JESSE SUNTELE ESCALATING IN THE INDUSTRY

Real name Jesse Ambrose Suntele was born in Johannesburg in the time bloom of the year, spring of 1992. He moved to Bloemfontein with his family to complete his studies where he matriculated from St. Joseph’s Christian Brothers College in Bloemfontein before moving back to Johannesburg. Last year he won Top Actor SA - a competition where hopefuls showcase their acting talents. Top Actor SA has paved a lot of opportunities for him in the industry. Apart from winning BET Top Actor SA he was on Season 2 of the competition reality show - The Hustle where he only made it to top 7 but that did not stop him from continuing to be the trap king. Jesse has graced the small screen on shows such as The Queen, Generations: The Legacy, Ngempela and Ashes to Ashes amongst a few. Jesse has constantly been featured on adverts. He is currently a presenter on BET A-List, which is an entertainment magazine show that airs on MTV. Auzweke Magazine had an exclusive interview with such an amazing talent and this is what he had to say about being a trap King, actor and an individual that has worked extremely hard to propel in the industry:

TRAP KING AND SPITTING BARS HARD You have been in the industry and you are continuing to dominate the industry with your fluorescent personality. What would you say gave you the motive to venture into rapping? For the most part there was no “motive” behind my rap move. In fact it was not a move at all, I have been rapping for as long as I can remember so, I have always known I was going to pursue music, it was just a matter of timing.

TOP ACTOR SOUTH AFRICA PAVED MY WAY INTO THE INDUSTRY You won the exhilarating - Top Actor South Africa. How has the experience been for you?

8

The competition experience was incredible, the doors that opened after that, even MORE so! There is no way to measure the worth of the show in terms of what it has done for my career because I still find opportunities based on the skills I learned and the connections I made back then.

MY STYLE IS DISCREPANT, MAKE YOUR OWN TREND Your fashion sense is somewhat discrepant from everyone else. Who dresses you and where do you get your inspiration from? [laughs] my style is probably the most simple style I know. Nobody dresses me or styles me and I don’t really have a style inspiration. I style ME based on ME. I try to find looks that make ME feel good and that fit ME well. I normally end up in a t-shirt and jeans [laughs].

DESTINATION FOUND, PLANE TICKET BOOKED If you were given a chance to experience a specific country for a month. Where would you go to and why? If you asked me this a few years from now I might say some secluded island somewhere but because of where I am in my career, I must say the USA. Cliché, I know but I am yet to experience the entertainment industry that side, I hear it’s a whole different beast and I want to try man hand at taming it.

I AM J AND I FLOW. SUMMON ME JFLO How did the alter-ego JFlo come about? What was the inspiration behind it? The story behind the name is actually really simple. After my first ever on-stage performance back in high school, a girl in the crowd came up to me to tell me she likes the way I flow and uttered the words “you should call yourself Flow”, so I did and just added the J from my name.

9

LIFE WITHOUT MUSIC, IS A TOTAL BORE Music heals and music makes one to be extremely jubilant. That one song that you always play in your car? I never have ONE favorite song. I am always playing playlists or albums or a specific artist. Usually Jcole, Coldplay or Adele [laughs]

MY FUTURE LOOKS TOO BRIGHT. BETTER PUT YOUR SHADES ON What is it that your fans can anticipate from you in the future? Surprises! I do not ever want to be predictable, therefore I do not ever want them to EXPECT anything obvious. I will always be trying something new and challenging but I will always be aiming to be great at whatever it is.

I GOT A LOT OF TALENTS HIDDEN UNDER MY SLEEVE You have quite a number of talents. Do you have any hidden talents? I actually have a few things I love doing like practicing Parkour/FreeRunning and calisthenics. It’s a little hard to explain but it’s fun! You’ll have to google it [laughs]. I also like drawing. A HEALTHY DIET NEVER DISAPPOINTS How is your current diet looking like? What would you suggest to someone that wants to start a diet? Ever cheated on your diet? My current diet is one I would suggest to a lot of people. I am currently experimenting with flexible dieting and carb-cycling. Which simply means I don’t believe in punishing, strict, starve yourself to death diets.

10

I love food so I eat, I just make sure I stay conscious of what I am eating and how much, so that I know how to make up for it to stay on track. It is easier to skip carbs for a few days and eat what I want after that, than to stay hungry for months.

SPRING - I AM READY FOR YOU! What do you have planned for Spring and what do you think will be trending this season? Spring is my birth season so spring is all about ME, work will revolve around my own personal goals and my music. I will also be taking out a lot of time to myself and reminding myself of what is important to me.

SPARE TIME? TIME TO RELAX What do you normally get up to on your spare time? MOVIES! I love watching movies so I often visit the cinema to see what is out. Large Coke, Medium Popcorn and Astros, thank you!

