Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Handbridge, Curzon Park, Westminster Park &
Hough Green areas and Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends
and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

All action trip to Wales Queen’s Park High School’s Physical Education department were accompanied by 11 students to the Conway Centre, Anglesey. While there, they took on a series of extreme and challenging activities. Day one saw the staff and students take on the Anglesey coastline, as they traversed their way along a series of difficult rock climbs. One of the more challenging sections meant using tiny grapple holes as a means of maintaining our position on the cliff. This required substantial amount of upper body strength. Our positioning on the rock meant that we were suspended above an inevitable drop into the sea below. Before we knew it splashes were common sounds, as students appeared to be dropping off the rock face from all angles as they lost their grip and footing. At one point, a student was whisked away by a wave as he attempted to jump between rocks. The group had a sentimental moment as they ate lunch on the cliff top and reflected on what we had achieved. As night fell, the group settled in for a camp fire as they toasted their obligatory marshmallows. Paddle boarding was the order for the next day. Initially, the group attempted the paddle boarding with a ‘run before you can walk’ attitude. This resulted in yet more splashes as students hit the water repeatedly. With practice student began to gain their balance and water confidence. By the end of the session students were flying along the Menai Strait. Following the trip Mr Taylor said, “It was great fun for all and gave students an opportunity to experience challenges they wouldn’t normally face”.

CH4 HISTORY
A LEVELS
Star performers at Catholic High Top universities are filling up with students from The Catholic High School, Chester this summer as students receive their A level results. The highest achievers include twins Edwin and Martha Barnes. Edwin will take his two A* and one A grade with him to study Medicine at the University of Manchester, while sister Martha will read French with French Law at Birmingham University. The twins took their GCSEs at St Joseph’s, Wrexham before transferring to the Handbridge school for their A levels. Bristol University is a popular destination this year with Joe Beltrami (A*, A*, A), Georgia Erikson (A,A,A) and Joy Hunter (A*,A,A) taking Maths, Law with French and English respectively. Travelling north from Chester are Tom Spriggs (A*,A,A), studying Theoretical Physics at Durham and Hermione Burnett (A,A,A) reading History at York University. Two more students who transferred from St Joseph’s to study A levels are Emma Kupski (A*,A,A) who will train as a dentist in Cardiff and Kira Maw (A*,A*,B) who will read Psychology at Manchester Metropolitan University. Rhiannon Morgan also joined the school specifically for her A levels and will study Philosophy at MMU having achieved A,A,B grades. Results in subjects were very pleasing, with Mathematics, including Further Maths scoring the highest numbers of A* grades, and similarly strong performances

from French, History, Theology and the Sciences. Unusually six students completed their A level equivalent in Performing Arts a year early, with Aaron Bladen, Maisie McMahon, Tom Greaves and Georgia Woods securing starred Distinctions. Chairman of Governors Peter Devine said: “With three quarters of the grades falling between A* and C, we can be really confident that the school has excellent Sixth Form provision. I would like to congratulate each of the students, their parents and their teachers. Well done to them all.” Pictured are the twins Martha and Edwin Barnes (top) and Georgina Erikson

TheSCHOOL Diamond Jubilee QUEEN’S PARK HIGH
Delight for many students Sixth Form students at Queen’s Park High School have a lot to celebrate after gaining excellent results in their A-level exams. Its 2015 results show almost 40% of all grades were A*-B and 21% were A*-A. Headteacher Lyndsay Watterson said: “It is always a delight to see our students being rewarded for the hard work and determination that they have put in over the last two years and to be able to support them to achieve their future aspirations. We are thrilled that the vast majority of students have successfully gained a place at their first choice university.” Exceptional results were achieved in a number of subjects. One hundred percent pass rates were achieved almost across the board. On top of this, the percentages of students gaining A* to B grades were high in a wide range of subjects. Outstanding individual results were achieved by a number of students including Jordan Chellig who achieved A*s in Physics, Maths and Further Maths, securing him a place at Birmingham University to study Maths. George Clouting is going on to study Aerospace Engineering at Bristol University after attaining an A* in Maths and As in Further Maths and Physics. Daniel Wallace achieved an A* in Maths and As in Biology and Physics to gain a place at Durham University to undertake a degree in Finance. William Watson gained A*s in Maths, Further Maths and Physics, allowing him to gain a place to study Mechanical Engineering at Bristol University.

