TEACHING in MONGOLIA
MONGOLIA Mongolia is a sparsely populated country bordered by Russia to the north and China to the south. It has a rich culture, a fascinating history and spectacular scenery. In 1990, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, Mongolia became a parliamentary democracy and embraced the free market. Mining, cashmere, and herding dominate the economy. Mongolia has substantial mineral reserves and one of the biggest copper mines in the world. Ulaanbaatar is a relatively safe city (e.g. the police don’t carry guns), and there is a good choice of cinemas, coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, and shopping malls. The Mongolian language is written in Cyrillic, and can be learned with more than a little effort.
ABOUT US Talk Talk English was established in 2007 and over the last ten years has become a highly-respected English language provider. Our language centre is popular with high school and university students, career professionals, national and international corporations, NGOs, and government departments.
LANGUAGE CENTRE We have a teaching team of 10 native speakers (mostly American) and 4 Mongolian English teachers. Students can study general English, IELTS preparation, and business English. In class, we focus on speaking and listening using a range of teaching techniques to keep our students fully engaged. Our lessons are fast paced and fun to teach.
HIGH SCHOOL INITIATIVE In 2015, Sukhbaatar District Education Department, with support of the Ministry of Education, invited us to provide training and a new English language syllabus to three State sector high schools. The programme was very successful and has been extended into the academic year 2017 - 2018.
OLONLOG ACADEMY From September 2017, we will work together with Olonlog Academy, a new private school, to provide high quality English language lessons to Years 1-12. Patrick Kennedy, our Education Director, is currently recruiting the Olonlog teaching team and he is keen to hear from people who would like to work with primary and secondary school children.
TEACHER TRAINING Our experience training State sector teachers over the last five years has provided us with important insights into the needs of Mongolian English language teachers. Recognising a need for continual professional development training in the State sector, we are launching a series of teacher training courses in the upcoming academic year.
ONLINE LEARNING In 2011, we developed an advanced online vocabulary learning system to help our students learn and retain more words. Our online vocabulary learning system can be accessed at www.talktalkenglish.com
HIPPO BOOKS We launched Hippo Books in 2014 to encourage our students to read more. Our books are distributed to our language centre and high school students, and sold on Amazon and in local book stores.