YOURS TRULY, JESSIE SUNTELE Concrete advice that you can give to upcoming artists? Know the game, Play the game. I say this all the time, stop fighting to change the music from OUTSIDE the club. Find out what it takes to get into the industry and do what you have to, soon you’ll be able to do what you want to. By Lindokuhle Ndaba

AUZWEKE #Ask_IGirls

Are girls not allowed to party? Partying is one of the ways to have fun and it brings together different kinds of people to be around one space and enjoy themselves. Regardless of the gender, people need to be happy and if parties make them happy, they should go for it but beware of the good and bad of partying.

Girls are traditionally raised to not associate themselves with party people simply because parties have been painted badly by their consequences such as rape, drunkenness, unplanned pregnancies and – but not limited to – kidnapping.

Girls “should try to maintain their circle… and be contained because once you are contained, everything will run smoothly,” said Shema. IGirl that believes that everyone should have fun but beware of the friends they have.

These tragic consequences are true but it depends who one associates themselves with, some people go to the party to have some fun whereas some have their hidden agendas that are of no good, such as grabbing a girl to spend the night with and drop in the morning.

There is a growing tendency that there cannot be fun without alcohol and this leads to minors wanting to get alcohol, and a lot of it so to get drunk and have something to talk about the following day. Peer pressure takes advantage, it looks all cool to get a lot of drinks, do some dumb stuff and chat about it all the following day.

A young adult who loves having fun and partying, vibrant and free, an extrovert kind of a girl, Koketso Shema said women can have fun without it hindering them from a good future.

14

As alcohol is said to be the trigger for fun in parties, people end up in a situation of substance abuse which – of course – has no good effects.

When one is drunk, she can easily be “raped,” said Tlankuru following disadvantages of attending parties as a girl. That is the life of people that claim to be having fun, and it looks okay when a boy does it but becomes a different story when it comes to girls attempting to do the same thing. Mapula Tlankuru said that he does not get what the problem is when girls attend parties – especially late night parties because they too are human that need to have some fun. The tall, white coffee coloured lady and aspiring model, Tlankuru said without any signs of doubt, “Yes, girls should party,” however she pointed out the disadvantages and advantages of going partying; she listed rape, kidnapping, drugging and getting hurt as the disadvantages. According this very same lady, there are also advantages and “you’ll create memories, have fun and meet new people,” said Tlankuru. The pros and cons revolve around the kind of a person one is and the circle they have around, at some point in life the disadvantages of going partying are not just associated with partying, there are negatives in many of the positive things people do. So this makes one wonder: should one not enjoy herself because of the negatives or go ahead because of the positives?

Although life at present should be enjoyed, the future should be thought of and that is one of the reasons why girls are traditionally stopped from attending parties. Girls that attend such are thought of as that they do not have a backbone, meaning that they do not respect themselves in some way. Likely, girls that attend parties are said to not be the ‘wife material’. Lehlohonolo Mofokeng said girls should party but should party on the right level, stating that, “there’s partying in your free time and partying everyday,” this means that a girl can part but not be a party freak because “partying everyday requires you to squeeze time in your hectic schedule,” he added and claimed that squeezing time will make one lose focus in other important things like work and school. Stopping a girl from partying might make her not to follow the kind of a career they really love such as being a DJ because she does not get to see what DJs do or get to ask them how they got to where they are so to help her get there too. Partying should not be categorised in gender, girls too want to enjoy themselves and as Shema said, “let girls live too.” they too are beings that want to enjoy their lives. Just teach iGirls to protect themselves. By Boitumelo Kgobotlo

Ordinary teena than 20K Instag

AUZWEKE Feature

The internet gets people many opportunities lately and getting many Instagram followers is a great opportunity for some industries.

Chanel Bleq, as many may call him, is a 19-year-old from Brandvlei, Randfontein. In less than three years on Instagram, he managed to get more than 20 000 followers, a dream for many ordinary teenagers around that age. The young and feisty Chanel started the Instagram account during his matric year at Randfontein high school. The thought to start an Instagram account had nothing so big in it till time passed and with it came knowledge that had him interested in going big, he said he had not thought of it as a brand as it is now.

