Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile!
It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Great Sutton and Little Sutton areas &
Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends
and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Tackling congestion outside school Council officers and primary schools are joining together to tackle parking problems outside schools at peak times of the day. A road safety assembly titled DIPZY, an acronym standing for Double Yellow Lines, Ins & Outs, Pavements, Zebras, Yellow Zig-Zag lines has been delivered at a number of primary schools to highlight the dangers that many children face, because of the inappropriate behaviour of a minority of drivers on the school run each day. Locally, this has been carried out at Our Lady’s RC Primary, in Little Sutton.

The Bowen Technique
18 Tel 01244 350398 www.southwirral.com
What is it? The Bowen Technique is a remedial, hands-on therapy that is applied using very gentle pressure. The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to perform Bowen’s unique sets of rolling-type moves which stimulate the muscles and soft tissue of the body. There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue and no force is used. The experience of a treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing. It is believed that the Bowen Technique prompts the body to reset, repair and balance itself and clients report the experience of pain relief, improvement of function and recovery of energy.
hoW Does it Work? One of the least understood areas of the body is the brain. There are something like 600,000 signals that travel from the brain into the body every second and these in turn come back to the brain with information which is then interpreted and sent back out. In the case of the Bowen move, the brain is unable to do this instantly and needs more information to form a response. As it is, just when the brain is asking for more info, the therapist has left the room, and therefore the brain has to send specific signals to the area in order to gauge a response. If the client is lying down, the immediate response is nearly always
it is not uncommon for even longstanding pain to be reduced or resolved in two or three treatments.
rapid and deep relaxation. The client will also often report that they feel a tingling sensation or warmth in the area just worked. “It felt like your hands were still on me,” is a common comment. We believe this demonstrates that because the move is out of the ordinary, the brain is looking for information about what happened. hoW LittLe is DoNe! One of the more difficult elements to come to terms with is how little is done during a session. In addition, the client may well walk out of the treatment room having felt little or no improvement over and above a sense of relaxation. However, the reactions to Bowen in the days following a treatment can often belie its soft and gentle approach. Stiffness, soreness, headache and feeling like “I’ve been run over by a bus!” are common. All excellent signs, they demonstrate that the brain and body have started the process of repair. This process, when started, is generally rapid and it is not uncommon for even longstanding pain to be reduced or resolved in two or three treatments. Most sports or work-related problems can often be dealt with within the two or three treatments, making Bowen not only good remedial treatment, but cost effective for the client as well.
MiGraiNes Although musculoskeletal problems such as frozen shoulder, back and neck pain account for the majority of conditions brought for Bowen treatment, it can also be helpful with more organic problems. Clients have reported significant improvements with asthma, migraines, irritable bowel, infertility and other reproductive problems. Even hayfever has been brought to Bowen. There are no such things in this life as guarantees and this can be said of Bowen as well. If the body responds to the treatment, then it can and will start the process of repair. If it doesn’t respond, then no harm is done. PLEASE NOTE: The Bowen Technique is not a substitute for medical treatment. This information is not intended to replace guidance from your doctor or other suitably qualified medical professional who should be contacted for advice if you have any health concerns. l Editorial courtesy of ECBS (European College of Bowen Studies)

Gardening by Janet Heath
High Summer Borders August can be a difficult month for flowers as we tend to buy plants in spring when mainly spring and early summer plants are on sale and find we have little to give colour in late summer. So go out and see what is available now by visiting nurseries and gardens. If you require height in your summer borders and have an open sunny site I would recommend Veronicastrum virginicum Fascination. A very tall plant up to 1.2m in height with spires of pinkish flowers for a few weeks. They need some staking and moisture retentive soil. Another unusual perennial plant is Chelone obliqua which will do well in sun or light shade in heavier soil that retains moisture. It will grow to 75cm tall and has heads of shell like pink flowers in summer and early autumn. For those with wet boggy soil and space why not try Eupatorium which will grow to 1.5m and spreads into large clumps. The Geraniums Rozanne or Buxtons Blue both flower for a long period and give a carpet of blue flowers under or around taller plants like the Eupatorium.
On the vegetable patch you should now be pinching out the tops of runner beans to encourage flowering and the production of beans. Cover cabbages and other brassicas with netting to prevent Cabbage White butterflies laying eggs with the caterpillars hatching and consuming your plants. Broccoli will need staking for winter. Pinch out the side shoots on tomatoes and give them a feed to encourage more fruit to form. If you would like to visit gardens for planting ideas and a lovely afternoon tea, I suggest you look out for gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme where all proceeds go to charities including Marie Cure Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support. Hannetts Cottage at Kidnal near Malpas is open on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August is a lovely cottage garden with different areas for sun and shade loving plants, water features and seating tucked away is corners. Laskey Farm at Thelwall, near Warrington/Lymm is open on Sunday 16th August. Late summer colour from herbaceous borders and also has a few pools and a maze planted in prairie style plants.

