Caravan is a 4-mallet work for solo marimba, playable on a 4-octave instrument. It is designed as a companion to my piece Escape. Aimed at the intermediate level performer, it offers some challenges with independent strokes, but the repetition and relatively short length offset that area of difficulty. The opening ostinato is my attempt at recreating the stride of a camel, probably mostly influenced by cartoons.
