Television presenter, actor, radio personal and voice over artist, Nehemiah Tjatji took time off his busy schedule and sat down with Auzweke’s Gift Tlou, for a Comprehensive interview. Detailing his journey in the entertainment industry thus far. The City of Withbank, Emalahleni in the Mpumalanga province is mostly occupied by mines and power stations where coal and electricity is generated. Many young adults in surrounding areas therefore find themselves with no choice but to settle for a jobs in the mining sector. However, this wasn’t the case with Ring of lies actor Nehemiah Tjatji, who lives to tell a different tale. “Emalahleni, that’s where I was groomed” he starts, “I went to withbank Christian Academy and that’s where I completed my matric”. “Growing up I’ve always been active, I remember I did modelling, I was an MC at various events in the neighbourhood and I even volunteered on the community radio station Emalahleni fm”, He recollects. With no tertiary qualification to his name and coming from a small town breaking into the industry was always going to be a mission but with commitment and dedication Tjatji was able to fulfil his dreams. “My drama teacher in high school Ms Desire Venter is the one that made me realise how talented I am, she’s still my mentor till today”. “I don’t have any diploma or degree, what worked for me is that I attended a lot of workshops and did crash courses and I’ve got a little bit of accreditations to my name”, He explains. From a younger age it was evident that the TV superstar was destined for success as he got to tour overseas were he showcased his talent and auditioned at the performing art school in New York where he was offered a scholarship to come study, but it wasn’t to be for a 19 year old Nehemiah, since the school only covered 65% of his fees. Meaning, the other 35% had to be from his own pocket which was expensive for his family at the time.

BREAKING INTO THE INDUSTRY Like any other actors or presenters the Withbank actor had to go through

8

countless auditions before getting his big break. “I went to a lot of auditions to get where I am, and I still go to auditions”. “but I actually surprised myself when I got the role to be on season two ring of lies, I mean, you look at all the great actors there and being chosen to work amongst them is just an humbling experience”, he notes. Nehemiah hasn’t limited himself in the entertainment space as he also auditioned for MTV base, where he didn’t get the gig. That didn’t stop the Tv personal from knocking on other doors as he soon auditioned for Sabc 1 weekend show Mzansi insider. “I made it to the top six potentials from Joburg, so, yes I came very close but unfortunately it wasn’t to be, someone else got it and I had to move on to the next one”, says Nehemiah. The bubbly entertainer is also a stand in Dj on Trans Africa radio where he delivers the African top 40 to listeners on weekends.

VERIFIED ON SABC 1 Although he didn’t bag any presenting gig at previous auditions where he tried his luck at. Producers at the sabc told him about a new upcoming show called verified, and advised him to audition. Which is exactly what he did in December 2017. “I auditioned, then earlier this year I got a call from the sabc that I got the gig and I’ll be presenting the show which is set to start soon”, he beams in excitement. “what really happened is that I always did my best when I got a chance to audition, even when I didn’t get the part the feedback from the judges, producers and brand managers would always be overwhelming, so that really helped a lot and I knew that I’ll definitely make it soon”, he reminisces.

TV OR RADIO With the entertainer doubling as both Television and radio presenter. We asked him which one he prefers, “I prefer Television, I also love radio”, he clarifies. “ I like being on screen because now people get to see me and obviously being on ring of lies it means I get to work with all this great actors like Warren Masemola and I get to learn a lot from them and grow my brand” he says.

10

Nehemiah is also a radio Dj where he dishes out the best Africa hits on Trans Africa radio. “I like to work on radio during weekends so that people can see me on the television during the week and I can make an impact on that level is really great”. At the moment Nehemiah finds himself as a stand in, with the hope of getting his own weekend show when the new line up is revealed in May. Like any other industry the entertainment space has got it’s own challenges especially for new talent. “Yes there are challenges, the first one I’d say is getting the job be it in acting or radio, we’ve got a lot of talent out there but it’s just difficult”. “Many clients or producers want familiar faces heading up their projects so the new talented guy or lady has to be left outside, also being area bound is a real challenge, I’m from Emalahleni so travelling back and forth to Joburg was really a mission and we’ve still got others out there who don’t enjoy the luxury of being based in Gauteng. With that being said Nehemiah also points out the positives of the entertainment industry. “The acting industry has really opened up now, we’ve got more shows, more production companies are being set up and there’s more content out there so basically our infrastructures are also growing”. “Social media is also a good platform for young people to build their brands and it enables them to access certain jobs within the industry”, he concedes.

