Redefining the Dental Experience Allure Dental and Dr. Daniela Eversgerd
STEP INTO A REALM where dentistry marries artistry. Dr. Eversgerd doesn’t just transform smiles; she redefines the entire dental experience. She strives to be at the forefront of dental technology and the highest standards of dental care with cosmetic transformations such as veneers. Why Veneers? Dental veneers can instantly resolve imperfections. Veneers can cover a wide variety of cosmetic issues, preventing you from smiling with confidence. As life paints stories on our canvas, our teeth often become the unintended recipient of stains, chips, or misalignments. Veneers are more than just dental enhancements. Patients who are self-conscious of their smile or avoid showing teeth in photos are good candidates for a new smile. From one tooth to a full set top and bottom, it is an investment worth its weight in gold. But what if a patient is unsure of how the final result will look? The Trial Smile - Have you heard of it? As the name implies, the Trial Smile is a way for you to try out your new smile before committing. The Trial Smile gives you the ability to take your future teeth for a test drive. Dr. Eversgerd offers complimentary virtual consultations. Simply send over a selfie or snapshot of your smile and she will guide you towards its full potential. Every corner of Allure Dental is designed with your five senses in mind, ensuring reduced anxiety and heightened tranquility with spa-like
ambience. Upon entering, patients are welcomed with the signature scent of White Tea and Thyme, described by many as a warm hug when they walk through the door. Plush blankets and calming decor while watching Netflix or listening to music relax the mind and body during procedures. Post-procedure, her patients go home with a nourishing soup or smoothie packet as a little way to soothe after a long appointment. The overall experience is reminiscent of a day spent at a luxury spa. A Northshore’s Best Winner 7 years in a row, Dr. Eversgerd has been practicing for 21 years with a focus on cosmetic dentistry and full mouth rejuvenation. She teaches dentists from all over the country about veneers and smile transformations and is one of the lead instructors for the course Aesthetic Excellence in Ritchfield, Ohio. Bright, Bold and Earthy Bright, bold, colors alongside earthy
hues will be the trend this holiday season. Colors of the season include tranquil blue, sundial, luscious red, lavender and verdigris. LUSCIOUS RED: By Sherman-Williams is a powerful shade which stands as a symbol of passion.

legal WRITTEN BY BRITTANY V. CARTER
AS WE APPROACH the end of another year, it is important to make sure you put certain necessary documents in place to protect yourself and your loved ones. Regarding your estate planning needs, no matter your age, you should have a written Last Will and Testament, preferably drafted by a professional attorney, to ensure that your assets pass on to those you have chosen. A Last Will and Testament can be as specific as you would like and conform to your exact wishes, which may not otherwise be accomplished without creating your estate documents. Also, choose your Executor or Executrix, who should be someone you trust, and who will work together with an attorney to ensure your last wishes are legally implemented. This process is known as a succession, and depending on your legal documents and situation, may be accomplished without the need for the traditional probate process. You may want to include a Testamentary Trust along with your Will, which can help preserve and protect certain assets for chosen beneficiaries, as well as establish specific boundaries and guidelines for the distribution of assets. There is also the possible option of a Living Trust, which goes into effect while you are still alive, and can be revocable. Both Living and Testamentary Trusts have Special Needs options, as well. Additionally, a Power of Attorney is a document to consider in case you ever become incompetent or incapable of making financial and/or medical decisions on your own. There is a General Power of Attorney that encompasses all decision-making aspects, and there is a Healthcare Power of Attorney that specifically addresses HIPPA laws and
Legal Checklist Options for Your Peace of Mind allows for your loved ones to make informed decisions regarding your healthcare in the event that you are unable to make these decisions on your own. A Living Will can also communicate your wishes in case you become noncommunicative or incapable of making your healthcare decisions for yourself. Finally, regarding your family law needs, if you are getting a divorce, please know it can be an efficient and effective process if there is cooperation and everyone’s best interests are made a priority, especially those of the children. Even when custody, support, and community property are involved, it is possible to complete the entire process outside of court in what is referred to as a default divorce with Consent Judgments and community property settlements. The parties, with their respective attorneys, should work together to enter into negotiations and draft their own terms with what works best