16

ager with more gram followers “I started asking my high school pupils to start following me,” said Bleq and that is how he started getting followers, through self-marketing and being himself, an extrovert that is. By the end of 2015 he had got 3 000 followers on his account and it was what he says to be “a good start.” The dream is to be in the media industry, to be a presenter and other media opportunities, “the media is all about the numbers now, it’s about how many followers you have on social media!” Bleq exclaimed. He was all glittering and full of smiles to tell that he feels this is the ticket to his dream. Data is a major issue and is the reason hindering people from getting into social media regularly but because of love and passion Bleq always finds a way to get enough data. He took his phone from the table and started taking pictures during the interview, “these need posting,” he said, “I am addicted to this thing,” he jokingly added as he continued to take pictures. He also stated that being an addict of Instagram helped him get followers, “because I am constantly posting, constantly interacting with my followers,” he said. However, because he gets too many invites he cannot follow them back but likes to interact with his followers. Through that it was noticed that he captures his every moment when he can and posts it on Instagram. “since the beginning of this year, I got more than 10K followers,” lips enlarged and hands raised in demonstration of the happiness he feels. All the fame has its ups and downs, he has faced, and is still facing challenges, and he stated that most of the challenges are

in relation with him being gay. Being gay in some societies is seen as a taboo and immoral, this affects him when people start discriminating but he never lets the discriminations act as obstacles stopping him from reaching his dreams. “I get people that tell me that God hates me… they are judging me and that is a sin,” he said. More to that he explained that people should stop judging him for who he is, that they sometimes send “death threats” and that is not sitting well with him. “It all goes back to me being the gay that wear makeup,” he said as he explained what he thought made him famous on Instagram. Moreover, he claimed that the people he looks up to are international so “I think that’s what made people realise me,” he said and added “me being me, that’s what made people notice me.” As he gained so many followers in an early age, it came to an advantage whereby he had become the MC of the South African musicians, a party where Areece and JR were present held at Da Side in Randfontein, “I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for my followers.” Followers are not just followers for this bubbly person, they are friends. However, he narrated how other people befriend him just to “use” him to also gain the fame. On his bio on Instagram he wrote: An ordinary boy with a few make-up products. He said he is just that, an “ordinary boy.” Instagram fame has its advantages and disadvantages, he has tasted them all and looking forward to some more of both, regardless of what happens, Chanel Bleq is happy with his Instagram community. Sex should be enjoyed (18 NSL)

A DM that read “I think there is a problem with me, whenever BAE and myself have sex I experience intense vaginal discomfort and pain either during sex or afterwards. I don’t remember being dry during coitus. I often experience a similar pain during my periods so I was asking What could be the problem?” Too much information I know, but believe you me “it goes down in the DMs”. I will name this lady @AnnonymousReference from Matlhonyane village to protect her identity.

While I am used to being trusted with sensitive information like this, some of you might think, “tjeeeeer!!! too much information”, but that is not the point, the point is she needs help because sex should be pleasurable for everyone. So, I got hold of an obstetrician and gynaecologist DR Zandile B Dlamini to discuss the most common problems that could be leading to @AnnonymousReference depravation. Don’t mean to brag but I mean, I am good like that, you know #MjojoLivity rolls with the best.

DR Zandile Dlamini

20

During our cerebral conversation, DR Zandile Dlamini indicated that besides vaginal dryness, endometriosis may be the cause of the pain experienced by @AnnonymousReference. Dr Zandile B Dlamini explained that Endometriosis is a condition of the uterus where endometrial tissue is found (implants) outside the uterine cavity. The endometrium is a mucus membrane lining the inside of the uterus. It may occur in one or multiple sites. The vagina, cervix, rectovaginal septum, cecum, bladder and the uterus are the commonly affected sites. Females from the time of menstruation to menopause are commonly affected by endometriosis. “The cause of endometriosis is unknown. One theory is that the endometrial tissue is deposited in unusual locations by the backward flow of menstrual debris through the Fallopian tubes into the pelvic and abdominal cavities” she said. Endometriosis is commonly presented with painful menstruation, pelvic pain, difficult or painful sexual intercourse and/or infertility. The endometrial implants outside the uterus form adhesions of pelvic organs which makes the uterus rigid and immobilized thus resulting in pain.

Dr Dlamini indicated that a pelvic ultrasound may be used to evaluate the possibility of endometriosis but it cannot on its own be used to diagnose endometriosis. A laparoscopy is often used to confirm this diagnosis if the diagnosis cannot be confirmed through imaging studies and one will need to give surgical consent for this procedure as it is done in theatre. The treatment of endometriosis like most conditions depends on the severity of symptoms, location and extent of the condition. Age and the need for fertility also plays a vital role in determining the treatment plan. There is either medical or surgical treatment available for endometriosis. Medical treatment included the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, estrogen-progestin oral contraceptives, progestin and other available options, which may be discussed with your attending health care professional. The benefit of using medical treatment is that it protects you from complications of surgery and destruction of pelvic tissues. Surgical treatments are recommended on certain cases and make sure you understand prior to agreeing to treatment. Which may include very severe extent of disease and medical treatments failure. Now that I went through all the trouble to assist @AnnonymousReference and possibly you, I hope you will go seek help and responsibly “idla ubusha” and go sebenza gurl!!! In that bedroom or wherever Iyaaaaas!!! #MjojoLivity Article by @GuardianNurse, Please follow us on Twitter and DM us if you wish to be our reference for subsequent features.

