuptials realized it was “a little bit too chaotic.” Wanting to marry her passions for fine jewelry and love of weddings, Carruth, who also worked at a jewelry store throughout college, launched Your Personal Jeweler in 2019. The Royal Oak-based boutique, with Carruth as lead designer, specializes in custom engagement rings and wedding bands and also offers proposal planning for those looking for a bit of help in orchestrating that memorable moment.
Here, we chat with Carruth about what inspires her, the advice she gives her couples, and more.
Nearlywed: You create stunning one-of-a-kind jewelry. Where do you find your inspiration?
Patricia Carruth: Through couples’ love stories. When you go to a traditional jewelry store, you have to look through their showcases and try to pick a ring that best suits you. I work backwards. I have sample pieces in store that they can come in and see what is drawn to them. Then we kind of combine all the different aspects of the rings that they like to create one that’s unique for them, adding personalized or sentimental details to really make the ring a one-of-akind, heirloom piece.
N: Can you give us some insight on the process of making custom jewelry, especially pertaining to nearlyweds — from what you discuss with them to how long it takes to create these designs?
PC: I feel that both people should be included in the process because it’s about their love story. When you come in for an initial consultation, we kind of go
over your style, your likes, your dislikes, and try to figure out how to incorporate everything into your dream ring. Once you’ve decided on that, I do a CAD design where you will get a computergenerated image to show you what it’s going to look like before we proceed. Once that’s approved, I print out a resin sample that will give you a fit idea of what the piece is going to look like. That process normally takes a week to two weeks. And then once the stones have been selected, it takes around three to four weeks, up to six weeks, depending on the intricacies of the rings, to be completed.
N: What is it like working with couples to create such important and meaningful pieces, and do you have any advice or wisdom you’d like to share with them during the process?
PC: The best advice I can give is to listen to your partner, and that’s on both sides — the person who’s paying for the ring and the person who’s receiving it. There’s a
lot of different ways that we can take your idea and make it affordable within your budget. A lot of people are unfamiliar with lab grown diamonds, but lab grown diamonds are a great, affordable way of getting the size and the look of a diamond that you want, without breaking the bank. Lab grown diamonds are real — physically, chemically, and optically. The easiest example I give people to explain it is ice. On a cold Michigan day, you can walk outside and see an icicle and then you can come inside your house and get ice out of the fridge. The only difference is how it was created.
N: What do you think it is about Your Personal Jeweler that truly makes it a unique destination?
PC: The personal aspect of it. Before we even start looking at rings, I sit down and I talk to my couples. I want to hear their love story and what’s most important to them so that I can find a way to incorporate it into the ring.

Elevate your wedding menu cards with bespoke ribbons indicating each entrée
By Rebecca Voigt
F
ile this under ideas we love — these gorgeous wedding menu cards, designed by La Rue Pulido of Little Carabao Studio, were personalized with the guests’ names and color-coordinated ribbons to indicate their entrée selections.
“It’s the first time I used this method for a project,” Pulido
says. “My favorite thing about creating these menus — besides making the artwork — was the assembly process. It’s tedious but it allowed me to slow down and appreciate their beauty.”
For these menus, the Oahu, Hawaii-based calligrapher and artist was asked to incorporate

“I love making their stationery vision come to life.”
the gardens at her client’s venue, Greencrest Manor Estate in Battle Creek, into the design. Using soft pastels and an impressionist style of painting, Pulido created artwork that was used for the couple’s invitation envelope liners and also printed on vellum paper for the overlay
on the menu cards. Each guest’s name was handwritten in gold calligraphy ink, and the silk ribbons were dyed, torn, and frayed by hand.

