Our family continues to operate M.C. Quantock Livestock as a family ranch. We have worked darn hard to earn the trust, confidence, loyalty and respect of the people we deal with... today 76% of our bulls sell to repeat customersmany of them, second generation. Our bull program sets the standard for the industry and while imitation is the greatest form of flattery, remember, we are the originators. We stand behind every bull we sell. We give you the service you deserve and we appreciate your business.
We’ve built a good big cowherd over time producing bulls strictly for commercial cowmen. Unlike a lot of bull producers, we’ve paid for our ranch and cows with our cows. Traditional purebred guys sell dreams... we sell reality. In 30+ years, since MC Quantock was established, our cowherd has produced in excess of 39 million dollars worth of bulls... no “smoke and mirrors,” no “trendy numbers,” no unproven sires, no purebred fluff, just the real deal. We produce durable, high quality bulls that sire those “fancy” high quality calves the order buyers love, and we produce lots of them, but best of all, they are affordable. We’ve sold nearly 15,000 bulls, staged 56 bull sales and our family has been in the bull business for over 100 years. Buying the right bulls is an important part of your success. Our sale is an experience. A bull sells every 50 seconds for nearly 6 hours... hundreds of good, solid uniform bulls in 8 bull lines, quality bulls at everyday prices. If it’s on your “bucket list” this is the year to come. “Videos Online, Free Delivery, Great Bulls” Call Today!

The most successful in the industry and here’s why... SATISFIED CUSTOMERS!
“I’m not a big cow operation, have bought all my bulls Sight Unseen and were put on Bull Development and grow like weeds. Only 1 problem... I drive my wife crazy replaying the sale DVD!” - K. Kosheluk, SK
“There were five bulls that came off the trailer. I picked the one I liked best in my head, not knowing which one was mine. Once they sorted them the one I picked ended up in my trailer. Thanks a lot. You guys got me the bull I would have picked myself and you did it sight unseen.”
- C. Tonneson, AB
While we will stage a normal live auction, we certainly encourage our customers to come view the bulls anytime before the sale, remember sight unseen is a foolproof option.
• I will personally visit with each and every customer, discuss your requirements and talk through bull choices.
• I know these bulls. My men and I have calved them, watched them grow, fed them and handled them. You deal with us not a third party.
• We guarantee your complete satisfaction. While we seldom deliver an unsatisfactory bull, it is entirely your choice to accept him on arrival...SIMPLY PUT - YOU MUST LIKE HIM WHEN DELIVERED OR WE TAKE HIM HOME, NO PROBLEM.
• When you have viewed the bull book, the video and the photos, you and I will make a short list of your choices and discuss your budget.
• We sell our bulls best bulls to lesser bulls within each breed. We will always try to buy the best bull available within your budget.
• We will absolutely never bid on or buy a bull that you and I have not carefully pre-selected as being suitable.
• We will absolutely never exceed your budget. In fact, most times we deliver under budget.
- K. Victoor, AB
“Mac & the video reassured me that I was making a good decision buying sight unseen. When I finally received my bull I never knew that kind of quality was around for a reasonable cost. Perhaps the best bull I’ve bought. Look forward to doing business again.”
“We bought two Hereford bulls sight unseen. The whole process of getting such good quality bulls was absolutely painless, right from the first conversation to delivery. The bulls were everything we expected and more. Easy fleshing they maintained their weight through breeding.”
- G.&S. Clark, AB
“The Sight Unseen Purchase Program you offer, coupled with a rock solid reputation, unquestioned convenience and a large battery of quality, affordable sale bulls has again made bull buying from your ranch a pleasure.”
- J. Comrie, MB
In the 20+ years we have been doing business together (sight unseen and at the auction) there has never been a bad bull from you. In Northwest Cattle’s eyes, there is only one bull breeder in Canada to buy from!
- Neil Campbell & Family, AB
• Most important...WE DON’T WANT YOU TO PAY FOR THE BULL UNTIL YOU HAVE SEEN HIM YOURSELF in the flesh at your ranch. Then and only then do you make settlement.
• You can call anytime at your convenience to talk bulls.
Thanks, Mac

