Happy new mom k Carla Claasen known as RubyGold from the city of gold, Johannesburg, celebrates being a new mom and grows her Trance-Jazz music genre to be known and appreciated by more young people. The new mom to her second daughter was recognised as a vocalist when she was 17 years of age, this was at the age she signed her first music contract. RubyGold is said to be different from other vocalists because she draws inspiration from various music genres she listens to and comes up with her own genre. She developed a genre she calls Trans-Jazz which is the combination of tempo soul, house, spiritual trance and RnB. The beautiful young woman decided to be a musician because “Music chose me; singing came naturally to me so the music business was automatically appealing,” she said. Moreover, she explained that she had always dreamt of being one since the earliest age she can remember which was when she was four years of age. Apart from being a vocalist, RubyGold is a songwriter and this part of her career is inspired by her desire for storytelling. “song-writing gives me an opportunity to express a feeling or storyline in my own way; that other people can relate to,” said the 31-year-old songwriter. Box Unlimited is her first album with the Independent Label licensed with Gallo Records, this album is meant expose her song writing skills and to make people hear the melody of her voice. At the moment she has two singles which are circulating on radio stations which are Try Find Me and In the City.

keeps career going Through her music, the young talented female aims to grow herself and she claimed that as she grows she creates more music and “it’s awesome that my listeners grow with and through my music too,” she said. The name RubyGold emerged from the inheritance from her late mother which was “a gold ring with red rubies,” she said. Apart from music, her family which include her two daughters and her husband draw her attention. RubyGold decided to learn life by living it instead of having to attend school, “I elected to study through life instead of books; I study my voice and the psychology of my surroundings because it’s good for my art,” said the self-taught songwriter. As she was recently blessed with a daughter, she perceives this current experience as a period that made her remember “what really matters in life,” and “what this whole hustle is for,” she added. Furthermore, she said that having children did not disadvantage i\her in any way, the birth of her child did not give her a sense that her career will be jeopardised. Songs she releases are about love and she stated that some will have glimpses of the love her daughters taught her.
9
The vocalist and songwriter stated that there is more to be expected from her as she feels that her fans have not yet heard her full range that is of her full capability, “I look forward to exposing more of my vocal ability and telling more great stories through my songs,” she said. “I read the bible for motivation and have conversations with God... one quote I can think of right now is Ecclesiastes 3:1 “to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven”,” RubyGold stated. There are challenges she faces such as monetizing her talent, however she feels that she will also conquer this challenge because she is very much passionate about the music industry. The young artist is growing big and has no intensions of slowing down since this is what she wanted from an early age of four. Expressing her emotions through song writing and singing is the dream she will not let go of. By Boitumelo Kgobotlo

WHAT CAUSES TE
Every mother gives birth to their child with a wish and expectation to see them grow and prosper in life. In as much as we are aware of the reality of death, no mother anticipates finding themselves in a position of burying their teenage daughter or son, especially not to suicide. It is also a reality we unfortunately have to accept its existence and it is entirely up to us to do something to help eradicate this painful and unbearable experience we live with day in and out. Teenage suicide is a factor that holds one of the highest statistics in South Africa and the sad thing is that, we are still far from acknowledging it and its causes thereof. According to reports from SADAG every 3seconds a suicide attempt occurs and every 40seconds a successful suicide takes place in South Africa. Depression is said to be the leading factor amongst other mental illnesses accounting for 60% of these suicides. With an average that is reported from the academic hospitals being 17.2 of 100 000 (8% of deaths) making real figures much higher. It is also reported that 30% of depressed teenagers get help, abused and neglected teenagers are at a higher risk. Our country is faced with a challenge of teenagers not being reminded and reassured enough that it is ok not to be ok, it is also ok to talk to someone. Talking about feelings is treated as taboo and those who actually do talk are considered as weak and cowards. When in actual fact listening to a teenager who is reaching out for help and getting psychological assistance for them helps to decrease the number of suicides reported in a day and even better it helps to save a life almost lost.
