FROM THE DESK OF T BAR...
Welcome to the “Best of the Breeds Bull sale” on March 26, 2023, at Heartland Livestock Services, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. This being the 19th annual event, from its premiere sale in the Leross Auction Mart, Best of the Breeds has grown and matured into one of the leading, if not the best, all breeds bull sale each spring. It has been the source of many breeder bulls in all divisions and 2023 will be no different as the headliners were shelved for this sale.
The Simmental offering by Forden Fairview is deep and exciting with homo polled Fleckvieh and Red and Black domestics… their strongest offering to date.
Blair from Goodview presents a powerful lineup of Red and Black Gelbvieh. The Gelbvieh section is the strongest offered in the nation with several breeder bulls lurking.
The folks from Twin Heritage represent the Red Angus part of the sale. They come to town with sleep easy calving sire’s ideal for heifer pastures. They raise performance bulls who all have a high degree of maternal value.
The Black Angus comes from Black Ridge Angus Farm. This is a multi-generation seedstock operation known for its high standard of quality and great customer service.
Charolais were the base that started this sale. Harcourts and Zentners are the Charolais suppliers. Their offering is large and powerful. Included is a divisional champion from Agribition and some two-year-olds for bigger cows and bigger pastures. We all know the value of a Charolais bull walking in your pasture.
This is a sale one should not miss – onestop shopping for your next sires. The quality is high, and the breeders rank among the best…. a great way to spend a Sunday!
If we may be of assistance prior to, or sale day, feel free to contact any of the T Bar Team or myself, we will help you in a professional manner. Chris
FORDEN FAIRVIEW FARM LTD.
Welcome to our 19th Annual Bull Sale. We are very grateful and humbled by the loyalty and support we have received from everyone over the years. It is your interest in our program that drives us to produce these bulls while always incorporating new genetics and using the bloodlines which you have come to know and trust.
We have been very pleased watching this group of bulls develop. This year’s offering is as diverse as you will find at any Simmental bull sale with reds, blacks, fullblood and Fleckvieh bulls. These are the first sons of Theory & Evolution who created quite a buzz at our 2021 sale. We are again offering sons of the AI sires Sysco and Reputation as well as a good selection of bulls from our herd sires. All bulls are DNA tested for color, dilutor and polled or are known by pedigree. This is an investment we make each year offering you more certainly in your breeding program.
All bulls are Express Verified and treated with Pyramid FP 5 Presponse & Tasvax/Fermicon 7 spring and fall as well as poured with Ivermectin and Boss. The bulls also receive double vaccination of fusogard for prevention of foot rot.
Our Bull Pen Open House is March 18 & 19 from 1-5PM, please join us! This is a great opportunity to look over the bulls prior to sale day as well as see the maternal strength that comes along with the bulls. Each of the kids has a bull in the sale this year so they will be there to answer any questions you may have!
Like us on Facebook “Forden Fairview Farm – Simmentals” to follow our program. Videos will be available on our facebook page, DLMS and buyagro.com in early March.

Vault is an attractive, sound structured bull that is a true standout. His extra age, cherry red color and powerful design give him that tremendous presence when you tour the pen. His dam comes from the same cow family as our Lexi and Marci donor cows that have had many high selling bulls in this sale. On the top side he is sired by our Architect bull who is a brother to Payroll and a son of our Sering donor cow. With Vault’s pedigree, performance and polled status the opportunities are endless.

These two flush mates are sired by the $165,000 Reputation bull that has been proven in herds across the country to produce the right type of fleckvieh cattle for today’s market. Their dam in none other than our Eloquence donor, who knocked it out of the park with these two brothers and three full sisters in our replacement pen. We’ve flushed her to numerous bulls and every combination clicks. Eloquence daughters are powerful, sound footed females with excellent udders, and we have 10 of them in the cow herd/replacement pen with another flush of calves on the ground this year from Payroll. These bulls are very similar in type – stout, big middled, wide topped, hairy with great dark color and well pigmented. President is Homo Polled and Prime is smooth Hetero Polled. We believe these two bulls have a lot to offer the industry. Backed by the proven Reputation bull and our top donor cow that has 25 progeny on the ground, there is no guess work here.

