With the Maroon Inkers' strong commitment to journalism and loyalty to the Cobra community, it is safe to say that we have maintained the excellence of our Senior Inkers. But it was not an easy feat, especially now that we are still amidst the pandemic. We were still in the process of figuring out things for the second year around, but fortunately now quick enough to adapt to the situations. Though things did not go the way we planned and how we wanted. Then, we got struck by an unexpected storm that led us to lose light and made things more complex. We got lost in the darkness and felt hopeless. The burning passion got slowly extinguished, and it was a tough battle between our dreams and survival. But as the days progress, we then found ourselves back on track. Reignited. The burning passion. The flames. It's back. We got back up unto our feet. Stronger, persevered, committed, and more resilient. Nothing can intercept the Maroon Inkers' undying and unwavering passion for journalism and service to the student body and the institution. And with it, we continue the Maroon Ink legacy amidst all uncertainties, uphold the inking traditions and become the voice of the voiceless. With the reignited fire, we continue to surpass the bounds with our burning passion and service. To continue inking advocacies and solidifying the truth. To make changes, one article at a time.

Sa kabila ng mga pagbabagong ating napagdaanan, kakayahan at paninindigan ng mga estudyanteng mamamahayag ay kailanma’y hindi natinag sa paglahad ng mga balitang tapat at sa patuloy na pagserbisyo para sa pamantasang humubog ng ating mga kakayahan at sa ating lipunan.

Ang pandemya at mga sakunang napagdaanan na nagsilbing hamon sa pagkakaroon ng malinaw na komunikasyon ay hindi naging hadlang upang ang publikasyon ay maging instrumento sa paglaganap at pagbunyag ng mga balitang mapagkakatiwalaan at sakto upang ang mga estudyante sa sariling unibersidad at mamamayan sa ating komunidad ay mamulat. The COMSELEC finished the canvassing of votes, less than a week after the elections. The official results for the 2022 SBO Elections were released on March 31, 2022.

Spearheaded by the Senior High School Student Body Organization (SBO), the event was broadcasted on the SWU PHINMA SHS SBO’s SWU WE Connect Facebook page. The virtual acquaintance party, with its theme: “Sailing ships of distant bound camaraderie through online anchored bonds,” was hosted by SBO Councilor Hon. Jee Rama and COMSELEC Chairperson Maria Kristina Alarde. The SWU SHS Faculty and Staff, as well as the incumbent SBO officers, were also presented by the hosts. On the same day, the SBO also organized and held exciting activities for the students, including a guessing game and an intermission number from one of the Grade 12 Students, Nicole Maxilom. Google Meet links were also posted on the SWU - WE Connect page, where students can virtually interact with each other. The live broadcast was then concluded after the GoogleMeet links were posted.

Aspirants for positions in the Student Body Organization made their bid official in the filing of Certificate of Candidacy (COCs) which ran from February 28 to March 4, 2022. After filing for candidacy, the aspirants went through a three day interview spearheaded by the Commission of Student Elections (COMSELEC) on March 7 9, 2022. The complete list of candidates gunning for a seat in the Student Body Organization was released by the COMSELEC last March 14, 2022. Cobras casted their votes for the 2022 SBO Elections, held via Google Forms on March 22 25, 2022.

most of us have lost some or even most of what were our normal ways of interacting with those we love, as we try to keep each other safe. As we continue to face ongoing uncertainty brought by this health crisis, losing face to face contact can definitely feel stressful and simultaneously frightening.

On a brighter note, now is a good time to remind ourselves that despite it all, we are also partaking in something rather beautiful; we have come together to lift each other up against the adversities as one unified family. The Maroon community, in celebrating gratitude, prosperity, and triumphs amidst these trying times, took part in the grandest annual school year opening of Southern Philippines could offer, the Mundo Granate 2021. It was on the 24th day of October, that we witnessed the launching of a stronger SWU PHINMA brand, igniting the Cobra spirit all in becoming #TheBestYou. Students from the Senior High School and College Department, including several school personnel dominated the event stage as they showcased their talents and skills with exuding passion. Journeys of recovery from the coronavirus, as well as how the school community had played a crucial role in the recovery process, had also been recounted during this celebration. The Cobra community remains to bring positivity and inspiration amidst isolation and moments of great uncertainty.

