his is an exciting time marked by new beginnings, renewal and returning back to school and work. For many, mindfulness is the key to meeting the moment as we are still in unprecedented times with uncertainty and incessant change as experienced over the last year and a half. Practicing mindfulness has been my self-care strategy throughout this pandemic, taking time to appreciate each moment, taking walks, focusing on the here and now and appreciating my family, faith, friends, nature and all the small things for which I am also grateful. Mindfulness can help us manage stress and anticipatory anxiety as we chart a new course or deal with the stressors of change. With every challenge, there is an opportunity. I think everyone has a greater appreciation for all the blessings that
may have been taken for granted, considering this moment in time. Take time to connect with those you love and care about as we know tomorrow is not promised. On the cover is Attorney General Ashley Moody, a mother, wife, leader and advocate who is passionate about helping others and finding solutions to some tough challenges such as human trafficking. She watched her mother raise children and go to school, which provided an excellent example of retooling in order to chart a new course. I know her story will inspire you, written by Erin Collins, another dynamic woman. or Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, her upbringing as the daughter of a judge and a lawyer, led her to a legal career where she worked in private practice, as a federal prosecutor, as the youngest judge elected in the state and ultimately as the state’s top lawyer. But as she recently told me, much of her work now is inf luenced and inspired by her husband Justin, a federal law enforcement agent, and young son Connor. Attorney General Moody is the first woman to serve on Florida’s Cabinet with a school-aged child. Like many parents, stepparents and guardians, she balances her roles and responsibilities (including as a travel baseball mom) by keeping a detailed schedule and calendar. Whether protecting the rights of Floridians or supporting law enforcement, Attorney General Moody is a staunch advocate for truth and justice. And there is no stronger force than a woman on a mission…
Erin Collins
Erin Collins is Executive Director of the Florida Alliance to End Human Trafficking, a nonprofit organization created by the Florida Legislature to provide funding, support and assistance to the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking. Erin has nearly two decades of experience in advocacy, communications and public policy. She previously served in the administrations of Governor Ron DeSantis and Governor Rick Scott. Prior to her role in state government, she served as a consultant with National Strategies, a state and local government consulting firm, assisting clients with business development and procurement-related activities. Erin also held various positions with Florida TaxWatch, an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit taxpayer research institute and government watchdog. Erin is a past statewide chair of the Junior Leagues of Florida State Public Affairs Committee and currently serves on its Board of Directors. She is a Sustainer member of the Junior League of Tallahassee, having served in various leadership roles over the last ten years. She is an active member of Florida Blue Key, Capital Area Gator Club and Leadership Tallahassee Class 39. Erin is married to Len Collins and has two stepdaughters, Danielle and Olivia.

A lifelong passion of hers, Dana Brooks has crossed over into the writing sphere and has written a book titled Functional Feminism, a book that encourages readers to reinvent the term “feminism” and utilize it in a broader and less restrictive sense. Brooks argues that feminism is incredibly personal and has different meanings to different people, claiming via a WFSU Public Media interview that “At its core, it's about choice”. By the same token, Brooks also stresses the importance of getting non-women involved in the feminist movement. All in all, through her powerful words, Brooks has one final goal: to inspire a sense of global empowerment. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dana Brooks is one of Tallahassee’s most infamous lawyers, specializing in personal injury and medical malpractice. However, her background reaches far beyond the bounds of law, as she is also a paralegal, a certified family law mediator, and a mental health counselor. Suffice to say, she is not only a proud member of the Tallahassee community but an integral one at that.

Cash App & Venmo A new way to get and give cash!