14
Most teenagers today face and fight much bigger issues and challenges than meets the eye, where some are fortunate enough to overcome them and others unfortunate as they lose the battle and resort to suicide as the way out. We are unfortunately living in an era where there are teenage headed homes, bullied teenagers in schools, cyber bullying, teenagers who have to live with physically, emotionally and verbally abusive parents, with teenage girls finding themselves with unwanted and unplanned pregnancies post being sexually abused. All these challenges are enough to push them to a point of depression as they end up closing all the pain in with no-one to talk to, until it gets to a point where they cannot take it anymore and the only way out they see easy is suicide. “The pain I lived with started to cave in on me; I was suffocated and could not take it anymore. I felt I had to do something about it,’’: Said a 16years old Tebogo who attempted suicide after being gang raped and kept it to herself for fear of being killed by her rapists. It is really sad to have to accept that we live in an era where teenagers have problems that we only knew to be carried by elders. We find teenagers like Tebogo and one wonders what has the world come to really? A mother almost buried her child because she was violated and ordered not to tell, how much more cruel can this world get and what are we doing to change that?
EENAGE DEATH? A mother who lost her son to suicide said “Hopelessness and helplessness are the Molotov cocktail that triggers suicide,” These feelings are mostly triggered in these teenagers because we live in an era where our people are not as informed about depression and other mental issues that may lead to suicidal behaviours as they should be, leaving our teenagers unable to talk to their families and be able to identify their problems and get help for it. The time has arrived for us to educate ourselves and help save a life, inform and educate each other about signs, symptoms, treatment options and other factors pertaining to mental issues and in the end help eradicate teenage suicide. 75% of suicidal people give signs/ warnings of their intentions prior to committing suicide, therefore familiarizing ourselves with signs will help pick them up quickly and intervene. A person who has previously attempted suicide should not be overlooked; they should be given the help they need as mostly end up being successful at some point during their attempts so the first call is important to answer. During conversations if a (Person) teenager talks about death a lot regardless of it being direct or indirect that could also be a call for help, guard against sentences that suggest that their families/world would be happier if they were not around. It is important to also note that, even though most depressed people are not suicidal, most suicidal people are depressed hence it is important to get them psychological help. “I was given names and treated badly because of a man who could
not keep his manhood to himself; no-one was willing to listen to me. I hated everything about my life and felt nothing was worth living for anymore,” said a teenage girl who found herself impregnated by her step dad and judgements towards her were flowing from all directions of life, enough to drive her straight to the verge of depression and suicidal attempts, when all that was needed was to be listened to and get help. February is not just a month to celebrate love; it is a month to help prevent teenage suicide as well. A partnership is needed amongst communities, stakeholders, survivors of suicide/mental issues and dedicated individuals to help our teenage brothers and sisters to fight this battle and help save mothers from these overflowing tears shed day in and out over lost lives. Familiarize ourselves with signs of depression and suicide as well as measures to take in preventing so many teenage deaths reported. In doing all this, we need to remind ourselves that it should not hit our homes first before we can lend a helping hand and take action because it takes a village to raise a child. My name is Phindile Sibiya and I challenge you to dedicate a few seconds of your life to read and understand anything pertaining to the topic at hand and go out there to make a difference in a young girl/boys life. Let us all stand up and say #NoToTeenageSuicide My greatest appreciation goes to the Awuzweke crew for welcoming me into their family, I certainly hope for a great stay both with them and our readers. BACKS FAM After reading this article, you will realise that you have not been looking after your back for a very long time and you will admit that MjojoLivity deserves good things in life. Because it is in our nature to go out on the streets to find help for you, MjojoLivity invited physiotherapist Jozade who will be telling us on how to care for our backs. Most may know that poor back care can lead to different types of back and neck pain.
Before we go further, you need to understand that the back is made up of bones, ligaments, muscles and nerves and its primary role is to support the body by enabling it to carry its structures. Should back care not be done properly for longer periods of time, these structures become weak and fatigued, thus resulting in burning or sharp back pain, headaches and muscle spasm. Most people blame it on “stress when experiencing these symptoms, but again it could be something more serious. Jozade indicated that the best way for one to take care of their back is to always maintain correct posture and do routine back exercises. The fundamental rules of maintaining good posture are; the head must be positioned in the middle above the shoulders, chin tucked in, shoulders should be level and not slumped, mid back should be straight and not slumped forward and the hips should be in line with the shoulders. Now go on and practice. You guys need to know that high heeled and hard heeled shoes are not recommended for long
durations of times, do not stand in one position for prolonged periods and do not bend your back or neck when working in low positions. When sitting, do not slump-sit (this is that pose some guys do when they are driving), and do not sit for long periods of time without standing.
