Thami Shobede’s rise to fame took course when he was on the top two of SouthAfrican musical competition, Idols SA. Unfortunately, he did not win the competition but that did not stop him from pursuing his dreams. Currently, he has his own album and is definitely continuing to escalate in the music industry. His first studio album, titled ‘Never Lost’ is already making waves. Being an individual that is inspired by the inferior challenges that he experienced while growing up, he overcame these challenges and stood up to claim his throne in the industry. Mahlangu proves just how talent makes one succeed. Currently, he has his own album and is definitely continuing to escalate in the music industry. His first studio album, titled ‘Never Lost’ is already making waves. Being an individual that is inspired by the inferior challenges that he experienced while growing up, he overcame these challenges and stood up to claim his throne in the industry. Now, in 2017, he is signed with renowned record label, Gallo Music, Thami has penetrated the industry and has claimed his own throne as being the King of South African RnB music. An opportunity had been granted to exclusively interview Thami about Idols South Africa, challenges he faced in the industry and his future plans. This is what he had to say:

THE LIFE OF THAMI BEFORE IDOLS SOUTH AFRICA Idols South Africa paved your career. What were you doing before Idols South Africa? Before Idols I was employed as a flag man at Transnet for three years and I had just received a learnership and was meant to graduate this year in May. I was also a musician on the side doing countless collabo’s with DJ’s on the rise to fame.

TOP TWO BUT THAT DID NOT KILL MY PASSION

You made top two at the South African Idols. How did that make you feel? Did you think that you would even make it to top two? 8

I never thought I would make it to top two. I did not even think I was going to make top 10, let alone top 16 and when I made it into the top 10, I just closed my eyes and pushed all the way to the top three without knowing that I was going to make the final, a hopeful waiting to be crowned. I am proud however of how far I had come. I am still in belief that I made it so far on a music reality competition in my country and this is something only my childhood dream was about. I never thought it would be my reality one day.

2017 - ALBUM RELEASED

You are with Gallo Music and you recently released your album. What makes it different? My album is all about LOVE. My life growing up was filled with a lot of pain and negativity. I was hated by a lot of people that were entrusted to take care of me as a child growing up. This album is a reflection of the love I have been receiving from my supporters and loyal fans. Its more reflective of their love and them being 70% of females I had to make it an album that addresses love and the beauty of women that support me.

EACH AND EVERY INDUSTRY HAS HURDLES.

How do you find the music industry? Were there any challenges that you faced in the industry? A lot of doors have been and closed in my face so many times. I am not new to rejection and that is why even though there are struggles I face as a newcomer in the industry I am still pushing to get to where I believe I belong; to be legend.

IF I HAD FIVE MILLIONS...

If you had five million Rand. What three things that you would do? I would buy my family a 2,5 million house, invest 1,5 million somewhere for my sisters, give R500 000 to charities in rural KZN and the rest of South Africa. I would utilise the rest to further my music career.

I DRAW MY INSPIRATION FROM..

There is probably that one individual that inspired you throughout your music career. Who would you say Inspires you on a daily? I am inspired by a lot of talented and renowned musicians, the likes of Vusi Nova, Ringo, Jabu Khanyile (May His Soul Rest In Eternal Peace) and Ntando amongst a few.

WHEN I WAS ON IDOLS. I LEARNT..

What did you learn on your Idols journey? What perception did you get about the music industry? Idols was very instrumental in telling us as contestants how good and how bad the industry can be and I have seen both sides of it, lucky for me the industry has been very good to me thus far.

NEW SINGLE RELEASE. ‘NIGHT AND DAY’ THE NEXT NATIONAL ANTHEM.

You just released your brand new song titled ‘Night and Day’ Mind giving us an insight about this song? What is discrepant about it? My Follow up single “Night and Day” has a lot of work to be done because the first single was a hit to my audience. The video is going to be released on all music channels that support good South African music. I am truly hoping it does become an anthem. I would love to be the next in line to have a hit single and album.

BAGGED SOME NEW DEALS. THE INDUSTRY IS ABOUT TO CHANGE.