I
n the world of mobile banking, there are two apps that stand out above all the rest: Cash App and Venmo. Much like the Coke versus Pepsi debate, I am a firm believer that you cannot go wrong with either option. It depends on your personal preferences and has little to do with the distinctive features of the apps. Cash App, known for its simple dollar sign logo, makes it possible to virtually send and accept money within seconds. There’s only one catch: if you want to make an instant deposit, Cash App takes out a small percentage. Other than that, the app is straightforward and easy to use. All Cash App accounts are linked to a unique “$cashtag” which serves as a username. The app has started to expand its horizons. For as little as a dollar, anyone with an account can invest in stocks. As Bitcoin becomes more popular, Cash App also lets its users convert their money into the new currency.
Another favorite amongst online bankers is Venmo, which seems to be the more “social” of the two apps. The premise of Venmo is quite similar to Cash App’s. You can pay your friends, or they can pay you, but businesses also have the option to use Venmo. Venmo lets the user send a nice message complete with a fun emoji/ sticker that can add an individualized touch to any transaction. Unlike Cash App, Venmo keeps a running log of your transactions that other people can look at. If that makes you feel a little bit uneasy, there is an option to keep all of your transactions private, which I would recommend. No matter which you prefer, it seems inevitable that future generations will continue to embrace online banking and its wonders. The digital age is upon us and we should enjoy the features that accompany it.

all brings a sense of newness. It’s the season of harvesting and gathering. With it comes change; a change in colors, a change in aromas and even a change in our sense of taste. Fall is my favorite time of year because with all of its natural splendor and beauty, it is a season for coming together. I am reminded of the carnivals that descend upon our cities and small towns and the fall festivals we all look forward to each year. We anxiously crave our favorite pastime foodies such as funnel cake, candy apples and pumpkin spice latte in anticipation for fall. Fall is the season that we gather together for major sports to cheer on our favorite teams. It is the time of year that children, and adults alike, love to make smores around the bonfire and take hikes to enjoy the fall foliage. Some of our most beloved and dearest holidays are in the fall. Simply put, fall is an extraordinary time of year. Here are some tips to help you bring this remarkable season into your home.
1
“Spring cleaning” isn’t just for Spring! For this reason, I have always preferred the term “seasonal cleaning.” The first week of fall is a great time to declutter and deep clean. Wash or dry clean draperies. Call out the carpet cleaning crew. Wipe down those baseboards, blinds and windows. Think newness! Bring the outdoors in! I love using organic

materials such as twigs, pinecones and stones from outdoors. Not only is this a great way to save on cost, it also gives a more authentic feel of the outdoors than using artificial décor. Use twigs to create a beautiful table centerpiece. Stone or pinecones can be placed into a clear or wooden bowl and placed on an entryway table or a bathroom counter.

of centerpieces... Replace your centerpiece with lanterns, pumpkins or gourds for a unique look. Of course you can never go wrong with a traditional Fall floral arrangement.
4 Wreaths
aren’t just for front doors! Neither are they only for Christmas. Wreaths are a very simple way to bring in the fall or any season for that matter. Add a wreath on top of a mirror or wooden wall art for a touch of Fall indoors.
5 “Fall” in love with scents! Nothing says Fall like the smell of cinnamon, pumpkin and vanilla. What better way to bring these aromas in your home than with candles? Place candles throughout your home. Use them throughout the day and fill your home with the smell of Fall.
6 Give a little TLC (Texture, Linen and Color). Add colorful pillows and throws to a sofa or fireplace hearth.
7 Don’t
forget the fireplace. Whether you use your fireplace or not, it is usually the focal point in a room so be sure to add touches of Fall. Place a pillow on the hearth. Place assorted natural woven balls in a bowl to set on the hearth. Fill a basket with throw to place by the fireplace. Change your wall art above the mantle.
8 Use your color scheme! No matter what
your color scheme is, there is something for you. Fall is full of beautiful bright reds, oranges and yellows but Fall also has an array of neutrals so don’t be afraid to go outside of the box.
3 Keep
it simple! You don’t have to overthink it to make your home feel like Fall. Whether you change out one thing or one hundred, Fall is all about the way your home feels and how you feel about your home. You can add touches to one room or all rooms. Just make sure you Fall in love with the space you create.