Now let us take it to the bedroom, I know you have been waiting for this part. We are being advised that our pillows must support our heads and neck in a natural position, change positions frequently, sleep in a balanced position. Your mattress must not be a titanic. I wonder who taught humans all these positions they do in the bedroom, but asikholapho. If you happen to suffer from back and neck pain, do not worry, Jozade recommends that you do exercises to release muscle spasms. You may also apply a warm compression over the affected area, pain killers may help but you are being advised to see your healthcare provider should the symptoms persist. Physiotherapists are there to help you release those muscle spams and make sure you are pain free, I know this because my physiotherapist once helped me, and again she is quiet a looker which I think added to my speedy recovery. Soska shows how talent and passion equal to not giving up A talented rapper and songwriter, Siyasanga Mjindi well-known as Soska was born in one of the biggest provinces in South Africa, Eastern Cape in Ladyfrere now residing in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. He takes pride in his language and does his music in Xhosa and English. Since 15 years of age, Soska joined the music industry and is not planning on giving up his dream of being one of the best artists in South Africa and globally. Although at an early age there is school to focus on, this young determined artists ensured that he does not place either his academics or his music in jeopardy. He had no management prior to him joining Key Royal Communications. Soska explained that music had always been what he wanted to do and he never imagined himself venturing into any career besides music. “Music has always been my first love and second love,” Soska said. To show his surrounding that he is serious about music he released his first album labelled Touch is Move which was local in his community. His first album was named Touch is Move because he was promising himself and those around him that he will not back down from what he started or rather give up on the journey he decided to drive in till he
becomes who he wants to be. He magnified “in music there are rules which were meant not to be broken I made an agreement with my heart that I won’t back down I have to finish what I started,” said the rapper, Soska. Management was one of the issues that dragged him back in his dream career, the first album lacked management but that did not drag him down as he had made the promise to himself that he will not back down. Faith drove him to continue with music even though he lacked management. He also explained that at first he did music for the love he had for it and did not think much about monetising his talent. Soska wants to write his own songs because he feels that he needs to express his own emotions and not have a ghost-writer writing his music. “The best tool to convey messages is to give your fans what comes from your heart,” he said. He is well-known for his single, Lotto which he explains, “Lotto was written to inspire men and to Educate people about being father figure and being unemployed the struggle that it come with, that the community should understand that some fathers as much as they want to support their families but sometimes they are left no choice to leave their families if they disrespected by their partners.”

Apart from Lotto, Nyawo Zam and Escape are some of his songs which he feels are educational. However, Soska said that he writes to educate, motivate and inspire people. His songs “They give hope to the hopeless, love, community struggle,” he said. He realised that his first album did not escalate to the level he expected it to be at and searched for assistance, he then signed with Key Royal Communications. After he joined Key Royal Communications for, he released an album 100% Kokotela in 2014 which was his second album since he decided to venture into the music industry. His songs have circulated on a few radio stations but he claims that he and his team are working on it. For him to continue rapping and writing his songs even through hardship he draws his motivation from his family, “especially my mother who fully supports my music,” Soska said. With the support he gets and his personal motivation he hopes to see himself as “one of the most recognised artists in the country and seeing my music changing lives for the positive and the best,” he said, and unlike when he before – when he only did rap for the love of it – to his list of dream achievements he added that he sees himself as, “as [a] business man.” Currently, Soska is working on his music and also works for a bakery brand and also does community works to show that he cares for himself and the community he lives in. To all his fans he says, “You are different, god has a purpose for you and you alone be appreciative of every opportunity you get in life.” He also shared his favourite quote, “You only live once, make every moment memorable,” of which the original author is unknown. The challenges he faced never dragged him down and regardless of how hard it may get he believes it will, at some point, pay off as he wants it to. This talented Xhosa rapper is ready to get his feet on the plane that will take him and his career to the next level. By Boitumelo Kgobotlo

How to get to stand o 22
t your brand out in 2018 23
It is usually not an impossible task to promote your company or brand, in most cases it is just a matter of posting an advertisement on the right platform and hope for the best thereafter. STOP! It is 2018 and there is no longer time for guesswork when it comes to your brand. By now you should understand the value of your brand and what your customers are looking for when it comes to the service or product you offer. The last five years has seen a major shift in marketing, more specifically digital marketing. As a small business owner, your responsibility is to keep enlightenedof some of these changes in marketing as this is the differentiating factor between you and your competitors. Keen to know more? In this article I plan to outline some of the trends you want to familiarise yourself with as this will most certainly assist your business’ bottom line, not immediately of course, but with time and practice it will. As a digital marketer, I am occasionally overwhelmed at all the trends there are in marketing that I need to know and know well, so that I can add the value to my clients. However, in most cases, some of these tactics and activities are redundant and can become quite repetitive. My job is to make sure that I know what works and what does not, and this allows me to maximise on my marketing efforts for my clients. In this article I have outlined what I believe will be some of the core focuses for this year. Let us explore what the marketing-sphere has in store for your business in 2018.
