The United Nations has adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) and 169 associated targets in 2015 as the objective for 2016 through 2030. Building on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the SDGs aims to collaborate corporations, governments, and many international organizations in addressing challenges of sustainable developments. The promotion of sustainable development in Taiwan has many successes, especially in corporate sustainability. With an internationally reputed foundation, international collaborations have been encouraged in Taiwan for corporations and for academic studies. Based on the platform of collaboration and global trend in sustainability, the 2018 Global Corporate Sustainability Forum(GCSF) has been established. A sincere welcome is delivered to all participants for attending in the Forum, and congratulations to all award winners for your outstanding achievements in sustainable development.

Actions for Corporate Sustainability To Implement Social Responsibility, To Promote Sustainable Development Goals

The GCSF, hosted by Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals (A・SDGs), is a cross-disciplinary event comprises two award ceremonies, a summit forum, two plenary sessions for focal speeches, and six parallel sessions for extensive discussions on corporate sustainability. The Global Corporate Sustainability Awards (GCSA)-Professional and Reporting Awards are presented to outstanding international corporation and professionals to recognize their achievements in corporate sustainability. Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) is presented to domestic corporations in honor of their success in implementing corporate sustainability in various categories. Sessions and workshops on different topics relating to corporate sustainability are organized by several professional organizations including BSI Taiwan, Deloitte Taiwan, EY Taiwan, PwC Taiwan, ICLEI Southeast Asia Secretariat, Center for Corporate Sustainability (CCS), and National Taipei University. The forum is expected to reach the scale of 1,500 participants congregating delegates, speakers, participants, and audiences from more than 10 countries. This forum is not only strived to promote corporate sustainable development but also to facilitate knowledge and opinions exchange among domestic and international experts and professionals.

Gathering Sustainable Institutions to Construct a Cross-Sector Platform for Sustainability

A・SDGs was established in August 2018 to address the SDGs among organizations. The alliance consists of corporations, government agencies, universities, research institutions, as well as NGO/NPOs. A・SDGs' missions including building consciousness in brand's value, offering platform for matchmaking green business opportunities, strengthening competitiveness and collaborations for global trade market, and facilitating all relevant bodies towards SDGs. A・SDGs has made an effort and good start in enhancing awareness and capabilities of sustainable development, establishing partnership among stakeholders, and promoting sustainable education. The alliance will maintain the momentum for encouraging further performance improvement of SDGs by its member organizations.

About

Global Corporate Sustainability Awards

As former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon noted in regards to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: “Business is a vital partner in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Companies can contribute through their core activities, and we ask companies everywhere to assess their impact, set ambitious goals and communicate transparently about the results.”(UN 2017). The implementation of corporate sustainability initiatives and the publishing of Corporate Sustainability Reports are activities that are now expected from the international business community. In order to encourage international enterprises' development corporate sustainability and SDGs, We host the“Global Corporate Sustainability Awards”(GCSA). International enterprises will thus be offered qualitative and quantitative assistance in their corporate governance informational disclosures, which will serve to further their contribution to the protection of sustainable development, environmental friendliness, and social justice. The GCSA will offer recognition in two major award categories: “GCSA – Professional” and “GCSA – Reporting”.

The Award recognizes exemplary individuals that have made outstanding contributions to sustainable development within their organizations, in order to promote fulfilment of social responsibility.

GCSA- Professional Evaluation Criteria

The Criterial is based on outstanding achievement, contribution, impact and reputation etc. of nominee. To select the professional individual model is worth learning for all corporate owners and managers in the field of sustainability.

GCSA- Professional Winners Christopher Wellise is an innovative, results-oriented sustainability and social responsibility professional capable of identifying and delivering award-winning global programs, building focused teams, developing strategic partnerships and implementing rapid transitions to positively impact an organization's revenue, environmental and social governance performance and reputation. He has expertise in a broad variety of corporate sustainability and social innovation concepts and leadership practices; solid understanding of the challenges and opportunities of multinational companies related to sustainable development, strategy, innovation, brand building, transparency and reporting.

Christopher Wellise' key contributions to corporate sustainability including pioneering several collaborative initiatives to drive sustainability in the technology industry, including being a founding member of the Future of Internet Power Initiative and the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance. He frequently writes thought leadership on emerging solutions to power IT infrastructure sustainably and works across Hewlett Packard Enterprise(HPE)’s innovation teams to pilot new technologies. His innovative thinking also led to the design and implementation of several social impact programs at HPE, including the Living Progress Challenge (award winning) which ambitiously sought to improve the lives of one million people through the application of HPE technology. Through his eight years at HPE (and formerly HP Co.), he has significantly improved the company's corporate sustainability performance as demonstrated through leading ratings and rankings.

To fulfill the commitment of corporate social responsibility, Chairman Peng established CSR Committee in 2013, and in 2018, he further promoted organizational transformation and established Headquarter of Sustainable Development and Chief Sustainability Officer position to closely integrate CSR strategy with the company's business.

Paul Peng

Chairman & CEO, AU Optronics Corporation

In the environmental field, Chairman Peng focuses on green industry, facilitating solar energy to increase contribution to clean energy, and establishes new businesses through waste water full-recycling technology, having an impact on other industries and moving towards sustainable business opportunities. In the promotion of education, he makes good use of AU Optronics Corporation(AUO)'s technology to optoelectronic science education, through the cooperation of National Museum of Natural Science, and two environmental education facilities at AUO Taichung and Longtan sites, promoting science education from elementary to high school. Meanwhile, he promotes the GOLF project to integrate of learning and field, reduces the gap in the workplace, and cultivates Taiwan's talents. In the social care dimension, Chairman Peng engages in social welfare with volunteering culture; and becomes a role model of cultural preservation, as he preserved local culture in different sites, so that the balance of technology and culture was achieved. Under his leadership, AUO has been successful in creating a high-quality work environment, allowing employees to enjoy a balanced work and family life, so as to be an enterprise of happiness and safety.