Choosing the right plants for your home or business

our front door entryway reflects the personality of your space. This is why front door container design is one of the most popular advice areas here at Tallahassee Nurseries. Choosing the right plants for your home or business is the best way to ensure their lifespan and prolonged beauty. Important and sometimes overlooked, several factors play a crucial role in the longevity of your plants. These factors include the amount of sunlight the plants receive, the plants' seasonality and your watering habit commitment. Sun exposure is the main factor to consider when deciding which plants to use in any location. For full-sun conditions, you can plant petunias, salvias, mums, ornamental peppers, violas and alyssum. In shaded areas, it is recommended to wait until it’s cool enough to add ornamental cabbages, kale, mustards and ivy. My personal favorite plants are versatile enough to be used in sun or shade, such as dusty miller, cyclamen and crotons. As a rule of thumb, the brighter the location the more color and fullness is expected from your plants. Once you have an idea of which plants are suitable for your location, have fun with it! I encourage you to play with different colors, textures and leaf sizes. It is also fashionable to add silk flowers, accents and colorful dry branches into arrangements. There is no wrong way to style plants, although it is helpful to understand the intended timing of a particular arrangement, such as upcoming holiday seasons. There is always room to rearrange

ha’Ron James is an outstanding woman and leader in Tallahassee. She has represented domestic and international insurance companies and insurance-related entities throughout Florida, before the Florida Legislature, Office of Insurance Regulation, and other state agencies. Sha’Ron’s involvement in the community emphasizes her dedication to economic development, diversity and inclusion, and public service. What inspires you?
What inspires me the most is my desire to make a difference. My goal is to have an impact and leave a legacy.
What matters most? Fairness and equity matter to me the most. I know this may sound strange, but I have a unique superpower that allows me to see patterns, trends, and gaps. That, coupled with being an empath, makes me sensitive to the need to call out what is unfair and to fix it.
How do you empower women? I empower women by being authentic, accessible, and a mentor.
Most important value? I value my faith over everything else. I believe that my faith is the only compass I need to navigate everything else. That’s it. That’s all.
What does success mean to you? To me, success simply means freedom, the freedom to do,
be, or buy whatever your heart desires. My secret to success is to be intentional about what your heart desire is and then work backwards. By doing that it forces you to set goals and it helps you look back and be grateful for how far you have come.
As a mother, how are you inspired? My daughter is my inspiration. We all want our children to have a better life than ours. But I believe that equality of opportunity can change bloodlines not just a single generation. So, I’m working to make sure that my daughter and others have equal access to the opportunities that lead to a better life.
Your greatest influence? My mom was the most influential woman in my life. She was beautiful inside and out- strong, smart, kind, selfless, and wise. She passed away in 2010. Her death has challenged me in many ways but most of all I realized how it important it was for me to be like her every day.

ey Robyn! Tell us a little bit about your role at Voices for Florida. My name is Robyn Metcalf and I’m the Statewide Director for the Open Doors Outreach Network at Voices for Florida. The Open Doors Outreach Network provides 24/7 traumacompetent and survivor-centered services to survivors of sex trafficking ages 10 – 24 across Florida. Voices for Florida is the backbone organization to the Open Doors Outreach Network
sex trafficking age 10-24. The young adults we serve (18-24) have engaged in sex acts in exchange for anything of value (money, drugs, shelter, food, etc.) through the use of force, fraud, or coercion. We also service minors (under age 18) and, legally, the use of force, fraud, or coercion does not have to be present to be considered trafficking in these cases.
Tell us a little bit about what you do, day to day.
According to Polaris, there was a 40% increase in reports of sex trafficking nationwide during the Covid-19 pandemic. Florida is a hot spot for human trafficking, ranking third in the nation for reports to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. In 2019 alone, there were almost 900 reports of human trafficking in Florida. Over 19% of these reports involved minors. In just one 2020 investigation, the Tallahassee Police Department made 178 arrests for human trafficking activity. Statewide, the Open Doors Outreach Network has served over 1200 victims of sex trafficking ages 10-24. The average age of a child sex trafficking victim is just 12-14.
As Statewide Director, I collaborate with our Network Providers to ensure that Open Doors services are survivor-centered, trauma-informed, and utilizing promising best practices, while maintaining high quality and consistency across all regions. We partner with local organizations to provide services to victims across the state. Survivors often move around the state throughout their recovery, and when they move to another Open Doors region, our Network helps them pick up where they left off.

