Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service Neston, Parkgate, Little Neston, Burton and Ness
& Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family
of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

From diving to jiving at 40 year celebrations More than 80 past and present members with family and friends got together to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Wirral Sub-Aqua Club at Craxton Wood Hotel. The event brought together members spanning the entire 40 years, some having travelled from as far as London and Glasgow. A lavish dinner was followed by entertainment, dancing to live music and an archive photographic display. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as old friends caught up with each other’s news A raffle was held with prizes donated by ex-Chairman Mike Horgan, the Elsom family and the Craxton Wood Hotel management. It raised £380 which will be donated to the charity ‘Breathing Matters’ which carries out research into diseases of the lungs. Tony Elsom, the Club founder, died from a lung disorder within the last year. The Club still meets every week at Neston Recreation Centre to train new divers and plan their diving trips both in the UK and abroad. At present it has about 30 members ranging in age from teenager to over 70, and members and friends enjoy social activities as well as diving holidays. For more information about the Club, check out Wirral Sub-Aqua Club’s Facebook Page and web site. Pictured from top: Margy Grey and Kath Greenwood enjoy dancing to live music from Monty Duo. One of the biggest, if not the biggest cost involved in selling a house is the hefty fees charged by traditional bricks and mortar estate agents. While the average 1.8% charge might sound comfortingly small, multiply that figure by more than £100,000 and this can be quite a dent to finances. Average Estate Agent Fees are just over £3,000 on The Wirral If we look at the average sale price (according to rightmove) of a semidetached property on the Wirral which in 2015 was £168,850 - a 1.8% estate agent fee adds up to £3,039.30 (exclusive of VAT!). This will be deducted from any sale proceeds when you sell your house! If your house is more expensive – your fees would be even greater! WANT TO AVOID HUGE ESTATE AGENT FEES?
Like the best estate agents, they will guide you through the whole process - set up viewings, provide feedback, negotiate sales! They are even on hand to lead you through the sometimes complex conveyancing process. Commenting

“We are delighted to be a frontrunner in changing the face of estate agency. The world has changed and buyers are now used to looking for their next property online. Sadly estate agency has not kept pace with this change and haven’t altered their fee structure in generations! We see no reason for sellers to be penalised with unreasonably high charges when the internet does the majority of the work. Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets?
A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply.

Farmers, foodmakers and fairtrade
The Neston Fairtrade Town Steering Group provided Fairtrade refreshments at Neston Town Hall for the November Farmers and Foodmakers Market. Information displays highlighted the difference buy-ing Fairtrade makes to the lives of producers. Free Fairtrade samples were available to taste and there was a Meaningful Chocolate Company stall selling Fairtrade advent calendars and Christmas chocolates. Economic plan In last month’s magazine we featured a piece on the new economic plan for Neston, entitled ‘A bright vision for Neston’s future’. We wish to clarify that this is not the Neighbourhood Plan. The Economic Plan is not designed just to revitalise the town centre as such.
Many laps to Lapland! The Committee of Neston-based charity Northern Lights have challenged themselves to walk/run/ swim/cycle the distance to Lapland as many times as possible starting on 1st December 2016 and finishing on the 30th November 2017. It is 2235 miles from Neston to Lapland and they want to travel this distance while keeping fit as many times as they can. The aim is to also try and raise £2235 during the year via the online giving page. If you would like to join in, all you need to do is have a fitness bracelet, app on your phone or any other way of tracking your mileage and then report them to the charity once a month so they can track our progress. You can visit the Northern Lights website on www.northernlightscharity. org.uk for more info.

If the worst was to happen‌..
It is not pleasant to think about what would happen to our children if we were to die. For this reason many people may put of making a Will, because they don’t even want to consider the awful possibility. Leaving the decision to be made about your children by people you trust, who can take into account the circumstances at the time is reassuring and easy to set up. It is important if you are the parent of a child that you make a Will appointing guardians to act on your behalf. We recommend that you would discuss this with the proposed guardians. It is important to know while in general people choose family members it is not a requirement. The choice is a decision that you make and which of course can be changed at any stage as the circumstance of your children and the guardians change. This is done by making a new Will. If you do not appoint guardians under your Will, the court will appoint guardians on your behalf and the appointed guardian may not have been who you would have chosen. Death is difficult for people to deal with and by making a Will setting out clearly what you want makes matters much easier and clearer.

Council is on track for station facelift ANYBODY who uses Neston Station or its subway can’t fail to have noticed the general improvements to the station and the area surrounding it. Neston Town Council, the station adopters and Arriva Train Wales have combined with local people and schools to create a clean, tidy and attractive environment that includes new plants and tubs on the platform, repainting of station shelter and lamps and created the spectacular mural in the subway. The railway is increasingly recognised as a vital part of the local infrastructure that will support regeneration of our town - so this work underlines the growing im-portance of our public transport network. The process was taken a stage further recently with the completion of the improvements to the land at the entrance to the station off Raby Road. Station Nurseries were commissioned to undertake the work and quickly cleared the weeds, replanted the area and upgraded the footpath. Deputy Mayor Cllr Ceri Lloyd said: “The Town Council is in the process of making targeted im-provements to key pieces of land that affect the overall impression of the town centre. The area around the station is an important gateway to the town and it is important that it looks attractive. Local people and agencies have combined to make this part of the town centre something that we can be proud of. We want to keep it that way - so our next job is to work together to deliver CCTV to this part of Neston.” Neston Town Council Officers Claire Evans & Audrey Duncan, station adopter Phil Lloyd, Sion Jones of Station House Nurseries and Deputy Mayor Ceri Lloyd admire the improved path and replanting, mak-ing the approach to the railway station more attractive to visitors and residents. Left to Right – Station adopter Phil Lloyd, Claire Evans (Asset and Events Manager), Sion Jones (Station House Nurseries), Deputy Mayor Cllr Ceri Lloyd & Audrey Duncan (Governance & Operations Manager).