M.C. Quantock Bull Sale “Canada’s Bulls”
That’s where we have lived for 50 years, producing 15,000 bulls for Canada’s cattle folks. Hard working ranch bulls, no purebred “fluff”, and a big cow herd that has paid for the ranch. We’re an “Old School” outfit more popular now than ever…!
Our whole bull program has “forever” been tied to the commercial cow business. It’s always been “what we do”. We are in the seedstock business. Purebred “showring” guys have their own “little world”, our world is the real big world of folks who make their living from their cows.
Our theme “Here in the Real World” is from an Alan Jackson song… the second line is “where real teardrops fall” but let me tell you, there are not many teardrops falling in the cow business this year.
We just completed our “Super Sisters” and “Special Opportunity” cow sale. Interest was ‘over the top’ with 275 head averaging $4940. In past years despite decent calf prices, no one seemed to want to calve a cow. What a difference a few years makes. The optimism is exciting! You’ve got to love cattle people and it’s nice to see clear thinking cowmen and women who stayed the course, enjoying some profitable years.
I have always been blessed to work with cattle folks. Ranchers and farmers are solid, salt of the earth people, underappreciated in general, old school in their thinking and harder working than most. They still have their common sense, their resilience, and their determination. They have good “BS” detectors and “no time” for hollow politicians. People in general once they get farther from their farm roots, (and most now are three generations) tend to lose their common sense and good judgement.
We are “Old School” and proud of it. Our “Real World” approach is more popular now than ever. I have often said there is an art to breeding cattle, as well as the science. It takes the instinct and talent of “cattle people” to make the good ones. I just believe if you keep it simple, cull the open ones, the problem ones, and the ugly ones, you’ll be making quite a lot of progress, after all, the auction mart does not ask you to send in a list of EPDs. They buy your calves because “they’re big, stout, hairy calves” that look the part and because of your good reputation.
Obviously, a well-designed cow operation is very profitable at today’s price levels. Survive and prosper by remembering that a cow is a “low tech machine.” She hates diesel fuel, technology and expensive feed; she harvests grass, stores solar energy and turns it all into high quality protein.
Let’s all ask the “climate change fanatics” and that includes our federal government if they can turn grass and forage into high quality protein, of course they can’t! ONLY the magic of a cow can do that and 70% of the world can only grow what a cow can eat.
This year it is December 16 as I sit down to write this and reflect on our year. In our country, and the west in particular, “better” would be a word we would use! My dad always told me “To grow grass and hay, you need 3 inches of rain in May” and you know, he was right (as I get older I realize he was right about a lot of things, funny how that works!)
We got the grass off to a great start, and got a big flush of growth in June, which we depend on. Then things changed, very little rain in the heat of summer left our silage yields about 70% of normal on the corn and even worse on our cereal silage. We’ll grind more straw, buy some hay and get through. As I have said before, ranching presents some problems every year… just not the same ones.
We have pulled back our numbers a little as we developed more pasture closer to home, but we still bred just in excess of 1100 head. I tell people we are “road ranchers,” nearly every cow gets on a truck going somewhere to summer grass. “Show our old cows a chute and they’ll load themselves… they know they’re goin’ to a better spot.” Our pastures are spread out over 150 miles end to end, with us in the middle.
Our cow herd is big; every sort, every job, a big one, but it has its rewards. You can make real selection progress with “whole herd” selection and culling, and our bulls show it. The uniformity unequaled: the quality, impressive. We don’t just have a few “pretty show cows,” we’ve got pastures full of “beautiful” ones. Beautiful because they’re functional, they work for a living, and they are paying for the ranch.
This fall has brought our industry record prices for our calves. Our costs are much higher, of course, but generally as cattlemen have been pressured to be efficient as hell over the past number of years, they are feeling pretty damn good right now.
On the personal side, Pat and I, our family and crew have remained healthy through it all. We are thankful every day for the business we are in, for where we live, and for the people we have around us.
Our son Cody ranches with us full time and has responsibility for the Charolais program. Credits to him how well he knows this herd and the progress that has been made in half a dozen years. The cattle get better and better and have the “MC Quantock” stamp. When there is a cow we can’t identify, or a tough question about the “whites”, just ask Cody, seldom is he wrong.
Our daughter Robin and son-in-law, Mark , and two busy grandkids, Hannah and Grayson, live in Calgary! Mark is the Senior Director of Property Tax Services for Colliers Canada. Robin handles all our cattle records, registrations, etc. She also handles our internet work and is helping more with the advertising and office side of our ranch management. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate her as she takes a load off both Pat and I. Both Robin and Mark “work their butts off” sale week, we simply could not do it without them. Calm, competent and capable, we can’t thank them enough.
We are pleased to have our son, Lee, back working on the ranch this fall and winter. Lee has spent a number of years away going to college in the U.S. and living and working there, as well as doing a lot of travelling. He has gained a wealth of experience. We are appreciating his help and input every day.
As most of you know, I love my traditional country music, there is always a message in it somewhere for everyone. Although I have quoted it before… Alan Jackson’s song “The Older I Get” is meaningful to me. The lyrics, “and if they found a fountain of youth, I wouldn’t drink a drop and that’s the truth. Funny how it feels I’m just getting to my best years yet...” The older I get the more thankful I feel for the life I’ve had and all the life I’m living still! That pretty much sums up how I feel. Lucky for the experiences and opportunities I’ve had; thankful for the people I’ve had close, and excited for the future. Every time I hear those lyrics it “hits home to me” how true they are!
Pat and I have been a pretty good team over the years, I’m the “big picture guy,” she’s the “detail lady”. I cannot thank her enough for her love, contribution, and support. We still enjoy the business we have built, where we live, and the people we have close to us.
I like to say the word “thanks” quite a lot. I think gratitude is great for the soul!
Pat and I are humbled by the dedication and contribution of our ranch staff. Their competence, effort and interest in the success of the ranch makes everything possible.
Rick Knorr takes an increasing responsibility as the ranch grows. He and his wife, Dom, have a beautiful daughter, Sadie, to keep them busy, and an acreage of their own close to the ranch.
Ross Maxwell started with us in 2009, 15 years ago, he just handles everything. He and his wife Lacey have two sweet daughters, Eveline and Elizabeth, and have a small herd of their own on their place at Tuliby Lake.
Jon Kennedy joined us in 2021. He is a “farm boy” from Rosalind who spent a long spell in the oil patch and is enjoying getting back to his roots. Jon is capable cow-wise and is a good mechanic. It seems there is not much he can’t handle, organize, and accomplish. Jon is “one YouTube video” away from tackling anything. His wife Nadine, and two daughters, Trinity and Eva, live right in the ranch yard, he likes the short commute.
Ally Doull joined us 18 months ago. Ally is interested, keen on ranching, capable and a pleasure to have on our team. She “grass calved” a “big chunk” of our cows by herself. We appreciate her attention to detail.
Our thanks also to Austin Conrad and Jake Pilkey, who help us during our busy spring, fall, and sale seasons.
I want to acknowledge the contribution Jason Whiting makes to our sale effort. Jason has built and edited our videos and handles all the “techy” stuff sale week. He is a pleasure to work with and is pretty tolerant of an old cowboy.
A special thanks to Deb Lundquist, who helps in the office and is Pat’s “right arm” at sale time.
Our thanks to our friends who have given their help, advice, and assistance all year and to all the fine people who help Pat and I during the sale week: our thanks in advance. We really do appreciate everything you do to help us, and nothing would be possible without you. Our sale is an “experience” and we’d love to have you come. We’ll be ready with lots of fellowship, good food and lots of great cattle.
See you on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Mac & Pat Creech

