Cloudy2Clear Windows โ Service With A Smile! Itโs been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes โ not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that itโs all about service. โOur product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But
itโs not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didnโt focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didnโt expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.โ Cloudy2Clear service the Hoole and Newton
areas & Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. โThe truth is that itโs not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends
and family of people Iโve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.โ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and heโll be happy to help!

The importance of After-Sales Service! Itโs a popular misconception that the estate agents job finishes when a sale has been agreed. At Somervilleโs Estate Agents we think that the after-sales service is just as important as the sales and marketing of your property and that is why we have a dedicated sales progression service to personally assist you through the conveyancing stages of your sale. Clare Hands, Sales Progression Manager, works closely with buyers, sellers, their solicitors and the rest of the chain throughout the sales process. Highly skilled, with a solution conscious attitude, she coordinates time scales and investigates hold ups so that your move is a smooth one. Annie Somerville, Director of Somervilleโs says: โClareโs role is a crucial one to ensure smooth transactions of property sales. With her detailed knowledge of the conveyancing process and survey problems she can assist when issues are raised and ultimately ensure that fewer sales fall through.โ Phil Riley of Upton says of Somervilleโs after-sales service: โOverall, you donโt sell houses, you manage solutions. You dealt with a highly complex situation in our chain, compounded with time pressures, and delivered. Had it not been for your proactive approach, this chain would have failed. You hit every issue head on and dealt with it, managing your communications to us, managing all our expectations and guiding us on what to do next. I would recommend to anybody who is looking to market a house to look no further, there simply is no point!โ

Bright ideas for life after retirement BRIGHTLIFE, the organisation set up to tackle loneliness amongst older people in Cheshire West and Chester, is launching a competition to make over ยฃ250,000 available to local people and community groups. The Bright Ideas Competition welcomes individuals and community organisations from across the region to pitch their ideas for projects and activities that could help to reduce the risk of social isolation in over-50s. Successful applicants will win a share of the ยฃ250,000 award money to turn their ideas into reality. โThe Bright Ideas competition is a great way of making funding accessible to community-minded people and smaller organisations that might not apply through traditional routes,โ says Commissioning Manager Adele Gatley, who is working in consultation with Brightlifeโs Older Peopleโs Alliance. โWe are encouraging applications from any source, regardless of size, and working closely with Chester Voluntary Action to provide tailored packages of business support to applicants, giving them the best possible chance of securing funding for their ideas.โ The Bright Ideas competition will be run over four rounds, with each round open for applications for nine weeks. Brightlife is holding a series of free information workshops for anyone interested in applying to the competition, held in various locations throughout Cheshire West and Chester during June and July. For more information about these workshops, call 01606 884444 or email commissioning@brightlifecheshire.org.uk.

HOOLE RANGERS FC
Rangers will carry on THE significant number of postponed games this season created a hectic end of season run-in for Hoole Rangers, which meant we needed to play Saturdays and sometimes twice during the week. This schedule was made no easier as seven of the eight games were against top 5 sides. The performance against the eventual league champions MBNA was excellent, with the sides separated by just one goal until the last minute when we conceded the second goal while pushing really hard for the deserved equaliser. A poor performance away to Samba followed, which we lost by 5-0. The two games against 2nd placed Woodchurch were difficult with several players missing and we lost both games 5-3 away, and 5-2 at home. Having lost an away game at Crossway by 3-1, we were unlucky not to get a win in the returning home fixture where we conceded an equaliser in the last minute following a very dubious penalty. An easy 4-1 win against Ellesmere Port III was one of the 2 wins in this period. The other win against 3rd placed Samba at home was one of the best performances of the season, where we showed exactly what a good side we can be, deservedly winning by 3-1. Following the great Samba performance on 14th May, we held our presentation evening at The New Scene centre. The award winners were, Ashley English who won both the Committees Player of the year and the Players Player of the year, and Mark Roberts, 1st team manager who won Clubman of the year.
l In what was the most challenging and disappointing start to the season, with us losing a significant number of players and having to withdraw a team from the CWFL Premier league it is amazing how things have improved. The hard work put in by manager Mark Roberts and assistant Craig Jones has created a squad that can compete with any teams in the division. The mood amongst the players is very upbeat, and everyone is looking forward to further rebuilding during the summer ready for a new challenge next season. We had agreed to make a decision at the end of this season on whether to continue, or fold the club and it is with great relief that we have decided to keep the club going, particularly as we are rapidly approaching our 25 year anniversary. Anyone interested in joining Hoole Rangers as a player, or on the committee can contact me on the phone number / email below