Warning to teenagers over legal high dangers POLICE are warning about the dangers of ‘legal high’ substances after a boy was found unconscious in Whitby Park. Emergency services were called out to the incident last month and the 15-year-old was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital for treatment. Following initial police enquiries it is believed that the boy had taken a ‘legal
high’ called Black Mamba. Detective Inspector Simon Newell said “I am urging people to not take any so-called ‘legal highs’ and consider the risk. Although the drugs are given the name ‘legal’ high it doesn’t necessarily mean they are safe to take. “I would also encourage parents to have a conversation with their children and warn them of the dangers posed by taking these drugs.”
Reports also suggest that others within the group may have been suffering from adverse effects of taking the drug and may have become unwell around the same time, although not to the same extent. DI Newell added, “If people have taken this or any other substances and have concerns about their health they should call 999 and seek immediate medical assistance.”

A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply. Q I’m really interested in buying a Geberit toilet with a spray function, but I have heard they’re very expensive. Are there any more affordable alternatives?

Hayley’s health and fitness
Health and Fitness blog
What’s your exercise excuse? As a personal trainer and gym instructor I hear daily of various reasons and excuses why people can’t or don’t want to exercise. The top five being... 1.I don’t have time 2.I’m too old 3.I have a bad back 4.I’m too tired 5.I’m too self conscious/ exercise isn’t for me!
Let’s just look at these in detail and really see if these are a real reason for not getting fit. 1: ‘I don’t have time’
Recent research suggests that you don’t need to stay in a gym for hours at a time to burn off a couple of hundred calories.
The idea now is get it done and get home. Many classes are now only 30 mins, the intensity is high but it means with HIIT (High intensity interval training) your blasting off more calories in a shorter time, so you can nip in on a class on your way then you’re still in time to make tea and settle down for the night. There are 168 hours in a week, with the recommended activity levels based on 30 mins x 5 per week that’s only 2.5 hours out the week to fit this in! Get up earlier, use it as your family time, take the children with you or organise your time better to fit this in!
2: ‘I’m too old’ Use it or lose! Not keeping active? Then say goodbye to your muscles. Many of us fear getting old but if you want to stay independent and fully mobile keeping active and using a mix of cardio and weights is the only way to maintain your posture, muscle tone and keep yourself mobile. It’s never too late to start something! 3: ‘I have a bad back’
If the doctor has told you NOT to exercise then obviously you must take this advice. If the doctor has said do what you can, then this is NOT reason to use your bad back as an excuse. Many people come to me complaining of a bad back, but having seen the results from a tailored, safe workout the positive results speak for themselves.
Having a strong core means you take the pressure off your back as all the others muscles responsible for maintaining a good posture work hand in hand to keep you in the correct alignment. Not strengthening the whole core means the surrounding muscles over compensate to help the weaker muscles which in turn can lead to a whole host of other problems.
4: ‘I’m too tired’ Everyone has days when they have more energy than others this is a fact, lack of sleep, or a poor sleep or a heavy weekend can leave people feeling fatigued. However there are three things that will help to keep you fuelled and ready for the day, one being a good diet, plenty of water, high fibre foods and complex carbs. The second being a good night’s sleep, aiming for 7/8 hours a night and the third being an active lifestyle. People think by doing exercise it will make you more tired, this couldn’t be any further from the truth, exercise can help to give you energy. 5: ‘I feel self conscious/ don’t have the confidence’
Granted, a group of 40 women can be intimidating, you are worried you’ll go the wrong way, bang into someone or you simply can’t coordinate. Ask yourself this, does it matter? Is anyone remotely interested if you go wrong? The answer is NO! People come to fitness to get fit not to look at what other people can do. Grab a friend to your first class or speak to me for one to one training. Don’t let this be your exercise excuse.