THE FUTURE Nehemiah is truly an inspiring public figure to the youth out there and a perfect example that your current circumstances don’t determine your future. “For someone who wants to be in this game, the only way for you to be excellent is to do more than what you get paid to for”. “A lot of young people out there want microwave success, they want to be mc, presenters, be on screen and all that but only a few wants to shadow or volunteer, young people must pay their dues climb up the ladder, trust god in everything and he shall lead”. We celebrate the women who some have had to sacrifice so much in their lives just so they can make sure that their children are as happy as they deserve. The month of May is yet another reminder to celebrate she who reigns supreme, she who automatically drops everything without being asked to come to the rescue of the apple of their eye, the fruits of their womb, just so they can make sure that they are happy and protected. However not only are we celebrating those who have had to push a cargo for nine months, we are also celebrating those selfless women who have had to raise and unconditionally love those they birthed not. We are celebrating women who overlooked DNA and said “I will love you like my own, provide a roof over your head

14

and protect you the best possible way I know how”. We are also celebrating that woman who had to bond with her son/daughter for months only to have to let them go to be angels. We see them, we feel their pain and empathise with them but above all we respect them for carrying on even though conditions were unfavourable and unpleasant to get through. “Today I look at myself and I don’t see anyone worth being thanked after God and that is my mother. She has seen me through the most hardest and painful times, she has taught and groomed me into the powerful and responsible woman I have become today. Happy mothers’ day mother, I hope you grow to see me reach all heights you ever prayed that I reach”, said Oluhle Ngwenyama about and to her mother.

R’S DAY TO OUR UMAN BEINGS, PPRECIATE YOU.

nth to a lot of people, because it is a month where we nd loved us. We are celebrating women who taught us ove and how to give love.

This is what Katlego Lekgetho from Mohlakeng had to say about his mother, “The thought of my mother brings tears to my eyes because she has been more than a mother to me. They usually say girls are their mothers’ best friends, but not only does it apply to girls, boys too get that. My mother is a friend when I need one, a brother when I need one and a sister when I need one. Sometimes we get our moments of fighting, but that does not change the fact that life without her would just be so miserable. Happy mothers day/ month mother. I am blessed to have you as a mother’’. ‘’I remember I was only 15years old and I had already given up on life, I could not see any light at the end of the tunnel, coming from a family where the eldest (me) was 15years old and the youngest was 5years old has to be the hardest thing life could have ever thrown at me. Then one day God sent an angel our way, an

angel we now refer to as mama. She took us in and treated us like her own flesh and blood, she showed us love and she protected us, not even once to date has she ever made me or my siblings feel adopted. Today I can confidently say, being a mother does not require a person to carry a child for 9months, but requires a loving and genuine person. Happy mother’s day dear mother, words can never express how having you for a mother makes me feel’’, Anonymous. We from Auzweke and everybody else interviewed would like to extend our greatest appreciation to our prayer warriors, the heroines, survivors of all odds and miracle performers. It is through your prayers that we have strength; it is through your prayers that even when we are weak we are strong. Let the month of May be all about you because you deserve it. By Phindi

Period Pains 101

Welcome to another informative instalment of MjojoLivity. We know you are not supporting our “healthtaining” segment because it’s free but beacause you like us and you find the information very educational. Please keep sharing our work for awareness, we love you.

This month we are talking period pains. I know you are seated there wondering why we chose this time. Look, winter is approaching, and most women experience horrific period pains during this time due to cold temperatures. For the purpose of this article, please forget for a moment that I am a man. Period pains affect men too.

16

Period pains are throbbing pains or cramps that are felt by women in their lower abdomen region during menstruations. These pains are as a result of muscle contractions in the uterus that inhibit blood flow to the endometrium which result in the shedding of the endometrium thus bleeding (menstruations) are observed.so why the pain? The uterus has nerves, during the shedding of the endometrium and uterine muscle contractions, these nerves become affected due to being compressed and lacking blood supply.

One more advice, visit your healthcare provider for a full medical workup. You may be having a serious underlying problem like uterine cyst, fibroids or endometriosis. These would need to be treated accordingly. On the other hand, hormonal treatment may be the solution. One of the reported benefits of birth control pills or injections is the reduction of period pains. Now please, don’t go out there telling people that @MasondoLtd said contraceptives cure period pains. I said “REDUCTION OF PERIOD PAINS”.

