AUZWEKE #Ask_IGirls

AT WHAT POINT DOES O OF BEING PART OF THE

Society is so quick to judge, how sad is it that we live in a generation where one cannot be out of their box unapologetically and not be labelled, named and judged. When we grow up we are mostly encouraged to be comfortable in our own skin, be true to ourselves and never be apologetic for being you because if you are not true to yourself the world will do as it pleases with you.

What a contradiction of words as opposed to actions, how far long are we going to carry on with what is commonly known as “Pull Me Down Syndrome”? When are we going to wake up one morning and decide to stop being judgemental and accept that we may be of the same world, but we are not the same and this is what births the question of “What is Rainbow nation”. At what point exactly is one considered to be within the expectations or rather the attributes of a rainbow nation, because one explores and enjoys their unique sexuality we judge, a person decides to use their own story to better the next life we reject them based on their history, one gets into an interracial relationship and they get themselves a one way ticket to being crucified and yet the world is filled with so many individuals preaching “Happiness is an inside job, be free in your own skin”. One may agree that yes it is an inside job and yes you cannot go around internalizing everything everyone says, but it does to an extent have an effect if a person gets judged based on another person’s limited

14

knowledge instead of asking to be educated so the circle can be ongoing and information about what we consider taboo can be broken, maybe that would be a simplified version of accepting each other in the “Rainbow nation”. We all have a story to tell and each is one is unique, the least we can do for each other is to accept, uplift and build instead of breaking each other, it cannot be that difficult now can it? One of the world’s greatest poets the late Dr Maya Angelou said “My life has been one great joke, a dance that’s walked, a song that’s spoke, I laugh so hard I almost choke when I think about myself”. Take a second to imagine how much of a better place the world would be if we were to listen to a person’s story and say “You inspire me, how did you move past it?” as opposed to listening and deciding that “It is their fault they found themselves in that position/ situation” and it is ok for us to judge and discriminate them. The world is filled with so many heartbroken, destroyed and scared souls because one never knows whether it is ok or not to speak out, because society is so quick to judge and crucify.

S ONE FIT THE CRITERIA HE RAINBOW NATION? We live in an era where conforming is more important because we want to feed the hunger of fitting in and that is only because if you choose to be different, you are likely to be a loner as decisions about you will be made based on your differences. The issue here is not being different though, the issue is the inability of society to accept that each of us has their own journey to travel and we have each other to make it bearable not unbearable.

“We sometimes think that poverty is only being hungry, homeless and naked. But the poverty of being unwanted, unloved, uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our homes to remedy this kind of poverty” said the late Mother Teressa. This kind of poverty is the one that makes us to leave our homes and feed off other peoples sorrow and hurt, whereas if we could remedy it early it would be easy to accept each other as flawed as we are when we are far from our homes and in that regard the many scarred people would not be embarrassed to wear their scars with pride, rather than hide them to accommodate those who will with a blink of an eye label and crucify them. A lot of women are sexually violated and humiliated and the moment they finally decide to break out of the caving in hole about their pain and express their hurt, the world sometimes tends to protect and defend the violator leaving the victim/ survivor more torn than the day they were violated. Society has somewhat become comfortable with the fact that dressing to the level of body comfort is wrong as it is perceived as luring

rapists to violate women rights because of they were dressed in a “Seductive manner”, yet we still consider ourselves to be living in a “Rainbow nation”. How then are we a rainbow nation when one cannot be as colourful and free as they want without being scared?

Another writer/poet Mzilikazi wa Afrika said “You can’t mislead a person who knows his way home but you can easily fool anyone who does not know where they going”. The time has come for us to find our way home and be sure about it, this will probably eradicate the manner in which we break each other down as individuals. Let us give each other a chance to be great regardless of our stories, let us believe that each of us posses a form of greatness that stands a chance of bettering the next individuals life rather than using it as a weapon of mass destruction. Let us bring back the true concept of the rainbow nation and give honour to the lives lost fighting for it at the least. Let us be a generation that supports, protects and uplift one another, let us work on doing away with repelling and rejecting each other based on our scars because they do not determine our future or define the people we are. Our scars are just there as a reminder of a phase in life we once went through, they may not hold much of the fort if we can try and overlook them, see an individual for who and what they are as opposed to what they have been through. LIES! LIES! & LIES Correcting misconceptions on tuberculosis (TB).

People lie all the time. Like, there are those people who thrive on lies. You have probably been lied to on many occasions. Some lies were obvious, but others got you sold. Sometimes you will be minding your business and then someone just phones you just to lie to you. It happens. People even go to an extent of lying about serious issues like tuberculosis (TB). Oh well, for some it may be a result of being misinformed, while others just want to appear smart in public by saying things they have no clue of.

