The boy in the cover represents us, students. If there’s anything you need to know about this year’s batch of students, it is that we are fierce, devious, and dauntless. The snake in the cover represents the ability to shed its old skin, and just like us, we too are capable of starting anew and becoming stronger versions of ourselves.

Rebirth: A Taste of the Dauntless Venom The Maroon Ink | Ang Tintang Marun S.Y. 2022-2023

- "We delight you with an ambrosial taste of fresh venom. After two years of witnessing the horrors and devastation caused by the coronavirus disease across the country, the publication has finally found its way back to campus grounds. It was an uphill battle, not to mention the fact that it had to enter the abruptly hostile arena of face-toface coverage and real-time posting— a practice done prior to the pandemic which we’ve never actually done before as junior Inkers— while still maintaining its online presence on social media. Transitioning from having to do just every bit of everything online to finally doing inperson tasks was a sharp shift, to say the least. As a result, there were a few missteps and slips on our path to growth and progress. However, just as you may think that these factors collectively shook us and brought us to our downfall, it had led us to rise each day fiercer and dauntless just as every Cobra should be. The awakening of the challenges this academic year paved the way for us to grow from what we once were. The publication knew from then on that it was time to bring a new taste into the mix. That it was indeed time to set a new era for The Maroon Ink and Ang Tintang Marun. An era that will further the potential of each and every Inker and bring out the best in them. An era that will shine a light beyond their duties as watchdogs and servants to the Senior High School student body. And so we give you its rebirth. We delight you with an ambrosial taste of fresh venom. Venom that will keep you coming back for more. Rebirth: A Taste of the Dauntless Venom.

Abot - tanaw ang pagsikat ng bagong panahon. Rebirth.

Pangalawa rito ang School of Education.

On the Spot Poster Making Contest.

Southwestern University PHINMA paints the night maroon in the grandest school opening event of the year. The return of Mundo Granate, the grandest school opening celebration in Southern Philippines, was held at the Southwestern University PHINMA ballpark last September 17, 2022. The Cobra community got to kick the new school year off with a fun-filled night of music, great food, diversity, and good company.

In line with Southwestern University PHINMA’s goal to create a safe and inclusive space for its students, student-centered events like Mundo Granate, where a sense of belonging and purpose is fostered and endless opportunities are created, are regularly conducted and spearheaded by the Office of the Student Life. The event showcased a fun line-up of electrifying performances from SWU PHINMA’s formidable student organizations, the Maroon Dance Crew, Manila’s premier DJ - DJ Nix Damn P, the Lawod Band, and select international-student singers. A gourmet food strip can also be seen on-site with a wide variety of concessionaires, including Cafe Denezen, Karosa, and Santino’s Pizza among others. The Cobras were seen dancing and singing along as the night ended with a grand firework display together with a closing performance from the spinner, DJ Nix Damn P. Southwestern University PHINMA ended the intramurals with a beauty pageant done with a twist. Last October 21, 2022, the Vaiots competition was held at the University Coliseum as a part of the closing program of Siglakas 2022. 13 individuals fought to take the crown and students could not be stopped as they cheered for the candidates of each of their respective departments. Every year, during the Siglakas, each college department sends one of its male students to take part in the contest. Men impersonate princesses and celebrities and wear heels, make-up and elegant gowns to captivate the audience with bright beliefs and visions. This year’s theme is centered around, "The Coronation of Pop Culture Royalty” Prior to the coronation of Vaiots 2022, the winning colleges are presented with their respective minor awards. Contestants held stunning transformations and dressed themselves as popular pop singers such as Marilyn Monroe, Beyonce, Katty Perry, Ariana Grande, Rihanna, Taylor Swift and many more women who made it big in the music industry. A student from the School of Medicine's department, Jonathan Perez Abrenilla, won the competition in this year of Vaiots, giving the department its third victory. The College of Medical Technology took first place while the College of Medical Technology came in second. Both the College of Nursing and the College of Pre-Medicine placed third and fourth, respectively.

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Soleil from the School of Education (SOE) claimed the championship title of Siglakas 2022: Battle of the Bands at the University Coliseum on Friday. Soleil band composes of Marianne Navesis (vocalist), Keith Richard Reyes (rhythm guitarist), Al Jethro Codog (drummer), Pauline Emmanuels Codog (lead guitarist), Sharl Mae Ando (pianist), and Grace Villacampa (bassist). “It was wonderful. We didn't imagine getting to this point. Most particularly, the age gap between us and our competitors is truly different,” Navesis said. SOE secured its spot for the finals in the Battle of the Bands elimination round at PHINMA Grounds on October 13, along with the Colleges of Radiologic Technology and Nursing.