During my times, I mean the times when I used to work at the local clinic. I used to attend to young school girls who would leave school to come to the clinic due to intolerable period pains. Shame, imagine losing on school lessons because of this. Women and young girls go through the most indeed.

The healthcare provider may also recommend pain tablets and anti-inflammatories based on their assessment. These have been helpful for most women over the past years. Period pains are a horrible experience to go through. They should be taken serious. Women stay away from school and work because of these pains. They miss out on important parts of their lives because of having to “take it easy” and endure the pains.

Period pains are aggravated by cold weather conditions, uterine cysts, endometriosis, hormonal imbalances and diet. The first step in self-managing period pains is ruling out the cause. During cold weather conditions, women are advised to dress warm, paying more attention around their lower abdomen and waist. Hot Water bottles may be placed around the region as well, however I would advise that one ensures that the hot water has no leaks. There are women who have suffered burns from water bottles that were leaking. Don’t be dom, be safe ladies. Eating too much salty or fatty foods may not be a good idea ladies. I know, during periods you want some comfort snacks and all that, but these will hit you with a bad karma. Salt causes water retention in the body. This results in bloating. Bloating increases pressures in the abdominal region which may aggravate period pains. Fatty foods may increase the release of prostaglandins. These are chemicals that cause the uterus to contract. Now, you don’t need this type of drama right?

This is MjojoLivity, always looking out for your health. We hope you are learning and becoming empowered with matters related to your health. Remember to follow @Auzweke and @MasondoLtd on all social media platforms to continue our conversations. Oh, wait… Did you hear that @Auzweke has it’s its own drama series called “Lefa”? WHO’S KWANELE N With the 11th edition of the FNB Varsity Rugby coming to a conclusion a week ago, Where Stellenbosch University clinched the title with an emphatic 40-7 victory over North-west University. The varsity showpiece managed to give exposure to aspiring rugby stars, amongst those is Wits winger, Kwenele Adequate Ngema AUZWEKE MAGAZINE: WHO IS KWANELE NGEMA?

What do you get up to on a daily basis?

KWANELE: Kwanele is a 22 year old from Kwamashu in Durban and I’m an aspiring rugby player.

I have training in the morning, then during the day I attend my classes. In the evening I go for training again. When did the love for rugby start? I’ve been playing since a young age but only in grade 11 I started taking this more seriously. That is when I also made it to the Sharks under 18 Academy squad, and from there on my love for rugby kept growing.

Are you attached to any rugby team? Not at the moment. But I’ve previously played for the lions under 21 side and recently I played for wits in the Varsity cup.

What are you studying? I’m doing my final year in teaching, majoring in history and sub majors’ physical education.

Is there any other sports you played? Yes, I was involved in a lot of sports, soccer, athletics and I also took part in swimming. So I’ve been quite an athlete.

What motivated you to study How would you differentiate teaching? schools rugby from the rugby I come from a background where my played in Varsity? parents are both teachers. I’ve also got a heart for people, I figured that when I was a head boy back in high school. It’s a great platform for me to inspire people who are still young and dreaming to make something out of their life and obviously giving back. What are the chances of you pursuing a career in teaching instead of rugby? That is something I can’t rule out, actually the chances are very high hy. I’ve got only few months left in varsity then next year I can go work.

Which one will you choose between rugby and teaching? As I said, I won’t mind being a teacher it’s something that I also have passion for. But at the moment I haven’t made up my mind yet, so I’m still deciding.

20

The structures are totally different to begin with, in Varsity it’s more focused and you get that sense of professionalism. I can actually say there’s not much difference in varsity rugby and the bigger rugby leagues and players from the games, techniques, strength and the whole set up. Your biggest achievement so far? Making it to the semi-finals with wits. I mean wits is known as an institution that is big on academics and I don’t think anyone gave us a chance going into the tournament.

Your memorable match? The game where we came back against the Maties, (Stellenbosch University) and played to a 30 all draw. It was quite an experience and an unforgettable one.

Is there any ritual you perform ahead of a game? Not really, I just pray, listen to my music most of the time its gospel and maybe I’ll watch a few motivational videos.

Are you satisfied with your rugby career? I’d say I am satisfied and blessed to be where I am and I’m really excited about the future at the same time.

What does the future hold for Kwanele? For me it’s to be the best that I can, achieve my goals like getting my degree this year I know that will mean a lot to my parents and myself of course.