How to market my small biz?

26

27

I always find myself searching google on how to do stuff! My best search was how to clean aged copper products. Google suggested a YouTube video and Bob was my uncle. I found what I was looking for, the video gave me exact details on how to use some home ingredients to clean my copper products, suffice to say, the results were phenomenal. I felt super smart and I have not stopped searching ‘how to’ stuff since! With this being said, I have noticed that quite often when searching how to on Google, that Google pre-suggests what my search is or what my search may be and the thing I always notice is what people or business owners are searching the web for. This is what this month’s article is about: How to market my small biz. This got me thinking, how many small business owners in South Africa are searching for the same thing? If you are currently a small business owner or planning to be one, chances are you are on the internet quite often, in fact you might just be spending most of your working day online. That is if you are not out knocking on corporate doors selling your business to potential buyers. Now, the fact that this search suggestion comes up so often gives me insight as to what small business owners need or want to know better for themselves. Which is a great thing because it means that you realise you have the power to effectively grow your business and just generally want to now more. Not every business owner is equipped with all the knowledge it takes to run a business, at the very beginning of it, and that is understandable of course. You learn a lot of what must be known on the job! But what you do know for certain is that there is a product and or a service that must be sold to a consumer who needs or wants what your business has to offer. Starting a small business today is not very difficult. In fact, in South Africa today, we have many enterprises and government organisations and initiatives that help make it

28

affordable and most definitely possible to pursue your business goals. However, the onus is still on you to understand why you are in business and who you will sell too. Knowing your product or service and knowing yourself is one thing. But understanding how to market your business is something else. You could be an amazing sales person with a great offering, you may even have the world’s most amazing product(s), but if you cannot get your offering to its market then you do not really have a successful business. Promoting your offering to a potential customer with a fancy business card does guarantee you a sale. It only just means you have wasted money. Why? Because you have paid for that business card and got more of a compliment for the fancy business card than you did for your business offering. But if you have promoted your offering to a potential customer who noticed your business’ marketing efforts and they have contacted as a result of this, then you are guaranteed a sale. Simply because you have effectively managed to engage the individual/s interest in your business’s offering. The How to market my small biz search is so successful among small business owners today because it teaches the individual the basics and most important fundamentals of marketing. The search will yield the results I have listed here and this is because the practices below have been the foundation of all marketing principles, commonly known as the marketing mix, since the 1960’s.

1. You must research the need of your product or service, hopefully this would have been done before you started the actual business. 2. You must understand who your target market is, this is the people whom you want to buy your offering. 3. You must understand where most of your business will come from and the demographic of this buyer. This is the specific details of the potential buyer and the reason for this is to better understand your buyer so you can sell more product to them, without having to physically force your product on them. This is a time-consuming study and is not immediately revenue producing activity but is absolutely necessary for the continuous success of the business. 4. You need to know where to price your offering. If you enter the market too low, you risk turning a loss and if your prices are too high, well then you are not competitive and risk people not buying from you. 5. Once you are certain of all of the above, you now have to focus on promotion. How to get my product to its market? Along with the above, the search will also show results of today’s most common and also effective marketing practices. These results will be more digitally focused as most of today’s consumers of any product or service will track and find you online either via a computer or their mobile phones. This means that a large majority of your marketing efforts will and has to be digitally focused. To be more specific, what I mean small business owner, is that you will have to learn how to market your business online. 1. Be sure to have an online presence. This is mainly your company’s website which should be built by a professional as it needs to be user and mobile friendly. Your website is your online business card, only with a lot more information and insight to your business. 2. Be sure to be found on Google. If you can’t be found on Google, then your business is hiding in some dark

road with no pedestrians to see what you have to offer. This is search engine optimization or better known as SEO. 3. Social media today, is like currency. If your business not on social media, well then… your chances of transacting are slim. You should not only aim to have a social media presence but aim to have it optimised and specifically targeted to your market. Please do keep your viewers engaged, enlightened and entertained in your posts as they help grow your business. Social media is todays word-of-mouth. 4. Have a monthly emailing campaign to your customer base. Inform them of what is happening in your business and what the latest deals are. Keep them interested. 5. And then repeat the above efforts weekly to grow your brand. These digital marketing efforts are the basics and very simple to affect and will guarantee brand development, business growth and more sales! Searching How to market my small biz is a search you should do at least once a month as it brings up every article, post, company, technique and the what not to do’s you will need when learning how to market your small business. My hope for you is that you will be very successful in your marketing endeavours and the growth of your business.