14

“Numerous bands gave solid performances. And among those bands, we are honored to be one of the top 3,” she added. Soleil’s lead singer Navesis earned the Best Vocalist award. SOE also received a cash prize for bagging the championship. “We didn't have a winning strategy for this contest. All we did was enjoy ourselves while we performed. And we make sure that our performance is genuinely unique and has something that the other bands don't have,” Navesis said. The College of Radiologic Technology follows in 2nd place, while the College of Nursing settles in 3rd place.

CEBU CITY, PHILIPPINES – After 2 years since the ban of in-person school events due to the pandemic, Southwestern University PHINMA once again hosted the university’s annual Siglakas for the school year 20222023 with the participation of all 13 departments in various sports and competitions last October 17 to 21 at the AZCO grounds. Ten gorgeous candidates stepped into the world of pageantry as they each represented their different houses in the Hara ng SWU 2023, which officially commenced last March 23, 2023, at the Southwestern University’s West Campus Coliseum.

The event not only served as a beauty contest alone; it is an amazing way of self-expression. The Haras were honored with minor awards for their excellence in fun wear, production numbers, playsuits, festival costumes, professional attire, and evening gowns.

Armed with beauty, grace, and intelligence, the ladies confidently flaunted their qualities and the things they stand for. Cebu’s Premier Host, Rej Alipar, attended as the master of ceremonies, and the hype simply could not be stopped as he began the program

One special individual took home the crown as the first-ever Hara ng SWU. The representative from Stem Health - Miss Jerica Lugnasin, simply dazzled the crowd and took over the judges' hearts. She was thus hailed the winner, followed by her sister queens, Genesis Bravo from Stem General and Leigh Ortiz who is also from the same strand, Shannon Codilla from HUMSS and Kirby Harani from Stem Health.

STEM Health A, from the Haus of Mayari, provided highquality entertainment for the opening salvo. And from the ten candidates at the beginning of the competition, only five eventually stayed to advance to the top five. It was a tough fight, but it can be said that all the candidates had their whole personalities shining through during the preliminary rounds.

The Haras of SWU-SHS serve as wonderful inspirations in the world of pageantry and the world of LGBTQ. Most of all, though, they serve as the perfect piece of the puzzle to end the week-long events of the Senior High School Days 2023 at Southwestern University PHINMA.

SWUdents from the Junior and Senior High School departments went head-to-head during the Basic Education Days 2023 last February 9 and 10, 2023, at the Southwestern University PHINMA West Campus. Junior high school department’s Ken Jestoff Quijano bagged first place and the Best Male Player award, and senior high school department’s Tsid Elizah Mahilum cleared the Best Female Player award during the chess tournament of BED Days 2023's opening segment at the University Coliseum. On the second day of the event, junior high school SWUdents competed in the Robotics Competition: Balloon Bot Challenge and Space Challenge, and STEM Exhibit at the West Campus Lobby. Grade 7 SWUdents copped first place in the Balloon Bot Challenge. The Grade 8 contenders then snatched the win on the next phase, Space Challenge. Junior Cobras wrapped up BED Days 2023 with the STEM Exhibit of their respective grade levels, notably the Minecraft Sustainable Community, Infographics Making Contest, Human Organ Systems Via Visual Basic Contest, Genetics Webpage Contest, and Futuristic House Exhibit, which highlighted their exemplary knack in the field of science and technology.

Learning and performance are greatly impacted by a student's mental health. Student performance might be hampered by mental ability, focus, and confidence issues related to mental health. Students who have poor mental health endure stress, anxiety, and depression the most. A male nursing student was reported to have jumped from the tenth storey of a university building in Mandaue City on October 17, 2022. As a result, student suicide has grown into a greater concern across the nation. Mental health should be valued equally to physical health because the two collaborate together to carry out daily tasks. In the particular instance of the nursing student, this was likely due to the fact that he allegedly failed his midterm exams, which had a significant impact on him because he was receiving scholarships. Students who are under enormous expectations and pressure will eventually crumble. Adolescent mental illness involves more than just being depressed. There is more that can be done to help and support those who struggle with mental health issues. Depression should be recognized more widely so that it can be treated to reduce the incidence of suicides. Students should receive the assistance they deserve once they have been educated and granted power.