Hoole History Corner
Ralph Earlam, Chairman of Hoole History and Heritage Society, continues his explor THE last house on the south side of Charles Street was No.17; next door was the yard and storeroom for the off licence run for many years by Archibald Manley on the corner with Westminster Road which provided its entrance and address. Opposite No. 19 Charles Street (now a wine shop, formerly a cycle dealer) was the retirement home of Henry Richards the baker. Nos. 21 and 23 (now carpet and trophy shops) appear from 1891 as furniture shops run by Clarissa Goldstraw. In 1897 she became insolvent and clearly took the law into her own hands, being charged with โfeloniously stealingโ some furniture which she had sold on the easy payment system to a Mrs Saunders of Halkyn Road, turning up with a hand cart and two men claiming that the goods had not been paid for and taking them away. From 1933 J.M.Baldwin, son of the greengrocer at No. 8, ran a painting and decorating business at No. 21, before it became a Laundromat. No. 23 became a confectioners run by H.J. Brewster who was the contact for the Westminster Dance Band. In the 1940โs Charles Ives continued the confectionery business there and his daughter Wendy became Hooleโs Festival of Britain Queen in 1951. This was a national event but in the mid 20th century there was a Carnival every year on the Playing Field off Canadian Avenue, where marquees and flags were erected. There were dancing troupes, sporting events and attractions such as motorcycle races. The Carnival Queen and her retinue attended after processing through the District on floats. (The Society would be 22 Tel 01244 350398 www. Hoole History and Heritage Society always welcomes enquiries and information about our past.
CHARLES STREET II Beyond Westminster Road
ploration of Charles Street, from Westminster Road. pleased to know of any photographs or memorabilia that may exist from these Carnivals or any other event held on the Playing Field). On the other side of Charles Street, Robert Daniels was a newsagent on the corner at No. 26 succeeded by James Beck, tailors. That block was occupied for many years by Thomas Norbury, plumber, glazier and gas fitter; his workshop and store were in Westminster road next to the School and his family ran a restaurant in Chester which was alluded to in his advertisements. The row of 3 shops built in the garden of No. 29 Hamilton Street in the 1920โs was occupied by Charles Morris, grocers and greengrocers at Nos. 30 and 32; No. 34 has always seemed to be a sweetshop. In very recent memory it was an acupuncture parlour and now it sells a different kind of bytes! The need to protect consumersโ rights is not new. Even in the 19th Century shoppers were safeguarded. In 1869 William Jones of Charles Street was summoned, his scales being 4 drams against the purchaser, and he was ordered to pay costs of 4s 6d. Records show that in 1891 George Stalker was also summonsed for refusing to sell milk for the purposes of analysis by Mr. Watts, Inspector of Weights & Measures. The bench imposed a fine of forty shillings (over ยฃ120 in todayโs money!) and costs and ordered Stalker to pay the advocateโs fee. The local delivery of fresh produce was not confined to the bakery at No. 3; Thomas Baldwin delivered fruit & veg, George Stalker and Isaac Simpson brought fresh milk to the doorstep, ladled out from churns; their successor, Deva Dairies continued providing milk in bottles โ two choices,
pasteurised with a cardboard top or gold foil top (Jersey milk). The Co-op also had milk rounds (tokens needed, bought at the Walker Street shop). Other horse drawn deliveries were made by various coal-men, and Patsy Dobbins, rag and bone merchants from Canalside were Chesterโs Steptoe & Son. In Hooleโs leafy suburbs there was great rivalry to be the first with bucket and shovel to collect what the horses left behind to spread on prize roses or rhubarb!