2018 Renault Megane R.S – Comes out of IAA looking for a fight!

30

Renault Sport is proud to be taking the wraps off New Renault Mégane R.S. at the 2017 Frankfurt International Motor Show. Since the launch of the original Mégane R.S. back in 2004, the model has carved out a strong reputation in the high-performance C-segment and become widely regarded as a benchmark in its class. New Renault Mégane R.S. takes Renault Sport’s unmistakeable hallmarks of agility, efficiency and driving enjoyment a step further thanks to a more finely-tuned chassis performance permitted by 4CONTROL technology complete with four-wheel steering, a first in the segment. An all-new 280hp/390Nm engine has benefited from synergies within the Alliance, and, for the first time, New Renault Mégane R.S. is available with a choice of two transmission options.

“I was involved in New Renault Mégane R.S.’s development and I am proud to be its ambassador. Thanks to the new technologies it packs, including 4CONTROL technology, New Mégane R.S. is even more efficient and nimble than its predecessor. It’s a delight to drive.” Nico Hülkenberg – Renault Sport Racing Formula 1 driver and Renault Sport Cars ambassador. “Performance is the chief reason our customers cite for purchasing the Mégane R.S. and the All-New Mégane R.S. takes the styling and technologies even further to deliver truly exceptional driving enjoyment. Our intention is to see the All-New Mégane R.S., with its chassis and 4CONTROL, remain the C-segment hot hatch benchmark.” Patrice Ratti – General Manager of Renault Sport Cars.

Performance-driven design Wider tracks for outstanding driving dynamics

New Renault Mégane R.S.’s expressive, sporty lines point to the model’s performance pedigree and pay tribute to Renault’s longstanding involvement in topflight motorsport.

New Renault Mégane R.S. stands out through its specific proportions. In addition to the bespoke lines of its flanks, including wider wings which have been extended by 60mm and 45mm at the front and rear respectively compared with Mégane GT. Meanwhile, its overall width has been increased and new 18 and 19-inch wheels have been designed to provide a better stance and further enhance cornering performance. 31

Forceful styling features incorporating cues from the world of motorsport The new front bumper incorporates:

• A Formula 1-style blade which, in addition to being a Renault Sport styling hallmark and symbolic of Renault’s commitment to Formula 1, is picked out in a distinctive Gun Metal Grey satin finish that contrasts sharply with the bodywork’s high-gloss sheen. • A wide air intake to provide air for the intercoolers and engine cooling. • A specific front grille complete with a diamond grid pattern revisited by Renault Sport.

The design of the sides features: • A silhouette inspired by New Renault Mégane, with sculpted, sensuous lines accentuated by the R.S. version’s wider tracks and wings. • Extractor vents located behind the front wheels. • A specific sill design incorporating a black blade that runs along the bottom edge to visually connect the front and rear of the car and suggest a ‘flat floor’ effect, a common feature in motorsport.

Rear: • The new lip spoiler with body-colour vertical mountings designed to generate greater downforce underlines the width of New Renault Mégane. The new rear bumper incorporates: • Mégane R.S. hallmark, centrally-positioned exhaust pipe with a prismatic finish. • A working diffuser inspired by the world of Formula 1 to negate lift at higher speeds.

A specific new body colour

A new body colour has joined the Mégane R.S. family – Volcanic Orange. Like Renault Sport’s iconic Liquid Yellow, the new finish benefits from special work to combine a unique sheen with a special effect as light reflects off the body. It also injects added dynamism and is perfectly coordinated with the car’s cabin where the following features contribute to New Renault Mégane R.S.’s distinctive interior ambience: • Sports front seats with integrated head rests. • A predominantly charcoal grey cockpit[1] with red top-stitching, • A choice of two upholsteries (‘carbon fibre weave’ or Alcantara®[2]), • Bespoke aluminium pedal and gear lever.

Renault Sport’s visual branding common to both its road cars and the world of racing Renault Sport took advantage of the presentation of Renault’s latest Formula 1 car – the R.S.17 – in London, in February, to reveal its new logo which is shared by Renault Sport Racing and Renault Sport Cars. Now, for the very first time, this badging – emblematic of Renault’s sporting heritage – appears on the tailgate of one of the brand’s road-going models – New Renault Mégane R.S.

