FORM EXPLORATION
04
Color and Light, Experimentation By experimenting with the effect of light & shadows, an understanding of how such physical elements affect the aesthetics, atmosphere and mood of an interior space is achieved.
Summer Colors
Winter Colors
In the case of this experiment, the outline of the leaf has been abstracted to shape the light rays that enter the space, effectively creating a “live silhouette, while various colors were added into the mix of patterns to mimic the 4 seasons.

FORM EXPLORATION 05
SPATIAL TRANSITIONS + LIGHT & SHADOW : THE STRUCTURAL CLOUD Conceptual sketch
With all 3 levels connected by a central void, the spiral circulation of the form mimics wind patterns, while a more structural approach was used for the roof.
Triangulated patterns were deliberately applied to cast shadow on the main surface areas of the form.
INT. ARCH&DESIGN
FINAL EXPLORATION :
THE DIAMONDSCAPE
06
Radial layout conceptual sketch
The Diamondscape was the end result of the 4-month long form-exploration process. The form was not singular, but an arrangement of 3 different “shells each composed of the signature triangulation patterns, linked together with a spiraling walkway. The Deconstructivist triangulation Patterns were a continuation of the previous form-making process (page 05)

DESIGN FUNDAMENTALS – WALL MURAL COMPETITION Bringing Education to life and life to Education Brief : Propose a wall mural painting intellectually and artistically interpreting Temasek Polytechnic’s slogan, “Bringing education to life and life to education”
Proposal :
“Changing the world by Design”, “Endless possibilities” was the proposed theme for the wall mural proposal.
Falling leaves represent a change in season and direction
Curvilinear lines characterize the wall mural. Each individual line is represented by a different color – They all intertwine, representing the crossing of paths between each person. The lines then spread out, representing the numerous possiblities an education at Temasek Polytechnic’s renown Design School can provide.
INT. ARCH&DESIGN
Each of these paintings are located at staircases, as evidenced by the sloping lines on each piece

BRIEF :
“Propose a retail design concept for a group of 3 Fashion Design students to display and sell their merchandise inspired by late fashion designer Christian Dior”
Inspiration image
A2- sized poster reflecting the interpretation of Christian Dior’s design elements
SITE : With the allocated site being located in the open air, double-volume space of Temasek Polytechnic’s Design school, the design strategy was to conform to the selected area of 200sq.m, and allow for users to pass through the busy walkway without obstruction yet providing enough space for displays. Initial conceptual sketch
Conceptual sketches
Development of design concept : A directional form consisting of curvilinear lines wrapping around the 2-storey facility like a dress
A further experimented form-making process called for a more functional design – cubes cladded with a façade consisting of curvilinear lines, each of them manipulated in an ascending/descending order, less directional design. INT. ARCH&DESIGN

FINAL DESIGN PROPOSAL : THE VERTICAL EDGE The final design proposal, named The Vertical Edge was an arrangement of manipulated rectilinear forms, each receiving their own treatment of graceful curvilinear lines(resembling fabric) of tensile material. The busy walkway level was left mostly unobstructed and most of the retail activity placed on the 2nd level, leaving a centralized glass box display that extends from the second level creating a visual connection between the walkway and retail (2nd)level.

INTERIOR ZONING By analyzing the client’s spatial requirements based on his profession and lifestyle, a zoning layout to suit his needs are achieved. The outcome of this would be a correlation of “public” areas on the first level, starting from the entrance, where he can show potential buyers visuals of his property, then bring them to the living room for more discussion, and finally to the dining table for signing of contracts or a treat as a kind gesture. Analyzing external factors has led to the placement of the bedroom in the direction facing the scenic Kallang River for the users’ enjoyment. The display area is deliberately placed facing the entrance to the carpark/street such that it is the first encounter when entering the space, allowing the client to do an introduction.

27 SKYLIGHT PIVOTING EXPERIMENTATION
SUN RAYS ALLOWED INWARDS
SUN RAYS DEFLECTED
To allow the users of the space control over the amount of sunlight that enters, a pivot-based skylight control system was experimented with. The highly versatile pivot based skylight Control system will not only allow for the control of the direction of light that enters the building, but also the the amount of sunlight and heat.

LIVING ROOM
The final design proposal sought to provide a soothing environment forliving, social gatherings and work. As spaciousness and versatility was the basis of the design concept for Terrace by the waterfront, the space makes use of user- controllable natural lighting systems(roof) and rotable aluminium privacy screens(faรงade). The highlight - A huge void which makes a connection between the office, bedroom and living room makes a highly spacious and airy atmosphere.