Anna Warner-Mayes is fighting cancer one lipstick at a time
By Blake Miller
Anna Warner-Mayes has seen it all. Back in 2008 when the former singer and mom of five was first diagnosed with thyroid cancer, she never imagined that her cancer journey would inspire her to become a successful entrepreneur.
Although singing wasn’t her full-time job, Warner-Mayes sang at church, sporting events, weddings, performed a couple radio jingles, and was once flown to New York as a finalist to play the lead in Miss Saigon on a national tour. But her battle with cancer resulted in a severed nerve to her vocal cord, leaving her unable to sing again.
“I didn’t have a voice for six months, and that’s when I started going to Sephora and Macy’s and Nordstrom and started trying on lipsticks,” says Warner-Mayes, a now 10-year cancer survivor.
During her multiple bouts with cancer, Warner-Mayes found comfort in makeup, specifically lipstick. She saw it as a way to express her emotions despite her inability to talk. “My cancer diagnosis at the time wasn’t great. I’d lost my voice. I couldn’t sing anymore. I was in a dark place,” she explains. “I realized that in the times where I couldn’t speak or didn’t want to speak, lipstick was how I expressed myself. It was my language. If I was wearing red lipstick it was because I felt confident and felt I could beat the cancer.”
Wanting other women to feel the same, Warner-Mayes created The Lipstick Journey, a line of bespoke liquid and cream lipsticks. “It took 18 months of working with a cosmetic chemist to perfect the color and texture of each lipstick, but we finally got it right,” she says. Beautiful hues such as Brave, a bold red; Fresh, a soft nude pink; and Strong, a deep berry plum, reflect just a handful of the emotions those battling cancer go through.
Giving back to those fighting cancer as well as cancer survivors is the core of everything Warner-Mayes does. For every lipstick she sells, she donates one to someone who is fighting or surviving cancer. Through the sale of The Lipstick Journey’s products, Warner-Mayes has also donated to organizations dedicated to fighting cancer, including Imerman Angels, Fighting Pretty, and Twist Out Cancer.
“This is part of my quest to help cancer thrivers not feel alone in their journey because it’s helped me not feel alone in mine,” she says. “Every time I feel like I can’t do this anymore or it’s too hard or I’m tired, I remember why I started this.”

Otherworldly Flora Floral artist Lindsay McWhorter combines unexpected elements for designs unlike anything you’ve seen before
By Giuseppa Nadrowski
Photography by Erin Schmidt
Lindsay McWhorter, owner and creative director of metro Detroit-based Niche Hitch — a boundary-pushing, experimental, and eclectically cool floral art and styling studio — does it all.
Serving clients in both metro Detroit and California’s Joshua Tree and Palm Springs communities, McWhorter designs unique floral art for weddings and events, editorial shoots, and installations in businesses and residences. Her use of both fresh and preserved florals mixed with unexpected fibrous elements have given her designs a look distinctly her own.
It all began at the age of 17 when she took a job in the floral department of Livonia’s Westborn Market. After graduating from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in apparel, textiles, and merchandising with a minor in fibers, McWhorter continued to work with florals at Westborn.
Soon the desire to find an outlet for her love of design prompted her to move to Joshua Tree, a small town in California with a passion for the arts, and in 2015, Niche Hitch was born.
“I purchased a trailer and I was selling florals out of it,” says McWhorter, whose vintage trailer still resides in California for events.
“I lived really close to Joshua Tree National Park, which is a huge destination for elopement. That was also a play on the word ‘Hitch’ because people go there to get hitched and that’s how I got my start — designing smaller, intimate elopement weddings.”
Today, McWhorter — who moved back to Michigan in 2018 — is known for her signature floral styling that embraces the non-traditional while mimicking the “organic movements of what’s found in nature.” McWhorter
combines long-lasting tropical flowers like anthurium, protea, and heliconia with her “love of fresh flowers that look like they’re from another planet,” such as gloriosa lilies, cobra lilies, fritillaria, bat flowers, bleeding hearts, and rare species of orchids.
With her background in fashion and fibers, McWhorter often draws inspiration from the apparel industry, seamlessly interlacing eclectic nonfloral elements like mylar, ribbons, tinsel, synthetic hair, tulle, cotton, and ostrich feathers into her compositions.
A reflection of her days styling florals in the dry desert, her use of preserved flowers has garnered much attention in the industry. From dried clematis and amaranthus to palm leaves, branches, grasses, smoke bush, and so much more, McWhorter says working with these dried beauties “allows you to make something that is more permanent and sculptural. It becomes an art piece instead of just a floral arrangement.”
For weddings, McWhorter’s dried bouquets and tabletop arrangements offer a bounty of benefits, including a ready-made preserved bouquet. “A lot of brides want to keep their bouquets,” she says. “I make bouquets oftentimes that are already preserved, so it’s dry and they can just keep it as is.”
Future plans for McWhorter include collaborating with her partner, ceramic artist Bobby Leo Veresan, to create vases and candelabras for those looking to add personalized and curated tablescapes to their events. She’s also considering relocating her vintage trailer to Detroit for interactive floral pop-ups. Wherever you find them, McWhorter’s otherworldly designs are not to be missed.