Before treatment
Thread veins are not broken capillaries, but are permanently dilated capillaries. Capillaries have very thin walls which are constantly dilating and contracting.
After three IPL treatments
20 To advertise call 350398
With age the elasticity in these thin walls is reduced and eventually lost and becomes permanently dilated so that we are left with the redness we associate with thread veins. Beside ageing thread veins can be caused by sun damage, working in hot steamy kitchens, skin products that are too harsh on the skin, such as skin cleansing wipes that contain alcohol or very astringent toners, smoking, pregnancy, menopause, medication and acne rosacea. a spider naevus is a central dilated blood vessel with smaller blood capillaries radiating from it like spider legs. These are commonly found on the face and chest. at hough Green Clinic we treat spider naevus with electrolysis diathermy. A fine needle is inserted into the naevus and a low electrical current is applied into the naevus which in turn cauterizes and dries up the blood vessel. Thread veins can also be treated by the same above method. however, if the thread veins cover a large area of the skin, say the cheeks, nose or the chin, Laser or Intense Pulsed Light treatment is very effective. The light emitted from the Intense Pulsed Light is attracted to the haemoglobin in the blood vessel. The light www.overleighroundabout.co.uk
Skincare advice with Jane Bryant, from the Hough Green Clinic is converted to heat which destroys the protein in the wall of the thread vein causing the veins to gradually disappear after treatment. at hough Green Clinic we have successfully been treating our clients’ thread veins for 10 years with our ellipse Intense Pulsed Light machine. The number of treatments depends on the location and number of your thread veins. Normally 3 treatments is an average and the treatments are timed one month apart.
It is important to avoid sun tanning during the treatment period. after treatment you should avoid sun exposure for 30 days and a high SPF30 should be worn if sun exposure cannot be avoided.

Gardening by Janet Heath
Glorious autumn I love early autumn when a new range of plants spring into colour. It take some planning to have a border looking good at this time especially as we have had a dry summer so many plants are dry and tired. If you are looking for plants that will come up every year and give you a display of colour at this time of year consider perennials such as Knipofia or Red Hot Pokers although some are not red. Varieties such as Sunningdale Yellow and Strawberries and Cream, flower later in the season. They look good with perennial geraniums around their feet. Another of my favourite plants are Penstemons. These have bell shaped flowers in white, reds, pinks and blues. Easy to grow in sunny positions and last well into autumn if you cut off the dead flower heads. For damper soil, and if you want a tall perennial, go for Helianthus Lemon Queen.

In good heavy soil that does not dry out it will reach 2m or more and will delight you with heads of pale yellow small sunflowers for weeks. They look great with red and orange Heleniums. A few shrubs flower later in the season and one I would recommend is Abelia grandiflora or Abelia Frances Mason with variegated foliage. Their appeal is that they have scented white flowers over a long season in late summer and early autumn. Plant in any type of soil in a sheltered position and prune in early spring. Prune rambler and climbing roses in autumn by cutting out old shoots and tying in new robust stems. If you tie the stems horizontally you will get many shoots growing up carrying flowers next year. Let them grow upwards and all you will get is flowers above your head out of sight.

Civil war battle re-enacted Chester is preparing for the arrival of thousands of 17th Century soldiers for the UK’s biggest battle re-enactment of the year during a free, three day event from 29th to 31st August. On August Bank Holiday weekend, 2,000 Royalist and Parliamentary troops will reenact the historic battle of Rowton Moor, which saw Charles l fail in his attempt to lift the siege of Chester. The Lord Mayor, Councillor Hugo Deynem, will unveil a plaque in the Roman Gardens in honour of victims of the Great Siege of 1645-6. Then on Sunday and Monday afternoons at Chester Racecourse, the Sealed Knot Society will re-enact Rowton Moor, next to a large historical encampment. Fought on 24th September 1645, the battle was intended to relieve the siege of Chester, the last port under Royalist control but Charles - watching from the Phoenix Tower, on the City Walls - saw his Cavaliers soundly beaten.

You Said – Residents and Community Groups have asked that there is a regular visible patrol around the green space areas in Overleigh, such as the Meadows and Westminster Park as ASB can increase in these areas during the summer holidays.. We did – During July PCSO Fox and other Overleigh patrols have checked the Meadows and Westminster Park on a regular basis. During this period there have not been any reports of anti social behaviour in the above areas. We will continue to regularly patrol the areas in the summer holidays.