March 2018 is TB awareness month and MjojoLivity would like to dedicate its caring nature towards enlightening the public more about tuberculosis by addressing misconceptions surrounding tuberculosis. I will be riding on this one solo because people were unavailable during the month of February due to baecations and other related obvious reasons. I really do not mind; health awareness is my spilion!

16

S! EVERYWHERE! Before I get right into it I would like you to understand that TB is an infectious disease caused by germs (Bacteria) that are spread from person to person through the air. There are people under the impression that “TB runs in the family”. This is not true at all, one cannot inherit TB. TB is not a disease related to the genetic makeup of a person. A family member can transmit TB to his or her family by coughing out TB infected droplets in the air. Now can we stop this culture of labeling people as “TB families.” “There is no cure for TB”. Wow, I could not believe it when I heard this statement in 2018. nevertheless, I am not here to judge nor express my savage views. My role is to educate and raise awareness. First of all, there is treatment available for TB. The regimen line of one’s treatment is determined by their overall state of health and the progression of disease. The South African department of health does provide free TB testing and treatment at its health establishments so therefore, there is no excuse for not seeking treatment now that you know the truth. I do not blame those who believe that “TB only occurs in the lungs”. Pulmonary (Lung) TB is the most common type of TB people acquire. The TB infection can sip into the bloodstream then spread to other areas in the body. Should this happen, one may find themselves having TB infection in parts like their; brain, spine, bones, intestines and skin. This usually occurs in complicated untreated cases. Why is it that When one has TB people assume that they HIV positive as well? Most people like saying “TB is for people living with HIV”. I find this statement very

discriminating and offensive. Fact of the matter is that anyone with a compromised immune system can contract TB. Did you know even a minor cold and flu may put you at risk of acquiring TB? Again, do you know that even a diet that fails to meet your nutritional needs may weaken your immune system and leave an open door for TB bacteria in your body? Well now you know. Those who think TB is for HIV positive people together with those who say “TB is for poor people” belong in the same WhatsApp group. TB is in the air, and I mean the air which everyone breathes. “rich” people do not breath flavoured nor bottled air. They breath the same air that is available to everyone and which unfortunately contains TB bacterium. In other words, your bank balance does not provide immunity of some sort. TB lives in the environment we are all part of and you may contract it if you inhale TB infected particles.

@Auzweke across all platforms and the same for @MasondoLtd. Last but not least here Is the most dangerous one, “You can stop TB treatment when you start feeling better”. Nizofa yaz… let me correct you, one needs to take their TB treatment as prescribed by their health provider and for however long you have been advised. The early termination of treatment results in the TB bacteria mutating and becoming resistant to treatment. In simple terms, the initial TB drugs that were prescribed for you won’t work. Thank you again for supporting yet another issue of MjojoLivity. By now you know we will not let people lie to you, we will keep you informed about your health and make sure you are living a “botepu” life, #AUZWEKE. By Sphiwe Masondo

The most known common symptoms of TB are a 6-week-long continuous cough, night sweats, loss of appetite, massive weight loss, and coughing greenish thick sputum (sometimes bloodstained). I would like to applaud the South African department of health which through the past years have been educating the public about these symptoms. However, there are those who think that, “You don’t have TB if you don’t have symptoms”. Remember we said that TB does not only occur in the lungs. So, the best way to find out whether you have TB is by getting tested. You need to ask your local clinic or health provider for information on this. I would do it now but let us just stick to the point. We can continue this subject on our social media platforms which are:

what it takes ntrepreneur?

When things get tough entrepreneurs are likely to ask themselves if they can afford to be entrepreneurs. I have also asked myself that question and sometimes my answer was a resounding “No!”

You might think that you have it all together: your plan, vision, stashed cash, business and marketing plans are complete all that is left is to take control of this new ship and steer her into the horizon of destiny – until the stormy waves come that is. This article is most certainly not written with the intention of discouraging my reader but to inspire and encourage. You see entrepreneurship is as they say: ‘not for everyone’ but for those who choose this journey, reward is inevitable. Now smile! People who set out to become entrepreneurs are people who set out to change the world and this is the reason I believe they say: ‘it’s not for everyone’. When Steve Jobs decided to create the iPhone, he was inspired by what he foresaw. That the worlds mobile technology would get smaller and smaller and this piece of tech would need to comprise of all the attributes of a home computer or laptop (which contained all your personal music, photos, documents and videos) and a mobile device. What he envisioned was three devices that would marry into one device, the iPod, MacBook and mobile phone and he created the iPhone. And mind you, he was a computer engineer whose passion to help the world saw him become not only one of the greatest marketers but also one of the greatest