Origin is another son of Eloquence and is sired by Sibelle Pol Darwin. This combination worked so well to produce the $51,500 Evolution bull we sold to Keets Simmentals in 2021 as well as our Theory herdsire, so we did the flush again. Origin is liver red with large goggles and is smooth polled. He is big hipped, with a deep quarter and full of muscle. We have 4 full sisters in the herd and they are key pieces in our fleckvieh program moving forward.

We have been producing these fleckvieh hybrid bulls for a number of years now. This cross provides hybrid vigour as the fleckvieh and purebred bloodlines are unrelated. In addition we see added muscle, hair and overall performance and some chrome (which Strategy has a bit of). Strategy is a thick made bull with a big square hip and lots of length & width. Welcome to the 19th Annual Best of the Breeds Bull Sale. We are very excited about the bulls we will have on offer once again this year. We will have both red and black bulls that will work both on heifers, as well as performance bulls to produce those scale busting steers. Our bulls come from good footed, neat uddered, low maintenance cows. At Goodview we put a lot of emphasis on our cows, so you can buy with confidence knowing that the bull you purchased is from a sound, problem free cow herd.
Gelbvieh is a continental breed that has very strong maternal traits such as docility and rich milk that is produced in tight, correct udders. Gelbvieh will add that extra muscle to give your calves the extra pounds you’re looking for at sale time. Gelbvieh calves are born with vigor, which is one of the reasons Gelbvieh influenced females wean more pounds of calf per cow exposed. Use Gelbvieh bulls in your crossbreeding program to get early maturing, long lasting females, as well as sale topping steer calves. We continue to use a high fiber developer program. We wean the bulls off on oats then after 60 days they are pail fed a bull developer ration along with barley silage and grass alfalfa hay. This diet develops a healthy rumen, while maintaining good long-term health. We target a 3.5 lb. average gain to develop good footed, long lasting bulls that will last for their new owners. Please join us on March 26 in Yorkton to evaluate our bulls and we can talk about your bull needs. If you can’t make the sale, feel free to call or stop by anytime to tour the bull pen and the cows with their 2023 calves at side. Join us Saturday evening at our hotel and stay the night. If you purchase a bull from Goodview Gelbvieh, we will pay for your one-night stay. Please join us for an afternoon of visiting and cattle viewing on Sunday, March 12 for our customer appreciation day and bull viewing.
CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY AND BULL VIEWING SUNDAY, MARCH 12 AT 1:00 PM!

Knockout 245K has been a standout from the beginning. He presented himself well on the show road this fall at the Futurity and Agribition. He is moderate in frame but possesses the hip and rib shape that the cattle industry desires. We have been breeding these traits here at Goodview for a few generations and are getting to where we want to be. We believe that a heifer bull doesn’t need to look like a heifer bull. They should have the hip and rib shape like a power bull and produce daughters that are broody and sons that sire steers that grow. Knockout’s dam BLB Black Magic 12G is a broody Exact Combination daughter that has a bright future here at Goodview. 245K is sired by BLB Hitch 23H who has done a great job producing the way we had hoped. You will see more sons of his as you go through the sale offering that pattern just like Knockout 245K.We believe 245K will work on heifers and sire stout moderate daughters that will out produce themselves.

Since weaning he has been a growing fool, gaining over 4 lbs. A day with a wpda of 3.8. Not surprising is the fact that his dam is a Gung Ho daughter, as is as our FLAD Element herd sire. Two years ago we had an awful drought, but this past year was stellar for growing pasture, hay and silage. We were very blessed this past year, many were not. This set of bulls are developing similar to our past bull pens. They did not receive any creep feed except for the 2 weeks prior to weaning to decrease weaning stress. This year the silage they are getting is peas, alfalfa and barley mixture, more silage this year and less whole oats since we purchase our grain. They have been gaining well on feed, but not pushed, and we feel they are in excellent shape to go out and breed. Feel free to call or stop by at anytime. Please also check out our facebook page for pictures, videos and updates.

