Every year construction consumes around 400 million tonnes of raw materials. It also produces almost 100 million tonnes of construction, demolition and excavation (CD&E) waste resource.

Every time you think about and action the reuse of waste resources you will help to preserve valuable mineral resources, reduce waste sent to landfill and help to reduce the carbon footprint of construction. RE c

Part of our service is to identify the best recovery options for individual programmes. If you are looking for efficient and productive reuse/ disposal strategies for your schemes – talk to us. Working together - we can change the way we look at waste.

Our strategy is founded on the thinking that waste is a resource in the wrong place. This approach is a fundamental shift in perception and understanding the impact of waste recovery across daily life is critical if we are to set as default the necessity of REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.

A number of our former quarries are used to take the materials we can’t currently reprocess - these are restoration projects in progress. We utilise material from your project to restore our quarries and bring the land back into beneficial use. This allows us to create a whole new second life for the material we process. This allows us to create a whole new second life for the recovery we process.

Working with customers Recovery and landfill At Tarmac we use only the construction waste that can’t be recycled as restoration material to create new environments in old quarries.

Recycling Recovered materials are reprocessed to create a range of new recycled aggregates.

Operations Compliance with Environmental Permits and a range of legislation, regulatory guidance and industry codes of practice. Legislation - Environmental Protection Act - Waste Framework Directive - Landfill directive

Regulations - Environmental Permitting Regulations - Controlled Waste Regulations

Guidance and Codes of practice - Technical Guidance WM3 - Duty of Care Code of Practice Devolved regulations apply geographically

Re-imagining the landscapes of landfill

Certified recycled aggregates Across the UK we currently have over 800k tonnes capacity for recycling construction recovery. Applications are being processed to further increase this capacity. By carefully reprocessing clean inert construction wastes we can manufacture a range of certified materials to feed by into new construction programmes.

Re-inventing how we look at ‘waste’

Our recycling centres only accept clean inert construction and demolition wastes such as concrete (including re-enforced) bricks tiles and ceramics and road plannings. These are then treated and processed to create a quality recycled aggregate product. Our recovery and landfill sites accept inert, naturally occurring materials such as soils. Our sites are restored with these materials and completed restorations then revert to agricultural and natural environments or are developed for other uses.