22

entrepreneurs we have seen to date, confirming Apple as the wealthiest company in the world right now. Another amazing entrepreneur whom we all know, Mark Zuckerberg who created Facebook from his university dorm room set out to connect people to each other who once had some form of relationship but were disconnected because of life instances, where these people were separated from one another. Mark’s intent was never to make money but to resolve a need via a digital platform, which he knew how to create, of connecting people online. He used a skill or a gift that he developed to create this platform and it has seen him become one of the world’s greatest entrepreneurs. He is most certainly not the founder of social networking, but has most certainly revolutionised social networking turned social media which we now pay for making him one of the wealthiest men on the planet. What both these entrepreneurs have in common was a desire to help their fellow man and not themselves. And yes, some would say, they had opportunity on their side and that is a fair statement to make. But it would be unfair to judge them based on opportunity when dedication, commitment and belief was almost certainly the reason they were successful.

To clarify this point, I would like to refer to evangelist,n motivational speaker, author and entrepreneur Nick Vujicic who was born without any limbs. No arms or legs, no opportunity at all but developed a mindset of belief very early on in his life and is now a very successful man who is also a father and world renowned author with more than eight published books and a best seller: Life without limits. Vujicic’s mindset to see past his own limitations has ignited a passion in him that has helped millions of people around the world to get over anxieties, fears and limitations they believe they have through his motivational talks and published books which people are prepared to and do pay for. And this, my good reader, is how these individuals have managed to thrive as entrepreneurs. By realising a need people have and desiring to meet that need. This desire is what spurs them on and on and keeps the individual going, never mind the challenges or circumstances they face. These people adopt a mindset of ‘belief’ very early on in the process of entrepreneurship and this mindset is what sets them apart from average and sees them achieve great success in life. Entrepreneurship is not a talent or something you need to have experience in to be successful at it. No, it is a desire to meet a need and decision to commit to that cause no matter the cost. I believe that anyone who really wants to be an entrepreneur can become one. Everyone is born with a gift or two or more, this gift becomes talent when it is worked on and developed. If you think that you are not capable

of becoming an entrepreneur, then unfortunately you have probably already failed. You have just told yourself subconsciously that “I am not prepared to develop and work at this so therefore I am not an entrepreneur.” Being a Christian, I am motivated by my saviour Jesus who taught people to be great entrepreneurs through commitment, dedication and belief. He told a disciple by the name of Peter to let down his fishing net again, after Peter had just spent the whole night fishing and had caught nothing. Peter being perplexed by this request reluctantly let down his net at the say so of Jesus and caught a boat sinking, net breaking amount of fish. Peter worked hard all night, was dedicated to catching fish as a fisherman and committed to remaining in his boat so that he could try again after failing, along with belief he was certain of victory. If you think you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur, then become one. But know this, thinking you have what it takes is not enough, you must commit to the process, be dedicated through the journey and finally believe you can do it.

BOXING HARDER South Africans number one Middle weight champion, Alfonso Tissen, is known for his tremendous boxing techniques inside the boxing ring. But little did we know the hardships that sharpened the 25 year old, in this frank interview with Auzweke’s Gift Tlou, Alfonso shares undisclosed insight into his life. Growing up in a boxing orientated family, it’s no surprise that Tissen became a professional boxer himself. “My family really loved the sport of boxing, all my uncles and my father played boxing as well” Growing up with his cousins, who were boys they decided to join an amateur boxing gym, which is where he’s passion for boxing developed even more. “That’s when I met a lot of coaches and I decided I want to pursue boxing as a career and by the virtue of god I’ve made it” he states. Although boxing turned out to be his number one love, the boxer was quite a sportsmen growing up. “I was a decent swimmer in school, I did really well and I also played soccer my position was right back in football”. “As time went on I decided that I’ll stick with being a boxer for me this has always been the ultimate sports where it’s only two men in the ring battling it out” Says Alfonso.

UNSETTLED UPBRINGING Although Alfonso had an active childhood in the sporting circles, things weren’t looking up back home” I grew up with my grandparents because my parents were both on cocaine” he reveals. “So I had to go stay with my grandparents until I turned 16 old, they passed away “he recollects. With his father being to different rehabilitation programmes due to drug abuse, the boxer says his father still had a positive influence in he’s upbringing and boxing career. “I couldn’t picture my life without my father, he is the loudest voice in the crowd when I fight”. 24

“I really enjoy having him around despite everything we’ve been through and by the grace of god we’re still standing together”.