As Southwestern University PHINMA’s college departments finally reopened their facilities to face-to-face classes, the Senior High School Department’s Grade 12 students followed suit last November 21, 2022, to have their in-person classes for the second semester. Grade 11 students were also welcomed on the campus last February for their last semester. For most students, the last group of classmates they physically bonded with were people from their previous schools. With the sudden shift in learning modalities and social environments, how exactly did these past 5 months go for students? This was new for all of them. The usual routine of going to classes physically again, but this time it’s in an entirely different school. The environment gave off the feeling of uncertainty as they probably only knew most of our schoolmates online which didn’t give a full idea of what to expect from them as classmates in a physical classroom setup. This made most of them have an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience clouded with overwhelming emotions as they were trying to process reality: you’ll be going to school with these people for the last few months of the school year. Down the 1-month mark, the face-to-face journey had brought a sense of familiarity and nostalgia the more people got to know each other personally. The walls of doubt and nervousness came down as friendships were built. It was an active month and people had to both be socially and academically alert to start the semester on a good note. Are the events completely identical to our past experiences? Not at all. Despite that, the familiar feeling helped how them adjust quickly to our new environment as if we’ve all been there before. The nostalgic feeling was mixed with nervousness for most students. However, it did not hinder them from going extreme with academic and extracurricular activities and mingling with other students. This shows how flexible our students are. Despite the sudden change of time, setup, and environment, they managed to go on with their daily school routine and even excel in anything we do. Not to mention, the challenge of going to school and going home was also one of the immense battles they faced. Most students are commuters which adds to their daily burdens. But we found ways to get on the bus, no matter how comfortably they sit, or how firmly they stand. Additionally, we are all aware of how tight people’s budgets are. For most students, their allowance is enough for commuting fees which makes us hold back from buying delicious foods or anything that we want. Practicality should always come first. Nevertheless, they were smart in saving money by walking to short-distance locations instead of riding on the bus and paying even just a small amount of money. This could also serve as daily exercise and is beneficial to our health. These struggles happen every day yet the students are flexible, practical, and smart enough to overcome all the obstacles that could block their way. This is one reason why we have the most outstanding and bright students. However, the hardest struggle they are yet to face is the exchange of appreciation and waving goodbyes: the farewells. Because of the recent pandemic, students were only allowed to have in-person classes for about six months only. The span of time was enough to make friends, but is it enough to cherish the memories together? Have they enjoyed the time they spent? Are they ready to let go of each other? This last realization teaches us to always treasure every memory we have with our special people because we do not know when this bond is going to last. Thus, it is important to live in the moment. Nothing will ever beat the joy and the feeling of physical classes, and this school year's later half was kind enough to make this batch experience it. With all 5 realizations and core learnings, it can be said that meeting schoolmates in person greatly impacted each and every student's life. For those in 11th grade, this is just the start of something beautiful. For the graduating seniors, all this felt too short of a journey yet it was a great way to end their senior high school experience. There were memories worth cherishing and things to remember, and like what Dr. Seuss said: Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Tayo’y may karapatang pumili at mag desisyon.

Southwestern University-PHINMA holds many clubs and organizations that fit all the different interests and specialties for every Cobra and with every group comes a leader to pioneer, one to guide and represent the entire clique. The voices of the unheard, advocates of student empowerment, all actively seeking the best in everyone.Meet Southwestern University PHINMA’s very own guild masters and leaders: The Lingua Franca teaches SWUdents who are struggling with understanding and speaking Sinugbuanong Binisaya and English. The club, under the guide of Hannah MJ Macrohon, became a safe place for SWUdents struggling with communicating with their fellow peers. Macrohon-a 17 year old, STEM Health student, was just a member in the club back when she was in Grade 11. As an introvert who didn’t really socialize, it became a surprise to her when most of the club voted for her to become their new guildmaster as the previous term ended. According to her, it was a great experience to lead the team as it helped boost her self-confidence. “ I can say being a guild master isn’t the worst responsibility to receive but a lesson to achieve. To the future leaders of Lingua Franca, you don’t need to be perfect to be a leader, believe in yourself and guide your members to a better path. To the members of Lingua Franca, thank you for being part of the club and let’s brace ourselves to have a great journey. ” - Hannah Macrohon, Lingua Franca Guildmaster Cobra SAGA (Sexuality And Gender Association) is the face of the LGBTQIA+ community inside Southwestern University PHINMA. A club built by senior high school students to make members of the LGBTQIA+ feel safe inside the school. Nathalie Albuera Cabahug- a 17 year old student under STEM Health, makes sure that the Cobra SAGA,as their voice and ally in a society where not everyone is treated fairly, treat LGBTQIA+ students with respect, value their identity, and assist them with their concerns. Being guildmaster was a big opportunity for Cabahug as “having a rainbow heart like mine allows me to meet new people, which makes running an LGBTQIA+ organization pleasant and also fun,” in her words.