Chi Mun Woo Partner, Risk Advisory, Deloitte Australia

Chi is a Partner at Deloitte Australia’s Sustainability practice with over 18 years of experiences internationally. Chi advises businesses and NGOs on sustainability issues and strategies, management systems, performance measurement, benchmarking, reporting and assurance. Some of Chi’s notable clients includes National Australia Bank, Bursa Malaysia, Mirvac, Telstra, Government of Botswana and many others.

Alan is a Partner in PwC UK leading the Integrated Reporting and the Global Sustainability Reporting and Assurance. Alan sits on the IAASB project Emerging External Reporting(EER) that focus on establishing measurement and reporting, as well as developed the Total Impact Measurement and Management(TIMM) offering within PwC, which helps companies explaining their impacts across multiple capitals. Alan also is the Senior Partner in running the Building Public Trust Awards programme, which focus on how reporting can build trust and relationships between corporates and stakeholders.

Keiichi Ushijima is the Japan leader of EY’s Climate Change and Sustainability Services team based in Tokyo. Prior to joining EY, Keiishi worked for a Japanese giant manufacture focus on integrating CSR with business strategy and development of human resources strategy. Keiishi's vision is to offer next generation of capitalism through good CSR practices.

Christine holds a Master degree from National Taiwan University in Public Administration and joined the Hewlett Packard Enterprise(HPE)(formerly HP Co.) management in 2000, she has successfully established and implemented the sustainability business and practices into HPE's Asia Pacific and Japan region. Christine is a founder in establishing HPE's Environmental Management team and supported HPE in obtaining 1st eco-label certificate in the region. Christine is active in sharing her knowledge in establishing sustainable business directions in companies.

Tok is a Project Officer in Urban Low Emission Development Strategies(Urban-LEDS II) Project in Lao PDR. Tok has worked at Department of Climate Change, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and the Green Climate Fund(GCF) Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme with 6 years of experiences in climate change related areas. Tok's main responsibilities include coordination, management, and planning of numerous climate change projects at local and global level.

Joy Camille A. Baldo Project Officer Sustainability Management, ICLEI Southeast Asia Secretariat

Serving as a Project Officer for Sustainability Management at ICLEI Southeast Asia Secretariat(ICLEI SEAS), Joy is actively coordinating with local governments addressing local sustainability challenges while leading numerous sustainability projects across southeast Asia. Joy previously served as an Ecosystems Management Specialist and Science Research Specialist for the Biodiversity Management Bureau(DENR-BMB) and Department of Science and Technology(DOST-PTRI). She is also part of the inaugural class of UN SDSN’s Local Pathways Fellows made up of a group of young sustainability leaders.

ICLEI Sustainable City Dialogue Linking International Initiatives and Local Actions

Currently serving as the Regional Program Manager of ICLEI Southeast Asia, Ranell provides strategic direction and implements various sustainability projects. He is currently managing“Ambitious City Promises”implemented in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam focuses on pursuing low emission development, strengthening citizen engagement, and promoting multi-level governance. Ranell worked in various foreign-assisted climate change projects supported by the United States Agency for International Development(USAID) and European Union prior to joining ICLEI and had 11 years of professional experience in development works. Ranell holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Communication major in Science Communication(cum laude) and a MSc in Environmental Science from the University of the Philippines Los Baños(UPLB).

Nisa is a program officer of the "Accelerating climate action through the promotion of Urban Low Emission Development Strategies", or "Urban-LEDS II" project in Indonesia. She had numerous project experiences throughout Asia including Integrated Resource Management in Asian Cities, The Urban Nexus, Asian Climate Change Resilience Network(ACCCRN) project. Prior to joining ICLEI, Nisa worked as a researcher at Indonesian Center for Environmental Law(ICEL), where she supported research, advocacy and capacity building to improve the environmental governance both in local and national level.

Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards

To Encourage the Implement of Corporate Social Responsibility and to Promote Corporate Sustainable Development in Taiwan

Since 2008, Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy(TAISE) has held the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards(TCSA) to evaluate entrants for the Award, enjoying appreciable growth in participation each year,

with an accumulated total to date of 236 corporations, whose corporate income constitute 82% of Taiwan GDP, indicating the importance that domestic enterprises place on the Award. To ensure evaluation

objective, fair and just, TAISE has offered more than 40 the Judge Tranning classes and successfully trained over 800 volunteer judges. These volunteer judges are from a broad range of industries and

entities's personnel with CSR background. They have completed training and test for selection processes

and practical judging experience, ensuring that the system nurtures a coterie of qualified corporate sustainability personal, while furthering the relevant technical information and capabilities, thereby enhancing our goals of ensuring judging objectivity and transparency.

Corporate Sustainability Management Professional

In order to enhance companies' sustainable development and social responsibility practices, National Taipei University, College of Business and Taiwan Institute of Sustainable Energy(TAISE) have established a corporate sustainability management certification system. The content of the course is the recollection of the methods and ideas from a team of expert consultants. The course will not only establish a foundation for sustainability management in enterprises, schools, and institutions but also enrich the management skills in each functional area. The course has trained 106 management specialists where more than half of them are management level executives. The program is highly appreciated in the industries, and has been recognized as the only and the most comprehensive corporate sustainability training.