for their unique situation. They can then submit their written Judgments with their signed consent for the Judge’s signature, and the Judgments have the same effect as if the parties had attended court. As always, it is important to consult with an attorney who primarily handles these areas of law to discuss details of your unique situation, decide what is best for you, and help ensure your legal needs are being met, so that you can have peace of mind and know you are protected. Rollin’ on the Bayou
Rising Star Ayvah Johnson SOME PEOPLE ARE BORN to be on stage. Ayvah Johnson is, without question, one of those people. From as young as the age of two, Ayvah loved to sing and dance. By the time she was four years old, she followed the yellow brick road to The Wiz at Slidell Little Theatre. It was here that she took on her first theatrical role as a yellow munchkin. She would go on to perform in quite a few more productions at SLT, including The Happy Elf and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and in the role of Molly in 30 by Ninety Theatre’s production of Annie. It was her SLT performance in Once on This Island that led to her big break. A family friend with connections to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival who was aware of Ayvah’s role as young Ti Moune suggested that she audition for the same role in the festival’s production. She submitted an audition tape and landed an eight-month contract for the role. She and her mother headed to the northwest coast in February of 2022, and a month later, she stepped onto that big stage for opening night, laying the foundation for bigger things to come. Shortly after booking the Oregon gig, she had signed a contract to perform as Young Anna Mae Bullock (who would grow up to be known to the world as Tina Turner) in the Broadway National Tour of Tina: the Tina Turner Musical, set to hit the road later that year. But while still in Oregon, Ayvah received an offer she couldn’t refuse: a three-week “vacation swing” role in the current Broadway production of Tina. With the Oregon production’s
18 Sophisticated Woman | November - December 2023
blessing, she departed for New York, spending a week learning the roles of Young Anna Mae Bullock and Young Alline, Tina’s sister, with an additional two weeks marked for performing each of the roles. When the actor performing as Young Eileen fell ill, Ayvah stepped into that role, marking her Broadway debut. Three shows in, her opportunity was cut short when she contracted COVID-19. While disappointed, she remained ecstatic for having enjoyed the big stage debut. Ayvah and her mother returned home to Slidell, heading back to New York in August of 2022 to begin rehearsals. A month later, the 33-city tour opened in Providence, Rhode Island. It was a grueling schedule, with the cast performing five to six shows a week, traveling by tour bus to cities within a fourhour radius, and by plane for more distant venues. Along with rehearsals and performances, the young cast members were tutored during down time, typically three to four hours a day. For three months during the tour, Ayvah’s father, Avian Johnson, Sr., joined her while her mother returned home, providing each of the parents an opportunity to spend much-needed time with their other child. Then came a call from The Jennifer Hudson Show in Burbank, California. The talk show’s producers spotted videos of Ayvah singing on her Instagram page--which has more than 117,000 followers—and invited the young starlet to perform on the show. Hudson had achieved “EGOT” status after being honored with the entertainment industry’s highest honors—Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, following her supporting actress role in
community
the 2006 musical Dreamgirls. For the performance, Hudson selected the song that Ayvah performed on the show: “One Night Only,” which Jennifer had performed in her award-winning role as Effie in “Dreamgirls.” The talk show host proclaimed Ayvah a “shining star.” The Tina tour is set to resume soon, and Ayvah has been extended an offer to renew her contract. Additionally, numerous offers have been presented for her consideration, including a major Broadway production, a television network regarding a potential series, and recording opportunities with a few musical superstars. Kaula says the family is contemplating all of the offers, but any decisions are currently on hold until such time as the ongoing SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike continues. Regarding her daughter’s achievements, Kaula expresses great pride. “At just 10 years old, she already has an incredible work ethic plus the ability to push through the challenges. I tell her when I grow up, I want to be just like her.” Her father sums up the experience in just four words: “My baby can sing!” Her brother is equally proud of her, and the two enjoy opportunities to spend time together. Like his sister, he has performed in a few local community theatre productions. But unlike his sister, his first loves remain football and baseball. So what’s Ayvah’s dream role? Matilda. On Broadway. With a bit of hesitation, she adds, “I hope they don’t require that I perform with that [British] accent.” No matter where her journey takes her next, one thing remains certain: this young star has a bright future ahead. Let the next chapter begin.