Unrivalled driving pleasure courtesy of Renault Sport’s expertise 4CONTROL chassis: an exclusive in New Renault Mégane’s class Renault Sport’s acclaimed engineering expertise has taken the performance of New Renault Mégane R.S. to a new level thanks to two new features that are unique in the car’s segment. • Courtesy of Renault’s 4CONTROL system with fourwheel steering (a standard feature of both the model’s Cup and Sport chassis versions), New Renault MéganeS. is even more nimble through tight turns and more stable when cornering at higher speeds. The steering is more incisive while the turning circle is even tighter when manoeuvring. Carefully configured by Renault Sport, 4CONTROL generates a whole new level of driving enjoyment in the segment. • Front and rear hydraulic compression stops, a technology derived from the world of motorsport, provide additional damping and eliminate the effects of rebound by performing the following functions:

32

• They ensure a high level of chassis efficiency on the Cup chassis version irrespective of the type of road. • Combined with the Sport chassis, they deliver unprecedented comfort in the segment. New Renault Mégane R.S. carries over the key features that helped to forge the success of previous-generation versions. • The PerfoHub independent steering axis front suspension has been completely redesigned to cater for New Renault MéganeS.’s new geometry and is stiffer than before. • The new Torsen®limited slip differential that comes with the Cup chassis features different lock-up values under acceleration and deceleration for enhanced traction and higher cornering speeds. • The suspension settings of both versions are specific (springs, dampers, bump stops and anti-roll bar stiffness).

An all-new engine that benefits from synergies within the Alliance New Renault Mégane R.S. is equipped with an all-new turbocharged engine equipped with direct fuel injection. • This 1.8-litre (1,798cc) four-cylinder unit generates 280hp (205kW) at 6,000rpm and 390Nm of torque, positioning it firmly amongst the class’s front-runners in terms of peak torque. • Maximum torque is available from 2,400rpm up to 5,000rpm. To enable this engine to produce this level of power and torque under the bonnet of New Renault Mégane R.S., Renault Sport focused its development work primarily on the cylinder head, air intake and exhaust. • The cylinder head has been completely redesigned with combined input from the experts at Renault Sport Cars and Renault Sport Racing Formula 1 engineers. • The revised, higher-capacity dual-intake air filter features improved permeability. • The Twin Scroll turbo significantly enhances flexibility and response at low revs. This engine emits 155g/km of CO2 (a considerable 11% reduction compared with the previous generation Mégane R.S.), while NEDC combined-cycle fuel consumption stands at 6.9 litres per 100km[3] (which equates to approximately 41mpg). A choice of two types of transmission For the first time, New Renault Mégane R.S. offers a choice of transmission for its new 280hp TCe engine. • Six-speed manual • Six-speed EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch) automatic transmission. The ratios and gearshift calibration were developed by Renault Sport to combine performance with efficient fuel consumption, while the EDC transmission’s gear shift times have been optimised for greater performance and driving enjoyment. The EDC transmission stands out through a number of specific features: • Paddle-shifters – of a type similar to those used in motor racing – allow the driver to change gear without having to take their hands off the steering wheel when cornering. • Multi-Change Down technology ensures fast sequential down-changing and allows drivers to downshift several gears in quick succession under braking. This ensures the vehicle is in the most appropriate gear to tackle the following corner. • Launch Control for optimised getaways, directly inspired by motorsport technology. This is available in either Race mode or Sport mode, where it works in conjunction with the specially-adapted traction control to produce a textbook start even in low-grip situations. A 300 horsepower / 400Nm Trophy version Before the end of 2018, Renault Sport will introduce a Trophy version of New Renault Mégane R.S., the engine of which will produce 300hp and 400Nm of torque. It will incorporate a number of technologies geared to performance, including the Cup chassis and 19-inch wheels as standard equipment.

The performance of a car is also gauged by its braking ability. Renault Sport has introduced two new features to upgrade New Renault Mégane R.S.’s stopping power: • New 355mm front discs with Brembo callipers. • Optional bi-material cast iron and aluminium brake discs. Upgraded R.S. Monitor Thanks to its on-board telemetry system, R.S. Monitor, Renault Sport extends the R.S. experience beyond the act of simply driving. The latest version features new graphics and is even more user-friendly, with a choice of two configurations: • R.S. Monitor displays the driver’s performance in real time on the R-LINK 2 screen. • R.S. Monitor Expert provides drivers with the opportunity to connect a camera (either an independent camera or their smartphone camera) to film their drive. They can then play back and analyse their run thanks to the incorporation of performance data in the image. They can even share the film on social media. • There is a bespoke website for Renault Sport customers. • R.S. Replay allows owners to engage with other members of the Renault Sport community by uploading their recordings, playing them back and comparing runs.