Mac Creech, D.V.M.
We want to say thank you to the best customers in the world. We would be nowhere without your support. We have been at this for 50 plus years and have worked with hundreds of folks we now count as not just customers, but friends.
You have supported our unique program through droughts and blizzards, the BSE insanity, covid, good times and bad. You appreciated our ground breaking multi-breed and hybrid approach when most of the purebred industry did not… now it’s all gone mainstream. Your continued support and the opportunity to work with clear thinking, “salt of the earth” cattle people is what makes every day a good day on our ranch. Thank you.
• Our customers “just love” our fresh, virgin two year old bulls, they’re just not available many places in any numbers... we sell 400!
• Our customers “just love” that our bulls come from a big working cow herd raised under every day conditions... not purebred pampered.
• Our customers “just love” that we deliver bulls for free everywhere there are cows in Western Canada.
• Our customers “just know” that if there is trouble, we will look after them.
• Our customers have realized how easy it is to buy our bulls.
• 40% of our Western Canadian bound bulls sell Sight Unseen. Call me anytime to discuss this option. We’ll provide references close to you. It’s always convenient and simple.

“We are new to the business. Mac helped us figure out what we wanted and we got a good bull for the price we wanted. A while later we realized he was bigger than we wanted for heifers. We called Mac and he arranged a trade for a lower birth wt bull. Fantastic customer service and a pleasure to deal with, a family that sincerely wants to get the right bull to the right farm” - T&T Hoy, BC
Mac Creech, DVM
“Fairly, honestly and accurately presented on every bull” about describes my philosophy on the use of performance data. Over the many years I have tried to provide all and any objective information that I felt would help my customers select, analyze and fit our bulls into their various programs. Now, with 8 bull lines working within our own program, we have all the necessary genetics within the M.C. Quantock Livestock gene pool to completely service the crossbreeding needs of the industry. We can build and develop programs through one or a combination of our bull lines to maximize net profit on your ranches, recognizing that each farm or ranch is a unique situation with different advantages, disadvantages and needs.
The data presented varies by bull line and the state of our on-ranch records with each line. I still subscribe to some extent to the old saying, “If you give a good cowboy a bull’s birthday and his weight, he’ll tell you if the bull’s got performance.” Now with the technology available, we have developed new ways of analyzing cattle. However, simple rates of gain and adjusted weights are still very meaningful and easy to interpret by our customers. Birth weights are always taken within 24 hours of birth and presented as actual unadjusted weights. Current Breed Association EPD’s lack accuracy on young bulls and are no help in selection for many cattlemen. We use current EPDs to select our herd bulls. We look for high accuracy data, Genomics is helping. That’s our job as seedstock breeders. As a commercial cattleman, you need not worry about EPDs – just depend on us. The auction mart doesn’t ask you to send in a list of your EPDs. He buys your calves because they’re “big, stout hairy calves” that look the part and because of your good reputation. Keep it simple, cull the open ones, the problem ones and the ugly ones and you will make as much progress as is possible. Our bulls will help you get it done. Tom Lasater who developed “Beefmaster” cattle once said that “Breeding cattle is a relatively simple task – the challenge is to keep it simple”, and that statement has a lot of truth. Don’t try to select for so many things that you go nowhere. Work slowly at improving the “weak links” in the cattle you have at home, through careful selection of sires.
1) Selecting your Bull(s):
Because the bulls in this sale are from the top of our production, most are above average for all traits in our herds and in most cases the line. We work with large numbers and select only the best. Please don’t make the mistake of trying to find the perfect bull, in our experience he does not exist. Select bulls to improve on the weak traits in your cows by purchasing bulls that are strong in those traits.
2) Calving Traits: You will find very few bulls who are assisted at birth in our low maintenance grass calving program. We have included here the age of the bull’s mother, the calving ease code U – unassisted, E – easy pull, H – hard pull, MP –malpresentation, S – surgical. Also listed is the birth weight. The issue of birth weights is a controversial one. There is a high genetic correlation between frame, weight per day of age, daily gain, mature weight and birth weight. As you increase any one by selection they all increase. Our objective is to find those rare bulls, who have “TRAIT BALANCE.” Those that balance the antagonistic traits of birth weight with post weaning size and gain. We are now uncovering bulls in our program in all breeds capable of doing this and utilizing them extensively as herdsires. It is perfectly reasonable to expect a mature cow to calve a calf at 7% of her body weight so a 1500 lb cow can easily calve 105-107 lb calves, a 1300 lb cow, 90-95 lb calves and so on. Don’t overcompensate by going too small on birth weight, it will mean less weaning weight. The birth weights are actual weights taken within 24 hours of birth and not adjusted for age of dam. Level of nutrition and management difference may decrease birth weight by as much as 10%. The reality is they are probably accurate within 5% depending on whether the calf has nursed or not and whether it is slightly overdue or premature. Use them as a guide, but allow some flexability.
3) Maternal Traits:
The performance of his mother with regard to fertility measured by her calving interval (a good beef cow should calve every 365 days under adequate management) – also the weaning data, a measure of the milking ability of the mother and the genetics of the calf. For improvements in weaning performance, select high ratios and high adjusted 205 day weights as well as weaning weight per day of age (W.D.A.).
Our Hereford, H-2, Red Angus, Black Angus, Red and Black Angus x Simmental and Red Angus x Gelbvieh hybrid lines all are focused on improving maternal and mainstream performance in your cow herds. Our Charolais, while used predominantly in a terminal role, nevertheless are still selected from good milk genetics within that breed to assure that they are not “one track” cattle.
To improve milk and maternal ability select a bull with a high maternal rating. If you sell your calves at weaning then you’ll need a bull with high weaning data and weaning WDA, as well as good growth traits. To maintain a good reproductive and breed back percentage weaning, data should be closer to average levels. Too much milk can adversely affect reproduction if nutrition gets restricted.
4) Growth Traits:
A measure of the animal’s ability to grow:
On All bulls of all breeds: We present adjusted weaning weights and on yearling bulls W.D.A as well. This measures both the bull’s own genetic ability to grow and his mother’s milking ability. (It can, however, be greatly influenced by management and environment). We present a blended gain which indicates his feedlot performance and grass gain over summer.