Human trafficking is an umbrella term for all forms of trafficking. It involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. In the Open Doors Outreach Network, we serve survivors of

Doors Outreach Network are supported through a team approach. This team consists of Survivor-Mentors, Regional Advocates, Clinicians and Victim Service Coordinators that work together to create and administer individualized plans to promote healing. The team also provides crisis intervention, mentoring, clinical counseling and case management, personal and court advocacy, information and referral, and community awareness and training. Each region within the Open Doors Outreach Network has a 24/7/365 referral phone number for services. To find the phone number for your community, please visit voicesforflorida.org. We have also partnered with Whole Child Leon to expand the Open Doors Outreach Network to serve the Big Bend region. Services began in Summer 2021.
What are the long-term impacts what can they do? on mental health for survivors The first step to helping survivors and their families? is awareness Visit our website Beyond safety, necessities, and immediate crisis intervention, survivors and their families need longer term help to overcome effects of trauma. We know from research that high ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) scores can lead to negative impacts long-term, including decreased life expectancy and additional vulnerability to an array of physical mental health complications. Depression, anxiety, PTSD, and vulnerability to substance misuse are common to many survivors. The trauma of trafficking often leaves a lasting imprint, and often can leave survivors and their loved ones reeling. The bottom line is that the impact of trafficking on survivors and their families cannot be underestimated.

I
t is no surprise that Ashley Moody pursued a legal career.
Her grandfather served in the state legislature and later served as the presiding judge of the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court in the mid-1960s, where she would later serve as the state’s youngest judge. Her father is a federal judge and her mother attended law school while raising young children. Fairness and justice were key issues and themes growing up in the Moody household. The eldest of three children born to Carol and Judge James Moody, Jr., Ashley Brooke Moody is a fifth generation Floridian born and raised in Plant City, Florida. (She even held the title of Florida Strawberry Festival Queen.) Moody attended the University of Florida where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting and law. She attended Stetson University College of Law earning a Master of Laws in International Law. She would go on to intern for longtime Tallahassee resident Martha Barnett (then president of the American Bar Association), and later joined the law firm Holland & Knight, where she practiced commercial litigation. She subsequently joined the United States Attorney’s Office prosecuting drug, firearm, and fraud offenses. While a federal prosecutor,

Moody was commended by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency for prosecutorial excellence and outstanding initiative in drug law enforcement. She was also recognized by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for her lead of “Operation Round-Up,” a targeted prosecution of violent and repeat offenders. As a judge, Moody founded an attorney ad litem program recruiting volunteer attorneys to stand in the place of parents who did not appear in court with their children. She also developed a mentoring program for at-risk children within the juvenile delinquency system. But Moody found the role of a judge to be (at times) reactive and wanted to have a hand in identifying solutions. So, she ran to be the state’s top lawyer in 2018. “My mother went back to law school when I was in school. I thought that was a really strange thing as a kid but watching her balance three young children gave me inspiration to know that I could run a statewide campaign and be Attorney General with a young child,” Moody said. Moody was also compelled to run for Attorney General because of her husband, Justin, a federal law enforcement officer. “I cannot say more about the influence of my husband on my decision to run. He is a law enforcement officer and law enforcement has been presented with numerous challenges over the past decade. They have really struggled to maintain a morale during a lot of challenges. Now, I have made it a priority to ensure they have the best and brightest and the tools to recruit and train within their offices. I do that not only because I have a profound respect for the law enforcement ranks [because of my background as a prosecutor and judge], but because I also see firsthand as a wife of a law enforcement officer the care and commitment and sacrifices they make when they

