media. Plus many reviews on sites are written from people who have never even visited that destination! There is no verification process in who submits reviews, and some have taken to unscrupulous means to get properties higher ratings. Seek the help of a travel professional who will cut through the online clutter and provide real recommendations, so you will not be another victim of overly photoshopped photos and paid reviews. Don’t copy your best friend’s honeymoon. You won’t wear the same dress as your BFF on your big day or give your kids the same name. So why copy their honeymoon? Yes, the pictures were fantastic and the stories memorable, but you deserve a vacation as unique as you are. What may have been the best time ever for her could be your worst nightmare! Travel professionals can find the honeymoon to fit your personality as a couple and customize every detail so that all your friends are tempted to copy you. Don’t step down on your honeymoon. The perfect dress, the flowers that are specially flown in and a fantastic reception with a chef curated menu are what make your big day uniquely yours. Your honeymoon should match. When you work with a travel professional to prioritize your unique expectations, you will know how many of those honeymoon dreams can come true. Hopefully these tips will help destress your honeymoon planning, but the easiest way to unload those travel planning woes is to leave the planning to the experts. Sunshine at the End of the Tunnel
WHEN BREAST CANCER CRASHES THE PARTY WRITTEN BY STACY TOBIN
Gina Pausina Cherry’s story “How to Plan a Wedding in Thirty
Days” was published in last year’s bridal issue after a breast cancer
diagnosis meant moving her wedding date up and having four weeks to pull everything together. We recently reached out to Gina to see how she’s been and decided to publish an update. Gina and Ben were set to be married on November 18, 2017 when their whole world changed. She was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer. After carefully interviewing several surgeons and oncologists to ensure optimum treatment, she selected the doctors who she felt would take the very best care of her. The surgeon, however, insisted that Gina not wait until after her scheduled wedding date to begin treatment. So she and soon-to-be-husband Ben moved their wedding forward to August 5, 2017. With two rounds of intravenous chemotherapy administered before the wedding and an adjusted treatment plan, Gina was fortunately able to look and feel like herself for the wedding. Unfortunately the honeymoon had to be postponed so Gina could continue her treatment. After the initial treatment Gina had a double mastectomy and then began oral chemotherapy. “I thank my wonderful husband Ben and all our family and friends for sitting with me at numerous infusion visits and doctor’s appointments,” she says, “and I thank the You Night ladies who found me when I was so lost in all the physical changes that were taking place from the chemotherapy.” It has been a long year for Gina, but she has been pushing through it like a true warrior. The director of marketing and sales for A-1 Mobile Shredding and a fitness instructor at Franco’s Athletic Club, Gina has not stopped working or teaching her group classes. Through her treatments, she has also attended all three of her sons’ sporting events no matter how bad she felt. “I stayed positive throughout and kept living my life. Never give up—never give in,” she exclaims. Gina’s diagnosis inspired her to create a team for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, called the “You Night Fierce Warriors.” She has also decided to say “Bye, bye bra!” as a stylist for Ruby Ribbon, a women’s shapewear and apparel company supported by a nationwide network of independent stylists, many of whom have been affected in some way by breast cancer. Gina and Ben’s honeymoon plans have yet to be rescheduled but that is just around the bend. A second surgery is scheduled for November of this year after the You Night Runway Show and Celebration in October. “That’s my big sunshine at the end of this