This Attractive son is going to be a bigger framed bull, he is long and big ribbed. His calves should have great growth! His dam raises a big calf every year and keeps her condition, she is a very solid producer, wish I had a whole herd of cows like her, beautiful udder and excellent foot. We kept her 2019 bull here and used him hard last year.
We purchased Bravo, the 2020 lead off high selling Black Angus bull from Lewis Farms. Before they sold him, Lewis Farms drew semen and used him in their own herd. He has a great spread of an 80lb birth weight to 1537lb yearling weight, and is in the top 10% of the breed for growth. He is hairy, stout, moderate but exceptionally thick with large testicles, and he has passed that down to his calves. His daughters are having their first calves now, they are looking great and the udders are beautiful.
A cracker of a calf off a first calf heifer, can’t complain when a first calver weans off calves like this. He also has performed awesome after weaning! This guy is very wide across the top, long, super hairy, big belly and very quiet too. These Bravo sons are peas in a pod.
BLACK RIDGE BRAVO 4K
Another excellent calf from a first calf heifer, Bravo was almost exclusively used in our heifer pen and now for two years has had top quality calves. This guy could be a twin to the MJO 13K bull in the pen. Hairy strong topped big bulls.
A flashy stout bull with a great pedigree to boot! Bravo, Bank Note, Power Up and the immortal Right Time. This guy has some jam to him, he is long, wide, strong foot and bone with great angus character, awesome hair and growth. Quality and depth of pedigree run deep in this bull. His dam was a top end heifer calf, bred heifer, and she catches your eye. We hope she follows in her mother’s footsteps and keeps raising good ones.
A little short on ears, it was a cold day when we found him, but it hasn’t slowed him down. This bull is a real eye catcher in the pen, nice front end, excellent hair, well balanced and thick. His dam is a goodlooking cow who keeps her condition when raising a big stout calf. Lots of solid cow power in the pedigree with Insight, Tiger, Banknote and Donna.
Our first set of calves from this bull, he is a moderate beef machine, low to the ground with an excellent foot under him. He has big nuts, small angus head, walks like a cat and for the past two years has been used on a section of rocky pasture with 80 cows and he never loses weight. He sires deep middled heavily muscled bull calves which are impressive.
This bull was our biggest calf at weaning cracking the 1000lb mark, he has been at the top of the pen since birth. He has a nice angus head and shoulder, but is wide, big middled and a big rump. His dam is just a young cow, we retained her last year’s heifer as well. She has an excellent udder with awesome milk. His weaning and yearling weight epds are the top 5 and 6% of the breed. You will find him sale day
This Dewalt son has been a masculine meat machine all year, he is a moderate and a heavily muscled bull. He is long and has had the herd bull presence all year long. These next bulls are all sired by our home raised herd sire, these are his last calves as we sold him to a neighbour. Welcome to the 19th annual Best of the Breeds bull sale! As we write this, it’s the middle of calving season, the time where we see the results of hours of discussions, research and decision making. Like many of us who have been doing this a long time, we appreciate the value of using bulls with shorter gestation, that produce calves that are strong, full of vigor, and grow like crazy. That is one of the greatest benefits our customers have for selecting a Charolais bull. The other is in the fall when they wean those big tan calves that bring a premium at the auction market. You not only see it on the price of the steers, but there’s a premium on the heifer calves too. We are excited to introduce new bloodlines
this year that we know will deliver on what you’ve come to expect from Harcourt bulls; calving ease, performance, hair, and great dispositions. If you have any questions on the bulls, give us a call or stop by the farm for a visit. Check out the videos on our website www.harcourtcharolais.com or visit our Facebook page for regular updates. See you sale day!