The 18 month weights are just a simple adjustment for age based on their weight at processing time. This is variable, however, and is an estimate only. (We consider it to be plus or minus 75 lbs.) It is useful however because it closely relates to slaughter age and weight for most cattle.
5) Fertility:
We have measured all the Two-Year-Olds’ scrotal circumferences and then presented the data as actual circumferences. As testicle size is very highly inherited and reflects the bull’s breeding capacity, the measurements will allow you to compare the bulls for this characteristic. It should be emphasized that all the bulls in this sale are much more than adequate in this department with many being excellent. Testicle size has a high correlation with early puberty in half sisters and daughters and hence is a trait very important to your profit. Our management and culling practices put pressure on our herd to be very fertile even though fertility is a trait of low heritability. All our Two-Year-Old bulls are semen tested.
6) Carcass Traits:
While carcass is not our primary focus on our maternal mainstream lines, we do want as much muscularity as possible as long as it does not adversely affect reproductive capacity.
7) Frame Size:
We have discontinued providing frame size information. The only commodity any of us get paid for is weight. Most cattle in the industry at the present time have enough frame, some in fact have too much. My Dad always said; “It’s not how big they get, but how quick they get big that counts.”
Our cows can’t read... they don’t know they’re purebreds but in fact they are... ALL OF THEM. All our purebred lines are registered purebreds, the bulls are registered and the papers provided. We use many of our cows to produce Hybrid bulls but we still register more purebred cattle than most anyone in the country. As we said our cows can’t read, no-one told them a purebred cow should be treated different than a commercial cow AND THEY’RE NOT!... NO PUREBRED PAMPERING HERE!
Perhaps the best breeding decision a commercial producer will ever make is the choice of a seedstock provider. Find someone whose breeding objectives mirror your own, who operates in an environment similar to yours, who can help you benefit from heterosis and can understand your objectives and help you select the right bull.
Burke Teichert
Ranch Consultant, Retired General Manager, Deseret Land & Cattle
We have established a widely accepted program to develop all 2 year old bulls here at the ranch to better serve our customers. We will take the bulls home after the sale and feed them until early April on a silage based ration to gain about 2 1/2 lbs. per day. Delivery will be throughout the month of April, area by area. The price for this service is $150, payable at sale time. It’s a real value as it includes board, a semen test and central point delivery.
We sell all summer born two year old bulls. We believe they are the ideal age and we develop them to maintain soundness and longevity.
• Calves are born mid-May until the first week of July - grass calved - checked, tagged and weighed only once per day. No night checks, cameras or calving barn. (with this system problems eliminate themselves.)
• We wean in November, bull calves are backgrounded in big groups till spring on a silage based growing ration.
• By spring our bulls are well grown out but not fleshy... just perfect to take advantage of our grass.
• Bulls are sorted by breed and size into groups of 30-50 bulls.
• Bulls go to our management intensive grazing paddocks from late May or June until late October.
• Water is provided by solar systems or surface piped fresh water.
• We move bulls to fresh grass every two days all summer long.
• The pasture is good quality, everyday, it ensures they grow well all summer. A real bonus here is that they are used to a man on foot and constant checking.
• As summer progresses we supplement the bulls with a low energy, high protein pellet made specifically to our specs and made of pea and lentil hulls. No starch, high fibre with added minerals and vitamins. (about the nutrient content of good alfalfa hay)
• In late fall the bulls are brought to our bull lots and placed on our silage based bull development TMR (total mixed ration.) This is ideal because every mouthful the bull takes he has the right proportion of all nutrients, no bingeing on just grain. No barley or coarse grain is fed, just our bull development pellets.
• Our rations and protocols have been developed over years of experience to bring you the best, most durable bulls possible.
• We maintain a large cowherd managed under commercial conditions to minimize cost and time, every cow is a registered purebred.
• Cows calve in May and June on stock piled grass - we do not feed our cows during calving...they rustle!
• They are grass calved in groups of 200 or so checked by one man once per day to tag and weigh.
• No night checks, cameras or calving barns.
• Calving is what our cows do...not what we do! (with this system problems eliminate themselves)
• Cows are sorted (paired out on horseback to have a good look at feet, udders, milk etc.) in late June to our breeding pastures.
• Our pastures are spread over 150 miles so nearly every one goes on a liner going somewhere.
• We use all natural service...Bulls go out August 1 for 60 days.
• Calves are weaned starting mid October to mid November group by group.
• Cows are left on grazing for as long as possible into fall.
• Cows move home and are wintered on standing corn in groups of 200 per quarter controlled with electric fence. Our objective is 200 cow/days per acre, they lick snow for water.
• Our cows go from the calving pastures to summer grazing and breeding, make a short stop at the home ranch for weaning, then on to the standing corn. Corn to grass, grass to corn and on it goes, with no supplement feeding and no hauling feed or manure. I just believe that as soon as you put machinery or diesel fuel between a cow’s mouth and what she eats, it does nothing but cost money.
All the good old Angus traits and “no darn trouble.” Our Red Angus are developed from mainstream maternal lineage. We’ve stared birthweight in the eye and backed it down.
Our Red Angus herd was established in the 60’s, we are one of Canada’s Pioneer Breeders. Our bulls have introduced the red influence to countless commercial operations across the country. Our disciplined program has for 49 years never compromised birthweight, thriftiness or vigor. We’ve bred moderate frames, good cow traits, easy keeping and light to moderate birthweights into each and every bull we sell. Ours are reliable, predictable bulls; ideal for cross breeding with volumes of bulls for heifers and bigger stouter bulls for cows. The offering features as many older bulls as anywhere in the country.
60 Summer Two Year Old Bulls.
Use our red bulls to easily calve heifers and still get a “darn good calf” to sell or keep. Raise your own Red Angus cross replacements with the good maternal quality our bulls offer. If your cows have too much exotic, use our Angus to moderate frame, make ‘em easier to feed and increase carcass quality and feeder demand. Share and benefit from our experience and 48 years of selection, volumes of records, predictable birth weights and performance uniformity. Ranch raised Red Angus that’ll do the job, never complain, and give you no grief. 60 plus solid bulls, buy one or you can select uniform half brothers in volume. Great red bull value from Canada’s Bull Supplier.