LAGNIAPPE BOUTIQUE AND BRIDAL OUTLET A Fashion Utopia with Dreamy Prices When you think wedding dress warehouse, Lagniappe Boutique & Bridal Outlet should be the image that comes to mind. From the outside on Highway
190 it looks like a cute little boutique, but as soon as you step through the doors you realize that there is nothing little about this place. As you wander through the wonderland of wedding dresses, you realize that you are only in the first room. This fashion utopia includes another room dedicated to cocktail dresses and ball gowns, and it opens up to a fully loaded upscale boutique featuring designer brands like Louis Vuiton, Chanel, Kate Spade and Tory Burch as well as purses, shoes and accessories for every occasion. The best part—it’s half-price! How? Consignment. And that does not mean what you think. There is a huge misconception that follows that dreaded c-word. “People think consignment means old and used, but that’s not what it means at all,” explains owner Anne Brewer. “Consignment means to sell for someone else.” In fact, 75% of the inventory at Lagniappe is brand new with tags. Brewer explains that the majority of her inventory comes from upscale local boutiques. Many of the bridal gowns in her store were samples that brides tried on before ordering their size. She adds that the few wedding dresses which have been worn once are either extremely high-end or over-the-top gowns that she just could not pass up. As far as more casual attire, one big perk of consignment is that Lagniappe is not seasonal. When boutiques get down to one or two of a particular piece, or when they clear out their inventory for the next season, they consign. Therefore, Lagniappe has attire for every season throughout the year. Originally Lagniappe Women’s Consignment was on Collins Boulevard in Covington. Having been open for more than eight years, Brewer recently moved to a much larger location just before the 190 overpass in Covington and updated the name to the more fitting Lagniappe Boutique and Bridal Outlet. The shop boasts an in-house tailor who has worked with high-end wedding dresses and ball gowns in the New Orleans area for many years. They even offer customized dresses as well as complimentary private consultations. k Sophisticated Woman Wedding Magazine | 2018-19

At only 21 years old, Sydney is a master esthetician certified to perform an array of services from micro-dermabrasion and multi-vitamin peels to waxing and brow tinting to elegant airbrush makeup for any event. Whether it’s a facial, a peel or a makeup application, Sydney has the specialized skills
necessary to create a unique experience for each client. From oily or sensitive skin to uneven tones, Sydney caters to each individual client to help achieve their ideal look. She says she has always loved helping people look and feel their best. Since she was young, Sydney has enjoyed doing her own and her friends’ makeup. It has always been her creative outlet. “I grew up in an artistic environment,” she explains, “and I was never great at painting or drawing, but I was a dancer. Through dance I discovered a passion for makeup.” After graduating high school she chose to pursue an education from the Aveda Institute. While she knew that she wanted to do makeup, she also knew that “the canvas is key to any masterpiece,” so she decided to become a licensed master esthetician in preparation for a career in makeup artistry. She explains that esthetics and makeup go hand-in-hand. “You can’t have one without the other,” she says. “To be a good makeup artist you must understand the importance of skincare. It’s not just about how to put on makeup.” Sydney has taken specialty courses such as Advanced Beauty and Fashion from the Makeup Forever Academy in New York City. She graduated from the Aveda Institute in 2016 and has since been practicing as a makeup artist and master esthetician on the Northshore. k 12

For the Reception: Now for the fun part. What kind of party personifies your partner and you? In other parts of the country the reception music decision may be as simple as DJ or band. UNCOMMON CAMELLIA: Do You Need A Wedding Coordinator? So many brides wonder whether or not they need a coordinator, and it’s a great
question to consider. For many, it’s a smart investment that maximizes the return from all the other vendors on the big day. Consider the many things that a photographer, caterer, venue and officiant need in order to do their best job. An experienced and professional coordinator reviews all vendor contracts and makes sure that all the wedding professionals have everything they need. She develops a realistic timeline and facilitates the specific vision of the bride. As weddings become more personalized, brides are hiring more vendors and incorporating extra details to make their big day a true representation of their coming marriage. All those added elements increase the work load for the host in the weeks preceding the wedding. More couples are opting to outsource the management of the day, allowing themselves and those closest to them more time to cherish each precious wedding day moment. It’s a delicate task to be the stranger a bride entrusts with her wedding vision. However, the reward for the risk in developing that relationship is so sweet—a seamless wedding as unique as the couple themselves, happy mothers and daughters relieved of wedding day stresses and coordinators doing what they genuinely love. One of our bride’s Madeline F. says, “Booking Uncommon Camellia was the absolute BEST decision we made when planning our wedding.” All the coordinators at Uncommon Camellia are internally certified, meaning they receive initial and ongoing training as well as significant experience in making wedding visions a reality. Every coordinator is backed by a team of professionals to ensure that each wedding is given the attention and expertise required to run without a glitch. To learn more, book your wedding or join our team of coordinators, visit uncommoncamellia.com or follow us on facebook or instagram @theuncommoncamellia. k

