Teacher gets suspended! Organisers of the Heswall Primary School fair tried out a new fundraiser which involves selling strips of duct tape which were then used to stick one of the teachers to the wall. The scheme was so successful that they succeeded in suspending student teacher Mr Dutton using nothing else but tape!

Fresh start for Thornton Hough venue The venue formerly known as The Grange has reopened as The Red Fox. The grand building in Thornton Hough closed earlier this year but has been taken over by the Brunning and Price group who have a number of pubs and restaurants across the area. The new owners took over in August and have spent nearly four months doing up the building. According to the website: “The Grange has for many years had an eclectic mix of diverse businesses operating within its rather grand shell. Up until very recently it was probably best known as a place for functions at one end of the building, a meeting point for locals in the middle and down below many a Wirral couple will have met in the nightclub. Like all good things though, nothing lasts forever and while nothing was too desperate Clive, the owner, felt that he had had enough and decided he wanted to sell up. “Fortunately we got to hear of this through one of our wine suppliers and to cut a long story short, bearing in mind we’ve been looking for a good spot on the Wirral for years, we couldn’t resist making him an offer, and on the 10th of August became the proud owners of this lovely big lump of brick and sandstone. “As ever, our plans are simple; we just want to be a great pub restaurant. So for now we’ll be mothballing the function suite and converting the basement nightclub into substantial commercial kitchens and service areas, which should help us deliver fresh, unpretentious, high quality food to a cohesive pub restaurant.” The decision was made to rename the venue ‘partly in recognition of the blighters that hang out in the adjoining woods, partly to recognise our rural setting and partly to reflect the red/russet colour of the building’, says the company. Abseil challenge STAFF from the Santander branch on Telegraph Road took part in the Barnie Owl Challenge – a sponsored abseil to raise hundreds of pounds for Barnstondale children’s activity centre. The four staff members who took part were branch manager Sarah Drover, mortgage advisers John Coathup and Vinod Guinesse and cashier Clair Birtles. Dog fouling campaign A new dog fouling campaign has been launched in Wirral aimed at tackling pet owners who are less likely to clear up after their pets in the winter and under cover of darkness. A series of posters that glow in the dark have been designed and will be placed around the borough in problem areas. The signs will be posted in 120 hot spot areas in Wirral over a six month period.

Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile!
It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service Heswall & the surrounding area and
Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family
of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Legal Column with Jackie Campion, Principal Solicitor at Campion Solicitors
Have you registered your will yet?
Campion Solicitors has recently become a member of the Certainty national Registry of Wills.
What does the registry of Wills do?
You know today, but will they know tomorrow? In a recent survey, 67% of People did not know where to find their parents’ Wills. Tens of thousands of estates fall into intestacy each year, which can cause emotional and financial turmoil for loved ones. Changing circumstances, moving to another area or simply the passage of time can sometimes make it difficult for beneficiaries to locate a Will.
After a death, the registry gives us details about anyone who is looking for your Will.
We can offer registration of an existing Will or new Will We will keep your Will safe here, and the registry lets other solicitors in the UK know that your solicitor holds it. This means that when your Will is needed by your beneficiaries it is easily traceable and not overlooked.
It digitally records that we are holding your Will; no one there sees it, we keep it here.
We answer the query if it is legitimate, thus protecting both your privacy and your beneficiaries’ interests.
protect your family now, for the future... At Campion solicitors we will give you clear advice when making a Will and details of a fixed fee. All our initial interviews are free and without obligation to enable your to make a decision on how to proceed. Call Jackie Campion on 0151 342 9021 for a no obligation meeting.

The old gentleman is pictured from Gayton Lane with the toll bar behind him in Chester High Road. Gayton Toll Bar was a collection point for travellers on the Chester to Heswall road and beyond. The four bedroomed cottage was last occupied in 1965 and sold in 1979 for £15,000. All that now remains is a square sandstone windowless building.

The Geberit AquaClean range is comfortable and stylish too. And with a model to suit every style of home, it would make a perfect addition to your new spa-like bathroom. Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets? A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply. Q I’m really interested in buying a Geberit toilet with a spray function, but I have heard they’re very expensive. Are there any more affordable alternatives?
For more information To find out more information about the Geberit AquaClean range, call into Wirral Wetrooms in Irby Village and try it out for yourself! www.i-love-water.co.uk.

Dave commented “We recognised Irby as a great place to stay and grow in, we like the space we are in. We’ve taken on 2 apprentices and making this significant investment into the building can only improve it.” “Our new showroom will be completely unique for the Wirral, and will revolutionise the experience of buying a new bathroom for our customers. We want nothing more than people to come in and try them out for themselves, even down to taking your shoes off and feel the under floor heating, you can even take a shower if you are game, we don’t mind!”

We would all like more space in our homes and with houses in the UK getting smaller, space is at a premium. But what if there was an affordable way to create more space in our homes? A simple solution for all those people fed up of living among clutter and one that doesn’t require planning permission or any major structural building work. For most, the loft is a dark and dingy place visited seasonally; once to dig out the Christmas decorations and then again to bring down the holiday suitcases. A precarious scramble across dusty beams, torch in hand; grabbing what’s needed then clambering back past boxes filled with long-forgotten belongings. But that dark and dingy place is worth thousands. In fact, it takes up a third of
shouldn’t you be making the most of it? And that’s where More Than Loft Ladders (MTLL) comes in. Founded in Bolton over five years ago, MTLL specialises in generating space by making the loft easily accessible. And that’s all it does. It’s not a generic building company, and it’s not jack-of-all-trades. MTLL only installs loft hatches, ladders, boarding, lighting and insulation. It’s what the company does all day, every day, using qualified local installers who are reliable, tidy and efficient. The latest MTLL franchisee to open covers Crewe and Chester and is run by skilled tradesman, Adam Shepherd...“Our average job is about
complete,” says Adam. “And for that, customers get a modern two section aluminium ladder 50sq ft of boarding and a light to make the space safe and secure.” The price customers are quoted is the price they will pay, with no additional call out or credit card charges. “More Than Loft Ladders is already a trusted name in the north west with over 2,500 successful installations, and I really wanted to bring it here to Cheshire...It’s such a great and cost effective way for people to gain the extra space they need,” added Adam.
