APPOINTING AN EXECUTOR IN YOUR WILL When someone has made a Will and appointed executors in their Will, the executors will be responsible for carrying out the deceased’s wishes.

When someone is named the executor of a Will, they are being asked to take responsibility for administering the estate of the person who made the Will, called the testator, upon the testator’s death.The term ‘estate’ simply refers to all the property a person leaves behind.

Time and trouble When choosing an executor it is important to look at the practicalities of what you are trying to achieve under the Will. Honesty and conscientiousness are important, but if you are appointing more than one executor - and often that’s a good idea - they also need to be team players. They need to be able to be able to make decisions about financial and other matters, in the interest of the beneficiaries as a whole and not just themselves. They need to have the time and the inclination to deal with paperwork, the extent of which should not be underestimated. Most people think in terms of appointing their beneficiaries as executors - often their wife, husband, civil partner and children - and let them sort it out.

But what happens if they do not get on? You could ask a neutral member of the family, or a friend, to be an executor. But when the time comes, is it fair to ask someone who does not benefit under the Will, and cannot charge for their time, to deal with it?

An option worth exploring is to appoint professional executors. A careful choice of professional executors can save time, hassle and tax. There are different types of professional executors: solicitors, accountants, banks. Solicitors alone are governed by rules which limit their fees to what is fair and reasonable, and also have full professional indemnity insurance. Probably the main area where professional executors can help is in being detached, so that they can make decisions - sometimes difficult ones - in the interests of the beneficiaries, without having any vested interests themselves. Pupils celebrate with L Pupils at Neston Primary School celebrated the 200th anniversary of Neston Ladies’ Club Day, by putting on their party clothes for their own Ladies’ Day lunch. The school hall was decorated with bunting and flowers made by the children and the pupils enjoyed a buffet lunch and sang the Ladies’ day anthem. Parkgate pupils enjoy the great outdoors As part of their IPC topic ‘They See the World Like This’ the children from Parkgate Primary walked along the Wirral Way to Parks Field to collect sticks. They used clove hitches and square lashing to join the sticks into a picture frame. Using what the children found on the school field they designed an environmental picture to represent Parkgate. George is streets ahead In order to encourage more children to walk to school, Parkgate Primary School children recently took part in a national competition to design a badge for the charity ‘Living Streets’. George Culshaw from Year 4 won the regional entry out of nearly 1500 entries! He is pictured with the mascot, Strider, and he will now go on an all expenses paid trip to London for the final awards ceremony!

Stanney Fields spruced up for the summer A programme of improvements for Stanney Fields Park in Neston has been completed in time for summer. At a special event local councillors and partner organisations visited the park to see the completed works – which included the installation of three new ramps and a grind rail for the popular wheelspark which will provide additional challenge for its users. To complete the £80,000 project a graffiti street art project has been undertaken, involving local young people in creating a design for the new ramps,

led by a professional artist. The Dell area of the park, which has been underutilised in the past and was in need of improvement, has seen the tired old crazy-paving pathway replaced with a spray and chip croxten path and a small pedestrian bridge over a section of the brook. Other improvements include the installation of seating, bins, and soft landscaping works to visually improve the area to make it more appealing for park users. Cllr Andy Williams, said: “The council consulted with local

residents last year and the improvements we see now are a direct result of the community really getting involved in the development of this project. “The main improvements in the park can be seen in the Dell, a former Victorian bedding area which, in contrast to the rest of the park, had received little previous investment and was greatly underutilised by the park community. “Access within the Dell was poor and the new pathways looks great whilst the pedestrian bridge will help people over the small brook.”

