The Dolomites are a mountain group included in the Alps. They were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in August 2009

POSITION The Dolomites are a mountain group included in the mountain range of the Alps. They are situated in north-eastern Italy, more precisely between the territories of Belluno, Bolzano, Trento, Udine and Pordenone. In August 2009, they were declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Dolomites are divided into eastern Dolomites and Western Dolomites, separated by the river “Cordevole”


ORIGINS OF THE NAME The name “Dolomites” comes from the name of the famous French mineralogist Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu, who was the first to study the rock of these mountains, Dolomite, that is the main characteristic of them.

ACTIVITIES DURING THE YEAR The Gorges of Sottoguda

The gorges of Sottoguda are situated in the proximities of the district Rocca Pietore. It is a natural reserve of the Dolomites of about 2km in length at the foot of overhanging rocky walls of Marmolada. Tourists can admire chasmes and caves formed by Pettorina stream or the Franzei waterfalls. People can visit it during the entire year, in summer walking or by the little train whereas in winter using snow rackets.

Bike riding


Even the hardest mountain bike paths are now accessible to everyone thanks to the e-bikes, new green electrical bikes. They are available in the best bike rentals and bike hotels.

Natural park of d’Ampezzo Dolomites

The park was established in 1990 and its territory is 11200 hectares. it is situated on the borders between Veneto and South Tyrol, in the middle of the eastern Dolomites. Many animals (like marmots, deers and eagles) live here. There are many huts to go to, to try typical food. Baite Aperte ad Alleghe (open huts in Alleghe)

The open huts in Alleghe will take place on 22 March 2015. It will start at 10am in Piani di Pezzè and it'll consist in a tour through the huts with a final surprise activity.


Super8SkiTour

8 mountains (and as many huts) will form this new itinerary. Super8SkiTour will twist and turn through the slopes of Averau Troi and Armentarda. On the map these mountains form the drawing of a 8. "Ciaspe"

Among the paths perfect for the ciaspe (snow shoes) there are those that take from Sant'Umberto to Ra Stua hut, from Cian Zope to Scoiattoli hut and many others. in this area it is possible to spend time doing many activities like walking in the woods looking for animal traces, visiting the military hosts of the Big War and trying typical food.

MOUNTAIN HUTS AND TRANSPORTS HUTS on Sassolungo Sassopiatto HUT This hut is located at 2300 meters a.s.l. From this place you can start a very beautiful trekking or a via ferrata. You can stay there to eat traditional food but it is also possible to sleep thnaks to the comfortable bedrooms offered by the refuge. Thanks to the position

mountainous group of the Dolomites like Catinaccio and Marmolada. You can arrive at the hut by car or by skibus up to Sella Pass and then you have to walk 1 hour to arrive at the hut.

Toni Demetz Hut This hut is located at 2685 meters a.s.l. on Forcella of Sassolungo. You can arrive by car up to Sella Pass and then you have a trekking of 2 hours but it is also possible to take the funicolar railyway and arrive at the hut in 10 minutes. The place is wonderful because of the view of the nearby mountains. In addition to the trekkings and the via ferratas, near the refuge there are some climbing ways. During winter the hut is closed but in summer you can eat and sleep there.

FLORA AND FAUNA The fauna of the Dolomites includes many types of animals like squirrels, red foxes, deer (the king of the forest) and marmots. At higher altitude you can also see the exciting and fleeting chamois and ibex bu it is very difficult to see brown bears. The Dolomites are also home for weasels, hares, the sky is populated by partridges and golden eagles. Lower down, in the woods there are wood pecker s, owls and so on. The trout lives in whirilings streams, there are many anphibians and reptiles and recently the wolves and lices are back in the Dolomites.


The Dolomites have a flored world extremely rich: blubells, thistles and edelweiss, the most famous flower (below). The flora is obviously different from alt it ude to altitude: the lower woodlands consist mainly of deciduous while at higher atiltiude there are wo ods composed by conifers, red fils (left), larch and pine. At last, even higher you can find dwarf willows.

SIGHTSEEING Val Gardena Val Gardena is located in the Dolomites, in Alto Adige, in Italy and is crossed by Rio Gradena. The main three villages are German, Italian ad Ladin. It’s considered the most beautiful valley of Dolomites and it’s sourrounded by a mountain range, definited Gardenas Dolomites. The most important mountains of this mountain range are: Sassolungo, the Odle and the Sella massif. The valley is divided into three areas: Ortisei, St. Cristina Valgardena and Selva di Valgardena. Those villages are considered sweetly, especially for the hospitality, characteristic buildings and hotels and restaurants. Lakes are in thye valley mainly above 2000 m. Tourism here is really important during winter: it has 175 Km of slopes, 83 cablecars and 115 Km of cross-country skiing.

PERSONAL COMMENT We have chosen the Dolomites because it is a marvel of our territory. We can't say which the most beautiful place in the Dolomites is although we often visit these places. In fact every location has its features which make it unique without parallel.