The Sciporium (TSC) is the official Science Club of SWU PHINMA. The clique serves as a platform for SWUdents interested in science to network, collaborate, and learn together while making a positive impact on the institution through their knowledge and skills. With an interest and passion for science, Ianah Eguia- 18, under STEM Health, wanted to have an avenue where she could share her knowledge and skills with like-minded individuals. To her surprise, she was nominated for the guild master post and won the position despite being only in Grade 11. The club wasn’t that active during her first year but despite this setback, she was determined to make a difference to make the next year more productive and meaningful. She took the chance and became guildmaster in her final year and with the help of other club officers, was able to organize various events and activities that were both fun and educational, in turn promoting their club and gaining more members. “Being part of this club has given me the opportunity to explore the world of science and to meet amazing people who share the same passion for knowledge and discovery. To the future members and officers of TSC, I want to encourage you to continue exploring the world of science and to use the club as a gateway to discover the undiscovered, answer the unanswered, and make all the impossible possible. Explorarent Scientiam! “ - Ianah Eguia, Sciporium Guildmaster

“All I ask is that the future Cobra Saga members continue to serve as examples of inclusivity and generosity to their fellow students.” - Nathalie Cabahug, Cobra SAGA Guildmaster

Lacuna Likha is SWU PHINMA’s official arts and literature club. Where poets and artists unite to showcase their talents in the fields of art and literature, a house where they can comfortably do what they want while making progress. Avrile Jean Lamparas started her position in the club as the Grade 11 Receptionist. What started with making poster layouts for activities ended with her leading the club in her next year. Despite having self-doubt with how she could manage handling the club, the trust and support of fellow club members and SWudents interested in joining made her believe that she was ready to lead. Despite all of the hassle, Lamparas with the help of her co-officers, handled the club accordingly and continued working in expanding its horizon for arts and literature. “If there’s anything I want them to continue, perhaps it would be the solidarity of the club. Solidarity comes in openness, and it’s a club where we can make an interaction but the thing is that we have different viewpoints and opinions but as an open-minded individual, everything will be easy to discuss, to act, and share comfortably as a way of solidifying the club.” - Avrile Lamparas, Lacuna Likha Guild Master The Performing Arts Club is a gathering of our very own talented Cobras. SWUdents who enjoy singing, dancing, acting, playing instruments, and many more all showcasing their talents and bringing out the best and confident version of themselves. As one of the officers last year, Sharl Mae Ando was next in line for the position of guildmaster, not before being promoted to Master in her first year. Her experience in previous positions helped her run the club as guildmaster with managing events despite the setbacks. “If there is anything I want the future guildmasters or members of the club to continue is that, Keep on shining! Get on that stage and Perform at your hearts' content. There may be difficulties or obstacles ahead but don't let them get to you, just keep on going. Instead, let those things polish you and shine even more.” - Sharl Ando, PAC Guildmaster The Athlitikos Omilos, also known as the official Sports club of SWU, was established for students in order for them to unleash their skills in sports and to become physically fit. This club gives students the chance to socially interact with their peers, promoting awareness of the value of exercise, self-confidence, and sportsmanship. Despite hesitation on accepting the offer to be Guildmaster, Mariel Sophia Aurea accepted the position and played her role. Through the lapses and difficulties, Aurea was able to guide her members in handling the major sports events that concluded earlier this academic year. “Being the Guild Master was like a roller coaster kind of ride because it was fun and stressful at the same time. Appreciation for my officers, who helped me nourish my leadership skills. I would not be the leader that I am today if it weren't because of them.I hope the bond never ends here.” -Mariel Aurea, Athlitikos Omilos Guildmaster The SineManiacs Society is an association of SWUdents who share the same mission to inaugurate a fantastic launch-pad of aspirations, exposing them to liberal arts and critical thinking. When the previous guildmaster left, Mariebeth Mira stepped up to handle the club’s paperwork. In this show of responsibility, her fellow members saw that she had the potential to lead and nominated her to become their next guildmaster. Despite her shyness, she was adamant to befriend and become close to her guild members. Being guildmaster taught her to sharpen her people skills and allowed her to collaborate better with her peers. Despite not having the opportunity to feature much this school year, she hopes that succeeding club officers will take the chance to make this club shine brighter in the future. “TSMS is not just a place for movie enthusiasts, it is also a club for people who enjoy making movies. I would want the future guildmasters and members of TSMS to continue the camaraderie that we had.” - Mariebeth Mira, SineManiacs Society Guildmaster