sign up for these incredibly dangerous jobs, said Moody. As Florida’s 38th Attorney General, Ashley Moody has prioritized supporting law enforcement, protecting vulnerable populations, and advocating for survivors of exploitation and abuse. “I have a lot of priorities. But the perspective I have on issues from being a mom makes me more passionate and engaged,” Moody said. Whether it is underage child vaping to protecting children from human traffickers and sex offenders, Attorney General Moody has been focused and detail-oriented about solving these atrocities and making a difference. In addition to her work supporting law enforcement and ensuring the safety of all Floridians, Attorney General Moody has several other key initiatives that she has implemented during her time in office. The Senior Protection Team within the Office of the Attorney General are highly skilled attorneys and investigators that are laser focused on identifying, investigating and eliminating fraud and abuse harming Florida seniors, according to her website. Moody’s, “Back the Blue” campaign highlights law enforcement officers, citizens and organizations taking extraordinary steps to forge positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The mission of the campaign is to commend Florida’s brave law enforcement and the Floridians who back them. As a mom, Attorney General Moody knows the importance of drugabuse prevention programs. Dose of Reality is a website aimed at increasing awareness, education and prevention efforts to stop the misuse of prescription painkillers, warn about the dangers of illicit opioid use, heighten awareness about opioid addiction and ultimately save lives. The website provides individuals, health care providers, teachers,
coaches, and others with opioid-related resources in one location to serve as a one-stop shop for Floridians seeking help. Dose of Reality also includes details on prevention methods, safe pain management and storage of prescription drugs and guidelines on responding to an overdose. There is also a map of the state’s take-back locations that accept prescription opioids for safe disposal. Many of the issues Attorney General Moody is focused on can be overwhelming and heart wrenching. But as a working mom, she is unwavering and dedicated in her support for the people closest to her and there are no days off. “…from the opioid epidemic to human trafficking to serving on the Cabinet but balancing all of that with being a travel baseball mom and making sure I am on the bleachers and rooting for a little guy, providing all the necessary hugs...that is a challenge, and I did not realize that it was something new to our Cabinet until we started down this road.” Since taking office as Attorney General, Moody has been recognized as a leader having served as a Commissioner on the Presidential Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice, as Chair of Florida’s Statewide Task Force on Opioid Abuse and continues to serve as Chair of Florida’s Statewide Council on Human Trafficking. Attorney General Ashley Moody and her husband Justin have two sons, Brandon and Connor. Their oldest son Brandon is serving in the United States Army. With all her roles, including as the state’s top lawyer, wife and mother, Moody also enjoys being a mentor to young women just starting their careers. “I find it almost incumbent upon me, to as I think of things, as I manage these roles, offer advice right then. We could be walking from the car to a meeting and if something comes to me because I dealt with it that morning, I will offer them a piece

