CH66 crimefile Recent crimes reported to Ellesmere Port police include the following: Whitby Road – Two female offenders punctured the front tyre and scratched the bonnet of a Ford Fiesta, parked in the alley way to the rear of food outlet. Ross Road – CCTV showed three young male offenders knocking the wing mirrors of a Renault Modus and Peugeot 307, parked within grounds of repair garage. Bebington Road – Paint was thrown over the bodywork of a Skoda Fabia. Seymour Drive – A metal window shutter was damaged allowing access to the living room. Sutton Way – Front window to property, left ajar forced open causing damage. No entry gained. Poole Hall Road – An electricity substation was broken into and the high voltage was switched off. Loxdale Drive – Thieves broke into a shed after climbing over garages and fencing at the back. Hawthorn Road – Vandals caused a crack in a front lounge window. Whetstone Hey – A large stone was thrown through the glass in a back door. Lupus Way – An unknown substance was put into a door lock causing damage. Whitby Park – An unlocked gold Apollo mountain bike was taken from near the skate park. North Road – Thieves stole six 30m lengths of copper cable from the Cheshire Power site after cutting through the mesh boundary fencing. Parklands – An iPhone, which was left in a taxi, was stolen. Green Lane – A bag containing numerous items was stolen from a Mercedes Sprinter van, parked on the road. Chalfield Close – Silver hub caps were stolen from a Jaguar car. Fulwood Mews – Power tools including a circular saw, angle grinder and multi tools were taken from a Ford Transit parked on the driveway. Naylor Road – All four tyres were slashed on a Mazda 2 car. Woodchurch Lane – A Vauxhall Corsa was keyed twice, causing scratching to the doors, bonnet and boot. Princes Road – Two tyres were slashed on a Ford Kuga. Archers Way – All four tyres were slashed on a Vauxhall Mokka. Mill Lane – A fire was reported at a large, empty turkey shed at Mill Lane Poultry Farm.

Losing your baby weight After having a baby nine months ago and speaking to lots of other mums, losing baby weight is the first topic many women complain about, lack of sleep obviously being at the top of the list! During your pregnancy women are now encouraged to stay active. I was told to continue doing what I was doing providing I felt well enough to do so and obviously modify where necessary. So up until 30 weeks I continued Boogie Bouncing, Fat blasting, Attended the gym and taught my weekly Zumba class. I didn’t however feel fine after giving birth, a complicated C section left me unable to walk properly and in a huge amount of pain. It was weeks before even walking was bearable, I was itching to feel like myself again and to fit into my jeans. Reality hit that things take longer than I first thought, which I think is key to women wanting to lose the baby weight. Giving yourself time to recover properly prevents infections, complications and setbacks in getting you back to normal. If you have your baby by C section it’s important to be mindful that this is major surgery! However this isn’t the time to think you can eat what you want and use your recovery as an excuse to add on extra LBS. Think carefully about your diet, yes if you’re breast feeding you may shed some extra weight faster, but if your scoffing your face with chocolate and cakes this isn’t going to get you feeling trim again. High iron is often recommended after having a baby so foods like leafy greens, red meats and cereals are encouraged in your diet. So when can you exercise? Well firstly you need the OK off your GP. Once you have had your 6-8 week check and they have given you the green light your good to go. However easy does it, in those six weeks before been checked you might want to take a walk, keeping mobile helps with circulation and pram pushing is a nice way to get out the house whilst gradually getting your heart rate up. If you feel fine, increase this to a brisk walk, maybe use an incline to make it harder or

Start by getting your fitness up, walking, jogging, low impact aerobics, swimming etc. Once you’re feeling fitter you can start increasing the effort level. Aim to also use weights or attend classes that incorporate toning. Ensure you tell the instructor before the session that you are a new mum, so they can modify where appropriate. By building the muscles again especially around your weaker areas, lower back for example you will prevent a poor posture and start work on that mum tum! Having a baby is tiring, lack of sleep plays a major factor in your daily well-being so it’s essential you also take some time out for yourself. Look after your body, it needs to recover, eat foods high in protein and rich in vitamins and minerals. But get moving, exercise for me is a huge stress relief, even when you have no energy a good class can leave you feeling elated and full of energy no matter how tired you were previous. Busy summer holidays at the libraries Making physics fun Little Sutton Library is the venue for ‘Physics in the field’, fun, hands-on experiments for young scientists on Monday 31st July, 10am-12noon. This is a drop-in session - no need to book. Zoo rangers pay a visit The Chester Zoo Safari Rangers will be at local libraries this August. It is a fun, hands-on, interactive and using an incredible collection of artefacts, this is a fun show with no live animals and suitable for 6-12-year-olds. Numbers are limited so please book your place in advance. The rangers will be at Hope Farm Library on Tuesday 29th August, in the morning from 10.30am and in the afternoon at Little Sutton Library from 2.30pm. Animals takeover local libraries Children will have the chance to meet exotic animals at local libraries this summer. Suitable for 6-12-year-olds there will be a number of different animals brought along for children to touch. The animals will be at Hope Farm Library on Friday 11th August at 2.30pm.