The official Math Guild for Southwestern University shares and gains infinite knowledge about math and holds math tutorials and culminations for all Cobras. In this guild, they all possess intellectual abilities in logic, arts, and good attitudes. Starting off as the guild’s webmaster, Rosewell Shem Lopez became the guild’s president after the previous one stepped down. Despite being an introvert, the ups and downs that came with it did not stop her from being the best leader she could possibly be. With the hardwork and determination of her and her fellow officers, they were able to handle things accordingly with proper planning and brought out their inner mathematicians. “Being the Guild’s President made me realize that I can lead despite being an introvert. It’s a great experience, the ups and downs. The best thing that will be etched in my heart are my Math Guild Executives; they did not just bring out the mathematician in me, but they also brought out the best in me.” - Rosewell Lopez, Math Guild President The Maroon Ink | Ang Tintang Marun is the official publication of the Southwestern University PHINMA Senior High School Department. Aside from it being a school publication and an affiliate organization of the SBO, TMI | ATM is a genuine platform for students to promote press freedom and expression. Joining the organization as a mere news writer, Raine Heart Campos worked her way through the ranks ‘til she was promoted to the position of editor-in-chief. As a laid-back person who rarely took the wheel, Campos was challenged when she was given the responsibility to lead an entire organization. Amidst the pressure came fulfillment in the end as she was satisfied with how she dealt with her term. Along with her fellow executives, their goal was always to bring a new era to this organization- become a publication that welcomes change. She encourages succeeding Inkers to continue what they started and continue to ink new advocacies.

The publication’s Filipino counterpart, Ang Tintang Marun, shared a similar story when it came to choosing this year’s lead. Margareth Dionne Ravanera was offered the role of the publication’s Punong Patnugot. Upon encountering the applications on her newsfeed, never did she expect that the simple idea of joining the organization would take her to where she is right now. The thought overwhelmed her but despite that, she learned how to handle the ropes of her position and did her best to fulfill her duties.

“The Executives and I have always wanted to brand ourselves as a new era of the organization, a publication that welcomes change and inking new advocacies, and I'd like those who will succeed us to continue what we had started as it is what sets apart from the previous batches. To the future TMI members and executives, I wish you all the best as you take the lead next academic year. Know that we, your seniors, will always be here for your guidance. Hehe love you guys.” - Raine Campos, The Maroon Ink Editor-in-chief “If there is something that I want the inkers to keep upholding, it would be to keep practicing the values of teamwork, transparency, and activeness. The news never sleeps, so they must be aware and integrate these values at all times. I hope that the next executives will prove to be great student leaders in the next year, as not only will they be bringing the name of the inkers and the publication, but also SWU SHS and the Cobras. With this, I wish the best of luck to our future inkers! Your seniors will always be right here to guide you.” - Margareth Ravanera, Ang Tintang Marun Punong Patnugot The voices of the unheard, advocates of student accreditation, all actively seeking the best in everyone. The blacksmiths that forged student empowerment, Southwestern University PHINMA’s very own leaders.