Dr. Burkenstock's dedication to improving lives extends to her two sons, Austin and Blaze, who are following in her footsteps. It is this refined and relaxed approachability which defines Bluebird Development and Design's finished product, always detailed, timeless, and elegant. Their own residence was the first one ever built and designed by Bluebird. Andrea chose a Federal styled home design, based on the Derby Summer House designed in 1793 by architect Samuel McIntire. It boasts 4,833 square feet in living area, with 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Andrea incorporated unprecedented detail that she loves in every room: there are ram’s head appliques installed in the oversized federal style millwork, dueling 18th century lights over the kitchen island, the dining room chandelier, circa 1920, is from Paris, the fire place mantel is concrete cast from a 1750 Louis XV style and the kitchen hardware was custom made with a rice pattern cast in solid brass and finished in polished nickel. She calls her favorite room the “Blue Room”, a cozy sitting room outside the Master Bedroom that is paneled with raised molding and draped in high gloss light blue color, where she likes to enjoy her morning coffee and catch up on the day’s current events. In this room and every room in the house, she has written scripture. Jamison added that the floors are solid white oak milled in Europe and cut in a chevron pattern with varying stain colors. Antique shutters were converted to pantry doors and in the master bathroom, accented by black and white floors, the master shower has exposed brass plumbing fixtures, which were inspired by their visit to a 1917 renovated hotel in 28 Sophisticated Woman | November - December 2023

It’s highly competitive, teams with a coach and an assistant professor. Each and you have to be invited to participate. If you excel, person handles an aspect of the legal analysis. mentionable rounds. “They’d never seen anything like it before or since that I am aware of. It was lots of fun, but also exciting to match our team’s skills against other teams from around the country and the world. It’s when I realized that developing complicated legal strategies, and being able to execute on those strategies to win for my clients is what truly excited me. I knew that the ability to deliver that kind of exceptional result was the talent that would be my life’s work.” While Josh’s future vision became clear during his time in law school, it wasn’t one that was dictated by his early life. “We were a middle-class family from Chalmette. My dad was a cabinet maker by trade and became a construction superintendent. He loved construction and working with his crews in the field. My mom was an accountant and has also had a remarkable career. No one else in the family had been a lawyer. No one had ever even earned a graduate degree. I wasn’t directed to choose this, it was just in my nature to choose law, and now it’s my passion and I love it.” With the ability to choose anywhere to build his life and practice, Josh has found other passions that keep him firmly rooted in Louisiana. “I love spending time with my wife and three kids on family vacations and camping. I love duck hunting and exploring Louisiana marshes, rivers, and bayous. I always have. And one of my very favorite things is Mardi Gras and riding in the Krewe of Olympia.” After moving to the Northshore to attend Southeastern, Josh says he found beauty not only in the marshes and Tchefuncte River, but also in the values and faith he shares with family, friends and his community of hardworking people. “I’m invested here – economically, socially and professionally. I’m proud to visit great local establishments run by business owners like me whose life and work intertwine here. It’s great to balance out the great food we have at places like Tchefuncte’s and Pyre BBQ with some exercise and fun with my buddies at Franco’s. The Northshore is a great place to raise a family.” Josh says he committed to starting his practice on the Northshore in 2015 after only a little less than a year out of law school. “Right after I established the business, I started reading a book about how to start and grow a law firm. I’m coming up on 10 years in business on my own, and the bookmark is still on page 30. Pretty quickly, I got to the point where it was just a waste of time to read any more of it – I’m living it and the rest is history.” In that time, Josh says he’s helped people from all different walks of life in many different situations. “My job is November - December 2023 | Sophisticated Woman 33
mentionable to stand up and fight for people that need someone in their corner. That’s our justice system. People have a right to an advocate. I had a client referred to me who came from an underserved background. She had tried to meet with other attorneys but didn’t have the means to engage them. I felt a strong sense of compassion to fight for her, and I got her everything she was entitled to. In my eyes, she deserved the same exact treatment that I would give to a multimillion-dollar client – and she got it.” Josh credits his office team with the firm’s ability to continue delivering the winning results his early ability promised. “I’m proud of my staff including my friend and hardworking lawyer Jasmine Torres. We went to

college together, and I’ve known her since we were teenagers. She’s a fighter, she’s loyal, and has a big heart for people. Another longtime association is with Denise Cain who hired me as her lawyer years ago and who I later hired as my office manager. I believe those long-lasting working relationships reflect the character of the firm and allow me to do what I do best - developing complicated legal strategies to deliver exceptional results for my clients.” Joshua D. Allison, A Professional Law Corporation has offices at 207 E. Gibson Street in Covington, 506 Water Street in Madisonville and 1203 Main Street in Franklinton. Chef Soirée
40 years with a Purpose
Who knew 40 years ago that a simple idea to gather local restaurants, beverages and entertainment vendors would become an annual event that is anticipated by thousands? Chef Soirée, the idea of Shirley Delauzain and many wonderful volunteers became a social highlight. The first year began as a poboy- eating contest. The following year, the lights, the party, the glamour hit Bogue Falaya Park, with patrons enjoying tasty gourmet delights and beverages from 35 local restaurants. Chef Soirée was the talk of the town and still is! Today celebrating 40 years, Chef Soirée is the premiere event on the Northshore, featuring the area’s best food and libations from more than 100 restaurants and vendors. The excitement begins when the patrons
stroll through the front gates into a wonderland of enchanting lights. After a magical evening, they depart to a sky aglow with fireworks! Chef Soirée is not just a party, it’s a party with a purpose! All proceeds benefit the Youth Service Bureau, which opened its doors to serve our community in 1981. YSB is dedicated to building strong families and youth through their programs: CASA, Crossroads, FINS, TASC, and Options. These programs give our at-risk youth a chance they otherwise may not have to take a different path for a more fulfilled future. The mission of the Youth Service Bureau is to provide advocacy, counseling, education and intervention for at-risk youth and their families, helping them reach their full potential.