Is there anything that your fans can anticipate from you the next year? Next year people can expect more of my work and hopefully 2018 becomes the year where I get to explore a new talent and platform. I want to be a multi trick ponny because I know that could sustain me longer in the industry.

Reason De Friend the Mahlangu proves just how talent makes one succeed released an album. Reaching the year 2012, the name and the skill had grown big enough that “one of the songs reached number one spot on Traxsource,” the self-taught producer, Mahlangu said.

The 26-year-old Herman Mahlangu well known as Reason De Friend for reasons related to his days back in high school, has been tricking life and its challenges by using his talent, not qualifications, to be who he is. The career of music production started back in 2008 when Mahlangu was only 17, minding that at the time there were effective challenges such as peer pressure, school work and many others, he did not let any of the challenges jeopardise his love for music production. By the year 2010, the producer had

He fell into music production because he had felt that the industry needed some new musical ideas, ideas that would close up the gap that he had noticed in deep house music, that is what drove him to the industry. “It’s all passion,” said Mahlangu. His passion is drawn from “listening to music and paying attention to the detail of the composition,” he said. Although he feels that he had not filled the gap he wants to close, he also believes that eventually he will, he said that he is slowly filling it in. At the beginning of the music production career, Mahlangu was working with his friend Mosa Shabele well known as Soulsash, they went by the name Sherzo Africa. However, they had differences in what they really wanted to do and they had to separate. Mahlangu stated that the separation did not affect their friendship as they are still friends to this day.

e self-taught producer Before Soulsash and Mahlangu faded their duo, Mahlangu had stopped doing his work. “I stopped producing and when I returned in the music business we were doing different styles of house sub-genres and it was irrelevant to continue as a duo,” he said. “Our management ripped us off,” Mahlangu explained why he had stopped producing music, moreover, he thinks that the management ripped them off because by the age of 17 they were a bit vulnerable and not yet exposed to what the industry is really about. At the starting age of his music production, they had experienced problems such as unreasonable managements, “club promotions…, we had to pay mastering and mixing from our own pockets,” Mahlangu said. Mahlangu is vibrant and full of energy, better known for his jokes and humanity to others. He exposed himself

to more than one opportunity that came his way. Other than music production, he started an architectural work which he branded Herman Spaces and also manages events; his events work is branded Kogae Experience. Having to take one, he states that he would remain with “Architecture” which he even added the heart symbol to tell just how much he loves it. “Architecture is my talent, it comes natural and it has a good income,” Mahlangu added. Age does not determine the number of jobs one can handle, this 26-year-old handles three which are self-taught. South African youth can also notice that talent can take one places. The young vibrant man prominently known for his music production, events management and architectural work has been allowing no obstacles to hinder him from getting where he wants to be. How can girls succeed at an early age? Older people would tell young girls that they are lucky because they now have opportunities to study and become what and who they want.

Success does not begin at a certain specific age, it starts when a child gets dreams of who she wants to be as in the career they would like to follow and that is why it is important that every young person gets the opportunity to know about the careers available.

Kombelani Makamu, a student at Rosebank College stated that girls should study hard so to get to their dreams. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Be sure to have more than one career choice,â&#x20AC;? said Makamu. Having a Plan B when deciding for the future is important because if it happens that Plan A does not work there is a back-up plan, this will reduce disappointments and one will know that there is something else they can do.

Digital divide however, is still an existing issue as some people cannot access the internet, parts of the country cannot connect to networks, this means that people staying there cannot access the internet, if they want to they can visit places that have network connection. Others though, cannot afford digital devices such as a phone, laptop or tablet. They then have to work harder to get to be known in the corporate world.