Right to left. Passing from one hand to the next, an emerging ritual — a graceful dance between the past and the future — occurred for the first time. With each transfer, a new chapter was written in the chronicle of long nights spent studying, friendships formed and tested, and tears and laughter resonated throughout the halls of learning. Just after a 5-second pause, we found ourselves at the crossroads of an ending and a new beginning. Right. A great deal of expectations burden the shoulders of most students. The countless sleepless nights, draining days, and stressful circumstances have driven us to become resilient and versatile. Through our journey, we have learned that the right path is seldom the easiest. With the courage and determination we exhibited, our choices have led us down this road which we can confidently say is the right path. Left. Our journey was not all hardships. It was sprinkled with fun and remarkable moments brought by friendships that blossomed along the way. Although successfully leaving highschool is considered an achievement and a milestone, it also means leaving behind the wonderful parts of it. Endings — although happy — are still endings, and they are littered with goodbyes and reminiscing what can never be anymore. And so, in a way, it is tinged with melancholy. You will be moving forward to greater things but when you look back, you will realize you will miss the moments that lit the path you have left behind. It is the sablay that goes beyond decorating graduates’ shoulders, that carries the weight of the struggles conquered, that interlaces the culmination of what it takes to be young learners, that wears the colors of what it means to fly. It is the sablay that ushers a transition in states of mind and of being. And that room of thousands witnessed the magic of the moment. Right to left: an exclamation of pride, gratitude, hope, and relief. Shoulder to shoulder: who would have thought it to be this simple, the carrying of infinities within finite days? Like a delicate thread interwoven through time, we now continuously tread towards the edge of a world abounding with timeless possibilities. Right to left. From thread to thread to sablay to sablay. We become weavers of our destinies.

I’d rather face reproaches for failing to complete my duties than put myself at risk by commuting late at night,” she frankly added. For Danielle Tacoloy, a 12th-grade student from the southwest coastal town of Moalboal in Cebu, the biggest challenge proved to be leaving home. “The irresistible aroma of my mother’s homecooked meals, my sister’s constant pestering, and cherished moments with my family were all left behind in pursuit of knowledge and academics,” Tacoloy said. “It is tiring, really,” she continued. “Traveling for 3-4 hours is timeconsuming, and the fare is quite expensive. To give you an idea, I have to spend a total of 336 pesos just to stay for two days in my hometown. To save money, I have decided to only return home once a month.” Roy Balladares also reflected on how attending a school far from home taught him the value of self-discipline and tenacity when striving for academic success, both as a resident outside Cebu and as a student leader inside. Despite the initial challenges in adjusting to a new environment, he kept his dedication and focus to

reaffirmed his conviction that hard work and a positive attitude are greater elements in accomplishing one’s goals than proximity to one’s school. “Instead of being weighed down by the long lines, crowded buses, and swarmed boats that mark my journeys home to Dapitan City, I choose to see these challenges as opportunities for personal growth and development,” Balladares reflected. As someone innately driven, he learned that having a constructive perspective has been crucial in triumphing over adversities. “As I navigate the transportation crisis, I am reminded that I can reach my academic goals and achieve great things with persistence and a positive attitude. With each transit stop, I bolster my determination because I know each stop presents an opportunity to prevail and succeed,” he explained. Everything is to say that every day is a test of tenacity, but the rewards that lie at the very end make each trip worthwhile. In a similar vein, Aguilar shared, “My experiences made me more selfreliant. I am no longer holding both of my parent’s hands. I am walking through this on my own and facing it all on my own. When I was a child and in trouble, the first names I would scream were those of my parents. Now, I need to learn how to scream for my own name. I need to learn how to help myself. We all need to learn how to help ourselves.”

Over and above each frame of mind, the students’ words resonate with an undersold truth. Do they not stand as testaments to the limitless potential that resides within each one of us? This fire within them has spurred them ahead and kindled a passion that will blaze on fiercely long after they bid farewell to the heart of the nest as cobras that went and slithered extra miles.

FEATURE

Gayon pa man, nagsisimula pa lamang ang preskong termino.

The Forthright Ink “Bed of Thoughts” (Negative Version)

In a city so wide and populous, There lives a short man so rich yet modest. His mansion is marvelous and grandiose. His posture is elegant and honest.

This garden represents my mind, Take a look around. I diligently water them, These thorns and poisonous flora.

You might think that he is reputable But it is tainted by a shocking flaw: Doors in his mansion are negligible So he leaves and comes in through his window!

My fingers bleed as I prick myself While tending to my flowers, It paints the petals red While the metallic scent lingers.

Each person asks a similar question, “Why does not his mansion have any door?” Has been a topic in every session; Making fun of it has become a chore.

I see beauty in the danger, The danger my garden holds. Have caution and be wary, My garden thrives in the dark and cold .

The city waits for him every morning To mock him when he leaves through his window. And also waits for him every evening To jeer when he comes in through his window.

truth is,

My fingers numb and I drop a sweat, While tending to my flowers. Droplets fall and sustain the roots, My warmth provides for its growth.