203K Stealth is the result of years of putting the right cow families together that have both the EPD’s and the phenotype to produce a great one. 920G is in the top 2% for weaning and top 3% for yearling weight. She has a perfect udder and is the biggest ribbed cow on the place. She hit a homerun when she dropped Stealth last January. We knew within a few weeks he was going to be special. He is one of the biggest ribbed, most complete bull calves you will find. The comment from Agribition Judge Jill Mader was that this bull should be used heavily in the future going forward. We couldn’t agree more. Stealth has a ton of hair, a great skull, explosive shape and complete structure. When you study his genetic profile it doesn’t get much better. It includes cows that are at the top of the breed in performance, along with the same genetics as the most dominant Charolais female in a long time in Berkley. If you want a bull that has it all, check him out. He can take your program wherever you need it to go. Winning in the ring and in the pen at home where your buyers will love what they see, bulls and heifers. Selling full possession, 2/3 interest.
HOMO POLLED
209K patterns very similar to his ¾ brother Stealth. Like all White Bear offspring he is bold ribbed, smooth fronted and fault free. He has excellent feet and great temperament. His mother is in the top 1% for weaning EPD and top 2% for yearling weight. She produced the mother of Stealth so you know predictability of throwing a great one is already built in to this young herdsire. Calving ease, performance and fault free are just a few words we would use to describe this young stud!
4 GENERATIONS POLLED
201K is an outcross bull that checks a lot of boxes. The Whiplash bull that sired this stud is a calving ease sire used heavily on heifers at both Steppler Farms and Pro Char. The unique thing about him is that his sons also have incredible performance. 201K is a shining example of this. He is complete from his great skull, superior structure and muscle pattern. His mother is the epitome of what a first calver should do. Calve on her own, milk heavy, rebreed early and wean a big calf. She was the high selling bred heifer out of the Steppler Farms Female Sale in 2021. She has lived up to every expectation and will be a stand out for years to come. HOMO
This young herdsire has all the tools in his kit. Along with a great skull and super structure, he is the deepest bull in the pen. 205K started with a moderate 84 lb birth weight and has grown like crazy on his highly productive Ledger momma cow. She was our pick of the Hunter Charolais bred heifers the year we bought her out of the front end of the Sterling Sale. He is a standout in the pen and is sure to command some attention Sale Day. Everyone wants to add pounds to their calf crop without sacrificing calving ease, this guy will do the trick. Selling full possession, 2/3 interest. HOMO POLLED
HEIFER APPROVED
206K is built right in every aspect, just like his sire. Exceptionally correct with big nuts, lots of hair, and super disposition. Turn him in the heifer pen or with cows. He will calve easy and leave you with a set of attractive calves the buyers will love. HOMO POLLED
222K is one of our favourites in the pen. It’s too bad because of COVID, not many people got to see his sire HBC Summit. Probably the deepest ribbed, most correct bull we’ve raised. An absolute beast of a herd bull that sold to Sonderup Charolais in Nebraska for $32,000. His progeny follow him very closely and are consistent in their type. Something a great herdsire will do. 222K we believe could be even better. He puts it all together – big testicles, great character head, perfect feet and legs, and a haircoat that is the envy of any breed. He just gets better every day. 331E is a Braxton daughter that will run with any you want to compare her to. She is long spined, smooth front to back. She has excellent feet and legs with an udder that is flawless. The number of great individuals in her pedigree is impressive and not be taken lightly. The Braxton daughters are proving to be superior producers and it isn’t easy finding a great bull out of a cow that possesses elite genetics. We really believe in this bull. He is worth the drive to see him! Selling full possession, 2/3 interest