The SBO Officers of S.Y. ‘21 ’22 concluded their service through an Accomplishment Report and turning over of documents to the newly elected SBO officers.

Students, teachers, and non teaching staff celebrated the 76th Founding Anniversary of Southwestern University PHINMA (SWU PHINMA) on the 6th day of May 2022. Students from different departments and colleges were gathered together at the university and prepared exciting activities and booths. Earlier that day, students attended a thanksgiving mass at the Interfaith Chapel in honor of the university's founding anniversary. COVID 19 health and safety protocols were also strictly implemented and observed to ensure everyone ' s safety.

It has been years in the making for these athletes, who have been training for the CESAFI this year. The day when coach Ireginald Jacson selected some ML players at SWU to be the one representing the school in the CESAFI ML tournament remains a fond memory for the 5 ML players as they reminisce that moment. The game was thrilling. It was a close fight for both SWU and UC fighting for the victory. It was the only game that reached game 3 in favor of UC, 2 1. “Somehow, I felt disappointed for the game because it was already ours but in just one snap the game turned upside down, I’m so thrilled to win for the next game,” Roa said.

Loberanes, meanwhile, shares that the game was fun and exciting that even his co roster enjoyed a lot. He said that as a Team Captain of the Cobra Esports MLBB category it was his pleasure to be one of the representatives, he also stated that “the other schools are well mannered people and friendly especially the UC players.”

Representing the Southwestern University PHINMA in the 2022 CESAFI Esports League our Mobile Legends team competes over University of Cebu last April 30. Jerwin Loberanes as the Mid Laner and the team captain along with his team Alger Bentain as the Experience Lane, Klyde Derek Roa as the Roamer, Mark Lester Ramilo as Jungler, and John Roel Lucino as Gold. Loberanes was once the focal point of the offense for UC, serving as the team’s high volume carries even just in their practices before the CESAFI match.

The transition from the rank games to the CESAFI League level can be daunting for many athletes. Many aspects of your life as a player may alter, such as sitting for excessively lengthy routines, increasing exposure, and higher skill levels. There is a sudden push to deal with these changes; some fly high and earn a reputation for themselves in the professional scene, while others can't bear the heat of the league's increased complexity. For this year’s SWU MLBB team, adjustments were made to live up to the standards of being a professional ML player for this pandemic happened. Bentain also shares the same sentiment, as playing in the CESAFI was a good experience. For him, the positioning of the heroes and drafting is different in the tournament as to just playing ranked games, it is a different level of competition in the CESAFI league, so he did his best with some laning phases and clashes. “I’m willing to admit my mistakes during the scrims and during the tournament. I’m willing to talk it out with our team,” he adds. For Roa, many factors were taken into consideration, “There were a lot of adjustments, especially in communication, online is totally different because as a team who should be sticking together but we can’t. We met during the CESAFI tournament practice, and it was our first meeting. So, we need to get to know each other to build our team’s chemistry and it takes time since some in our team are not from Cebu city, hence we had a hard time meeting face to face.”

Jungler echoes Lucino’s sentiments explaining that there are “huge differences” between a rank game and the CESAFI league, citing that “the tempo has increased.” “We were mentally prepared since we were ready for the tournament day. We had our practices also as preparation for the big day. There was no pressure at all,” Roa added. Only time will tell if these young and promising ML players adjust well to their next ML tournaments. For now, they are starting their journey by competing with Cebu’s one of the reputable Esports tournaments along with top professional ML players and that alone is a major achievement. The sky is the limit for them, no matter what kind of success they can achieve throughout their careers.

On the other hand, despite the hectic schedule of each player, they were impressive for their skills and ability to play both offensively and defensively were in order. Before participating in the CESAFI MLBB League, Laner was already competing in some ML tournaments and continued his passion for ML in representing our school in the CESAFI league where he suited up perfectly for the SWU team, while Roa has been playing ML for the past 4 years and also competed various of ML tournaments over the past years including the SIGLAKAS last 2018 2019. Not long ago, these individuals were only trying to make a name for themselves by joining some ML tournaments, but today, they are now part of the Southwestern University PHINMA’s history. Looking back, in several ways, local ML tournaments have helped shape them to be the skilled athletes they are now. It was all about “teamwork” and the trust of each member in the team. The players said that before the game, their coach Ireginald Jacson told them to always relax and have the presence of mind, remember all the things they’ve been practicing, and to stay focused during the game.