SUMMER COLOUR August usually bring the late flowering perennials such as Japanese Anemone. As we have had a mild winter and dry spring into early summer, some plants are flowering almost a month early. So I am going to suggest plants that usually flower in August but may be going over this year! Not many shrubs flower in late summer but one that will give white flowers is Eucryphia x nymansensis Nymansay. A bit of a mouthful to say, but if you have space (it will achieve 10m by 4m in time), a sheltered spot and soil that is slightly acidic it will flower over a long period with many pure white flowers as can be seen from the photo. There are good examples on the Wirral where there is a maritime climate. Perennials that flower in August include Actaea Brunette which has dark purple foliage and then sends up tall spires of white bottlebrush flowers. Plant it next to glossy green leaves to show the foliage. It likes a moisture retentive soil and flower stems will soar to 2m in height. If you plant yellow Crocosmia Sulphurea and Kniphofia Little Maid in front of the Actaea, the yellow flowers will show well against the dark foliage. All prefer a moisture retentive soil. Clematis flowering in August will give colour if grown through a shrub that flowered earlier in the year. Clematis viticella varieties such Etoile Violette with rich dark blue flowers will do well in a shady spot. For a larger more robust plant try Clematis tangutica with yellow pixie hat shaped flowers in abundance. Jobs to do in the garden include planting daffodils, crocus and chionodoxa bulbs. Dead head roses and buddleia flowers to keep the plants looking good. Prune evergreens in August but not later as new growth is more likely to be damaged by frost. Pinch out the tops of runner beans and tomato plants to encourage production of beans and tomatoes. Keep them well watered in dry weather. If you would like to visit gardens look out for gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme where all proceeds go to charities including Marie Cure Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support. Abbeywood Gardens, Delamere opens on 13th August. The prairie planting in a large landscape is superb and there is also an exotic garden filled with tender plants providing colour. German jailed for murdering man in Ellesmere Port eight years ago A 29-year-old man has been sentenced after being found guilty of the murder of man in Ellesmere Port in 2009. Manuel Wagner was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court to life in prison with a minimum term of 16 years, after being found guilty of the murder of 36-year-old French national Christophe Borgye. Wagner was previously found not guilty of assisting an offender and preventing a lawful burial but new evidence Manuel Wagner (left) killed Christophe Borgye came to light in 2015 and he was rearrested. Wagner, a German national, was subsequently charged in connection with the death of flight attendant Christophe Borgye at a house on Hylton Court, Ellesmere Port. Christophe, originally from Ronchin, France, had been reported missing to police by a work colleague in May 2009 but enquiries at the time led officers and his family to believe he had left the country. However, four years later in May 2013, police made the shocking discovery after Sebastian Bendou , who has since been sentenced for his part in the death, contacted the force and confessed to Christophe’s murder. He was taken to the property by officers and showed them where the body was concealed. A search of the property led to the discovery of a concrete structure in the outbuilding. A low brick wall had been built inside the structure to conceal the body with three separate layers of concrete placed over the body to bury it. In 2014, Sebastian Bendou, now 39, was jailed for a minimum of 14 years after being found guilty of murdering his former housemate. Christophe’s other housemate Dominik Kocher, now aged 38, was also found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of 23 years in 2014. DEVASTATING DS Steve Currie said: “This was a complicated case from the very beginning and devastating for the family who for so long were unaware Christophe had been brutally murdered by people thought to be his friends. “Christophe‘s family will finally see all those responsible for his murder being punished for their part in this shocking crime. “I hope the conviction encourages those with information about old or new cases to come forward. While they cannot bring Christophe back, his family now have complete justice and the final jigsaw piece in this shocking crime is finally in place, thanks to new information being given to police.”

From a beauty perspective it can wreak havoc with skin, hair growth, figure maintenance and general wellbeing. So what happens in the menopause? As ovarian activity slows down the B-estradiol lev-els decrease, oestrogen and progesterone levels fall and can no longer mask the testos-terone which is produced by our adrenal glands throughout our lives. This can lead to accelerated skin ageing, excess hair on the face, spots, changes in fat distribution on the body, mood changes and even a deepening of the voice! Luckily, there are many treatments that can assist with making you look good and feel better in the beauty salon during and after the menopause. The first tip addresses the issue of drier skin. Lower oestrogen levels slows down the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the basal lay-er of the epidermis resulting in skin becoming drier and thinner. This, in turn, reduces barrier function leading to even drier skin. Opt for skin treatments and products based on ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar, which attracts moisture to the skin without adding oil. Look for vitamin rich products for their antioxidant and anti-ageing properties. In addition taking evening primrose oil often helps dry skin conditions too.