Makamu also magnified that if one finds a subject challenging they should try at best to get to understand it before exams, this may be through the attendance and partaking in study groups, individual sessions with teachers and the help of someone who understands the subject better. There are second chances such as getting a bursary, scholarship, learnership and sponsorship. However, everything as such comes at your hard work because people need to work their way to their dreams. Some are said to be fortunate because of their backgrounds, there is a large tendency to assume that a child from a rich family will most likely get to their dreams easier. If conditions are not the same for you, you can work twice or triple as hard, it will be worth it at the end. Lerato Mashale is a South African student that studies is currently studying in the United Stated of America, she stated that studying abroad was never in her thoughts but it hit her when she got to the plane to America. The young lady would have graduated by now if she had studied in South Africa, “I just kept applying to opportunities referred to by family and friends,” she said. Although she did not take herself seriously in the process she did not give up on applying abroad. There may be complications when applying, especially online because there may be fake websites, one should do a

proper research and ensure that they log on to the correct website. “Believe in yourself and do your research, be careful of scams and scholarships that don’t have your interests in mind and will most likely leave you in debt,” she said. School is very important and one should do career research at an early age so they can have a good idea of what they aim to achieve in life, projects such as Take a Girl Child to Work help girls to have a broad view of career opportunities available. Girls should learn to use what they have to gain what they want, if someone has creative skills they should try to visit a creatives company nearer for job shadowing so that when they finally want to do it themselves they would have got the knowledge they need related to their career choice. Research is very essential, one should research opportunities available towards being what they want to be because there are internal scholarships, even in the country, bursaries, learnerships and many more other opportunities. At just fifteen you would have been thinking about video games but the 15-year-old Mykyle is already souring the music industry with his rather soothing and angelic voice.

Discovered by American artist - CeeLoo Green during the month of December 2014 in Los Angeles, New York City, that is when his career was paved for him and he unapologetically continued to conquer as the youngest successful artist. MYKYLE has worked with various artists and launched his music-career at a Youth Festival where a lot of youth had related with his amazing music.

MYSONGS ARE THOSE THAT DEFINE ME. You have recently launched your EP in June 16, 2017 in the spirit Youth Day. What would you say inspire your music? Did you think it had an effect on the youngsters that you were performing for?

All stage names have a specific meaning to one. Mind giving us a brief background as to how the name Mykyle came about?

My music definitely represents part of my life story and sometimes it’s about what people like me are going through. I think on Youth Day the audience connected more with the vibe and beat of the music than the lyrics as they were hearing it for the first time.

Mykyle is actually my registered birth name. My mom came up with the name which derives from [Micheal] meaning: He who is like God.

In each and every industry there are some hurdles that one encounters. What would you say were some of the hurdles you experienced before penetrating the industry?

THE RESURRECTION OF MYKYLE

You were discovered by CeeLo Green, the most talented American singer/songwriter. How would you say the experience has been with you after being exposed to the industry? The response has been incredible, I am surprised at how quickly my fan base is growing. “See Her” is now playing on 26 radio stations throughout the country within two months. People are very supportive and I am grateful for the opportunities I get everyday. So far, the industry has

been kind to me.

I think the first hurdle was convincing my parents to support my decision to pursue music. I actually had to be patient and persevere with my music until the record label that I am now with signed me to their label and invested in me. At a point last year, I had made the choice to be homeschooled and give up normal schooling because I wanted to focus on my music career.

This was a big change but I overcame that and now I am very happy I made the decision because I get to do what I love and have the flexibility to pursue my dream.

COLLABORATIONS UNDERWAY If you were given a chance to collaborate with anyone in the world who would it be and why? I would like collaborate with Rae Sremmurd & XXXtentacion on a track because I love their music. I would also want Mike Will Made It to be the Producer because I admire his work.

INSPIRATION PROPELS ME TO BE THE GREATEST Every individual is always inspired. Inspiration pushes one to greater dimensions. Who would you say inspires you on a daily and what inspires some of your songs? I am inspired by Rae Sremmurd because of the hard-work they put into their work to become successful. My songs come from certain life experiences that I have.

WORLD HOLD ON, MYKYLE IS ABOUT TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD What can some of your fans

anticipate from you in the future? Is the anything in the pipeline that will blow your fans into space? I think people are going to be blown away by the versatility of my music on the album. There is a little something for everyone. You can expect to see me sing and rap, and people probably won’t expect what is coming but it will blow everyone’s minds, no doubt.