Performance in all situations R.S. Vision, Renault Sport’s lighting system Already a feature of New Clio R.S., Renault’s multi-reflector R.S. Vision LED lighting system was a natural choice for New Renault Mégane R.S. Taking the form of a chequered flag – another nod to the world of motor racing – it is incorporated in the front bumper and frames the F1-style blade. This patented technology, which is exclusive to Renault Sport, delivers high-performance lighting and includes the fog lights, cornering lights and dipped and main beam head lights. R.S. Vision stands out as an unprecedented lighting package in New Renault Mégane R.S.’s segment to ensure a level of visibility worthy of the car’s high-performance pedigree. Meanwhile, for the first time on Mégane R.S., Renault’s trademark C-Shaped lighting signature incorporates the vehicle’s direction indicators. A personalised experience courtesy of MULTI-SENSE Renault’s MULTI-SENSE system and its choice of five driving modes personalise the driving experience by adapting engine response (via the pedal mapping), the firmness of the steering and gear shift speeds[4]. The R.S. Drive button provides shortcut access to the Sport and Race modes thanks to a short or long press respectively. Driver aids designed for everyday use Now a five-door hatchback, New Renault Mégane R.S. is even more suited to everyday use, while losing nothing of its dynamic, sporty character. A suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) allows it to be driven in all types of situation. New Renault Mégane R.S. comes with Renault’s high-end R-LINK 2 multimedia system complete with a large 8.7-inch (22cm)TFT display. Sourced from petrosexual

AUZWEKE Poetry Corner

Six Men And A Pipe Every second a woman is raped, Every second a mother is raped, Every second a girl is raped, Every second a child is raped. I sit in my room and think, I sit in the smallest room, I sit and face the darkest wall, I sit and wonder. Tears fill my eyes, I try so hard not to cry but the drops do as they please, The salt sits on my lips and my tongue tastes it. I sit there not because I want to but because I’m hiding, I try to hide away from you but you always manage to find me, I hear your foot steps approaching, I hear you making noise, I can already tell you drunk - Again. You tell your friends not to worry, I tried to wipe my tears off but it was useless, You walked in Laughing and calling my name ... Lights went on, I said a prayer. You came forward and said it’s okay, Your cold hands touched my face, You kissed my forehead, “We were interuped”, Your friends came in, Carring bottles and a pipe, My tears became a riverfall.

You said I should be still, I couldin’t be still, There’s no way I’d be still, How could I be still, 120 fingers tickled me, 12 hands undressed me, 6 men helped themselves, 1 pipe hurt me. I screamed;I said no, I screamed;I said stop, I screamed;I said no, I screamed;I said stop. But to you;It was a “go on”. You eventually stopped, You all laughed, You all kissed me, You all said you’d be back. You left;Mum stood by the door, She said it was a pleasure doing business with the men, I cried more, How could my parents sell me, Doesin’t carrying me for 9month mean anything, Doesin’t 11 years of raising me up mean anything, Doesin’t my crys mean anything, Doesin’t being your daughter mean anything ?? Every second I am raped. Six men and a pipe. By: Poetess Dee Nthedi

SA’s junior sprinting sensations Retshidisitswe Mlenga and Tshenolo Lemao sat down for an in-depth interview, covering a range of topics from their upbringing, high school life and the wonders they performed at the IAAF World under/18 champions in Kenya.

AUZWEKE MAGAZINE: WHO IS RETSIDISITSWE AND TSHENOLO? TSHENOLO: I’m a 100m and 200m runner from Tuks sports high doing grade 11. I’m more of an introvert, laid back and I like doing my own thing. RETSHIDISITSWE: Well, Retsi, is an athlete who goes to Prestige college in grade 11 and a 200m world champ.

HOW WAS YOUR UBRINGING? TSHENOLO: I grew up in a decent family back home in Bloemfontein, growing up I always played sports and my family supported me throughout. I’ve got two young siblings, a brother and a sister. Yes, I went to St. Andrews primary school until grade 9. Then in 2016 I got a scholarship to come study at Tuks sports high and that is when I

38

took my career to the next level. RETSHIDISITSWE: Growing up I’ve always been engaged in sports and I think it comes from my family, since my parents were also playing sports. I’ve always competed in sports I remember during my primary school days at Park senior where my coaches would always push me to do my level best. I also have two older siblings a sister and a brother.

WHAT MOTIVATED YOU GUYS TO BECOME ATHLETES? TSHENOLO: Athletics wasn’t really my main focus growing up. I used to play hockey and soccer. My coaches then told me that I’m fast and I should try my luck in running they took me to local athletic meetings then, yes, I did well from there on I never looked back.

RETSHIDISITSWE: I think it came from my parents like I said my parents were active in sports and the coaches at my primary school noticed my talent and they made sure that I become what I am today.

HOW DOES YOUR DAY LOOK LIKE ON A DAILY BASIS? TSHENOLO: I wake up at 6am then at quarter past 6, I hit the gym until 07:30. At 9am I’m at school up until 3pm and at 4pm I’m back at the gym again, well, after that session its already in the evening then I focus on my school work do my homework’s and assignments. RETSHIDISITSWE: I stay at a boarding school so, we’re up at 5am, the 1st thing I do when I get up is to pray. After that I’ll have my breakfast, shower and prepare for school which starts at 8am. At 2pm school is out then I can focus on training. With the duo attending different high schools and arising from different background’s they still maintain a strong friendship, formed back in 2015 when they first met at the track for junior athletics. Their partnership made the country proud earlier in the year when they scooped two medals each at the World under/18 champions in Nairobi helping the country finish with a total of eleven medals.

for me personally going to Kenya to represent my country. It was an indescribable feeling considering fact that not everybody gets such opportunities.