Parkgate pupils roped i An extra 20 parking spaces have been created at the old Station Road car park. The scheme has improved the landscape and developed a car park that is safe, easily accessible and close to all Parkgate has to offer. The car park was formally opened in late October by the Mayor of Neston, Cllr Mike Shipman, local Member Cllr Martin Barker and children from Parkgate Primary, and re-named Ropewalk car park. The re-naming was done following a competition run with children from the nearby Parkgate Primary School and was chosen because the panel felt Ropewalk linked to the area’s heritage. More than 4,000 bulbs have been planted around the car park by Parkgate Society and schoolchildren to give it colour throughout the seasons. Bulbs include daffodils, snow drops and blue bells. Cllr Louise Gittins said: “We have invested in Ropewalk car park to create additional parking spaces and make it more open and accessible to ensure people can park easily when they visit Parkgate village and waterfront or walk the beautiful Wirral Way. “This supports our ambitions to encourage more people to get out and about in their local area and enjoy the fantastic outdoor opportunities that are on our doorstep.”

in for car park revamp
More equipment at Parkgate play area
A popular play area in Parkgate now has three extra pieces of play equipment. The Ropework Play Area previously catered for younger primary school children but the addition of junior swings, a climbing frame and an all-inclusive roundabout, provides much needed facilities for the 7 to 11 years age group. The money also funded a new boundary fence for the neighbouring allotment, which increases site security and enhances the boundary with the play area. Cllr Louise Gittins said: “I’m delighted we worked closely with Neston Town Council to secure the fund-ing for this exciting new play equipment. Everyone involved has done a wonderful job. “Children from Parkgate Primary school have recently planted spring bulbs near the site and fruit trees will be planted on the land behind the play area in the coming weeks. So in the spring, it will look even better.” Deputy Mayor of Neston, Cllr Ceri Lloyd said: “The improved Ropewalk Play Area is the product of ex-cellent partnership working that has implemented some of the ideas put forward by the children of Parkgate Primary School.”

Rain fails to dampen histo The Victorian era returned to Willaston recently for the 150th anniversary of Hadlow Road Station. Many Friends of Hadlow Road Station and visitors to the station gathered on a wet 1st October 2016 to see a recreation of a scene from 1866 when the station was opened on the Hooton to Parkgate line. Actors raced through a cloud of steam to the sounds of steam trains busy at work along the line. One train sounded like it was leaving the platform and it seemed the actors from Neston High School had arrived too late; we all hoped they caught a later train! MP Justin Madders officially opened the afternoon’s commemorative celebrations. Following his speech and throughout the afternoon there were performances by the Chester City Brass Band, Had-low Green Singers, Mersey Morris Men, Duo of Harmonies and Simon le Barber. Inside the signal box a display of model trains was hosted by Merseyside Model Railway Society. Further along the platform away from the performers, a plaque to commemorate the 150th was un-veiled by Terry Robinson, the first resident of the Station Master’s House after the railway was dis-mantled and the Wirral Way opened. Inside the waiting room in the newly refurbished kitchen, volunteers worked tirelessly to supply an army of visitors and
performers with teas, cakes and other refreshments. Thankfully there were some gazebos to shelter under and many of the visitors were kept dry. Bunting was evident all around the station, along the platforms and in the waiting areas, it was a fan-tastic afternoon, despite the weather. The car park was converted and short excursions in a steam traction engine were provided for all those who could ride in the carriages. A coconut shy and a num-ber of other games were provided for visitors to enjoy and even though everyone got wet, a lot of fun was had by all. Since this event the Station Café has been inspected and given a food hygiene rating of 5 stars. In cel-ebration, brunches were served to passers-by on 30th October and the smell of coffee and bacon sandwiches from the kitchen and along the platform was wonderful. More kitchen opening dates are planned in the near future including; 29th January. Father Christmas is again able to make a drop-in visit to his Signal Box Grotto on 11th December start-ing from 1pm. The event runs from 1pm to 4pm, entry by prepurchased tickets including entertain-ment, refreshments including mince pies and mulled wine and lots to do for the children. Visit the sta-tion’s Facebook page or ring Chris on 0151 327 4511.

Extra patrols in response to youth problems TROUBLE in Stanney Fields Park has prompted the police and council to tackle young offenders. Cheshire West and Chester Council Youth Service has deployed two teams in Neston, on Monday and Friday evenings, to support and engage young people living in the community. The work is in response to recent serious, unrelated incidents in the local area and increased anti-social behaviour in the Stanney Fields park area. Cllr Nicole Meardon said: “I understand that these recent incidents may cause concern. I would like to reassure all residents that we are working hard to support young people to reduce any potential in-volvement in anti-social behaviour. “Our youth workers are actively working with people on the streets to motivate and encourage them to take part in local projects involving graffiti art and sports activities. They are also encouraging young people to join the Neston youth club held on a Wednesday evening. “Our youth engagement officer from the Anti-Social Behaviour Unit is also working with Neston High School to support the project.” Ian Stead, from Cheshire Constabulary, said: “We have increased the number of patrols in the area and are working closely with the Council and local partners to ensure quick action is taken to keep our communities safe.”
