Project Description The design is an expression of artistic idea and conception that have emerged from an inimate feeling for nature. It is a constructed wetland that can adapt to environmental changes through the use of modular and parametric design. The modular function of this design can decrease the maintenance required for the site by prevent large spread of damage. In the morning, it is a great place for morning exercise, a scenic and pleasant route for wokring class, a shaded/sunny place for resting.

In the afternoon, it provides certain spa activities.

In the evening, the whole plaza becomes an event space with capacity of thousands of people and dozens of pop-up stalls, and some stages for performance.

This project started with physical prototyping with plaster and balloons. Casting results show a range of space with similarities and differences. Pink highlights those successful outcomes.

PINK BALLOONS

Queen Victoria Market, as the oldest market in Melbourne CBD and the former locale of Old Cemetery, was chosen to be our site. We looked for emerging programmes and how it start to construct its urban context. Our assigned site is a T-shaped area adjacent to two historial buildings, at the corner of Queen St and Franklin St.

Appreciation of Heritage

In order to preserve the valuable heritage building and landscape, the design retains a few most significant buildings and reuse it for contemporary needs. The streetscape and planting are designed according to the desired aesthetic value of historical landscape.

With the help of humans to fill up each frame with clay, the structure serves as a bee hotel where humans can also observe the life cycle of the bees

BEE PAVILION

Safe Nesting Space By providing a space for bees to safely reproduce, we aim to increase the population of this endangered species The bees would help the polination of certain flower plants such as tomatoes which then could be harvested by human.

Timber Framework 5mm thick plywood triangular frame as a mold for soft clay to be used by bees as a nesting space
