Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile!

It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving

people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Great Sutton and Little Sutton areas &

Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends

and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

A You don’t have to spend a vast amount of money to purchase a Geberit toilet. There are also less expensive models in the range such as the Geberit AquaClean 4000. This compact loo seat is designed to replace your existing loo seat and is straightforward to install, as it fits on the existing seat.

Over 1500 people have chosen us to fit their loft ladder, this is because we offer:

Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets?

• A FREE home visit • A FREE written quotation

A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply. Q I’m really interested in buying a Geberit toilet with a spray function, but I have heard they’re very expensive. Are there any more affordable alternatives?

• Fully guaranteed • A large selection of ladders

Gardening by Janet Heath

The promise of spring Late winter can often bring a blast of cold weather but it does not stop plants from starting to grow and flower. Bulbs start the year with crocuses and snowdrops out first. Crocuses do best in sun as the flowers will open wide in the sun, then close as the sun leaves them. Crocus tommasinianus has pale mauve flowers with golden stamens in the middle and the birds do not damage the blooms. Birds seem to like the larger flowers especially yellow ones, so I now avoid growing these! A shady site with well drained soil under deciduous trees suits the snowdrops better. They will gradually carpet the ground under trees and shrubs. I would

also add Iris reticulata to my early flowering bulbs. These small but exotic blue, white or creamy coloured flowers will enjoy a sunny or lightly shaded spot in any well drained soil. Plant all these bulbs in groups close together for best effect. An early flowering climber is Clematis cirrhosa Wisley Cream. This is an evergreen climber that will do well in a sheltered sunny position and give you white, slightly scented flowers in late winter. Ensure the roots are kept cool with the growth in the sun. Prune to shape after flowering but this variety only needs pruning if it becomes too large and to remove dead stems. Witch hazel or Hamamelis is another early flowering shrub although be warned, the flowers are small so don’t expect a

showy plant. However they do look good in light woodland with tiny spidery yellow, red or orange flowers, often slightly scented. In autumn the leaves turn red or yellow. Underplant with snowdrops and crocuses and plant next to a Cornus alba sibirica with red stems for a colourful display in February. Mulch those perennials whose buds are just below the surface of the soil with a layer of well rotted manure. Paeonies have big fat buds at soil level, rodgersias and heleniums sit just below the surface and all would have new shoots protected from freezing by a cosy layer of mulch. Also mulch fruit trees and shrubs with a layer of manure and complete pruning of apples and pears before buds start to grow.

Great War hero’s name added to war memorial More than one hundred years after World War One began and 95 years since George E Keats died on a Great War battlefield in France, his name is to be added to an Ellesmere Port war memorial. George was only 14 when he lied about his age to join the army and serve his country in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. The Keats family had moved to Ellesmere Port from Walsall to work in the iron industry and George, from Victoria Road, is buried at the cemetery at Christ Church in a military grave. But his name was never added on to the war memorial. In a special ceremony led by Rev Gordon McGuinness, with many veterans and representatives of veteran groups present, wreaths were laid by Mayor of Ellesmere Port Councillor Brian Jones, Chair of the local branch of the Royal British Legion Chris Williams, and family member Ray Wardle. Susan Wardle, an active member of the local branch of the Normandy Veterans’ Association, at the request of Ray Wardle, a nephew of George E Keats, contacted Cllr Brian Jones

and the council agreed to add his name to the memorial. Cllr Jones, who led the wreath laying ceremony, said: “It was with great respect that I could lay a wreath in honour of George E Keats, whose name has finally been added to the memorial. “It was good to see so many people present at the ceremony, including members of his family. It just goes to show that we in Ellesmere Port never forget those people who have served us.” This is the third name to be added to Ellesmere Port’s war memorials in the past few years. Last year the names of A. Lilley and S. Taylor were added to the war memorial on Civic Square. The projects have been funded from the Council’s town centre improvement budget. Member of the local branch of the Normandy Veterans Association, Susan Wardle, said: “Thank you to everyone who has been involved in getting George Ernest Keats’ name put on the cenotaph at Christ Church. At last in his place of honour.”

Rev Gordon McGuiness; Ray Wardle (nephew of George E. Keats); John Dennit (who said the exhortation); Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Councillor Brian Jones; Susan Wardle (carrying the Royal British Legion Little Sutton standard); Gordon Kipps (carrying Cheshire Regiment standard); Gordon Jones carrying Normandy Veterans Association standard and Collin Simpson carrying Royal British Legion Ellesmere Port standard.