Selling in the autumn months Many house hunters active at this time of year are hoping to be in their new home by Christmas so it’s important to get your sale or purchase agreed by mid-October if this is to be achieved. For anyone wanting to move house over the next few months here are a few simple tips which can help you get going!
Selling TipS: As the weather starts to change, gardens will begin to fade from their summer glory and you will need to cutback the hedging, dead-head flowers and sweep up leaves. The weather can be unpredictable so make sure you have a foot-mat for people to wipe their feet on if it’s raining or over-shoes to wear on light coloured carpets. An umbrella is always handy for showing the garden when it’s wet. If it’s a little chilly, get some background heating on or light a small fire. Warm and cosy rooms are very welcoming when it’s blustery outside. Use lamps on darker days to brighten up a room and even have some chilled background music to create the right feel.
Buying TipS: If you want to agree a purchase at this time of year and move in by Christmas it’s important to have all your financial arrangements in place and to instruct a solicitor who will work quickly and efficiently. Be sure to check with the seller or agent about the home owner’s onward plans. If you get embroiled in a long chain there can often be delays which are out of your control. Book removal companies early. November and December are a busy time of year and many firms get booked up quickly.
If you are thinking of buying or selling over the next couple of months please feel free to contact Somerville’s Estate Agents with anyOverleigh questions or to request a valuation. Roundabout September 2015

QUEEN’S PARK HIG And the prize goes to..... The annual celebration evening was held at Queen’s Park High School shortly before the end of term. The evening is an opportunity to celebrate the success of students across all subjects and to recognise the commitment of students achieving 100% attendance and punctuality. Over 100 students were invited to attend with their parents; so with a packed hall and a camera at the ready, the Headteacher, Lyndsey Watterson opened with evening with a keynote speech. Students received framed certificates for achievement in subject areas. There were three Key Stage awards available for outstanding learners in each faculty. The evening culminated in the presentation of five headteacher’s awards, one for each year group. This trophy was presented to the student who had received a number of nominations from all different subjects and who was clearly making a very positive contribution across the school. A BUTCHER’S BLOG with Bruce Edge, from Ernest W.Edge & Son Butchers, Handbridge
Fillet Steak What is all the fuss about?
Which part of the animal does it come from? Why is it so expensive, and is it as good as everyone makes out? For me personally, I would prefer a succulent and juicy rib-eye steak every time but fillet steak definitely does have its place. In its favour it is very tender and very lean. These are two big positives for many people and to be fair you can prepare some amazing recipes with fillet steak as your main ingredient: Steak Diane, Steak Tartare, Beef Stroganoff and Beef Wellington for a start. The more tender the cut of meat you buy, the more options you have in cooking it and fillet allows you to fry, poach, roast, grill, bake or even eat raw. Why you may ask? This muscle is so tender because it is a non load supporting muscle on the inside of the animal. Unlike for example, the shin which as a muscle does a lot of work and consequently requires long slow cooking to make it tender. Doing a lot of work as a muscle also gives it lots of flavour. The fillet sadly does not have the flavour of rump, rib-
eye or sirloin steak, which is why in a restaurant it is so often offered with a sauce. Fillet steak is a muscle which lies tight into the spine running along the inside of the sirloin bone from roughly a third of the way down the sirloin all the way through the underside of the hip bone (above which rump steak is found). The shape of a full fillet of beef starts as a very thin tail in the mid sirloin section. This is too thin in width to cut as a steak but as it is as tender as the thicker end further down the sirloin it lends itself perfectly for stir frying in thin strips. Steak Diane or beef Stroganoff are perfect as you only have to show the steak to the pan and it is cooked. In a beef carcass weighing 720Ib/326kg there will only be approximately 8Ib/3.6kg of fillet. This rarity gives it financial value as there is not enough to go round and equally it is highly desired due to its tenderness and leanness. This month’s recipe is a very easy one suitable either as a starter or can be scaled up for a main course.
Classic Beef Carpaccio
Method:
Ingredients:
All the recipes on the internet seem to be geared up for supermarket customers, telling them to wrap their fillet steak in cling film, put it in the freezer, cut it and flatten it ready for use. Better still, go to your local butcher and ask them to slice it very thin on the bacon slicer!
250grams of best quality 28 day aged beef fillet trimmed. 2 tbsp truffle oil or extra virgin olive oil 2 tbsp toasted pine nuts 2 tbsp finely chopped chives Half cup/40 grams of shaved parmesan Wild rocket leaves and lemon wedges to serve
Arrange 4 or 5 slices of beef on each serving plate and drizzle with oil. Season well with sea-salt and freshly ground black pepper, then scatter with pine nuts, chives and shaved parmesan. Serve with rocket leaves and lemon wedges.