TAKE US THROUGH THE DAY OF THE RACE. TSHENOLO: I was thinking of all the people who could be watching back home in South Africa, especially when the cameras came to me. I just told myself this is it and I should run the best I can, and make the country proud, which is exactly what I did. RETSHIDISITSWE: For me, I kept thinking about my goals. I just wanted to inspire others who were watching back home that anything is possible so that was on my mind. I just hope I did that with the medals I’ve won.

HOW DID IT FEEL AFTER WINNING THE RACE? TSHENOLO: It was a blessing! I still remember that night after the race, I couldn’t sleep. I just kept thinking about what I’ve done for the country and for me as an athlete it was a wonderful achievement that I’m still proud of till this day. RETSHIDISITSWE: I was really excited, winning there was everything. I mean, with the whole world watching and it’s an international stage.

HOW HAS IT BEEN AFTER HOW WAS THE EXPEIRENCE WINNING AT THE IAAF , AT THE IAAF WORLD U/18 HOW DO PEOPLE REACT CHAMPIONSHIPS? WHEN THEY SEE YOU? TSHENOLO: Honestly, at the beginning I was nervous. I mean it was an international meet going there, I was so scared, but as the days went by I started settling in. I met other people from different countries and it was a great learning experience for me. RETSHIDISITSWE: I was a huge thing

TSHENOLO: I can say that it has changed my life and help me grow as an athlete. I do get one or two people on the streets wanting to take a picture with me and I’m always happy to pose for a selfie. Although, after we won at the world u/18 championships the following escalated and it was something new and I think I’ve handled it well.

39

RETSHIDISITSWE: I treat other people normally. I don’t see myself as a celebrity. My coach Reneilwe, has also been helpful guiding me on how to deal with such attention. If a people want to interact with me on the streets or take a picture I fully cooperate.

WHAT’S YOUR TAKE ON ATHLETICS IN SOUTH AFRICA? TSHENOLO: For me, I think we’re heading into the right direction if you look at the seniors we’ve produced Wayde,Caster and Luvo they hold the flag up high there and it really motivates us the younger ones. RETSHIDISITSWE: From my perspective we on a good track both at senior level and junior level.

ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH WHAT YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO FAR IN YOUR CAREER? TSHENOLO: No, I’m not satisfied, it’s still early days, yes, winning the juniors was an achievement but there’s still more to achieve like going to the Olympics and hopefully make the junior team next year. I’m happy with what I’ve achieved so far but I’m not satisfied. RETSHIDISITSWE: I’m also not at the level where I’m satisfied yet. My expectations are high and there’s still more to come.

WHO’S YOUR SOURCE OF INSPIRATION? TSHENOLO: My inspiration has to be Andre De Grasse who is a Canadian 200m sprinter. He achieved at the world seniors at the age of 19, in 2015. Winning a bronze medal with the world’s greatest athletes, Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin. His hard work, dedication and respect towards this sport gives me a huge motivation. My parents also play a big role in my career. RETSHIDISITSWE: My coach Reneilwe Aphane is my inspiration. He has played a big role in my career,

40

whenever I’m feeling down he reads me all the right motivational quotes.

WHATS YOUR FAVOURITES SUBJECT AT SCHOOL? TSHENOLO: Mathematics and History RETSHIDISITSWE: Mathematics

WHAT’S THE PLAN AFTER COMPLETING SCHOOL? TSHENOLO: I’m planning to study Commercial law or Bcom Accounting and obviously, while studying I’ll continue doing what I love which is competing in athletics. RETSHIDISITSWE: I haven’t decided which university I’ll enroll at. But I’d like to study something related to sports, sports science or sports management.

THABO MATIBEDI TSHENOLO’S COACH. First, I’d say, his very talented athlete and a great person to work with who’s very cooperative and disciplined. That makes my job easier he was raised well I think the background from his family also played a huge role in turning him the person he is. He’s got good morals. I admire his personality also, his calm and reserved person he doesn’t get easily blown away by things he is always focused. My plan with him is to turn him into a household name in S/A athletics but before that I want him to get a degree first and my advice to him is to take his career serious and remain dedicated to his career.

RENEILWE APHANE RETSHIDISITSWE’S COACH His a great talent to manage who is fearless always willing to learn and break boundaries. What I like about him is he’s positive attitude and commitment to the game. I want to see him making waves in athletics and my advice to him is that he should remain humble and respectful.
