The Egg Den is an art & design enterprise made up of recent university graduates from a range of the artistic disciplines: architecture, illustration, and graphic design.

Preparation

We are organising an immersive and collaborative arts, comics, and poetry exhibition. We are applying as Galleries and Collectives, wishing to take on a larger space for the 11 days of the festival showcasing and selling work. This will be a curated space that demonstrates working processes and encourages visitors to take part in a creative way. The majority of works will be for sale.

We would be one of the first multi-disciplined, collaborative projects in the UK. We hope to be unique and attract more interest in the area. Somerset House Pick Me Up will attract attention from art & design enthusiast from all over the world. We will hopefully spread the word about poetry, comics, and collaborative arts.

So far we have contacted a number of young poets, Exhibitions: illustrators, poetry organisations, arts collectives, and even • Mounted art gallery musicians who would all be very interested in collaborating • 3D art on display on visual, poetry and performance art exhibitions. Live Performances: We’ve spoken to professional organisations and individuals • Young spoken-word slam poets who would be interested in collaborating with us too. We • Musicians (music inspired by mythology) are also currently in the process of applying for funding from Sky Academy Arts Scholarship and Arts Council. Themed Daily Workshops: • Teaching about poetry & comics We have been in discussion with The Saison Poetry Library • Learning art techniques at the Southbank Centre who have a strong interest in this field and have been collecting poetry comics for a number Collaborative Projects: of years. Ambitions

Our newest exhibition Words & Pictures: The Poetry of Dreams has a greater focus on poetry and how the expression of our greatest fantasies, hopes, and dreams can be expressed through literary and visual arts; exploring how they work together and traits they share.

Proposal

Our last exhibition aimed to explore and promote the idea that storytelling through literary narratives can be enhanced with imagery. The narratives exhibited vary from short stories, sequential illustrations and poetry.

We held our exhibition at the Bournemouth International Centre, exhibiting over 100 pieces of artwork over a week, from 30+ arts university students. Our exhibition was visually very diverse, featuring comic books, prints, Recent graduate of BA (Hons) Graphic Design at the Arts University installations and animations.

Our exhibition will consist of a gallery of curated artwork, a formatted Zine of digitally submitted artwork, 3D installations pieces, including an interactive 3D space where we can add work to accumulated during the exhibition, daily workshops on Poetry & Comics, live performance collaboration between musicians, spoken word poets, and visual artists. We will have a ‘tapestry/scroll’ which visitors will be encouraged to add to throughout the week(s). We’ve already spoken to a number of organisations and individuals who would be interested in collaborating with us too.

This will be our first big project together after graduating university. It will help to establish ourselves, boost our portfolios and give us invaluable experience. We will hopefully build up strong contacts and be able to further build our own enterprise. We want to do further collaborative projects at other venues, building up a reputation and attracting prospective employers and commissions.

The Egg Den went on to win the regional Young Enterprise competition, winning £250, and was one of the top 10 student businesses in the UK finals at the London Canary Wharf competition in early 2013.
