CONCLUSION
Earth is practical and subjective. By exploring the relationship of three spaces; on the ground, above ground and below ground, I learn how to treat each zones differently. As a material, earth has diverse types of technologies and techniques that are analysed from the precedents, blog images and design exercises. The selected material for a building is influencing it’s form and function. Herring Island as the project site taught me to construct a building that belongs to a specific site. A building that is connected to it’s environment, users and time have a unique quality that will be gone if the building is put somewhere else. As for the skills learnt, the narrative, words, drawings and psyhical model illustrates how exploration of ideas can be presented. Lastly, both earth theme and secrets are poetic and abstract elements in this subject. This is complementing the pragmatic approach that the designer has.