of advice. I am trying to impart these tips even when it is based on something that I haven’t done well. I want the person that comes after me to do it well. So, I will always share ways of managing it successfully but maybe ways of managing how I could have done it better.” Moody says organization is the key. “I know people know that and have some form of organization in their lives. It’s going to be different for every person, every job, each individual circumstance. But I think as women, we will organize our lives down to the minute professionally and then make sure our kids’ schedules are on the calendar and to the best of our ability, we get them to every practice, game, school assignment. We have got all that organized. But where we drop the ball is when it comes to ourselves. We are always trying to squeeze in those other things that may be very important to our lives. But when I am best at being a mom, at being the Attorney General, and whatever I’m seeking to do, is when I have also managed time to schedule time for me and all of the other roles in my life - daughter, friend, wife, all of these other things are also roles we want to engage and be good at. We just haven’t made it a practice to put it into our organizational methods. While we will focus on jobs and our kids, we need to make sure the other roles are accounted for and whatever organization we choose to apply. I found when I did that, it just gave me more space to be effective in all those roles and one of those is obviously taking care of and respecting myself and my well-being,” Moody emphasized. Like any working parent, Attorney General Moody says it has been a trial-and-error process along the way. “I have to be fiercely guarded of my time with my family, who are such a priority in my life, and at the same time, ensure that I am fulfilling the responsibility that has been entrusted to me by the voters and citizens of Florida.” She says what defines her now is protecting the rights of Floridians
whose security and safety is most valuable because she wants to ensure a vibrant, thriving and successful Florida for all that follow her, including her sons. “I think that everybody, it does not matter what role you are in, wants to be a positive influence in the world around them. I get my inspiration from many folks. Whether that is my husband who is an incredible father and law enforcement officer, seeing the world through the eyes of my young son, or from a family tradition of reverence to the rule of law,” said Attorney General Moody. Moody also said the people and networks around her provide motivation and energy too. “When I see people that I work with get excited about what we can do for Florida, how we can use our talents and experiences, the laws and understanding of what’s going on in the lives of law enforcement, communities or certain groups around the state, we develop a plan, a strategy and accomplish something together to better the lives of Floridians and Americans, that is incredibly inspiring. It keeps pushing me on to do more.” Moody left her seat as a judge to run for Attorney General which some found as a surprise. But she listened to her intuition and what she felt she was compelled to do. She now encourages others to do the same. “If something interests you and inspires you, moves you, pay attention to that. If you can make it part of your routine or what you’re doing within your community, it’s so rewarding. Oftentimes it’s making a significant career change or other times it means volunteering outside of your professional lives for other activities. ave you ever thought about the perfect getaway for a day trip? Think no more! Within thirty minutes from Tallahassee you can find yourself in picturesque Wakulla Springs - the largest freshwater springs in the world. I start my day by renting a kayak from TnT Hideaway, Inc. If kayaking isn’t your thing, they also have two or three person canoes, stand up paddle boards, and bikes for rent. While floating down the river the hustle and bustle of Tally drifts away as turtles, alligators, and my person favorite – manatees become your new best friends. The river starts at an underground spring located in Edward Ball
Wakulla Springs State Park that eventually flows into the Gulf of Mexico. Locals say the springs' name comes from a Seminole word that means “mysterious of strange water”. If the area seems erringly familiar to you that’s because films like "Creature from the Black Lagoon" (1954) and "Tarzan’s Secret Treasure" (1941) were filmed there. I like to finish my day trip by stopping at the Wakulla Springs Lodge. The Spanish style lodge and restaurant is a treat in and of itself. Built in the 1930’s it’s known as North Florida’s castle and home of the world’s longest marble soda fountain. Depending on my mood, I might jump in the spring off the
diving board (it used to be much taller) before heading into The Edward Ball Dining Room to grab a bite to eat. As I make my way out, I always say goodbye to Old Joe - the 11-foot alligator I grew up seeing as a child (rumor has it he was 300 years old) who was beloved by locals. If I am really feeling nostalgic, I give the penny machine a try to see which animal from the area will be imprinted on it. Will it be an alligator, Florida panther, or manatee this time (can you guess which one I am always hoping for)? These are the treats we sometimes take for granted while living in North Florida. All beaches aren’t created equal. I have to confess, I’m a bona fide beach snob. Nothing less than a powderygrained, pure-sugary-white beach will do. Rough, pebble-filled shades of blah-beige-to-brown sand simply fail to summon views of paradise. Charting a New Course Post-Covid: Reflection and Rethinking