ALBUM UNDERWAY. BETTER BE ON THE LOOKOUT. You are about to release your album. What will make it discrepant? We are looking to release the Album early next year. I am hoping to be break some music stereotypes by bring an electric mix of songs.

Do not ask me why people discuss sensitive personal issues with me, just don’t! “This is becoming a problem; my girlfriend of five months is not the quite type when we are in the bedroom. I get embarrassed when we are out in public because she makes too many sounds and draws attention”. I must admit, this DM from MR @AnonymousReference drew my attention, curiosity killed a cat before, so I was not going to let it slide easily like that because ngy’ ngwenya ye game.

After our discussion, @Anonymous Reference explained that his girlfriend snores significantly at night. He added, “Sometimes she makes that nkum! Nkum! Nkum! Sound so loud that no one can ignore”. He told me that these habits became worse immediately after winter and were accompanied by running nose, nasal congestion with throat and ear itching. Believe you me; at that point, I knew I needed to help our brother, well more especially our “nkum” sister. Yes, while spring is a time for plants to blossom, wedding season and showing off shaved legs, for some people it is the most devastating time of the year. Now, get your minds out of the gutter, Nizofa yaz? Mjojolivity went out in the streets and landed in the capable hands of an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist to seek answers and expert advice for our reference. We met with the baeful DR Maseko, now do not go and slide in his DM’s please. DR Maseko specialises with conditions affecting ears, the nose and throat. He treats cancers and conditions of the neck and is running an allergy clinic, which deals with screening and treatment of allergies. DR Maseko clearly explained that the girlfriend referred to is probably suffering from chronic allergic sinusitis. This is characterised by symptoms like, throat or rather palate itching, postnasal drainage, nasal congestion and frontal headache. He further indicated that snoring may not be associated with this condition but with factors like weight gain and oronasal structural abnormalities. Now, DR Maseko advised that people experiencing these symptoms must not panic. He indicated that all it takes is medicinal treatment and elimination of triggers

(Factors Causing/ aggravating the symptoms); surgery is advised for complicated cases including those with symptoms not responding to medication. Common triggers are; pollen, carpets, cold or dry air, pets, fragrances and dust, He added. Antihistamines and nasal spray are often all it takes to treat the symptoms unless there is evidence of infection, which your health care provider can determine during your visit. Thou shall not take chances, these symptoms may complicate if left untreated. DR Maseko mentioned that they could complicate and become infective then spread to the eyes, the brain and other surrounding structures. You may find yourself with meningitis if you are too ignorant. You might just be starting out or have been in business for years but an important question to ask yourself is, how I am putting my brand out there? Many small business owners are very good at what they do, whatever that is. At some times, they get very complacent with the number of customers or clients they have and so do not really feel the need to market their business any more than what they are currently doing, if they are doing anything at all. When I ask these business owners, “so what are you currently doing to put your brand out there?” The common answer I get is, well we rely on word-of-mouth and referrals and on our flyers. All fairness, that has been a very effective marketing strategy for many years, well, only until a few years ago that is. To depend on these traditional marketing methods today is not going to be a very successful marketing strategy because of something called digital marketing and yes, this is no longer a new thing but you would be surprised as to how many small business owners are not doing it. My business started out as a traditional marketing agency and social media management company, but as time went on I realised that traditional marketing, commonly referred to as Push Marketing, was no longer effective for small business owners. People were no longer interested in what you as a small business owner had to offer them on a flyer or billboard unless you were engaging them more personally. This finding dictated that I change my business model to meet the requirements of what people were looking for. We became a digital marketing agency and focused on helping small business owners accelerate their business growth by developing and implementing digital

marketing strategies. With this transformation, it quickly became apparent that many small business owners knew about this digital transformation in terms of marketing but did not know where to begin. What we then set out to achieve was to help these small business owners with their digital marketing and to this day this is proving to be very successful. The reason this is successful for our clients is not because we are good at what we do, but rather because of this new era in marketing. You see digital marketing has a certain power over traditional marketing because of modern day tech. Your customer or client is more likely to see your business or advert on their mobile phone or internet than the commercial section of your local newspaper. R3 000 to R5 000 on flyers is not lucrative anymore especially because you cannot measure the amount of leads this will generate and therefore cannot measure the Return on Investment (ROI). And how many small business owners do you know are prepared to spend the amount of money needed to advertise on a billboard next to a main road? Digital marketing gives your business an edge that you didn’t have before. As a small business owner, you can now speak to your customer directly without them being in front of you and gain valuable information from them which helps you to better sell to them. What do I mean by this? Well, people will let you know what they are looking for from a brand or product or company.