Wrapped Around Your Finger
Round: The most popular and timeless choice, round diamonds account for 75 percent of all diamonds sold. Round diamonds are brilliant cut and have 58 facets, maximizing their sparkle factor. A round diamond is a sure bet. Celebrity proponent: Mila Kunis Princess: The second most popular shape, after the round diamond. The traditionally square or slightly rectangular, four-sided, pyramid shape is cut with many intricate facets creating lots of sparkle. A princess cut must be set with prongs protecting the corners and is beautiful as a solitaire. Celebrity proponent: Hilary Duff Emerald: The name stems from the most traditional cut for emerald gemstones. Rectangular with long step-cut facets framing the open table (the face of the diamond), an emerald cut emphasizes the clarity of a diamond. Celebrity proponent: Reese Witherspoon Asscher: The same step-cut facets of an emerald cut, except square. Again, diamond clarity is a must for this shape. The dramatic cut evokes a vintage appeal. Celebrity proponent: Kate Hudson Cushion: The cushion cut is the perfect in-between of the princess and the round. Square or rectangular with rounded pillow-like corners, its large facets create a brilliant sparkle. Celebrity proponent: Giuliana Rancic

Oval: An oval diamond has a beautiful brilliance created from intricate facets. Oval diamonds can accentuate long fingers or create the illusion of slender fingers for smaller hands. Celebrity proponent: Blake Lively Marquise: Like the oval, a marquise diamond’s elongated shape can make fingers appear long and slender. Their brilliant cut can maximize carat weight and the interesting shape is perfect for those with a flair for the dramatic. Celebrity Proponent: Catherine Zeta Jones Pear: An ideal combination of a round and marquise diamond, the pear shaped diamond is pointed at one end. We love this unique shaped diamond in a solitaire setting. Celebrity proponent: Victoria Beckham Radiant: This square or rectangular diamond is defined by its brilliant-cut facet patternin both the crown (bottom) and pavilion (top) of the stone. Celebrity proponent: Khloe Kardashian Heart: A unique and obvious symbol of romantic love, the heart-shaped diamond has yet to make a comeback as a popular engagement ring style. Bachelorette Bashes With Southern Style WRITTEN BY STACY TOBIN
Yes, we live in the party capital of the south, but that
doesn’t mean you need to have a Bourbon Street blowout. If stumbling through the French Quarter barefoot at 3 a.m. doesn’t sound like your idea of a premarital party, check out these fun alternatives to cut loose with the ladies before the big day. Take it to the beach. With Grand Isle, Bay St. Louis, Biloxi
and Gulf Shores all within a three-hour drive, a beach getaway is a great way to unwind before wedding week. Get up and dance. Spend an evening shaking your tail feather and learning some new moves with one of the area’s many talented instructors. Think pole dancing, salsa or the Cajun two-step. Jazz it up. Trade the party bus for a party boat! Ride in style down the mighty Mississippi on the Steamboat Natchez or Creole Queen while listening to live music on a brunch or dinner jazz cruise. Step back in time. Spend the weekend in the antebellum south. Kick back in a rocking chair with some sweet tea at one of the many historic plantations southeast Louisiana has to offer. Bust out the wide-brim hats. A day at the fairgrounds sipping mint juleps and watching horse races is a classy departure from the traditional “woo-girl” weekend. Check the calendar for exotic race days with ostriches or weenie dogs. Splish splash in the city. Day or night, have a pool party with your gal pals at one of the city’s many outdoor, poolside bars like the Country Club or the Drifter Hotel. Wine down. Have the ladies gather for a tasting or pairing. Take one of the many wine classes the area has to offer, or bring in your very own sommelier for a party as unique as you are. Add some art. If wine sounds fine but you want a little more activity, add some paint to the party. Again, venues around town will happily host your event or have it at home to make it your own. Pick a theme for the evening. If you want to hit the town but you’d rather skip the matching tanks tops, consider a theme! Think 1920s flappers, Disney princesses, murder mystery, holidays or movies. Whatever you choose to do with the girls, remember that this is your time to unwind before the big day, so relax and just have fun with it! 42
