Taxi violence claims lives in Vosloorus Charity Moyo charity@tametimes.co.za Vusi Buthelezi (35), a taxi owner and a member of Vosloorus Boksburg District Taxi Association (VBDTA), and his relative Philani Buthelezi were shot and killed next to MC Botha at Ebasuthwini Hostel in Vosloorus. Captain Mega Ndobe, communications officer of Katlehong police station said it is alleged that the incident is related to taxi violence. The two deceased were sitting inside a red Toyota Conquest, parked next to MC Botha drive at Basuthwini Hostel in Vosloorus. The car they were using belonged to late Vusi Buthelezi. A grey BMW stopped next to them. It is alleged that the occupants of the BMW started shooting at the Toyota. “The two brothers died on the scene and two people residing in the area, who were metres away from the incident, were also injured and taken to the hospital. We suspect that the incident is related to taxi violence. During the investigation police discovered that

several cartridges used are from a pistol and AK firearms. No arrests have been made. The suspects are still at large and police are continuing with the investigations,” said Ndobe. According to a source close to VBDTA, who wanted to remain anonymous, the association has a big conflict with another association that he did not want to disclose the name of. He suspects that the association might have led to the death of their member. Attempts to get a comment from the taxi association drew a blank, as they refused to comment when the paper was going for print. The distraught brother of the deceased, Mulamuli Buthelezi said, “It is a very terrible, painful incident and the family has lost brothers, fathers and siblings. We appeal to the law enforcement agencies to arrest the perpetrators of the incident.” Vusi Buthelezi leaves his wife and 11 children. He will be buried on 15 February at his rural home in KwaZulu-Natal. In another taxi violence incident, a 39-year-old member of Vosloorus Boksburg Danswart Taxi Association was

recently shot and killed next to Sebenza taxi rank in Vosloorus. It is alleged that he was driving a patrol car when a red Mazda 323 blocked his car and started firing. He died

alone on the scene. Twenty-five bullets were fired. The SAPS provincial taxi unit is investigating the incidents.