he lockdown spurred by COVID-19 forced millions of people to reflect on and reprioritize what was really important in their lives. The ability to work remotely demonstrated how much could be accomplished from home, so many people quit their jobs, returned to school, and explored new opportunities, including entrepreneurial pursuits. The traditional job with health benefits and numerous other perks no longer motivates many Americans to commit to the seemingly old norm. If you are thinking about charting a new course to focus on priorities such as work satisfaction, work-life balance, flexibility, family, happiness or mental health wellness, consider these strategies to begin the process. 1. Clearly define your career goals and work objectives. What industry do you want to be in? Do you desire a flexible work environment? Write a reflection journal to organize your thoughts and capture your dreams. 2. Make a concerted effort to invest in yourself by retooling and gaining a new skill. You may want to complete a professional certificate or an advanced degree that will make you even more marketable and open doors of new opportunities. Congratulations on taking the forced time-out as an opportunity to start a passion project! You’re wise to concern yourself with protecting your work and why not make money doing what you love?
Here’s a few tips: Own your domain name, preferably with a .com suffix. Even if you aren’t interested in the website right now, owning your domain takes it out of the marketplace and if someone else wants it, they have to buy it from you. It also legitimizes the content you’re pushing on other platforms so viewers and consumers take you more seriously. Buy your domain name early and for as long as you can to avoid getting into a bidding war over it after you’ve put the work into making it successful. Depending on your goals, consider buying your own name, especially if it’s relatively common. Protect your content. You probably obtained an ISBN number when you published your book. While that helps with ordering and selling the book, managing inventory, and increases the likelihood that readers will see your book, it does not legally protect your content.

You’ll need a copyright registration to do that which requires filing an application with the copyright office. Owning a book copyright gives you control over reproduction, distribution, and public performance, etc., of your book. Copyright does not, however, give you any exclusive rights related to the book title. Consider a trademark. If you have published a series of works (e.g. Harry Potter), or, if you are providing educational services under the mark or brand, you can apply for a trademark. This could be podcasts, workshops or seminars on birding based on your original content. Note, simply the act of publishing a book under the mark does not qualify as “educational services.” You don’t necessarily have to be paid for the educational services, you just have to advertise and deliver the services. You have to promote the services under the mark or brand and use them in close association with
the educational services provided. E.g., “Join Barbara on this week’s Bringing Birding Back podcast where we’ll be learning about …” Artwork Your original artwork on the book cover is usually protected by copyright. Again, you’d need to file an application with the copyright office and there is a form to use for that. Show me the money! Even if you self-publish your book, you can work with online publishing experts to launch campaigns to grow your audience far beyond your own contacts. These campaigns are surprisingly affordable. Kindle Direct Publishing is an excellent source. A book also establishes you as an expert in your field. That often leads to paid speaking engagements and opportunities to get in front of a wider audience. Even if you give away your book or have it on a table in the back at your speaking engagements, it grows your brand and legitimizes you among the amateurs in your field. Personally, I use mine to generate contacts and leads for my personal injury law firm, which is far more lucrative to me than book sales or paid speaking engagements. To monetize your podcast, I suggest first growing your audience. You can do that quickly and easily by featuring high level guests who are influencers with a heavy social media presence. By promoting themselves being a featured guest, they necessarily promote your podcast. Getting soughtafter guests makes it easier to get sponsors for your program, which is how you get paid. As always, spend the money on the front-end to get sound legal and marketing advice. It will save you loads of time and money on the back end fixing costly, avoidable mistakes. e’ve all been there. Whether its work, school, children, or one of our multiple commitments - we have all had an excuse to not exercise. However, there is no need to dwell in the past. What’s important is to be kind to yourself and recognize every day is a new day. Regardless of your previous decisions you can begin your wellness journey as soon as tomorrow if you put your mind to it.

Do what works best for you but establish a plan and stick to it when it comes to water intake. What’s important is that you remember your wellness journey is about doing what is best for you. Give yourself credit when needed and don’t be your own worst critic. It’s called a wellness journey because its exactly that – a journey. It doesn’t happen overnight. It has its ups and downs so it’s important to be patient with yourself, be kind with yourself, and enjoy your journey.

