Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving

people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Great Sutton and Little Sutton areas &

Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends

and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Restoring pond to its former glory WHITBY Park pond has been given a new lease of life. The council has moved debris and weed from the pond to restore it back to its former glory. Specialist machinery was brought in to clear the bottom of the pond, which had become shallower due to a natural build-up of leaf litter and sediment. The pond is home to Crucian Carp, Sticklebacks, aquatic insects, moorhens and a heron. Cllr Mark Henesy said: “The pond currently has limited diversity and I’m delighted that this work will enhance the habitat for other wildlife in the future.” Local residents are once again able to fish from the pond, provided they have the correct licence and leave the pond in a tidy condition. There is a specific wildlife area to the rear of the Bowling Greens, including a small ‘natural pond’ which remains undisturbed. Steve Davies, Tony Marley, Andy James, Graham Jones, Ed Glenn, Rob Taylor, Helen Lacy, Tom Kelly, Cheshire West and Chester Council staff from the Grounds Maintenance, Greenspaces, Localities and Total Environment Teams at the new look Whitby Park Pond.

Lessons were very different with lots of different characters from books sat at the tables ready to be taught by Greek gods, crayons, aliens and a highwayman! The children and staff dressed up as their favourite characters for World Book Day. All pupils took part in a parade to show their costume and talk about their character. Mother, Baby and Bowen Therapy During pregnancy Bowen Therapy has a very important role to play in the health care of women both during and after pregnancy. The Bowen Technique is integral for Mothers-To-Be as it is one of the only therapies that can be performed in its entirety, being very gentle, with the patient sitting down or lying on their side, whilst remaining clothed. Bowen Therapy can treat all common pregnancy pains from morning sickness and tiredness to physical pain such as back ache and sciatica and assist with digestive problems as well as psychological and emotional well-being. For new mothers Bowen is helpful in speeding recovery after birth. Treatment focuses on encouraging the uterus to contract and helping the pelvis to realign. The sooner after labour the mother comes for treatment, the more effective Bowen therapy will be. For babies Birth is one of the most traumatic processes a child will go through and Bowen Therapy can be given within days of birth. Bowen can be extremely effective in treating colic, digestive problems, chest infections and restlessness as it is gentle enough to be used on the most delicate of babies. As babies change so fast often the results can be seen during the course of the session. Bowen is generally pleasant to receive each session lasting 30 to 60 minutes. Many clients become so relaxed they fall asleep during treatment. For more information on Bowen Therapy refer to Wirral Bowen Therapy above and for other Bowen Therapy Professional Association members in your area visit www.bowen-therapy.co.uk 160844 Tel 01244 or call 561 7173 350398 www.southwirral.com

Pupils from Parklands Community Primary School with head teacher Ros Flanders, Robbie Glorman – Streetscene; John Hickey, Kevin Griffiths, Ian Sullivan, Paul Blackburn, from the council, and Heather Gilfoyle, from Parklands School.

Parklands primary pupils tackle pooch poo problem! PUPILS and staff at Parklands Community Primary School, in Little Sutton, have helped Cheshire West and Chester Council tackle thoughtless dog owners by organising a ‘Pink Poo’ initiative around their school. Pupils and staff who travel via the school’s walking bus have worked with the council’s locality officers to highlight the problem of dog fouling. On the route officers used chalk-based pink spray paint to highlight the problem to let offenders know that someone is watching. The Council’s Streetscene Team then moved in quickly to clean up the mess. This initiative had the added benefit of clearly pinpointing the unwanted deposits to passers-by. Research by Keep Britain Tidy has shown that dog walkers are more responsible and pick up after their dogs, when they think that they are being watched. Ros Flanders, Headteacher at Parklands, said: “The school’s walking bus collects between 40 and 50 children from the local area to walk to school every morning. Aside from being most unpleasant, dog fouling raises health and safety issues for children using this facility. “In the past, staff regularly needed to navigate children around dog faeces to ensure that children arrive at school safely. I am pleased that action is being taken to address this issue to ensure that children can enjoy and play in their local area without facing additional risks and hazards.” 18 Tel 01244 350398 www.southwirral.com

It makes sense for pupils to get gardening! A NEW sensory garden has been created at Hinderton Special School to enable pupils to learn about nature in a safe and controlled environment. Parents of pupils at the school in Capenhurst Lane, who meet regularly as part of a carers’ group, contacted the local council which removed shrubs, laid a new path and replaced a wooden fence. School business manager Liz Clutton said: “The new sensory garden has created a fantastic opportunity for the children to get hands on in the great outdoors. The children and teachers can’t wait to get started adding plants to the raised beds. “We’re going to include plants that the children can touch, smell and explore to learn more about nature. We’re extremely grateful for all the work the Council’s High Impact Team has done for us and have really enjoyed seeing the garden come to life.” Staff from the council’s high impact team with school business manager, Liz Clutton, and pupils from Hinderton School.

Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets? A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. GARDENING BY JANET HEATH

COLOURFUL SPRING

APRIL is the month when plants really get going and I would like to start by looking at climbers, in particular Clematis. Spring gives a number of varieties to consider. Clematis armandii with larger, white slightly scented flowers is an evergreen climber which will flower even in darker corners of the garden. It needs a sheltered spot with moist well drained soil to do best and bear in mind it will cover a large area. I love Clematis alpina with small hanging bells of flowers in blue, white and pink. Clematis macropetala is particularly beautiful with delicate double flowers and does not get as woody as the alpina varieties. Prune just after flowering by cutting back a little if they get too large. Small perennials such as Allysum and Aubretia provide early season colour and another attractive alpine flower are Auriculas. Similar in size to Primroses they have velvety flowers in a wide range of colours. Very good for moist well drained soil in sun and dislike wet soil. If you have a woodland edge site with moist well drained soil try the stunning Dicentra spectabilis. It has arching stems with white or pink and white hanging flowers. It does die down later in the season but is lovely for a woodland garden. Plant alongside Epimedium a low growing perennial with glossy heart shaped leaves. In early spring they have new bronzy leaves and pale yellow or pink flowers depending on variety. Plant hardy annuals such as sunflowers, nasturtiums and marigolds out in the garden, where they are to flower. If the weather is mild later in April, sow seeds of lettuce, carrots and radishes outside. Make sure roses are fed and look out for aphids on new growth. Spray with a solution of washing up liquid to keep them at bay. If you would like to visit gardens for ideas, I suggest you look out for gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme where all proceeds go to charities including Marie Cure Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support. Briarfield near Burton on the Wirral is open on 24th April and has a couple of acres of gardens with alpines, bulbs and herbaceous borders with plants for sale. Janet Heath Garden Mentor
