Top matric learner seeks help Lebo Mosolodi lebo.kathorus@tametimes.co.za Palesa Mothosele, a 17-year-old from Buhlebuzile Secondary School in Thokoza is concerned that she might be facing a bleak future even after outshining her peers, by obtaining five distinctions in the 2013 matric examination, due to financial constrain. Mothosele obtained distinctions in Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Science, Sesotho and English. “My marks are good enough to guarantee me a spot in most of the universities in the country. However, my poor financial background is the main stumbling block towards achieving my dream. My mother is unemployed and my father is the only breadwinner at home. My mother is studying nursing under a sponsorship. It would be an additional burden for my father if I expect him to pay for my tuition fee at the university,” explained Mothosela. According to Seipati Mothosele, her daughter was accepted in two institutions of higher learning in Gauteng. However, she was

disadvantaged because they wanted a parent to sign a surety form for a loan to be granted to her daughter to pursue the studies of her choice. She was unable to sign the surety form because she is unemployed. She is disappointed that her situation disadvantaged her daughter. Seipati promised willing sponsors or good Samaritans that they would not be disappointed if they should invest in her daughter studies. Palesa wants to pursue a career in Bio-Medicine or a Chemical Engineering Degree. People who want to help Palesa Mothosele can contact her at 078 340 6279. Buhlebuzile Secondary School obtained a 78.8% matric pass rate. According to the school Deputy Principal Mabatho Mbongo, there were 138 learners from their school who wrote the matric examination, 108 passed, 29 failed and for one learner the results are pending. The school matric pass rate target for 2014 is 80%.

Seipati Mothosele, educator Statu Nzimeni, Palesa Mothosele and Buhlebuzile Secondary School’s Deputy Principal Mabatho Mbongo celebrate Palesa’s achievement.