I’m only capable of loving you in extremes so If I’d cast on you such fiery passion, will you start to find shade? If I’d carry you to the highest mountain, will you be unafraid?

I see beauty in this field, The variety of colors, scents, and feelings, The beauty of hard work and diligent cultivation, The experience of every wilting, blooming, and budding. This garden represents my mind, Take a look around.

But he does care ‘bout his controversy. He would halt, look, and implore the people: “Is it wrong to be unique and quirky?” “Is it wrong to be unlike you people?”

Am I Wrong - Nico & Vinz

Soulful eyes with stories buried deep I should've known as I take the leap that I would free-fall into the fathomless crypt ... never to recover of you

I diligently water them, These budding sweet-tinted flora.

Surprisingly, despite all of these things, The man sees nothing wrong with his strangeness. He is numb to their malignance that stings; Still persisting to keep the door’s absence.

A Man Who Leaves and Comes in His House Through the Window

Your soul is wine centuries old You take me to places in tales untold If my heart is jewelry, consider it sold for a love like this, darling, I'd trade the world

This garden represents my mind, Take a look around.

They throw waiting parties to laugh at him; Take pictures and videos insultingly. They gossip and spread rumors about him; Take pleasure in his weirdness so rudely.

Before The Coffee Gets Cold by Langub, Ckarhyzna Zarrah a.k.a. "Pablo"

Where’d All the Time Go? - Dr. Dog

I’ve never been a big fan of coffee, maybe cause it’s either too bitter or too sweet Or maybe it’s cause it now reminds me too much of adulthood and all the important people I have yet to meet But I remember the longing, the urge I had as a child whenever a cup of coffee was near “Just a tiny sip please”, I’d beg my parents cause I wanted nothing more than to feel grown up and that much was clear

For a second, he stops talking, But I didn't say anything. I don't want to risk him stopping, Because he's giving me a glimpse of his head without realizing,

Or does he realize?

Sometimes they’d relent and they’d give me their mugs which were way too big for my tiny hands Most of the time they’d refuse and hand me an apple juice box, alongside a reprimanding glance “Coffee’s for grown ups”, I heard about at least twice a day That phrase infuriated me because coffee was just like every other drink to me in a way

"You see, once you open that book, You can't undo it. Once you read the first chapter, You digest it. And when it's finished, You put it on a shelf on display. You look at it from time to time, Just to have a replay. You know what's inside now, There's no mystery that could raise your brow. No reason to look at it closer.

But I’d sit on the seesaw or the swing, sipping away at my apple juice without a care My prepubescent taste buds were enjoying the drink, but that want for caffeine was still there Was it the idea of rebellion that made me want another sip? Or was it the “pool of maturity” that I so badly wanted to take a dip? Without warning, the years passed me by and I found myself lighting my 18th birthday candles Despite all the greetings and cheers, I couldn’t think straight because I was now an adult with so much more things to handle

Which is why I prefer people to judge me by my cover.

Suddenly coffee tasted bland and I hated the way it would make me feel My mouth needed something less-adult, a juice box maybe, to hide from the maturity that was very much real And so here I am, itching to keep my childhood alive just a little bit longer Thinking that maybe looking through old photo albums and rewatching my favourite animated movies would transport me to a childhood slumber Where’d all the time go and why’d I ever wish my childhood away? I’m clinging on to my juice box with a tight grip, hoping the caffeine I had before doesn’t decide to stay

But now there’s a mug of coffee that sits beside my computer with endless tabs open College applications, scholarship competitions, hoping I’d stand out and get chosen There I was, juice box in my hand still sipping on the dregs of my youth, wishing my future wouldn’t unfold Hoping that I can make the taste of childhood last just a little bit longer, before the coffee gets cold

Have you ever wondered how lucky 30-year frozen embryos are? On the 31st of October 2022, Lydia and Timothy Ridgeway, twins in Oregon were born, and they hold the title of the longest frozen embryos that have ever been born alive. Those embryos were frozen in 1992, decades ahead now, yet were born alive and healthy twins. According to the National Embryo Donation Center, the 30 years frozen embryos was the latest title holder following the previously known record holder Molly Gibson, who was from an embryo that had been frozen for nearly 27 years and was born in 2020. The embryos were preserved for nearly three decades in liquid nitrogen at nearly 200 degrees below zero, and were kept at a West Coast fertility lab until 2007, the donor's parents donated them to the National Embryo Donation Center in Knoxville, TN.