THE HERO INSIDE BY THE REV ANDY GLOVER A FEW years ago the American Film Institute (AFI) revealed the top 50 heroes and top 50 villains of all time. Deeply principled and idealistic attorney Atticus Finch (portrayed by Gregory Peck, from to Kill a Mockingbird), was chosen as the greatest hero in 100 years of film history, while the greatest villain was revealed as the brilliant, cunning and psychotic Dr. Hannibal Lecter (portrayed by Anthony Hopkins, from The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal). Others in the top 10 heroes were Indiana Jones, James Bond, Rick Blaine, Will Kane, joining Hannibal in the top 10 villains were Norman Bates, Darth Vader, the Wicked Witch of the West.
Andy Glover has lived in Hoole with his wife Sue for 28 years. Andy began at Hoole Baptist Church, on Westminster Road, as Youth Pastor, before becoming the Pastor and now Team Leader.
One daydream that almost all of us have had is to be a hero. The heroes of our daydreams vary; often, as we grow, so do our ideas of heroes develop and become more sophisticated. Tellingly, early heroworship is often called โlooking up to someone,โ and, obviously, as children, we literally look up to those tall people, our parents, who are probably our first heroes. However, once we really begin to consider heroes, one particular difficulty seems to arise again and again. That problem is identifying a hero. So how do we determine who a hero is, or how someone comes to be a hero.
Some people say that heroes are born and not made, that heroism is a matter of fate, but if heroes are made, who - or what - โmakesโ them? Heroes in the movies can be called upon to illustrate both sides of this question. In one sense, heroes seemed to be determined, that is โmade,โ by a common understanding. Most people simply agreed that heroes were literally โextraordinary,โ and performed astonishing deeds, far beyond the capabilities of the average person. One quality that quickly arises in a discussion of heroes is courage. At the moment this is clearly highlighted in the campaign โHelp our Heroesโ As their website states; โItโs about the โblokesโ, our men and women of the Armed Forces. Itโs about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, itโs about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. Itโs about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. Itโs about Ben, itโs about Steven and Andy and Mark, itโs about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes.โ In the last 10/15 years we find a maker of heroes that ignores, engulf s or surpasses all previous creators of heroes. That influence is, simply, โthe media.โ It is true that without the media, which may discover and certainly announce people of valour and honour to us, we might never get to know of the heroes amongst us. More sinisterly though, the media can be superficial and capricious. The past itself changes under our eyes; people who are โnobodiesโ one moment are apparently โheroesโ the next and then these same people are gone again! Are the media identifying something else for us not the hero but the celebrity - someone who has attained the โfifteen minutes of fameโ that Andy Warhol claimed we were all due? If heroes are made and not born, who or what makes them? But if they are born and not made, how shall we know them? It was Heather Small who sang, โSearch for the Hero inside yourself, until you find the key to your lifeโ Is it possible to find that hero by just looking inside, I wonder if in fact if this is just a part of the truth, for me my hero is someone marked by sacrifice, he once said, โno greater love has this than a person lay down his life for his friend, and then this is what he didโ; This is person is Jesus! Although he a someone I look to imitate and follow, he is also someone who now lives in me and enables me to live a life that is marked with character, this I hope enables me to make the right choice, to do the right thing when I am called upon to do it at the right time, then maybe just maybe I can be hero to some else! www.hooleroundabout.com 24 a Tel 01244350398

Come on down to Hoole Allotmen Itโs stopped raining at last. There is some sunshine and the temperature is better. All the keen gardeners will be rushing out to tidy up and prepare for the barbeque season. So many jobs to do, where do you start?, writes David Moulton, from the Hoole Allotment and Garden Association (HAGA). Itโs exactly the same for us down on Hoole allotments. We need to catch up a bit to ensure our crops are ready. Plots turned over, potatoes in, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers transplanted. Itโs a busy time of the year! Did I hear you say you didnโt know there are allotments in Hoole? Well there are nearly 200 plots, just off Panton Road, behind the Alexandra playing fields. I know they are pretty well hidden.