The Homestead in Mountain, Wis., is a perfect selection for eco-conscious newlyweds. This one-of-a-kind eco-lodge is run entirely off solar energy. The property covers 600 feet of the Oconto River and is completely surrounded by forest. Instead of air conditioning, cool off with a jump in the river. Rather than watch TV, play cards on the upper deck or take a hike through the woods. The cabin interior looks like something out of a fairy tale with marble and oak floors and cedar cathedral ceilings. This vacation home is an eco-friendly marvel well-fitted for honeymooners looking to stay green.

The
clouds parted and the sun came out for Pia and Matt’s family-focused wedding celebration
By Angela Flynn | Photography by Rosy & Shaun
May 22, 2022 started out with overcast skies, but as Pia Sengupta and Matthew Mackey commenced their wedding on that spring day, the clouds opened up and the sun shined onto the couple.
It was by chance that the weather let up, just like it was by chance that the couple met on their first day of medical school about five years ago. They started dating soon after, and in April 2021, Matthew popped the question while they were vacationing in Clearwater, Fla.
They decided to slowly enter the wedding planning process. “ We gave it about a month before we started
even thinking about speaking to vendors or anything like that,” Pia says. “We did ease into it, and we definitely co-opted family to help with the planning as well.”
Enlisting family support helped take a portion of the work (and stress) out of planning. “We were very lucky to have our family to help,” Pia says. “For example, my mom would use her best judgment to speak with the florist. It streamlined the planning and made things easier.” Matthew’s family also used their talents to contribute to the wedding — his dad brewed a custom batch of beer as a gift for wedding guests, helping the couple check one more item off their list.
featured wedding
One takeaway from the process that Pia shares with couples planning their own weddings: have the big conversations before seeking out venues and vendors.
“[Matthew] and I had a conversation at the very beginning about the things that we really cared about — the non-negotiables,” Pia says. “For us, it ended up being the food, the Indian elements of the ceremony, and also having a really nice dance floor.”
The couple incorporated several different Indian traditions into their three-day celebration. On the first day, Pia and Matthew accepted small gifts from each of
their parents that they would use in their married life. Day two was the Mehndi, which is a party for guests to mingle with one another, and typically, the bride and female guests will receive henna.
“It was at my parents’ house, so it was a little more casual,” Pia says. “You have friends and family from all different parts of your life walking through the house. You got to see Matt’s college friends talking to my uncle, and I’m like, ‘When will this ever happen again?’”
As an added surprise, Matthew had learned an entire song in Bengali and sang it to Pia at the Mehndi.
“I was not expecting it,” she says. “It was very, very sweet and I was so impressed!”
The celebrations concluded on May 22, when Pia and Matthew were married at Shepherd’s Hollow Golf Club in Clarkston. “It was such a beautiful day,” Pia says. “It had been a little darker previously in the day, but as the ceremony was happening, it became sunny and I just thought it was really beautiful.”
The Indian traditions mostly ended once the reception began, but Matthew and Pia did have a surprise for their guests — a fully choreographed routine for their first dance.
“I think this was my favorite thing in the entire wedding,” Pia says. “Matt and I both love dancing, and we spent almost our entire engagement coming up with a first dance. We had a dance instructor and it was so fun getting to do that in front of our whole family.”
While Pia and Matthew are temporarily living apart as they work through their medical school residency programs, they are enjoying married life and reflecting on their vibrant three-day celebration.
“It is a little challenging to live in different places, but being married is great,” she says. “That part of it is my favorite.”