1. Facebook and its algorithm change in 2018. This is a major one for social media marketing. You might ask what that is. Yup, that is exactly what I mean when I say there is no longer time for guesswork when it comes to your marketing. Knowledge is power, they say, (Still trying to figure out who
24
they are). Anyway, back to the point, Facebook’s computer algorithm evaluates all posts on its platform from its approximately 1.37 billion active users per day around the world. This means that your brand pages posts are highly unlikely to be seen by the people whom you are targeting. The algorithm gives no opportunity to a post that is not targeted, paid for and does not promote engagement with your likely audience. This makes it difficult for your brand to stand out if you are using Facebook as a marketing tool. So, what is the solution you might wonder? Well, this year, you are going to have to learn to actively pursue and engage your audience through content to promotes engagement. Posting about your company no longer works, but posting about what your audiences needs are will! Oh, and most importantly you must pay for your posts if you really want maximum exposure for your well planned, well thought out post.
2. Video marketing is going huge this year! I stress that point! As a brand, it is imperative that you get to grips with this form or digital marketing. 2017 has seen a rise in social media video posts and this has proven to increase engagement organically. Noticed the amount of video clips coming up on your news feed more often than other traditional posts? That is because social networks now favour this form of marketing.
As a small business owner, this nothing to fret about. You most likely have a smartphone and only need to familiarise yourself with an app that will do the job for you. There are some apps from your app store which are free. You only need to search ‘Video editor or Video maker’ and get shooting. No need to be an expert.
3. Facebook live is about to blow up
in 2018. Think you have what it takes to go live on social media? Digital marketing stats show that this form of marketing for your brand will almost certainly help improve engagement and develop brand awareness which could ultimately lead to people buying from you. You might be thinking, ‘how am I going to afford the tools needed to do amazing Facebook live videos?’ The answer is simple, you only need a great smartphone and a setting. Like seriously, it does not get better than that to be creative this year. Starting might be your only stumbling block. Get over this factor and watch your brand grow on live video feeds. Your audience will become accustomed to your posts and will start looking forward to it.
This content will favour their timelines based on their previous engagement with it, making it more likely for them to share with their friends and family members. Being original is what this tool is all about. Take your audience on a tour of your office and introduce them to your staff even. As social beings, we love this kind of interaction. 4. Brand interaction. Now, it is already a common practice to engage your audience via brand activations. The difference this year is about getting your customers to not only interact with your brand but also getting them to experience it. What am I talking about? Renting a space in a mall with some branded items to identify you is not going to work
anymore, in fact, it’s downright annoying. However, by introducing digital content on digital platforms that are visually engaging and getting customers to use their senses to experience your brand is how you will get your brand to stand out this year. Now I have highlighted this example to make a point, however, this is where your creative genius will have to take over this way you don’t have to break the bank. Simple, creative out of the box thinking need not cost you money and again, as social beings, we love this. Seeing your business as a brand in 2018 will almost certainly help up develop a love for actively wanting to market it. Brands exist to make people’s lives better. By understanding what it takes to better the lives of your potential customers, means that you commit to pursue what it takes to turn your business into a brand that people want to interact and engage with. This is how you get your brand to stand out in 2018. A brand is not just a logo, a website or your business card… It’s an experience. - Author Unknown.

BRAZILIAN FOO TOWN
Jansen Van De Valt is a 25-year-old football administrator from Middleburg in Mpumalanga. With numerous sporting credentials under his belt, the life skills coach runs one of the best football academy in the country which he operates in the township of Mhluzi, he named it Tedrabrazil. WHICH QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU UPHOLD? I’ve got a SAFA B licence, which is equivalent to CAF B licence. I recently got my Scottish CA, under the SAFA association and my Brazilian futsal, level one and two, my football physicology, sports management, football nutrition football analysing of soccer matches and opposition scouting, and player scouting as well. So yes, I’ve got a whole lot of mix bag qualifications in the football development which is what we need in South Africa.
WHAT IS TETRABRAZIL? Tetrabrazil Soccer Schools is a football development academy providing players with authentic Brazilian based coaching, focusing on techniques and tactics that have helped to mould some of the world’s best players. We’re also a player development tool, philosophy of quick passing, quick moving and teaching the young ones of how Brazilian football is played which also suites our style and of course skill wise we’ve got some interesting fun factors we blend with our football.