We bought 2456D back from Wirstuk Farm & Ranch to continue some of the Argentinian Cachafaz influence here. We always admired the massive girth and thickness of the Cachafaz cattle and “Red Trent,” as we call him, delivers it “in spades”. Every son of this old 2456 has been in the top 2 or 3 bulls. Red Trent was a $12,000 sale topper in our 50th anniversary sale in 2018.

He is an outcross for our program and for the red angus breed carrying the influence of the historic S A V Resource. Lincoln is a breeding machine, working early at Six Mile, then here in late summer - we love these bulls and you will too, amazing girth, body depth, and ease of fleshing.

The data we have presented is as comprehensive as possible and will enable you to select bulls to ideally suit your needs. We have listed each bull’s Age of Dam (A.O.D.), Calving Ease (C.E.), Birth Weight (B.W.), Adjusted Weaning Weight (A.W.W.) (composite of grass gain and test gain). Projected 18 Month Weight and Scrotal Size. The bulls have been fed a silage, pellet ration designed to provide a modest gain. The bulls were weighed in late November and a gain calculated from grass turnout till late November. We have provided photos to give you an impression of the excellent quality and performance on offer. They are backed by our unconditional guarantee. All are guaranteed breeders. Your attention is directed to the bull development option which you may wish to consider. All bulls are semen tested.
We will provide pedigrees on all our Red Angus purebred bulls.
Our bulls now spend longer on grass so our test gain in the lot was too short to be significant. The one figure encompasses both periods. To help give more accurate gain data, we have presented “ONE GAIN FIGURE” only. It takes into account Summer Gain on Grass plus the first month in our bull test, from grass turnout to late November.
Summer Reds are the answer...
They’re bigger, stouter and tougher than the yearlings you’ll buy other places. They’ll breed more cows (even the big ones), hold their condition, take less management and be less worry and trouble. They’ve been gently and slowly developed on grass, so they last a long time in your herd. They’ll breed circles around a yearling and they’re not the “leftovers” like most 2 year olds you’ll find. They really are the answer. “Perfect Age” bulls - 22-26 months old at breeding time. WHY BUY A YEARLING WHEN YOU CAN HAVE THESE AT NO MORE MONEY?
“Customer service has been awesome. Past bull purchases produced good quality calves and have enhanced my herd”.
-W. Magneson, AB
The consistency of our cow herd is a result of using MC Quantock bulls over the last ten to fifteen years.
R. Quist, AB
This age group of bulls are the best there is from a function stand point. These are grass-calved bulls from a “swath grazing,” “corn stalk chewing,” low input cowherd which never gets close to a corral. These bulls are 2-3 months younger than most two year olds. The bulls are weaned in late Nov.-Dec. backgrounded then put on grass the second summer. A little extra age always helps. We now have our whole cow herd calving in May/June. It allows us to “low input, low maintenance, grass calve with minimal attention.” We ride these cows once per day at calving to weigh and tag. We check the heifers twice per day but never after 5 pm! Calving is what our cows do, not what we do. These bulls are from cattle that know how to be successful on their own. They’re low maintenance and trouble free, but still industry leading in terms of conformation, performance, pay weights and power. They’ll compete with the best. Many years we calve these cows 75 miles from Ranch Headquarters. No calving barns or cameras neccessary. The genetics here are uniquely our own. We have worked away for years to build these cattle starting in the late 60’s. At that time I would not have believed that we could create cattle with this much payweight and power, with such minimal birth weight and convenience.