They will give you detailed information on how to better serve them, if you only engaged them and this is the problem with traditional PUSH Marketing (Pushing our products or services on consumers), it never engaged the market or people you wanted to do business with. With new digital tactics and methods, this is becoming a lot easier and very successful when done accurately. One clear way to do this right is by using social media for your business. Social media is no longer what it was 10 years ago. Today we use it to express our opinions and share our thoughts on what makes our lives better and worse and this is valuable insight to gauge and gather as a small business owner because you now can help make someoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s life easier just by seeing what their interests are. One of the many benefits of social media is that it gives you access to a bank of peoplesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; interests and this is great when marketing your brand. Now, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s important to make mention of the fact that social media is time consuming and in any business time is money, but this does not need to be the case for your small business as there are many social media manager apps one can use to effectively promote your brand on multiple platforms. A favourite being Hootsuite which helps you implement a social timeline and manage multiple accounts in one place, saving you many hours or you could just outsource this service to a digital marketing agency. Another lucrative form of digital marketing is using email to engage your consumer and making them aware of what is taking place in the life and times of your business or brand. An amazing tool for this is MailChimp which is a free and easy to use email marketing tool. It allows

you to design stunning visuals that engage and captivate your consumers and best of all, there is a free version which helps you take your digital marketing to a whole new level. I have only shared on two of the effective digital marketing tools and already you should realise the power you have with this new way of marketing versus the old way. The tools mentioned here are free to a certain point but has already saved you R3 000 to R5 000 spent on flyers mentioned earlier which you questioned whether it was going to drive more sales or not. Mostly this new way should change the way you think about marketing your business and help you see that relying on traditional marketing in 2017 and beyond will no longer be the best weapon you have in your marketing arsenal. This unknown quote says it best, ignoring online marketing is like opening a business but not telling anyone about it.

Everything in the world exists through thought, everything was created by thought and everything is created through thought. Your thoughts have power to summon anything you want in your life through what you think about and what you let dwell in your mind. Negative thoughts will never give you positive results nor a positive life, the thoughts of being broke, the thoughts that make you angry or sad draw negative results while the thoughts of peace, wealth, happiness and good health bring about positive results. To change the condition of your life, you have to change the way you think. Do not say you are broke, say you are overcoming a cash flow problem and whenever you are having a bad day just say you are having a character building day. It is in our bad days that we build the person we are meant to become, your struggle, your pain, your financial problems they will only be solved by positive thinking. Your current situation is not your final destination. Win your mind, Win your life!

My Deepest Fear by Poetess Dee Nthedi

My deepest fear is not that you’ll wake up some day and cheat on me or that you’ll leave me. My deepest fear is that you’ll wake up some day,Lean in and instead of kissing me you’ll realise my cracked lips,my eye bags, my bad breath & bad mouth taste, I fear that you’ll wake up and realise I have stretch marks from my stomach all the way down to my thighs and you’ll be disgusted by it. I fear that one day you’ll wake and for no reason at all .. You’ll no longer love me & I’ll just lay there, Cry my eyes out and blame myself for doing nothing - Nothing to attract me to you anymore !!

Focused, relaxed, hardworking and a quick learner, well that is Lungisani Trueman Ngidi, Titans fast Bowler. Born and raised in Durban, Kloof, Lungi Ngidi started out in humble beginnings before working his way up in the South African Cricket Ranks and donning the famous Proteas jersey at the tender age of 21. “My upbringing wasn’t easy, my parents where both domestic workers, we had a few challenges but most importantly we made use of what we had and we survived,”

Ngidi said. Kloof Primary School is where the fast bowler developed his love for cricket. He was seven-years-old when he ventured into the cricket game, “from there on up until high school I kept on playing although I was also good in rugby but cricket has always been my number one passion” Ngidi recollects.