WHY BRAZILIAN SOCCER? Different styles of soccer are played all over the world, Brazilians tend to play the ball out of the back with shorter, fast and secure passes, often switching the point of attack quickly. Brazilians also spend more time training on skills than probably any other nation. Tetrabrazil then mixes conventional soccer and futsal to encourage technical development,
26
teaching players to control the ball, keep it on the ground at their feet and make sure someone is ready to receive the ball when it is passed.
WHAT IS GK ICON? GK Icon is a goalkeeping programme from England where Richard Lee, former England U/21 goalkeeper is the owner. He also serves as a goalkeeper assistant in the England national team, working with shot stoppers like Ben foster and Joe Hart. We don’t have much goalkeeping academies in the country and that is why we’re not producing good goalkeepers in the country. So, yes it’s a big programme with several franchises around the country and we start working with kids between the ages of 5-6 years.
WHEN DID YOU ACQUIRE THESE TWO PROGRAMMES? I brought the Tetrabrazil to South Africa in 2015, then the following year in 2016 I started with GK Icon.
WHAT DROVE YOU TO IMPLEMENT THESE PROGRAMMES IN THE TOWNSHIP? Football and the township goes together, we can never separate the two. I can set up camps everywhere but being in the township is where my passion lies, bringing this programme to the township was the best decision I’ve ever made and I enjoy working with township kids. The reason I chose to implement this programme in the township is the desire and hunger these players poses.
OTBALL IN THE NSHIP departments, all I want is to see the young ones I coach succeed and make it to a professional level. All I want is to produce stars.
HOW DO YOU SPOT A TALENTED PLAYER?
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACE WORKING IN THE TOWNSHIP? There are challenges we are facing like age cheating factor and some players who can’t attend training due to transport constraints but we’re dealing with that. In life we can overcome every challenge by working hard and put your head to it.
WHAT’S YOUR OPINION ON FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT IN THE COUNTRY? I’d say that we do not track players development, by that I mean we don’t go out to the townships to look for talent. We don’t have enough initiatives like that, which I believe is what we need in the country and lack of competition for the younger age groups is also holding us back.
First of all the player must have confidence, the game of football has evolved and players need to be clever, he should be able to run into good spaces and their decision making must also be on point. Another important aspect in the game nowadays is the nutrition as a player you must look after yourself and take care of your body.
WHAT’S YOUR ULTIMATE GOAL? Yes, that’s very important as a soccer coach, it’s important to have a vision and my vision first is to get my athletes disciplined. Football comes second, I always emphasise the importance of their school work from 08:00 until 14:00, they are normal school kids. Then after that, when they get to the field in the afternoon, they can be superstars and that’s about it. By Gift Tlou
WITH ALL THE BADGES YOU UPHOLD, WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN COACHING SINCE YOU CAN WORK IN OTHER FIELDS? I’ve been offered a job in China, but my passion is really here. I’m not interested in working in other Sourced photo from google

AUZWEKE Poem
A Sweet Sour song Do you ever listen to a song and remember how it all felt the first time you listened to it? I listen to songs playing on the radio And I remember how it was the very first day I listened to it. In order for me to listen I had to be silent And this is how I came to comprehend That with every song playing I remember, I remember, I remember that I can never forget. I can forgive but cannot forget. With every song on the playlist I remember that I can never forget About the first day we ever met I remember like it was just a minute... Ago It was a day of rain And we met in the last coach of the train. Your eyes smiling with mine found the way in to my soul. I remember that first message you send As I qoute a part of it read; “Thank you for today, the heart to heart conversation we had was priceless. “ You and I, together, defined happiness With every song that plays I remember that I cant remember to forget us. With every song that plays I remember that life is a sweet sour song We might aswell sing along. With every song playing on the playlist I remeber excatly how it felt like the first time I listened to it. Like I said; in order for me to listen I had to be silent.

With every song that plays I remember that you are the only person You are the first and last That only one person that makes me feel axcatly the way music makes me feel. Its a feeling of real. You are the soundtrack of my life And like a sweet sour song. I will forever sing to the lyric of the love between you and I. Our love is like a Sade’s sweetest taboo A song that plays me all night long I cant remember to forget That As true as day is light and night is dark I love you and this is true. I remember that song the song that played the first time we met I remember how the song felt like the first time I heard it And the thought of it I cannot Forget! This is our story This is our love song, it is sweet and sour However from then until wherever Come any weather, I will forever sing along to our song. Winter or Summer. UShaka
