This is where Ducato motorhomes are made. The SEVEL Val di Sangro plant (in Italy) is Europe's largest for manufacturing vehicles of total weight from 2800 to 4250 kg. It is an integrated factory where production teams are involved to continuously improve quality and processes. Special body-in-white and painting line for factory outfits (ones which do not require later conversions): • special motorhome chassis, Al-Ko interface and wide track • cut roof • pivoting seats and rear overhang setup.

10 million kilometres of tests. Fiat engines are known for their toughness: the thousands of kilometres travelled by Ducato based motorhomes on holiday roads are the proof. Stingent tests are carried out: • over 10 million kilometres on all types of road, at all temperatures and in all weather conditions • special prototypes alcove motorhomes to guarantee the best performance at all times even with large frontal surfaces.

Fiat Camper Assistance: • helps motorhome owners in case of breakdown, failure, accident, empty fuel tank, flat battery, loss of keys, partial theft and more • if needed provides interpreter services to help customers communicate with roadside rescue teams • keeps in direct contact with the customer until the motorhome can be put back on the road • the service is free for the first 24 months after registration. All services are listed in a special European warranty booklet dedicated exclusively to motorhome owners. 13

Relaxing, cost-effective driving. Comfort-Matic is a robotised mechanical gearbox: it has a clutch but opening/closing is managed by a control unit and actuated by small robots working inside. The left foot rests and the driver's attention is less toiled. • In "AUTO" mode driving is as relaxing and costeffective as ever. • The UP button is designed specifically for motorhomes: it optimises gearshifts on steep up and downhill gradients and when travelling at full load.

Comfort-Matic, special functions. The gearbox can work in three modes: • All automatic, with gear shifts decided autonomously by the control unit • Semiautomatic, and the driver can “suggest” when to shift remaining in AUTO mode • Manual, and the driver can shift gears sequentially by tapping on the joystick.

Comfort-Matic has all the following special functions in automatic mode: • Cold engine. Shifts are controlled during cold starts to keep emissions down. • Brake Assistance. The system shifts down when the brakes are applied suddenly to help slowing down and stopping. • Kick Down. The systems shifts down when the accelerator is suddenly floored to guarantee more pick up. • Fast Off. The system does not shift up if the accelerator is released suddenly to provide engine brake.

Manual gearboxes. Two 6-speed manual gearboxes have been developed to exploit all the power and torque of the 130 Multijet, 150 Multijet and 180 Multijet Power engines: • optimised for working with agility in heavy load conditions, particularly on mixed roads and uphill • ensure quick, silent running on long hauls.

The elements of trouble-free travelling: ESP. Fiat Ducato has always been known for its excellent road holding. Despite this, the unexpected can always happen: with ninth-generation ESP and the new Traction Plus travelling is even more trouble-free. ESP: electronic stability control monitors vehicle direction and movement of the wheels. In case of need (risk of swerving), the system cuts in by applying the brakes to the single wheels or slowing down the vehicle by reducing engine power.

ESP integrates: • ASR (Anti Slip Regulation) to avoid wheel slip when starting off • Hill Holder keeps the vehicle still when starting uphill • HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assistance) helps in emergency braking • LAC (Load Adaptive Control) controls load conditions to control ESP, ASR and ABS interventions.

Easy tackling of different terrain. Traction Plus Easy to tackle mud, snow, sand or grass. The electronic “smart differential” system removes torque from a slipping drive wheel in case of need and transfers it to the wheel with the best grip. It is activated:

• up to 30 km/h • only when needed, by pressing the specific button • no extra vehicle weight.

Start&Stop: the engine runs only when it is needed. Queues and red lights are not only a waste of time: they also waste fuel and generate emissions which can be saved. Start&Stop automatically stops the engine when the vehicle stops and restarts it when the clutch is pressed or the brake is released. The starter motor power is appropriately boosted. Available on 130 and 150 Multijet, it allows to save up to 15% on urban cycles.