Our Attachment Style is directly related to the parentchild bond, formed in early childhood, by the way our needs were met by one of our parents, as well as other significant relationships in our adult lives; and this determines the ways we attach to others. Childhood trauma, abandonment issues with either parent (Mom or Dad), can cause deep distrust and pain, and your partner or close friend could be a trigger for experiencing these feelings. Your attachment style is especially evident in romantic relationships. These 4 styles are: Secure, Anxious, Avoidant, Disorganized (or fearful-avoidant). How to Build Your Child’s Confidence on Standardized Tests By Dr. Chanta Haywood
“My child does so well in school, but her ACT and SAT scores don’t reflect it.” “My child just does not do well on standardized tests.” “My child has passed his classes but can’t get the required reading score on the state exam to graduate.” If you have made any of these statements about your child’s relationship to standardized tests, you are not alone. For decades, parents, teachers and students have struggled to reconcile the disconnect between their child’s classroom performance and standardized tests scores. Parents oftentimes feel helpless. They buy books, subscribe to websites and even hire tutors to try to give their children a competitive edge. Teachers constantly try to balance the tight rope of ensuring that students master the
content in the class and pass state mandated tests. And of course, there are many students (not all) who are intimidated by the mere mention of the words “standardized test.” Their confidence levels plummet if standardized tests scores do not reflect what they truly know. As a result, students are not able to get into their favorite college, thousands of scholarship dollars go unclaimed, and worst of all, students live a lifetime questioning their skills.
Here are top ways to rectify this predicament through a paradigm shift in test preparation. Know the Test, Not Just the Content

Another key to building student confidence is teaching them that they have two brains – a test brain and a school brain. Connecting GPA and test score performance could erode confidence. When they grasp the idea that standardized tests and teacher tests serve two very different purposes, their confidence level increases. Those are two very different cognitive exercises. No one
can deny that LeBron James is one of the best basketball players alive today. Even his confidence would dwindle significantly if he tried to apply his basketball skills in a baseball game. He is the same athlete and with same skills but with different rules on a different field. That is how it is with students and tests. Same student, but different tests. Once they grasp this idea and learn how to navigate the difference, their confidence improves.

Use Metacognition and Critical Thinking
Code switching between the test brain and school brain requires critical thinking and metacognition. This simply requires what Rasha Abdelrahman describes in a recent study as students’ ability to modify their approach to solving problems based on their use of prior knowledge. For students taking the ACT and SAT, for example, they will do so much better on the science passages if they are taught two things: “how” scientists think and how to apply what they (students) know about the structure of the tests. Students often get intimidated by science passages because they think that they must be experts in science. In actuality, they must know how to read for key information and for why the writers shared certain information. A student who has never learned anything about how hydrogen chloride and ammonia vapors react could read a science passage on this topic and get all of the answers correct by using the information given in the passage, charts and tables. Having the right critical thinking skills will get them to this point. Knowing that they have those will make the science section less intimidating. They will be more confident when taking that section.

There are two test languages. I like to call one teacherese, which is the language of tests written by teachers to ensure you’ve mastered their subject content. I refer to the other is “standardese,” which is the language of tests written by standardized test professionals who are trained to test students’ ability to identify the “best answers.” Students are not intimidated as much by teacher tests. They know the language of their teachers. However, the moment you put them in front of the standardized test where they are less proficient in the language of the test writers, many become anxious and doubt themselves. How can I read and understand the entire passage and still be baffled by the answer choices? Is something wrong me? It is my race? My gender? My intellectual ability? These questions

are legitimate and normal and can be easily answered and resolved by helping students understand the mind of the test writer. This demystifies the entire test and makes them more confident. A famous proverb says that if you give a man a fish, he will eat for that day, but if you teach him how to fish, he will eat for a lifetime. The same applies with testing. PREPARATION: In a bowl, whisk almond flour, cake flour, baking powder, and salt. Separately beat eggs with sugar very well. Add butter, rum, and vanilla extract and continue mixing everything together, including the dry ingredients mixed before. Pour the mixture into a greased 9-inch springform. Bake it in a preheated 350 degrees oven for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar to decorate when the cake is cold. Have fun making it and enjoy.
