13th Annual
2013 ART FESTIVAL
Chain of Parks Festival Co-Chairs Kelly Dozier and Charles Tunnicliff
Saturday & Sunday April 20-21, 2013 10 am to 5 pm
Welcome to the 13th LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival. We hope that you will enjoy yourself as you walk through the parks and the beautiful setting in downtown Tallahassee while you visit over 145 artists’ tents and see the fascinating array of art works on display.
Mission Statement
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Festival Committee who has worked diligently since the day after the 12th festival to make this year’s festival even better. This year we welcomed a new subcommittee chair to our team – Taylore Maxey – Public Relations and Marketing Chair. Returning again to help with the Festival were Robbyn Whitlock – Entertainment Chair; Terrie Brooks – Food & Beverage Chair; and Heather Dunbar – Volunteer Coordinator. With the help of their sub-committee members they have done a fantastic job!
The LeMoyne Chain of Parks Art Festival is established to present an outdoor festival of high quality, original artwork and entertainment for the enjoyment of our Tallahassee area residents and and regional artists and raising needed funds for the operation of LeMoyne Center for the Visual Arts.
Contents
Don’t forget to visit the Festival Souvenir and Information tent to pick up a beautiful festival poster, note cards or t-shirt featuring the “Slice of Color” by Gustavo Castillo. They make artful gifts for anyone and a nice souvenir of your weekend at the festival, while supporting LeMoyne. There are all sorts of food vendors offering a wide variety of delicious dining on Calhoun Street as well as wine and beer for your refreshment. Grab a seat in the food court on Calhoun Street and listen to the entertainers on stage, or eat and drink as you wander through Bloxham and Lewis Parks looking at art.

2013 Festival Cover Artist Gustavo Castillo This year’s Chain of Parks Art Festival cover artist is Gustavo Castillo. His work, “Slice of Color,” graces the festival magazine, t-shirts and posters this year. Originally from Columbia, Castillo moved to the United States in 1986 and worked as a commercial
Living in Tallahassee from 1988 to 2000, Castillo has participated in LeMoyne’s Chain of Parks Art Festival for last year’s Festival, he displayed his larger works that were reminiscent of him and his wife’s Chilean and Columbian heritage. His images move naturally from familiar shapes and colors to near-pure abstract interactions of form and color that is equally spirited and deeply gratifying. Castillo’s work has an abstract foundation and playfully addresses images and colors. Gustavo Castillo is currently living in Jupiter, Florida, with his wife. For more information on Gustavo Castillo, visit www. CastilloLagosStudio.com.
pilot. It was his wife, Carmen Lagos, who turned him on to painting. She gave him lessons and they began painting and traveling together to a myriad of art festivals for more than two decades.
2013 Festival Judges James Langley Artist, James Langley earned an MFA from the Graduate School of Figurative Art at The New York Academy of Art and his BFA at the Rhode Island School of Design. In the two decades since he has developed a diverse body of figurative work inspired by the desire to give contemporary expression to traditional concepts and practices. Langley paints on commission from his Savannah based studio and he also teaches drawing, life drawing and portraiture in the School of Foundation Studies at Savannah College of Art and Design where he was recently received the SCAD Presidential Fellowship Award. Langley’s drawings and paintings can be found in private and corporate collections and have been exhibited internationally in Ireland, France, Spain and Italy, as well as in American venues. Langley’s work has also been published in The Magazine Antiques, American Artist Magazine, Catholic World Report and SCAD Magazine.
Karin Murray Karin Murray, a Native of Germany, is currently an Associate Professor of Art, Valdosta State University and teaches Drawing and Painting. She has a Master of Fine Arts, University of Alabama, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Troy State University. Her area of specialization is Painting/Drawing and Printmaking. She strives for individual and universal content in her own works through the use of personal symbols with limited color. On a formal level, she is interested in the notion of composition and how the parts relate to form the whole, and her work contains a variety of mediums working with experimental approaches to see what might be discovered during the creative process. “Art is itself a universal language and a potent source of self-knowledge and creation” —Karin Murray
