What a difference a year makes!
After a bit of head scratching and weighing of our options, the decision was made to bring the bull sale home to the farm. We really appreciate everything that Dryland did to promote our business in the Veteran area over the last six years and it is our hope that we can continue our relationship with the folks “down south”.
We are very happy that the Mawbey family of Bronyx Angus will again be joining us. They are bringing a super group of hairy, easy doing, docile 2 year old Angus bulls that were selected from Canadian genetics, so you know they’ll stand up to our conditions.
We have 2 new herdsire groups that we’re very excited about this year. What we really appreciate about both is that they’re siring females that are every bit as eye appealing as we’d hoped. A lot of you have seen and heard of Game Day, the high selling bull from Legacy Charolais’ 2020 sale and the hair and disposition that he throws is second to none. The Gallagher bull from Wilgenbusch Charolais is hands-down the best footed bull we’ve seen, and he passes that on to his progeny.
We feel like over the last handful of years, the Charolais breed seems to be searching for the next big thing or the flavour of the month. We are constantly working on building solid cow families and feel like the true measure of a great bull is in the cowherd that you build with his daughters. In our opinion, this isn’t something that can be rushed and as a good friend said, “it’s more like a slow burn”.
We have been committed to breeding Charolais cattle for over 40 years now and the sheer number of new breeders tells us that staying the course was the right decision for our operation. Take advantage of our decades of selection for the traits that built the breed and our reputation along with it. Our cattle are functional, solid, good footed and easy to work with - we have already done the homework for you.
Please join us on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 for our sale. With space considerations, we will be going to a video sale in our heated shop and the bulls will be penned for viewing nearby. Do your chores, hop in the car and join us for lunch at 12:30 and then the sale at 2. If you have time afterward, please stick around for a visit and some hospitality. The sale will be broadcast on DLMS for anyone who cannot attend in-person.
Of course, visitors to the farm are always welcome if you’d like a tour prior to the sale. Please reach out to either Andrew or Robbie if you’d like an independent assessment of any of the bulls.
We look forward to welcoming our loyal customers and getting to know new ones. We love what we do and appreciate the opportunity to work with you. Thank you for your faith in our program!

If you aren’t set up to take your bull and would like him delivered closer to breeding season, we’d prefer if you put insurance on before he goes back to the farm. We take every care with the bulls that do go back home, but going to town and then home again resets the pecking order. Larry Toner of Stockmens Insurance will be in attendance on sale day to assist you.
Buyers must take delivery of their bulls by May 1, 2023.
Free delivery of bulls is available to central points and in most cases, right to your farm or ranch.
ONLINE BIDDING: via dlms.ca
We’d like to dedicate this sale to the memory of John’s dad, Harold, who passed away in May 2022 and was a Charolais enthusiast for the last 40 odd years.

Game Day was purchased for $42000 from Legacy Charolais in their 2020 bull sale. We first saw him as a calf at the Alberta Select show in Red Deer and even then, felt that he could bring something special to our breeding program. We were confident that his hair coat, docility and eye appeal would cross well with any type of cow that we used him on.
Although a moderate bull himself, his calves follow the frame size of the dam, while keeping all of the attributes that we originally admired. The added bonus that we’ve found is that all of his progeny have his disposition and having these animals in the herd influences the pen mates very favourably.
The latest EPD run in January has Game Day in the top 1% of the breed in Canada for Yearling Weight. It makes the decision to use these genetics quite easy for anyone who retains ownership of their calves. Semen is available for sale, please talk to John if you would like more information.
The only red-factor 2 year old Game Day son on offer this year. Lots of hair and stretch have made Jackson a favourite among visitors to the bull pen. His 11 year old dam is still in the herd and each year, brings in one of the heaviest calves at weaning.
PLEASE BRING YOUR CATALOGUE WITH YOU ON SALE DAY
Johnny Cash is an absolute stud. Out of a favourite old 4-H cow, he is a contender for the “quietest bull in the pen” award. As a calf on pasture alongside his dam, he had a definite presence to him and he kept it as he matured. This fellow checks all the boxes.

114J carries the Game Day shape with his nice little head, smooth shoulder and a little extra junk in the trunk. He’s an easy doing bull out of a young cow with a very bright future. “Wow”, “One of the best Blackjack sons we’ve seen”, “his feet are perfect” are the most common reactions when we have visitors to the herdbull pen.
We selected Gallagher at Wilgenbusch’s sale in 2020, knowing we needed a bull to bring a little more size to our offering. We have several cow families that have generations of calving ease bred right in, but some felt that the overall size of the bulls we were offering was getting too small. We were fairly confident that Gallagher would fit the bill and this year’s 2 year old pen looks like he did just that!

Hello & Welcome to the 7th Annual Poplar Bluff
Stock Farm & Guests Bull Sale. We are extremely excited for the opportunity to offer up this strong set of coming 2 yr old bulls. For those who don’t know us, our cattle operation consists of roughly 300 commercial & 60 purebred cows. In 2005 we started purchasing top proven females from production & dispersal sales of CRESCENT CREEK ANGUS, DOUBLE AA ANGUS, SASKALTA FARMS, LOOKOUT STOCK FARM, GLEN ISLAY ANGUS and REMINGTON LAND & CATTLE. We have worked hard at building the herd to where it is at today. With myself working off the farm during calving, Dad is left by himself for good stretches. He is a very selective cattleman and we expect a lot from our cows – no babysitting and no excuses or they do not stay. We have a checklist that a cow needs to meet in order to stick around. The dams that are pictured in the sale catalog will give you a good idea of the type of cow we like – cows that are consistent producing at the top end of the whole herd - maximizing return with no or very little help during calving.
The bulls on offer are good honest ranch bulls that have been developed with longevity in mind. We feel these beef bulls are the type of cattle that will satisfy the needs of the cow-calf producer, feedlot & packer, while also siring top end uniform replacement heifers. The bulls are currently on a daily TMR ration that consists of oat silage, & a 14% beef pellet @ 9.5 lbs per day.
If you have any questions or requests, we are more than happy to help. We stand behind our cattle which are raised to work & we look forward to working with you on sale day & in the future. Please don’t hesitate to come see the cattle at the farm prior to the sale.
Sincerely,
Owen & Bryce Mawbey
Bronyx Angus
Note: The weaning weights of the bulls were taken on November 13, 2021
We reserve the right to collect in herd use semen on the bulls sold, at the buyers convenience and our expense.