Have you got any message to upcoming rugby players? Work hard every single day, be engaged in consistent action. All things are possible you just have to believe in yourself and you don’t need to have a certain background to make something of your life. It all boils down to hard work and dedication then everything shall work out. By Gift Tlou

MUSIC BREED FRIEND

They say great minds think alike and that two brains are better than one. In this case, four brains are better than one because the 4 ways clique has come together out of the love of music; however, their union goes deeper than music. Auzweke speaks to the 4 ways clique and we learn more about this hip hop group and media establishment from West rand The 4 ways clique is made up of 4 young men from Simunye in the west rand that come from different backgrounds. Max (aka Maxnotsober) and Bash were born and raised in Bekkersdal and then later moved to Simunye. Clash, the third member of the group was born in Bekkersdal but lived most of his life in Simunye and Themba (aka Teejaz) was born and raised in Zuurbekom. They discovered their love for music in different ways and it ultimately brought them together. They all have other interests but the music has always been the core of it all. Max was a student at Westcol, he later dropped out to pursue his music career while Clash and Themba have careers in the media industry. Through mutual friends, the 4 ways clique was born in November 2016 and according to them, forming the group was easier than coming up with the name. “As much as we have different stories to tell, our stories intersect and that what we call a four way stop, the meeting of great idea ideas.” They said. Over and above their love for music, 4 ways clique has the passion to improve the arts and culture participation in the West rand and inspire young people to have dreams outside their communities. “We want to see everybody advancing and becoming better versions of them.” The 4 ways clique has already taken steps to improve the lives of young people in their communities.

28

DS BEAUTIFUL DSHIPS “We want to see everybody advancing and becoming a better version of themselves.”

When asked how they were planning on helping the young people in their community, this is what they had to say? “We are determined to move beyond creating music that inspires the youth to creating opportunities to make sure that everybody is good, we come from the same background as them, we know what most of them are feeling. Eighty percent of the time we (the youth) are hopeless and depressed… we are open to giving a hand in terms of information and assisting in any way possible.” They released their first ever work titled the love, life and dreams EP in November 2017.Its purpose was to inspire people to fight for their dreams. Amongst their plans for 2018, there is a video and a full project which will be released before July 2018. The 4 ways clique is a combination of bright young men, with Clash, a Public relations student at the University of Johannesburg and Themba, a journalism Honours graduate. The sky is not even the limit for these young men. “We have grown, we saw our mistakes, and we know now what needs to be done better, so this project is really something to look out for.’ They said. The West rand is a society full of talented young people with big dreams, having a group such as the 4 ways clique encourages them to fight for what they believe in and make things happen for themselves, this group is a testimony to say, it is possible to get something up and running from the ground up, regardless of your background. AUZWEKE Poem

Beauty with no stain On sleepless nights I look at the time It’s 3 hours after midnight. I go deep into the corridors of my thoughts. I finally find that after all this time, You are the one that’s keeping me awake. I really need a break! From aloof I zoom the moon. Suddenly I feel this sudden soul maneuver Consciously the unconscious becomes conscious. I feel each and every tear that dropped I hear each sound of my weeping While my mouth covered. Trying not to make any sound I don’t want to get any body up... I remember each and everything Like it happened today. I dugg deeper into my thoughts. Making a way to break away, I lost myself along the way Bear in mind I never gave up anyway. In the process of losing myself I found myself.. I started to realize that it was never actually about you. All along it has been about me It was me Not only me but the inner me. the ener-G, the inner God that gives life to the temple inside. I was never a victim, I am Victoria Victoriously victory is all I know. All my spirit does is win. Beauty with no stain.

30

Suddenly I feel this strong connection Inside My body. This connection is out of this spectrum. I lost my unconsciousness in the 6th dimension. Get the memorundum Now I am on mode Indigo, Wherever the spirit is leading My body is ready for soul ĂŠlĂŠvation I am ready to go, I am ready to float. Beauty with no stain I gain power through the pain. See I am not afraid to let it burn. Some women get burned by the fire But I am made out of the fire. Its my state of ignition Like the phoenix I die a little to live again. I am that beauty with no stain I have everything inside of me to gain. My ancestors guides me We are connected they never forget they never left me. I know the power of the spirit. When some say they are the superiors, When some say they are the natives, and when some say they are the chosen people. I do not care what you call yourself, I am the original people. A substitute could never be better than the original. I am the cosmic blueprint I am the beauty with no stain! O Shaka