Although we sell 400 bulls in one afternoon, we sell only one bull in the ring at a time. I have never been comfortable being forced to bid when two bulls are sold “choice.” We just don’t think it’s fair to our customers. So while we sell more bulls than anyone in the country, we do it “one at a time.”
We maintain a practical, effective herd health and vaccination program for our own and our customers protection.
Calves receive a vaccination for blackleg at two months of age (spring turnout). They receive a second blackleg plus vaccinations for hemophilus and pasteurella at weaning time (about 5 months of age). Prior to puberty, before reaching a year, they are vaccinated for IBR, PI3, BVD, BRSV with a live virus vaccine and they receive the last booster for blackleg (this should provide life long immunity).
The cowherd receives annual prebreeding vaccinations with a live virus vaccine, generally Bovishield Gold for BVD, IBR, PI3 and BRSV. All cattle are treated with an Ivomec product annually, the sale bulls generally twice prior to sale.
We do not vaccinate for foot rot because we have not found it to be effective enough, but should you require it we can do it before delivery. Insurance now requires 2 doses of foot rot vaccines to provide coverage for chronic foot rot. We recommend vaccinating your new bulls with the products you use at your first opportunity.
There are some misconceptions or misunderstandings with regards to polled cattle. I will try to simplify and clarify this with a few simple points.
1. The polled gene is dominant to the horned gene.
2. Homozygous polled means all offspring will be polled regardless of breeding.
3. Double polled means both parents are polled; this increases the likelihood of the offspring being homozygous.
4. Scurs are the result of an independent gene unrelated to either the horn gene or polled gene. For the most part scurs are loosely attached to the head.
5. Scurs is sex linked being dominant in bulls and recessive in heifers. That’s why if you think about it we see a lot of scurred bulls but very few scurred females. It is also the reason why scurs do not present a problem in your cowherds. Scurs are not a big concern as they seldom show up at weaning time and don’t affect your calf sales.
6. A horned animal may carry the gene for scurs but it is masked by the horned gene, making the scurred gene hard to eliminate from a population.
We’ve harnessed the best of both breeds. Incredibly beefy, thick bulls, they pack awesome payweight on disciplined moderate frames. They have all the convenience of Red Angus; moderate consistent birthweights (85-95 lbs. almost without exception), “easy fleshing” (they’ll hold their condition in the tough going) and on feed they’re “quick fleshers” with bold hybrid performance (4-5 lb. gains are common place). The Simmental blood gives them that essential “touch of continental muscle” you need today, as well as adding milk and growth to the blend.
Our “Super Baldie Bulls” are an industry success story, over nearly 30 years. They add milk and muscle and are “right sized” to give you no calving problems or management nightmares.
Best of all, they’ll give you Red Baldie females for replacements you’ll want and need to keep. Too much exotic — they’ll beef ’em up.
You can find a few Red Angus X Simmental bulls other places... but what you cannot find is the volume, uniformity, quality, and selection potential available from M.C. Quantock. You can spend a lifetime infusing that blend of Red Angus Simmental or you can do it “one shot” using our Super Baldies. You’ll get beautiful “Angus Type” calves with “muscle and snap.” Your steers will top the market. Your heifers will be the envy of your neighbours.
...the oldest and most successful hybrid program in the industry... Unrivaled in numbers sold and customer satisfaction.
Here is more production from our May-June calving red cow herd. Our customers “love-em”. Big bodied, soggy, deep, hairy, powerful bulls. Weaned late, backgrounded then summered on grass. It doesn’t get any better. These bulls are an industry success story. They make believers out of skeptics and real cattlemen real money everyday. For years these bulls have highlighted our sale. Bull after bull, incredibly uniform, they sell “all day” to our cowmen customers because for over 25 years, they have just worked. They do exactly what we say and sell year after year to repeat customers. Sired by the best Fleckvieh Simmental bulls money can buy. Grass calved with minimal attention from our own purebred red angus cows. Powerful genetics on both sides of the pedigree. We move our seedstock red cows back and forth between our purebred and hybrid programs. We’re using some of our best cows year after year in this program and it shows.

“you’ll
love
a
little
Gelbvieh on the cow side”
- The MAC brand left rib -
We’ve been branding Guppies for 25 years...
Our
“Guppie” bulls are all summer two year olds!
“Super Guppie” bulls are a great crossbreeding option. A blended composite of Gelbvieh and Red Angus. Super Guppies have a little more “exotic muscle” than our Super Baldies but are still built from all maternal cattle. Gelbvieh have the carcass, the early sexual maturity and the growth. The Red Angus blood provides the hair, thriftiness and fleshing ability, while moderating birth weight and makes them “smooth Polled.”
Use our Gelbvieh x Red Angus bulls as the third option in any crossing program and maximize your hybrid vigor. They’re cowmen’s Gelbvieh that will work the big range country and fit your management.
Our customers love a little Gelbvieh on the cow side. Our Super Guppie bulls have really found their stride in the past few years as our customers calve their daughters and recognize how well these bulls fit their crossing programs. Gelbvieh hybrids with hair, moderation and uniformity.
We think he’s the best GV bull walking and have never found one to replace him!
Our Herdbull - McCoy Leadoff
They’ve gone “mainstream,” the industry now calls them “Balancers” but we’ve been making Super Guppies for 25 years!!