Have you ever been curious about the age of the universe? Wondered how everything began and how it came to be? These questions continue to probe the depths of our understanding of how long it has been since things first began. In the year 2020, It was reported that the universe is about 13.8 billion years old, according to research published by an international team of astrophysicists. However, we continue to evaluate ourselves on the accuracy of the findings coming from these reports. The leftover light from the Big Bang or the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) was mapped by both a spacecraft and telescope which gave scientists an idea of how long ago the explosive birth of the universe had happened. According to their theory, the Universe originated as a searing plasma in which light packets were drawn to electrons that eventually cooled for photons to break free and cause a dispersion throughout

34

SCIENCE

Philip and Rachel Ridgeway have four other children, ages 8, 6, 3, and almost 2, none conceived via IVF or donors. The twins' parents were Christian and believed that the twins were a tremendous blessing and a miracle. Cleveland clinic stated that there is 49 percent a live birth rate per transfer for frozen embryos. Embryo donation is when embryos unused from one person's in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment are given to another. Sometimes the embryos are frozen so they're preserved and used later, a process called "embryo freezing" or "cryopreservation." Not all frozen or fresh embryos are destined to be born alive, the twins were given 30 years earlier but waited for the longest to be able to be born alive and become a lucky human being.

—space and form the CMB. Scientists calculated the estimated age of the Universe based on how far away the scattered lights are. Steve Choi, a National Science Foundation astronomy and astrophysics postdoctoral fellow at Cornell University quoted, "The larger the distance we measure to the most recent time photons scattered, the older the age of the universe, since the CMB had to travel a longer distance to get to us". Connecting data from many agencies confirmed the same record that the universe is indeed 13.8 billion years old, although it is feasible that the age is even older because our telescopes are now far more advanced than ever before, thus a change in this number is expected.

NASA revealed a prediction that the US coastline may be deemed to swamp in the year 2050 along the lines of the findings from a variety of research-based agencies.

—equivalent to 35 to 45 centimeters for the Gulf Coast, and 4 to 8 inches equivalent to 10 to 20 centimeters for the West Coast.

The quantity of ice melting is increasing, the sea is steadily rising above the normal waterline, and the extreme changes brought on by climate change are what lead an unfalsifiable gauge to forecast that the US shoreline may flood in the next few decades. This will pave the way for future catastrophic and bothersome flooding to affect towns close to the country's coastline.

David Holland, a known physical climate scientist and professor of Mathematics at New York University, says that the quality of the satellite data is excellent, so the findings are reliable. "The study demonstrates that the global ocean is rising and that the rise is accelerating. The projected rise for the Gulf coast of about 1 foot by 2050 is enormous, and it has the potential to make hurricanerelated storm surges even worse than they are now," he added in a statement.

The actual projection developed by several agencies including NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the US Geological Survey that sea level rise over three decades by region is 10 to 14 inches equivalent to 25 to 35 centimeters on average for the East Coast, 14 to 18 inches

Before things worsen, it is our collective responsibility to start taking action. Let us transform micro efforts into macro effects for a future we all deserve.

On the 30th of October, 1961, on the barren island of Novaya Zemlya, Russia, the largest nuclear weapon, a thermonuclear bomb, was recorded as the most powerful man-made explosion. The Soviet Union dropped the RDS-220 Tsar Bomb, also known as Big Ivan or the King of the Bomb, which was developed in 1961 by a team of Soviet physicists that included Andrey Sakharov. It had an explosive force of 50 to 60 megatons of TNT, more than 1,500 times the combined force of the atomic bombs detonated on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and 10 times more powerful than all the munitions expended during World War II. The Earth itself has unleashed megaton-plus explosions for eons. Given its size, the device could have never been considered for operational use. Instead, it was viewed as a propaganda weapon and among the largest human-caused explosions on record.

"Actually it was not really our plan that we are really expecting to win in straight sets, I know Nursing is really preparing also for us for this championship game... From the beginning until the end I know and I trust my players so much and I'm also glad they're always listening to my instruction, I know that we almost got the fourth set but it was not for us so we decided to bounce back in the fifth set and win the championship game," sambit ng SOE's Women's Volleyball Team Coach, Mr. Richard Casicas matapos ang laro.