Zingerman’s Cornman Farms
There’s something about Zingerman’s Cornman Farms — a multi-awardwinning, chef-led event space, wedding venue and working farm in Dexter — that feels like home. Something warmly nostalgic. Maybe it’s the classic red barn, or the picture-perfect white farmhouse. Perhaps it’s the big maple trees, sunflowers or sweeping lawn. Maybe it’s the smell of fresh-baked bread pudding wafting out of our farmhouse kitchen. What matters most is this: you’ll feel right at home here. What could be more important on your most special day?
Located on 27 beautiful acres, Zingerman’s Cornman Farms and its venues were restored from their 1834 foundations with the most discerning guests in mind. Featuring a beautiful exhibition kitchen, chef’s garden, a classic farmhouse and four-season barn, guests can enjoy the beauty of the countryside just minutes from downtown Ann Arbor.
Our team will work with you to create a custom experience that’s perfectly suited to your vision. Cornman Farms offers inclusive wedding packages for intimate celebrations for four to 75 guests. We’re experts
at planning and hosting events of all kinds — especially if they involve gathering around fantastic, farm-to-table food. That’s exactly why Chef Kieron Hales reimagined this historic property as an event venue with an emphasis on excellent food. The way we see it, nothing brings a family, a team, or community together like good food.
Time and time again, we hear from people who celebrate with us that we come to feel like an extension of their family — and to us, there’s no greater compliment. After all, weddings and other momentous occasions are about family — the one you’re born into, the one you join by marriage, and the one you create for yourself. At Cornman Farms, we want to be more than the backdrop to your most important day. That’s why we put so much love and care into making your wedding perfect. We understand that the little details are what make your day distinctly, undeniably yours, so from the time you reach out to us through your event and beyond, we take the little things just as seriously as you do. We’ll take care of everything for your wedding, giving you the chance to relax and be fully present for every magical moment.

We have no restrictions on your choice of caterer, both food and beverage — a perk not many venues offer. On the lower level, you will find spacious groom and bridal lounges. Laughter will meld with the sounds of the water. And memories, wonderful memories, will be made. The venues differ, the experience doesn’t. Each is uniquely beautiful. So you and your guests will be relaxed and comfortable. And your day — your unique day, your perfect day — will be made.