Established in 1951, our Hereford herd benefits from 60 years of experience, volumes of performance records (since the 60’s), the school of “hard knocks” and the instincts of a cow man. Our Hereford bulls are “just right” to deliver what you need and expect. Broad topped, deepsided bulls packed full of natural thickness on moderate frame sizes. We offer balance and goodness in all the money making traits. Our bulls deliver moderate, predictable consistent birthweights and have been selected over a very long time for large testicles and early maturity. Trouble free... “you bet,” our Herefords have been selected for years for good udders you never have to touch, because you don’t have the time and you don’t need the hassle.
Use our Hereford bulls to add the good Hereford traits your dad took for granted. Deep, thick hair coats, easy keepers that’ll get by without the barley bin and dispositions that make cows a pleasure to handle - not an ordeal.
Use Herefords to add British blood to those exotic cows and be ahead of the game as the packing industry demands the British/Continental blend. Our bulls are durable, long living and tough; managed like your commercial cattle, then grown out on grass.
You won’t find any “big fat ton bulls” here, but what you will find are bulls that have never seen “hot feed” and pampering. Bulls that will last and last and be bigger not smaller at 4 years than the day you bought him.
“Durable Deep-Bodied Broad-Topped Wide Bodied Bulls”
All our Herefords sell as Summer Two Year Old bulls in their working clothes.Reasonablely priced bulls, available individually or as uniform groups of half brothers.
Rediscover what your dad knew! Herefords work and are a pleasure to own.
The Hereford breed does not get the credit it so richly deserves for its contribution to Canada’s crossbreeding mix. Half of almost everything is Hereford. Whether it be Char X, Simmental X, Limo X, Black or Red Baldies, an important half is the Hereford half.
~ All Hereford bulls purebred and papers provided ~ ~ All our bulls are now dehorned ~
“Much of our Hereford herd is now used to produce our H2’s”
“To add British blood use Herefords”

Most Herefords are sold as big fat two year olds. They’ve spent way too long at the feed bunk, 500-550 days of hard feed in most cases. (Incredible when we only feed steers for 100-150 days to slaughter.) If you’re tired of two year olds that are too big and too fat or yearlings that are barely big enough, our summer bulls are the answer. Gently and slowly developed on pasture, easy keeping, they’ll hold their condition for life. Our summer bulls will be 22-26 months old at breeding, just the perfect age. They’re mature and will do everything an older Two-Year-Old can and a darn sight more than a yearling will and best of all they’ll last and last. They’re the answer to the “Hereford Dilemma.”
Some of our best Herefords. Our Herefords are all May-June “Summer Twos.” They are thick, low set bulls. These bulls are fleshy, quick gainers, they’re low set like all Herefords should be. These will really work in your crossing or straight bred programs and as a PLUS will be full two year olds going to your cows next summer.
THESE BULLS REALLY ARE DIFFERENT FROM THE COMPETITION. They are “soggy,” smaller in frame (just right in fact) and will not get too tall like many Herefords today. These will not sire 1600 lb. giant Hereford cows. They’re built to “cross” in fact, Herefords are the new crossing machines unrelated to most cow herds. Our numbers are not large due to the fact that we use many of our hereford cows in our H2 production program. Not a lot of bulls but some very good ones.

While insurance seems expensive, its just good business. Bulls are now a significant investment. You can insure your bull for whatever value you want. Perhaps you only want to cover an $8,000 bull for $5,000, then it’s like a big deductible if you lose him - at least you get something. The day you have a big old $8,000 bull looking over the fence with a broken penis, insurance will seem like it was a good value. At M.C. Quantock, we insure all the bulls we buy for 1 year. It certainly has paid off for us.
“Had trouble with one bull, Mac made everyone happy and I bought 2 more bulls with confidence that Mac would look after any unforseen problems.”
– A. Chernoff, SK
For 25 years, customers have told us “the best Simmentals I ever used were the first part-bloods.”
Here is our Hereford/Fleckvieh 2-breed composite line. Real beefmakers, loaded maternally but bred to simplify and sustain the Hereford/Semi influence in our customers’ herds.
Produced on the home ranch using mid-aged proven Hereford cows and beefy, low set, pigmented Fleckvieh sires; these bulls really offer something unique. Enough age to breed a lot of cows, solid maternal genetics and bottom line performance. We call them “H-2’s” - They’re hummers. These potent composite bulls are being used on Hereford x Simmental cows, as well as black and black and red baldie cows with great success. Anyway you fit them in your program, they’ll make money.
These bulls just work so well, they make repeat customers out of everyone who buys one.
These bulls really work...
...past year’s customers are coming back for more.
“Our Hereford and H-2 udders are as good as Angus.”
“ OUR H-2’S ARE THE BEST WAY TO ADD THE WHITE FACE TO BLACKS... THEY ARE ALL DILUTER FREE, SO NO GREY CALVES”
These bulls come from our home ranch May-June calving Purebred Hereford and H2 production cows. The cows are run a “little rough”... swath grazing, corn stalk chewing, low input, never close to a corral. These bulls are weaned in November-December, background fed, then back to grass. The performance of this pen of bulls is solid. As a group they are as good as it gets. We are in the process of adding new “semi” sires each year. This offering is convincing. Think about how they might work for you. If you were considering Herefords, pay attention to these bulls. They can do everything a Hereford will and more. More muscle, more weight, more maternal, more pigment. We are adding a few more polled bulls every year.
Ideal for black base cows. All sired by non-diluter Simmental sires (no smokies or rat-tails).

“Experience was good, Mac was good to talk to and figure out a bull through the sight unseen program”
– M. Roeland, AB
& H2-4087
- Papers provided on all purebred bulls -
All the good old-time Angus traits - volume, beefiness, quick fleshing, dependable and durable. Add the Black option to your program with no surprises with our traditional solid real Black Angus. Broad, deep, and beefy two year olds. Black heifer bulls. Black cow bulls. They’re black bulls like black bulls should be and they’re as good as you’ll find. We’ve had a “love affair” with Black cows since the 60’s when we used Blacks to establish our highly successful Red herd.
Ours are easy fleshing Black genetics, yet they still have frame and length. Just like our Red Angus, our Blacks are light at birth, then really grow when it counts. Angus convenience, the black color and no darn trouble. We’re your best Black bull opportunity. All older bulls, bigger, stouter and tougher than yearlings. Why go anywhere else?
We began a search for the right opportunity to enter the black business 25 years ago. I have had a “love affair” with black cows since the late 60’s when we used blacks to establish our highly successful red herd.
We based our program on canadian genetics from the Angus Acres herd. We have taken the Angus Acres base cows and moved forward as we build our own distinctive blacks. Like all our other projects, these black cattle are built for our commercial customers. We methodically use high maternal bulls of the type we like (easy keeping, deep bodied, high milk moderated blacks) to create volumes of half sisters which are now producing our best cattle. Using the same selection priorities as our Red Angus and driven by the advice of our commercial customers, we are now producing uniform, high quality, black bulls in volume. As a seedstock breeder, it is rewarding to now see our 25 years of work result in bulls like this offering. The commercial industry will appreciate them.