LIFE OF A PROFESSIONAL BOXER Keeping shape and always being ready for fights requires a lot of determination, resilience and strength. “we’re up by 04:00am and by 05:00am I’m already on the road, doing some road work, we run about 10km which takes about an hour and by 06:00am I’m back then I’ll just have a smoothie and rest, at around 10:00am I’m back at gym working on my boxing” Alfonso explains. “During the day I continue working on my stretching and fitness, later at 16:00pm I return to the gym, so that we can work on my conditioning and so that we can focus on some areas of the game, speed, conditioning and fitness levels, basically it’s a full time job, with training three times a day”. Waking up every day to train and complete such strenuous activities can do damage to one’s body, Alfonso singles out sparring (when two boxers help develop each other’s skills by practicing real boxing moves in a real boxing environment) as one difficult training activity they endure.

“At this level of my boxing career the sparring is intense, there’s a guy I’m currently sparring with, it’s difficult, and we’re both preparing for fights”. “It gets really heated at times, I’m beating on the guy and he’s doing the same and our bodies go through a lot, I’m talking the pain on the wrist, sore ribs, elbows and hands so waking up every day to go through such really needs a tough a character”. Despite the unbearable training activities they engage in on a daily the 26 year old is fortunate enough to have proper training equipment and being trained by one of the best coaches in Coach Gert Strydom.” I’ve got the best gym facilities, there’s a place for me to sleep upstairs, we’ve got the latest training equipment’s, boxing bags, gloves and everything a boxer could dream off and world renowned coach,in Gert “AKA” coach G” he asserts.

(Daniella Mitchell) and I are expecting a baby girl and to be quite honest that has become my biggest inspiration lately, and we’ve decided that we’ll name her Harmony Rose, my father and coaches also inspire me” he concedes. In conclusion Alfonso adds that one of his biggest goals is to obtain titles in the (WBC) World boxing council. By Gift Tlou

A MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION Along his impressive record in the boxing ring, Alfonso boasts 9 wins in 10 games so far in his professional career, with that being said he up holds the ABU title and being the current holder of the Middleweight champion in S/A . “Being a champion is great but it comes with a lot of pressure, you’ve got to remain focused and sad thing is that nobody wants to fight me, but I’m moving to super middleweight now and I’m hoping to get more action”. Say’s Alfonso. The boxer is scheduled for a fight in Malaysia with Azizbek Abdugofurov in the near future. “It’s a big fight, I’m really working hard and I’m sure that I’ll pull an upset and beat the guy for south Africa, my family and coaches” he promises. With his opponent ranked 34th in the world rankings a win will see Alfonso move a 100th spot since he’s ranked 134th. When asked about his daily inspiration the boxing star chuckles, before announcing that he’s going to be a father soon. “My partner

AUZWEKE Poem

Beauty with no stain On sleepless nights I look at the time It’s 3 hours after midnight. I go deep into the corridors of my thoughts. I finally find that after all this time, You are the one that’s keeping me awake. I really need a break! From aloof I zoom the moon. Suddenly I feel this sudden soul maneuver Consciously the unconscious becomes conscious. I feel each and every tear that dropped I hear each sound of my weeping While my mouth covered. Trying not to make any sound I don’t want to get any body up... I remember each and everything Like it happened today. I dugg deeper into my thoughts. Making a way to break away, I lost myself along the way Bear in mind I never gave up anyway. In the process of losing myself I found myself.. I started to realize that it was never actually about you. All along it has been about me It was me Not only me but the inner me. the ener-G, the inner God that gives life to the temple inside. I was never a victim, I am Victoria Victoriously victory is all I know. All my spirit does is win. Beauty with no stain.

30

Suddenly I feel this strong connection Inside My body. This connection is out of this spectrum. I lost my unconsciousness in the 6th dimension. Get the memorundum Now I am on mode Indigo, Wherever the spirit is leading My body is ready for soul ĂŠlĂŠvation I am ready to go, I am ready to float. Beauty with no stain I gain power through the pain. See I am not afraid to let it burn. Some women get burned by the fire But I am made out of the fire. Its my state of ignition Like the phoenix I die a little to live again. I am that beauty with no stain I have everything inside of me to gain. My ancestors guides me We are connected they never forget they never left me. I know the power of the spirit. When some say they are the superiors, When some say they are the natives, and when some say they are the chosen people. I do not care what you call yourself, I am the original people. A substitute could never be better than the original. I am the cosmic blueprint I am the beauty with no stain! O Shaka
