3. GENERAL INFORMATION: 3/1. Accommodation: Participants will be accommodated in primary schools in Szentendre, in classrooms and in the gym hall. We request everyone to bring sheets, a pillow and a sleeping bag. In addition to the showers available inside the building, mobile showers to be set up outside the building will make washing more comfortable. There will be medical service and security guards at these quarters. It shall be forbidden to take alcoholic drinks to the sleeping quarters. Smoking and the use of open flame is also strictly forbidden at the sleeping quarters. Security guards may check observation of these rules. Should any damage be done to the equipment or the building at the sleeping quarters, damage done shall be compensated by the team sleeping at the given venue during the period of the festival (by 29 July 2011 at the latest). 3/2. Meals: Breakfast will be provided at the sleeping quarters, in the school’s cafeteria, lunch will be served in the downtown Central Dining Hall and the dinner will take place at the location of the evening events, on the Postás Beach. 3/3. Security: Security guards will be provided on an ongoing basis at the sleeping quarters, the dining halls and the venues of the events. 3/4. Transportation: The sleeping quarters, the dining halls and the event venues can be reached on foot by a 15-20 minutes walk. 3/5. The River Danube Several programmes of the festival will be organised on the bank of the River Danube. Kindly note that it is strictly forbidden to bathe in the Danube!

4. EPF OPENING DAY: 4/1. Ecumenical service: The European Peoples’ Festival will begin with an ecumenical service at 12:00 on 23 July 2011. The service will be celebrated by the representatives of the town’s churches. We kindly request that about 20-25 people from each team be present at the service. Venue: Postás Beach or inside the Péter-Pál Church (in case of rain) 4/2. Opening ceremony: The meeting place for the opening gala will be on the Templom square. The parade starts from here towards to the Postás Beach, the venue of the opening ceremony. Here, the mayor of Szentendre will welcome the participants and open the festival. 4/3. Euro-Village (stands presenting the countries): The venue of the Euro-Village with the stands representing the countries will be on the Postás Beach, the location of the evening events. Every country will have a booth of 9m² that can be locked. The Euro-Village will be opened by the mayor of Szentendre at 19:00 p.m. on 23 July. Stands will be open from 17:00-22:00 on 23-25 July (from Saturday to Monday), from 18:00-22:00 on 26 July (Tuesday, the day of the excursion), and from 17:00-22:00 on 27 July (Wednesday). You are kindly requested to pack up the goods after 22:00 on 27 July, and to remove them from the stands in the morning of 28 July (Thursday).