This “powerbull” we call “Totally Deep”. He just does it all. Search out the green tags. Maybe the most impressive sire group and M.C. Quantock bred for generations. Last years “Deep Boys” were a standout and this year’s are just as strong. Massive girth and body...so easy fleshing you couldn’t keep them thin if you tried.
“We have bought bulls over the years and they always meet our expectations. Bulls we got this year are very good The black baldie came home from breeding fatter than when he left.” - L Adams, SK

We bought Emblazon from Nordal as an outcross bull. We appreciated his big body and flawless structure. He is an impressive bull to study in the flesh. Thick, meaty with a “low center of gravity.” You will love his sons. “Beefy” balance with lots of body. His sons have been popular in the past. Look for the yellow tags.
“We bought 11 bulls sight unseen in 2023. No BS, very reputable. Bulls were easy to handle, nice on fences. Couldn’t be much happier to see these cows calve.” – W. Harden, Hard Headed Ranch, SK

“Impressed with the level of individual customer service! Mac took the time to call and talk to us about our program numerous times.”
- Charcoal Creek Cattle, BC
We’re cowmen first and these are cowmen’s bulls. Our objective in Charolais bulls is to provide our customers bulls that maximize the Char cross advantage in feeder calves and minimize any problems. Our bulls are thick bulls but they are still smooth bulls. The bulls have rapid early growth which you need and the two year olds will not be too big. Our Charolais are built for the ranch trade with very moderate birth weights and unquestionable soundness - white bulls that will last and last. We deliver what you asked for: lots of hair, so you can sell those “deep coated, good doin’” tan or silver calves and top the market; good dispositions because we’ve all got families that help; unquestionable soundness, because some other Charolais bulls don’t last; moderate frames because some others get too big. Our Charolais pack lots of muscle, are long bodied, smooth and not real tall. Gently grown out and sold in perfect working condition. Charolais are still the best terminal sire for a British cross cow and the char cross premium at market is not to be denied.

All Charolais bulls purebred and papers provided ~
“We deliver the Charolais bulls you asked for.”
“Two year olds that are thick and heavy but not too tall.”
“Solid, smooth bulls.”
We have been a reliable source of Charolais bulls for nearly 30 years. Because our roots run deep in the commercial industry, you can depend on us to continue to be your reliable source of mainstream Charolais bulls in volume. For many years our Charolais were cooperator produced, but the ranch bred 200 purebred Charolais last summer of our own. The white herd is developing that “shot from a gun” uniformity that all our other lines of seedstock are known for. Our Charolais are now grass calved in May-June and are younger than most twos. They are real “ranch” bulls calving on their own with only once per day checks. They are the kind of cowman’s Charolais we can all use. Our Charolais “Summer Twos,” run out on grass all summer to assure soundness. This marks the eighth year we will sell white bulls born and raised on the home ranch. We bought the cream of the old Ray Murphy FMX cowherd to add to the mix here at MC Quantock. This set of bulls are as good as any we have ever sold, one look over the fence sale day and you will agree. “Hairy, meat wagons” raised here along with our other lines. We’ve made ‘em uniform, we’ve made ‘em hairy and we’ve made ‘em convenient. You will only be able to tell them apart by the ear tags. Cody knows these bulls and this little cowherd “inside out” so talk to him sale day.

We call him “Braxton” after his dad. We bought him at $26,000 in the Beck/ McCoy sale in 2018, then shared him with Horseshoe E. He sires just one big powerful bull after another. He’s been used hard at two operations for 4 years and looks great. He sired some good ones at Horseshoe last year and the big power “peach” tags will impress!!
“I have had good luck buying bulls from Mac. Had an issue after first year with one sight unseen bull - Mac made it right.”

This is “Cypriot” - We made history in the Spiritwood Auction Mart the day we bought him at $17,500 but he has been worth every penny. He was used on heifers for several seasons, “calves like a dream”. Sons are hairy thick bulls, moderate in frame and birth. He’s one of the good ones.

Routes may change depending on bull distribution. Routes indicated are usually run in April with early deliveries done after sale if necessary. Some bulls may be interlined with other carriers where neccessary. Bull Development bulls will be delivered throughout April, area by area. By April 1 have a spot for your new bulls.
In the unlikely event you have trouble... rest assured I’ll look after it right away... no hassles or disputes. If you purchase our bulls, you’ll have a bull to breed your cows no matter what happens. We semen test all bulls and evaluate them for breeding soundness. Simply put... they’re guaranteed to work or they’ll be replaced. We always have loaners available to help out if needed. If you have a bull down, we’ll meet you halfway anywhere in Western Canada, 24 hours a day with a replacement, because when you have trouble and you’ve got cows to breed... you need bulls, not excuses and time wasted. (We recommend insurance coverage for breeding or physical injury, especially since bull values have increased. This can be purchased sale day). All warranty and responsibility is limited to replacement of the bull in question.