Ceremony + Reception
You’re Finally Married!
So, how do you change your name?
Wondering how to change your name after the wedding?
Ready to start ordering ALL the things with your new monogram? The following step-by-step guide is intended to help you navigate getting your name changed here in Michigan. Our goal is for you to have this over and done with for good once you finish this list.
1PURCHASE CERTIFIED COPIES OF YOUR MARRIAGE LICENSE IN ADVANCE
These documents are the most important part; so important that you can’t move on to step two without them. Do this when you go to apply for your license.
2UPDATE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD
You can either apply for a new social security card by mail or in person at your local Social Security office. If you plan on going to the Social Security office in person, you can save yourself some time by filling out an application
online for a social security card in advance. While on their website, be sure to find out what documents you will need to bring with you.
3GET YOUR NEW DRIVER’S LICENSE
Updating your driver’s license with a new name must be done in person. In Michigan, you will need to have your name updated on your license and take a new photograph, as well as pay the renewal fee. Michigan’s Secretary of State offices accept appointments; you can make yours online. While you are on the site making your appointment, be sure to see which documents you will need to bring with you.
4GET A NEW PASSPORT + TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
Changing your name on your passport is considered a correction. If your passport was issued less than a year ago, you’ll be able to have the correction made without paying a fee. However, if you’ve had your current passport for a year or more, there will be a fee. While all passport changes must be applied for by mail, the U.S. Department of State has a convenient tool on their website that will help you fill out the change form. While you are on the site, be sure to see which documents you will need to send to the National Passport Processing Center.
5CHANGE THE NAME ON YOUR BANK ACCOUNTS
As soon as your identification has been updated with your new name, head to your local bank branch to update the information on your bank accounts. Note that most banks require that these changes be made in person. We recommend you call ahead to see which documents you will need to bring with you.
6CHANGE THE NAME ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS
The process for changing your name on your credit cards will vary by institution. Call your credit card company directly to see what their procedures are. You can usually find the customer service number on the back of your credit card.
7PROVIDE YOUR NEW NAME AND BANKING INFORMATION TO YOUR EMPLOYER
Now that your ID and bank accounts match, contact your company’s Human Resources office or payroll processor to provide your new information as soon as possible. This way your checks will be issued with the correct name, and direct deposits will be processed correctly and — most important — swiftly!
8UPDATE YOUR INSURANCE INFORMATION
Whether you’re combining insurance policies or are simply updating the information on your own policy, this is a major change you need to make as soon as possible to ensure you’re covered in the event of a claim. You will need a copy of your marriage license to move this along.
If you’re insured through your employer, go through human resources or the insurance representative to find the appropriate forms and contact information.
Planning to combine your coverage? Make these changes all at once. Marriage is considered a major life event, so you also have the opportunity to change your health care coverage — even if it isn’t an enrollment period. For auto and home insurance, adding an additional vehicle or a new home to your policy could result in some great savings if you combine multiple policies with the same company.
9UPDATE YOUR MORTGAGE, RENT, AND UTILITY COMPANIES
With your new name and new payment information in hand, it’s time to update the payment information for your mortgage or rent, and your utility companies. Most can be easily updated online in your account portal or on the phone, and should be as simple as typing in your new last name and entering your new credit card number or bank routing information.
10REVIEW YOUR CREDIT + DEBIT CARD STATEMENTS FOR AUTO-PAY ACCOUNTS
From Netflix and HBO to the hosting for your blog, we’ve all got smaller automatic payments that happen monthly that we can sometimes forget about. Look through a couple months of statements on all of your cards and accounts, keeping an eye out for payments that you’re making automatically. Log in to those accounts to make the change, then input your new credit card or banking information and update your billing information with your new name.
Scan here to see an in-depth version of this resource on our website with links to all of the necessary documents and resources for each step.
It’s happening! time to get your marriage license!
If you’re at this step, then you’re getting married REALLY soon — within 33 days to be exact, since that’s how long you’ll have once you apply for your marriage license! Here’s a step-by-step guide for getting your marriage license in the state of Michigan:
1SET DATE
Make sure you know your date before applying!
2 APPLY
You can apply online or in person. Contact information for every county clerk’s office in Michigan can be found by scanning the QR code below.
3 SECURITY NUMBERS
SOCIAL
You will need to provide social security numbers for both applicants. Applicants without a social security number must provide a legal explanation in person at the county clerk’s office.
4 PROOF OF AGE
Government-issued birth certificates and current driver’s licenses or state IDs (copies sufficient) are required for both applicants. Documents must be in English.
5 RESIDENCE
At least one applicant must be a resident of the county in which you are to be married. If both parties are from out of state, but getting married in Michigan, they must apply for their license in the county where their ceremony will take place. Proof of address is required with either a valid driver’s license or state ID.
6 FEE
The fee is $20 for Michigan residents and $30 for out-of-state applicants.
7 PICK UP
License must be picked up in person — with all required documents — at the county clerk’s office no sooner than 3 days after submitting your application.