This year’s bull sale sees the introduction of some new and exciting bloodlines. LT Patriot is a bull that we were very pumped to add to our list of A.I. sires. He is known as one of the top sires in all of North America. His calves are born easy with vigor and then grow like crazy. Outstanding is a word we would use. The Patriot bull is exclusive in the breed to only a few discerning breeders in Canada. You will only see a few sons offered for sale anywhere and these 4 are some of the best you will find. 212K is our lead off Patriot son because of his overall balance, perfect structure, and high libido. His dam is in our donor program and is the mother of the $32,000 HBC Summit bull that sired some impressive bulls in this sale. The homework is all done on 212K. We believe his predictable genetics will make him a great herd bull! Elite cattle on top and bottom of his pedigree make 212K one of those bulls that is a no miss. Hit a home run – add 212K to your bull battery! Selling full possession, 2/3 interest.
HOMO POLLED
We really like this long bodied super smooth Patriot son. In case you didn’t know, LT Patriot is the sire of LT Nationwide – a bull whose sons were very popular in last year’s sale. If you liked the Nationwide bulls, you will adore the Patriots. They have nice big feet and outstanding fertility. 211K fits the description perfectly. He is long as a train and carries that extra top and muscle definition that all buyers are searching for. His dam 281Z just keeps producing good ones. She is a big volume highly fertile cow that is easy to have around. Mark him down sale day!
4 GENERATIONS POLLED
221K follows the same pattern as the other Patriot bulls with some added hair. He is very correct, has big nuts and is ready to go to work. 221K is long spined, big topped and correct with good feet and legs. 9A has been a money maker from the time she arrived from the Wood River female sale where she was a high seller. She has a perfect udder with a lot of depth. Just a nice cow to have around. These Patriots are like peas in a pod. 3 GENERATIONS POLLED
This big performance Patriot son is impressive. He has the size and composition to do a great job on mature cows. His great haircoat, excellent structure and high libido make him a great candidate to turn in with a bunch of cows knowing he will get the job done. His mother 6133 is a heavy milking cow that is producing at the top of our herd. Her two year old Wizard daughter has an Affinity son in the sale. Now that’s production! 3 GENERATIONS POLLED
LT Affinity is widely regarded as the best calving bull in the industry. His calves are finer boned and rocket fronted. Build for calving ease. These 2 sons are ¾ brothers and you can see the consistency Affinity has in his offspring. If you are a first time buyer of a Charolais bull and you are concerned about birth weight on your cows, grab hold of one or both of these Affinity sons. Let them show you what the Char breed has to offer. Easy calving, lots of vigor, more pounds in the fall and that means more money for you. Get the Charolais Advantage! See you sale day!
HEIFER APPROVED
We used LT Affinity exclusively on the heifer pen knowing he would be the easiest calving Charolais bull around. He did not disappoint. We think there is enough performance in the calves to make them marketable. If you want sleep easy calving with lots of vigor, check out 214K.
4 GENERATIONS POLLED
This guy is definitely the sleeper in the pen. His mother is our most complete SVY Wizard daughter. Big volume, beautiful udder and great feet. This guy will throw calves that outperform himself. A true test of a herd bull.

DOGPATCH ACRES
Welcome to the 19th edition of the Best of the Breeds bull sale. Thank you to our repeat buyers and new customers that support our program. We focus our breeding on the main areas that cattlemen look at when purchasing a new bull; calving ease, growth and performance, hair, soundness and docility. We provide stout, moderate framed bulls that can get out and service your cows. We are pleased with this year’s offering as it exemplifies our breeding program.
We spent a lot on walking bulls in the past few years and are really excited about our offering with a mix of bulls by our herd sires, as well as some industry leading A.I. sires. We will have carefree bulls to run in your heifer pen or performance bulls to put with your cow herd.
Each year we keep back some bulls born too late to make our sale. They are on standby for our customers in case of a bull wreck during summer. The long yearlings we have on offer are these bulls we kept back. Developed on green feed oats until December 2022, then bull developer pellets and hay to provide bulls that will cover more ground and more cows without breaking down.
The Char cross advantage was obvious again this year in the feeder calf market. Take a hold of one of these great breeding bulls and pocket a bit more cash with your calf crop.
If you have questions or would like to come see the bulls and their mothers, please call or stop in.

“I’ve been running Dogpatch bulls exclusively on my redangusx commercial cows. The results speak for themselves, I have no issues during calving and in the fall the calves have all kinds of hair and a big hip and top which is exactly what buyers are looking for.