Handling and safety. Fiat Ducato has always been known for its excellent handling. The elements which contribute to this effect are: 1. Chassis 2. Suspensions 3. Braking system and passenger protection systems 4. Tyres

1. Rigid, robust chassis On the road, the chassis of Ducato stands out particularly because it is extremely rigid and robust, despite its low tare: 172.000 DaNm/rad of torsion rigidity.

2. Always important, even more so for motorhomes. The suspension system is important for loading capacity, handling and comfort. Thousands of hours of off and on-vehicle tests in motorhome configuration confirmed the excellent, tried-and-tested layout: • Front McPherson independent wheels suspension • Rear rigid axle with special motorhome parabolic leaf springs • Standard front and rear anti-roll bar • Specific reinforced springs for motorhome versions.

Front suspensions have a mechanical crossmember fixed to the body which supports all the elements of the front suspension. The rear suspensions have leaf springs fixed to the body and a parabolic curvature specifically designed for motorhomes and various other optimisations.

3. Active and passive safety. Fiat Ducato has the following standard equipment: • front and rear disc brakes • ABS, to prevent wheel locking • EBD, which distributes the braking force between front and rear axle • available equipment includes new-generation ESP (generation 9) with Traction Plus.

Standard passive safety equipment includes: • double stage driver's air bag • three-point seat belts with seat belt reminder warning light and buzzer • cab with reinforced pillars • front deformable crash box for absorbing minor collisions • passenger airbag (the only item which is not standard).

Other safety features. • Integral cab crash protection, for total safety in case of collision • collapsible steering wheel column, to avoid chest injuries in front collisions • plastic, low intrusion pedal board, to avoid injuries to feet and legs • seats with rigid front crosspiece and antisubmarining padding to prevent driver and passenger from slipping under the seat belt.

4. Special tyres suitable for long parking. Ducato motorhome bases fit tubeless radial tyres special for motorhomes, capable of withstanding long parking in the open or in garages. • Ducato range: 215/70 R15 • Ducato Maxi range: 225/75 R16 IN CASE OF PUNCTURES (according to versions): • Special Fix & Go for motorhomes, with boosted power compressor capable of easily restoring the necessary pressure in the tyre • Lift is available to easily and effortlessly lowering the spare wheel.

Driving is part of the holiday. The driver's seat of Ducato is designed to ensure a good driving experience: • seat and backrest with many adjustments • adjustable steering wheel providing with comfortable, car-like inclination. Hydraulic power steering • minimum effort when manoeuvring at slow speed • variable assistance according to speed on 180 Multijet Power.

And more: • plenty of space between seats for crossing from cab to living pod • handbrake arranged on the driver's right to improve clearance, facilitate access to the pod and use the cab as part of the dinette when provided with pivoting seats • gear lever on dashboard.

Climate control and ventilation • The air flow reaches the entire cab homogenously and not aggressively, promptly generating all the required comfort • Tempered windows and mirrors are easily demisted and defrosted. Also: • setup for original equipment rear heater supplied with chassis.

From the steering wheel to the dining table. Ducato also offers pivoting seats to use the cab space as part of the dinette.

Two versions: A. Front seats on pivoting plate, type-approved by Fiat, for excellent stability and reliability. They can turn by 180째. They are provided with two foam padded, heightadjustable armrests. Once turned, the seats can slide forward to move closer to the dinette. B. Integral pivoting front seats with fitted threepoint seat belts. They can turn by 180째. They are provided with two upholstered armrests, fore/ aft and height adjustment, adjustable backrest, upholstered, adjustable head restraints, seat base guards.

Panoramic view, easy on the ear. Ducato designers worked all round on acoustic and vibration comfort issues. They focused on: • door hinges and windows to eliminate all wind noise • suspensions to filter vibrations from the road • engines which increase performance but not noise • intake system with resonators to optimise engine sound • large body but rigid and quiet at the same time • soundproofing treatments with innovative materials and mixtures injected into the cavities.