With the years going by, Ngidi then moved on to Hilton College for secondary, where his career shaped up. “That’s where I continued playing sports, mainly cricket and rugby, then in grade nine my coach, Shane, he came up to me and told me he believed that I can make it far in cricket so I had to choose between rugby and cricket. I believed my coach and dropped everything and focused solely on cricket,” he said. Little did he know that taking up his coaches’ advice would turn into a blessing and earn him a dream move to the Titans. “In 2013 I got offered a bursary from the University of Pretoria to come study at their university and play sports,” Ngidi said. This was an offer that had Ngidi thinking then during his matric year he decided that he will take the offer, “I always wanted to study and there was nothing left for me in KZN, so, yes, I took up the offer and came to Pretoria then from there on my career kept o progressing,” he said. When the fast bowler is not at the crease causing havoc for the opposition batsman, he can be found at Tuks lecture Halls, where his studying a Bachelor of Social Science in Industrial Sociology and Labour studies.

PLAYING CRICKET AT INTERNATIONAL LEVEL In 2015 he made the Northerns cricket squad for the African T20. “That was big, it was a new opportunity, I mean, I had never played cricket at that level and it was a chance for me to show people what I’m capable of,” says Lungi. A year later his outstanding performances at club level caught the attention of national team selectors. Ngidi claimed that he does not usually answer phone calls from numbers that he is not familiar with. It was a heavy rains day and he was at a hotel room in Bloemfontein as they had been in a game with Lions, “but this time I decided to answer it and it was Linda Zondi (Proteas’ selector) and he told

that I’ve been selected to the Proteas T20 squad to play SRI-LANKA and he congratulated meand I just said thank you and I hung up, that’s it!” Ngidi excited. Ngidi admits that the call up took him by surprise which is why he had one of the most awkward conversations with the selectors, as it was only later when it started sinking in that he has been chosen to represent the country at an international level. Despite the weird phone call he received, Lungi went on to produce a stellar performance for the Proteas winning the match of the match in the T20 series against Sri-lanka back in January. “Winning man of the match in my debut for the Proteas was a blessing, and a sportsman that’s just the way I wanted to kick-off my international career, it was a real blessing. In July, Lungi made the Proteas squad for the England tour, however it wasn’t to be this time, as he could not honour that call up due to a back injury. “It was bad because I felt as if I’ve worked hard to get where I was and all of the sudden it’s taken away so much, quickly”. Ngidi claimed that getting injured in the middle of the year hampered with some of the opportunities he should have had. With the year coming to an end now, the young Titans bowler is not satisfied with the contribution he has made to the national team “but I’d say that I’m pleased with the progress I’ve made in terms of Franchise Cricket and I believe that I’m on the right track to making it at an international level,” he added.

Working with Coach Mark Boucher at club level has played a big role in shaping Lungi into the bowler he is. “Coach Mark is amazing and he’s helped me a lot, he’s able to relate to us from a player’s perspective since he was once a player himself and he knows what it takes and all that,” Ngidi said, “He has set me on the right path, I’ve grown up watching him and now having him as my coach is a blessing, he’s a hands on coach and that has been great for me in terms of this journey I’m currently on,” he added. The Titans set up boasts well renowned cricket stars in the country and for Lungi to rub shoulders with players who compete at international level regularly motivates the KZN born to work even harder. “We’ve got guys like Chris Morris, Henry Davids and Albie Morkel.” The 21-year-old further shares how he prepares for games, “The day before the game I like being alone, all by myself, I just listen to music and think about the game ahead and on the day of the game I make sure that my left foot always steps first on the field”. As a well-groomed young adult, Ngidi advices the youth and young up-coming athletes to face whatever challenge they come across heads on. “Things change very quickly and for those who are going through a bad patch there’s no point in crying about it, because at the end of the day the tears will dry and the situation will still be there, so you’ve got to face things heads on and face every challenge that comes your way,” Ngidi said.