5/2. Basketball: Basketball will be played from 10:00-12:00 and from 14:00-18:00 on Sunday, 24.07.2011. Venue: Barcsay Jenő Primary School gym Rules: In accordance with the rules of European basketball. 1. Deviation from the rules: - nominations: at least 3 women – 3 men, maximum 10 people altogether - two women players will always have to be on the court - playing time for group matches will be 2 x 10 minutes running clock, with 5 minutes break in between; - request for time-out in every 10 minutes - 5 minutes break between matches - if number of points are equal at the end of group matches, it is a draw (1 point) - points at group matches: 3 points for win, 1 point for draw, 0 point for defeat - the winners of the group matches will play the semi-finals, then the final 2. Pétanque: Time and date: from 10.00 on Sunday, 24 July 2011 Venue: municipal public area Participants: 3 persons/country Rules: Every team shall be composed of two men and a woman, or one man and two women Players of the various countries will be divided into 4 groups The first two places in each group will play for the 1st to 8th place. The 3rd and 4th places in every group will play for the 9th to 15th place. Points will be decided by professional judges. 5/6 Archery / riding: Archery: from 10:00-12:00; 14:00-18:00 on Wednesday, 27. 07. 2011. Venue: Tófenék, equestrian ranch 1. Participants: 2 persons per country (one woman, one man), totalling about 30 people, divided into groups of 7-8 by drawing lots. 2. Organisation: - walk to the venue on a marked footpath; distance about 1 km, roughly 15 minutes - start at 10:30 - team formation in a playful manner; lots will be drawn to divide the expected 30 people into four teams marked with colours; thereafter the colours will compete. - at 15:00: evaluation, rewarding with small gifts indicative of Hungary’s traditions. - prior to the competition, the tasks can be tried, brief practice is possible - everybody takes part in the tasks, the equestrian event may be omitted - the average of the team and the best points of the individual will be summed up in the competition. 3. Events: - archery target practice: 6 shots at a cardboard sheet of a diameter of 30 cm placed shoulder high at a distance of 15 m; hit: 1 point - bird shooting: balloons fixed at a height of about 5 m will have to be hit shooting from almost below, using “flu-flu” feathered arrows, 3 shots each, hit: 1 point - lance throwing: using a light throwing stick corresponding to the pilum of the ancient Romans, a roughly 1 sq m soft wooden panel will have to be hit at a distance of 6 m (the lance stays with its point in the soft wood), 3 throws each, 1 point can be made by each throw, altogether 3 points - equestrian archery: shooting a roughly 1 sq m cardboard panel located in the centre of the course 7 m to the side from a horse moving along a course of 49.5 m; hit while riding 5 points, while trotting 10 points, at a gallop 20 points; 3 persons per team must participate. Equipment for this competition will be provided by the organisers. People may use their own historical fling-back cross-bows and arrows. Technical cross-bows, sports crossbows, screw-type cross-bows shall not be used! Those who would like to shoot from a horse, should also bring along their derbies. Those who wish to ride at a gallop should also bring equestrian boots or leg guards! 9
5/7. Dragon boat (combined teams): The dragon boat is a paddled water craft, originated in China over 2000 years ago. There will be 2 boats racing with 18-20 persons (delegated from 3-4 countries). It will take place at the downtown part of the Danube river, so the fans and supporters can watch and cheer form the Duna-korzó (the bank of the river) The pilots and the drummers will be provided by the organizers. We request you to delegate those members, who have good swimming skils. The safety of the boat race will be guaranteed by the organizers and the water rescue.
6. CULTURAL COMPETENCIES Through the competitions, we would like to call attention to the cultural values characterising our town, the genius loci. As one of the central objectives of EPF is getting to know one another, the games should provide an opportunity for gaining a deeper insight into Szentendre and, through it, to some extent into Hungary’s history and arts, at least for those participating in the cultural events. 6/1. Painting competition – Szentendre, the town of painters Plain air in Szentendre – we request that the paintings are painted at the public VENUES DESIGNATED BY US! We would like to have the painters in groups to paint the designated scenery or townscape view. Painting should recall the atmosphere of an artist settlement, the joint work, which used to be frequent at all European artist settlements. It is no problem, it is even desirable, for participants to work together, talk to one another, see one another’s work. We provide primed canvases and easels. Techniques may be chosen freely – oil, acryl, tempera, etc.
6/2. Photo competition 3 subject matters – we request a digital photo of each! 1. What is beautiful in Szentendre? 2. What is not beautiful in Szentendre? 3. EPF – 2011. Anecdotal picture, document of the festival (photos can be made even prior to the announcement of the competition, but they can only relate to festival events) 6/3. Ghymkana – Szentendre, the town of museums and historical monuments Two teams of maximum 2-3 members can be nominated to the competition from two age groups – the 18 - 39 year old and those above the age of 40. The younger ones will walk around the historical downtown area; the elder ones will wander about the 5 town museums and 7 permanent art exhibitions to solve the tasks. Teams will start at 15 minute intervals. Evaluation of the competition will be effected by the time taken to perform the task with accurate measurement. Points:

6/4. EPF Theatre – Street theatre The event will be linked to the programme series of the Szentendre Summer (an audience interested in theatre is also expected) The street theatre performances will have to link up with the themes of the days of the festival (earth, water, air, fire) to one or even every one of the selected themes. In accordance with the formal requirements of street theatre and eliminating language barriers, performances should convey the message without text, by way of miming or dumb show, eventually music. The period of performance may be max. 20 minutes. Performance venues: public areas in Szentendre’s historical downtown area (there will be a possibility to choose); please indicate any technical requirements in advance. 6/5. Trip of adventures at the Open-Air Museum of Folk Art www.skanzen.hu
7. GASTRONOMY Gastronomical demonstration will be organised at the Open-Air Museum of Folk Art on Thursday, 28 July 2011. Participating countries are requested to send an English language recipe for a dish that can be cooked in a stew pot over an open fire before the festival (by 31 May 2011). We collect the recipes and participants may draw the dish of another participating country on the day of opening the festival, which they will have to cook based on the recipe. In this way, everyone will cook a dish of another country, and have it tasted by the participants. The country sending the recipe will give its opinion on the dish. (For cooking, stew pots and firewood will be provided, but ingredients will have to be obtained by the participants.) 8. FREE DAY (HUNGARY’S DAY)
9. CLOSING CEREMONY The mayor of Szentendre and the EPF organisers will evaluate the festival and ceremoniously close the event at the Central Theatre at 20:00 on Thursday, 28 July 2011. European Peoples’ Festival 2012. Frederikssund - Denmark
10. FAIR PLAY As in the previous years, a “Fair Play Award” will be presented at the closing ceremony to the team, which shows the most respect and consideration for others, fits best into the community, develops the friendliest relations with the teams of the other participating countries, reinforces European cohesion, etc.
