Faculty Highlight
Jeff Sattler What did your undergraduate journey look like? I did my first year of college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. After my freshman year, I transferred to the University of Texas at Austin. To be honest, my main reason for transferring was because my girlfriend at the time was going to Trinity here in San Antonio, and I got tired of driving back and forth between San Antonio and Lubbock. Moving from Texas Tech, which at the time was still a relatively small university compared to UT Austin, was a major adjustment. UT was huge, and I really did feel like just a number as I took classes in auditoriums with hundreds of other students. To be honest, I would have been just fine finishing out my degree at Texas Tech. The upside is I convinced my girlfriend to marry me, and she transferred to UT the following year. That made things a little more bearable. I changed my major a couple of times, from journalism to history and finally to secondary education. I discovered I could take more English and history classes as a secondary education major than I could as a history or English major. I also figured out that with an education degree, I didn't have to take a foreign language, which I thought was real clever at the time. That turned out to be very unclever and something I came to regret. I wasn't a stellar student, but my grades were passable. I also did Army ROTC my last two years at UT, and my grades were good enough to get me an active duty assignment as a tank platoon leader in Germany for three years after I graduated.
What is your title and what courses are you teaching? I am an assistant clinical professor in the College of Business's Management & Marketing Department. This semester I'm teaching only business law classes, which I very much enjoy.
What do you like to do in your free time? I read a lot. I like to garden. All of our kids live in town, so we spend a lot of time doing family stuff, which is mainly eating food. We like to go on leisurely bike rides. I love music and still spend time listening to albums on my headphones. I'm involved in a lot of different activities at my church. I'm a certified professional guide with the Professional Tour Guide Association of San Antonio. I consider myself an expert on the Beatles.
Build a Community
Stephanie Gooding A tip from the lead mentor
When mentoring, it is really important to establish a rapport. The better the rapport, the better the communication. This means that you’re able to identify things that are going on with your Mentee and vice versa so that you can better help each other. Mentoring is not a one-way street. While you are helping another individual in need of guidance, you are still capable of learning from them as well. Maximize the benefit of a mentor position by learning from your Mentee as well as guiding them.
STUDENT What is your classification?
Senior
Where did you transfer from?
Palo Alto College
What is your major?
4th-8th year education with a John Castaneda minor in Biology What has been your favorite event on campus and why? My favorite event is National Transfer Week because it is a week full of different events that all transfer students get to be a part of and enjoy being appreciated as transfer students. One event, in particular, that is my favorite is Painting with a Transfer because it is a time to just be yourself and let your inner artist come out while being with your friends. MARCH 2022

Majoring in:
English W/ 7-12 teaching certification
Classification: Senior
Meet Viridiana Gomez, She is our Chapter Secretary and has been for four consecutive semesters now! 'Vi' does so much for our chapter on the back end, and although you may only notice the emails she sends, she is responsible for answering member questions, reserving spaces for our events and meetings, and putting in applications for us to be able to participate in big events like Festival de Cascarones! Vi does all this on top of being employed full time, completing her student teaching, and being involved in various on-campus organizations. She is also a mentor in the Silverliners mentorship program and a T.E.A.M mentor. She also participated in last semester's LeaderShape experience and came back highly recommending it! If you're interested in applying, you can click here to see if you're eligible to attend - if you are, you can even use Vi as a reference! We give Viridiana many thanks this month and every month for her dedication this chapter and to continually growing as a leader! APPLY HERE
