Greenwich Wharf

Marine aggregate sand & gravel Located in Charlton with excellent transport links across London and the South via the A2, M25, rail network and Thames barges.

About Greenwich Wharf Tarmac’s Greenwich wharf lies on the south bank of the River Thames just upstream of the Thames Barrier. It is the most central wharf for marine aggregates in London. Since 1987 the wharf has received and processed more marine sourced sand and gravel than any other in North West Europe, regularly handling around two million tonnes per year. Ideally located, its deep water jetty allows loading and unloading at most states of tide. Close to the heart of the capital and with dedicated rail links in and around the city, means that well over 1,000,000 tonnes of material is delivered annually by train into new and essential construction projects. The rail capability allows the equivalent of some 50,000 lorry movements to be removed from London’s roads. Destinations include concrete manufacturing plants at Kings Cross, Battersea and Acton. The plant is environmentally friendly processing reclaimed sand fines and using continually re-circulated river and borehole water to target more sustainable production. We pride ourselves on being an efficient team focussed on safe and collaborative working with our local authority, customers, hauliers and the wider supply chain.

We are proud that materials supplied from Greenwich have contributed to the building of the Millenium Dome, Olympic Village, Crossrail, the Jubilee Line extension and the Emirates and Tottenham Stadiums. We are also supplying material to Thames Tideway Tunnel which is an under-construction 25 km tunnel running under the River Thames, to provide capture, storage and conveyance of wastewater discharges that currently overflow into the river.