The allotments have been there since the early 1900โs and it is a thriving community. Here is a fact for you. Before the allotments the land was used for the Royal Agricultural Show in 1893, and it was visited by Edward Prince of Wales on Tuesday 20th June. A very popular event at that time, so it is appropriately that the site is used as allotments today. Perhaps your gardening has filled you with a desire to do a little more horticultural activity, maybe you would like to have an allotment but are not quite sure yet. Perhaps a look around would help? Well you can come a look on our open day on 10th July between 9am to 3pm. Come and look, talk to plot holders, walk around and see what you could grow. It a combination of a bit of hard work, patience and enjoyment. You will see that we are actually a happy friendly bunch and would love to see you. You thought they were a

rather odd bunch, not at all, just passionate about what they do. OK, maybe there are a couple! During the day we will also be raising funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, so would welcome your support. Last year we raised รล1000 and would like to do even better this year. If you like gardening but think an allotment would be too much for you, then why not consider joining our association as a gardening member, you could then use our shop to get your gardening supplies at very competitive prices. Look forward to seeing you on Sunday 10th July

Hoole United Reformed Church Activities for July 2016
Completing the extensive community upgrade to Hoole United Reformed Church was the installation in the newly extended and refurbished kitchen of a hob and stand, kindly donated by the Chester Lions Club. This will be a much-used piece of equipment by groups using the premises, including a Luncheon Club for older people. Included in the refurbishment are new disabled toilets, a small tea bar and ramps outside ensuring easy access for the less mobile. Mr David Lewis, Church Treasurer, and Sandra Taylor, Catering Co-ordinator showed the President of the Chester Lions Club, Mr Brian Goodall, around the new facilities. l In June, Hoole URC celebrated the Queenโs 90th birthday, and also the churchโs 58th Birthday, with a slap up meal provided by the catering committee headed up by Sandra Taylor, with over 60 people attending.

Why put up with your window & door problems?.. โฆwhen we offer low cost window, door and conservatory repairs WindowGeeks is a local window & door repair expert. The company name says it all. But us 'Geeks' don't just fix windows, we are called out to mend problem front doors, patio doors and conservatories too. And with many homeowners battling with the extremes of good old british weather, we find our low-cost services are in high demand throughout the year. โReplacing misted-up or broken double glazed units and glass is only a small part of what we do,โ says Ian, who runs WindowGeeks in the Chester & Wirral area. โWe are often called out to fix a fair amount of draughty & leaking windows, helping our customers keep the warmth they're paying for inside. And, with the weather playing havoc with hardware, weโre kept busy fixing
lots of jammed or faulty window & door locks, hinges & handles tooโ โSo, donโt just accept from anyone else that you need a brand new entire door or windowโ Ian adds, โas we can probably repair your existing problem for far less. And, in the rare event that we canโt fix it for you, then we can also give you a competitive price on a top quality replacement, so remember to call us firstโ Saving money gets most people's attention; whether it's helping to reduce energy bills or providing a simple repair that saves thousands over new double gazing. โButโ, says Ian, โit's the company's reputation that makes us stand out, and itโs why most of our new customers are introduced to us through referralsโ.
โThis is my business, and it's one that's based on trust,โ he says. โWe will only charge you for what actually needs doing, and we always deliver on our promises. That's good old-fashioned customer service โ nothing more โ but it spreads fast through word-of-mouth.โ We donโt employ salesmen and we provide free quotations with: โข No call out charges, No minimum order values, No credit card charges โข No deposits, 10 year manafacturerโs guarantee on all Glazed products โข All quotes include VAT and Fitting, With NO HIDDEN EXTRAS