Award-winning actor swaps stage for the keyboard Neston Players’ latest production witnessed the world premiere of the work of a local playwright who is more used to treading the boards than bashing away at a keyboard. Greg Jones, who was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the Players’ last production ‘Dinner’ at this years’ North West NODA Awards (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) is one of the authors who have collaborated to create ‘A Walk Through Time: 1814 – 2014’, which was be performed in Neston Civic Hall in June. Greg said: “To pick up the NODA award when you are competing against actors from across the entire North West was an incredible feeling, but the excitement building towards the opening night of this play tops even that. To collaborate with such a group of enthusiastic and talented writers and performers on creating a brand new work has been an amazing experience, one made extra special by the fact the subject matter is so closely linked to the unique story of the Neston Female Society, a story set against the backdrop of 200 hundred years of British history.” The play is set in modern day but delves back in time throughout covering Napoleonic times, the Boer war and the First and Second World Wars. Neston Riverside WI The group had an entertaining evening in May when Liz Marrs came to give a talk on “Animals I have Loved and Hated.” Liz used to work as a presenter at Chester Zoo where she would try and educate the human animal about other life forms. The talk was very amusing and informative. WI members had to copy flamingo movements before learning about synchronised egg laying. We took part in an identification quiz and learnt that meerkats tolerate planes flying overhead but hide from police helicopters; penguins are given golf balls to “hatch” to control their breeding and vigorously defend those golf balls; and the largest komodo dragon they’d recorded weighed 23st. We also learnt of the habits and misconceptions of some of the people who visited the zoo and the importance of educating them. The conclusion was that Liz loved all the animals, especially the bats, and hated none but that Humans could be very exasperating.

Tara’s fab salon is a fam Opening is a big hit - no matter what! There was a real Irish showbiz feel to the opening of the Tara Lynch hair and Beauty Salon in heswall. Tara’s brother Shane, from Boyzone, and Keavy, from B*Witched performed the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Brimstage Road salon. They were also joined by their sister Naomi who braved the bad weather on stilts! Tara is no stranger to the world of showbusiness either, having appeared in the Irish girl band Fab!, back in the 1990s. But she has swapped the microphone for the scissors and hair dryer to set up her own salon. The mum of two, who lives in Little Neston with husband Andy, trained as a hairdresser and beautician and worked mobile before embarking on the new venture. Tara met Andy when he was a tour manager with Fab. Tara finished with the band because she had a young son at the time

and it was tough being on the road. So the couple moved to Neston. Tara said: “My friend, Julie Ann, who lives in North Wales, is working with me at the salon too. We have worked in the last two previous salons together for the past nine years so it’s lovely to have us both working together. The salon has been open for just over a month and it has been really busy so far. Shane, famous for such hits as No Matter What and Picture of You, said: “Tara has done herself proud. She has worked hard to get where she is, and it’s my pleasure to have the honour of opening it for her.” Keavy, who has just finished a reunion tour with the band who enjoyed chart success with C’est La Vie, added: “I am so proud of my sister, Tara, she has done what she set out to do this year and has opened her own salon.”

Play area gets a welcome facelift Burton and Little Neston councillor Kay Loch, has helped spruce up Woodfall Lane play area, Neston, following a request from a local resident. Dissatisfied with the faded appearance of her local play area, resident Hayley Price approached Cllr Loch to ask if she could help to improve it. With a £980 contribution from Cllr Loch’s member budget grant and working with council parks staff, it was transformed by painting the equipment and repairing and installing a new fence. Cllr Loch said: “The play area is well used by all the local children and I agreed with Hayley that it was in need of an update, especially as the original colours on some of the play equipment had weathered away and the boundary fencing had also started to fall down which added to its tired appearance. “I was delighted to be able to use my budget to help improve the park for all of its users and I hope it can now continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.” Local resident Hayley Price, who often takes her two children to the park, said: “The park looks so much better and all the children love it. WHAT’S ON IN JULY Friday 4th July The Parkgate Proms, a theatrical concert evening at Neston Cricket Club, with opera, classical theatre, power ballads, pop and swing, from 7pm. Tickets from Brand, at the Cross, Neston, or by visiting www.parkgateproms. brownpapertickets.com Saturday 5th July Neston Village Fair, from 1pm, at Comrades Field at the back of the parish church. This year’s theme is TV characters, so expect lots of fun fancy dress costumes. All the money raised goes to local charities and good causes. Attractions include The Bell Tower Tours, Bungee run, assault course, gymnastic displays, classic cars, bouncy castle and lots of stalls.

This is a 5km run along the Bungee Run Wirral Way with funds going to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd. Saturday 12th July Picnic and Jazz, in Stanney Fields Park, 6-8.30pm. Admission is free but bring your own seating and picnics as you listen to the Peninsula Jazzmen.
