Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile!
It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Great Sutton and Little Sutton areas &
Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends
and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Pupils bring bright idea to fruition A school choir helped bring in the festive spirit to the centre of Childer Thornton for the Christmas lights switch on. Funded from the Member Budget of Willaston and Thornton Councillor Myles Hogg, the children from Childer Thornton Primary School joined in the countdown for the lights to be turned on. Cllr Hogg said: “The children’s singing was absolutely fantastic and got everyone present in the Christmas spirit. “I also welcome the fact that the lights switch on is getting bigger each year.”

The light touch to ease pain
Hayley Ryder experiences the Bowen Fascial Release Technique
R
ELIEF for my painful bad back?
I am always a little sceptical when I read someone can help with people’s ailments with no pills or medicines. So when I read that back pain, sports injuries, irritable bowel syndrome, sleep problems and fertility to name a few can be treated by Bowen Facial Release Technique I was intrigued to see if this was true. I booked the appointment after suffering from a bad back, a painful left knee and muscle tightness across my shoulders. I’m a bit of a fitness fanatic but it certainly does take its toll on your body. Nicholas Tobin, based in Heswall, welcomed me to his home-run business on a chilly Wednesday morning. After learning more about Nick and the number of clients who entered in immense pain but walked out smiling it gave me great cause for hope! My treatment began after I laid down and relaxed. Nicholas had talked through the procedure so I knew what to expect. No rough, deep tissue massages or cracking backs, just light hands on and off movements, that roll over the muscles and the surrounding connective tissues at specific points. Time in between each movement was given to allow the body to respond and rebalance and I was certainly left feeling relaxed. The treatment itself lasted around 45 minutes, with extra time to discuss my medical history and how to use the techniques in the future.
NIGGLES
This treatment is used for all sorts of different problems, just look at the list opposite or visit the website for more information. The stories are amazing and although this is something medical professionals tend to overlook, the studies and results speak for themselves. It’s suitable for men, women of all ages, even children. So whether it’s a frozen shoulder, back problems, fertility issues, injuries, hay fever, tilted pelvis or anything else that maybe causing a little niggle, come and give it a try. The advice is: Don’t leave it! The longer you have an ache or pain the more sessions you may need, so get it fixed sooner rather than later! It’s also worth considering as an unusual Christmas gift idea that may be greatly welcomed by anyone suffering those ailments. I left feeling invigorated and have booked another two sessions. I can’t wait to feel the results, if one session makes you feel like this, I should be a new woman after three! Thanks Nicholas for making me feel so welcome and introducing me to a whole different form of treatment I had never even considered before. I also got some relaxation bath salts to take away!

Any Problem Can Potentially Be Addressed • The Bowen Technique is gentle, subtle and relaxing hands-on treatment. • Not a form of massage; there is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue. • Safe for people of all ages; promotes healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. Appointments take about 45 minutes and can be performed through light clothing. There are a series of short breaks allowing your body to respond to the gentle moves, subtle and fine adjustments which re-balance, relieve tension and reduce pain. Three or four treatments at weekly intervals are usually sufficient to achieve lasting relief from even long standing pain. To receive maximum benefit it is recommended not to mix with other therapies such as massage, reflexology, physiotherapy etc. Treatment Costs £35 for an individual session or £90 in advance for a series of three.

The Geberit AquaClean range is comfortable and stylish too. And with a model to suit every style of home, it would make a perfect addition to your new spa-like bathroom.
A You don’t have to spend a vast amount of money to purchase a Geberit toilet. There are also less expensive models in the range such as the Geberit AquaClean 4000. This compact loo seat is designed to replace your existing loo seat and is straightforward to install, as it fits on the existing seat.
Over 1500 people have chosen us to fit their loft ladder, this is because we offer:
Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets?
• A FREE home visit • A FREE written quotation
A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply. Q I’m really interested in buying a Geberit toilet with a spray function, but I have heard they’re very expensive. Are there any more affordable alternatives?
• Fully guaranteed • A large selection of ladders

Booklet reveals history of Whitby Road THE Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Councillor Brian Jones, has officially launched a booklet detailing the history of Whitby Road, written from local people’s experiences and memories. Compiled by the Ellesmere Port Local & Family History Society, ‘Whitby Road Memories’ remembers shops including Burtons, Co-op, Cleggs, The Louvre, and Dyson’s to name just a few and shares the tales through the eyes of the local community. The booklet will be available at locations around the town including Trinity Church, Montague Cafe, the Paperboat Gallery, and through the Society and has been completed at the same time as workmen uncovered a historic shop front sign above 2c Whitby Road. During recent shop front improvements at Davies Car Sales, the original shop
sign of grocer J. M. Bolton has been uncovered, and been temporarily left in situ for viewing. The old signage of Bolton grocer with slogan ’noted for best bacon’ was amongst more uncovered signage including R.T. Valentine Ltd - butcher, and Stanways Garage. Chairwoman of the Ellesmere Port Local & Family History Society, Celia Webber, said: “It’s been an absolute joy to collect the stories and photos of Whitby Road from the Society’s members and their friends.” Local resident and contributor Anne Lodge, Councillor Justin Madders, Mayor of Ellesmere Port Councillor Brian Jones, Jochem Hollestelle (CWAC), Celia Webber - Chairwoman Local and Family History Society, and Adrian Davies from Davies Car Sales.

Plants to cheer the bleak midwinter The new year is a challenging time if you want flowers in your garden. Here are some ideas of plants that will brighten your day in winter. I love Hellebore orientalis which will really give you large colourful flowers in white, pink and velvet dark purple. They are easy to grow and are better suited to slightly shady spots where the soil does not dry out. I always warn my clients that the sap is poisonous and could cause vomiting if ingested or irritation to the skin. So always wear gloves when touching the plants and wash your hands thoroughly after handling. Alnwick Castle Gardens has these plants in their poison garden for good reason! Iris unguicularis is a winter flowering iris which will open
flowers in milder spells. The thin strappy foliage is not attractive but the flowers are beautiful, as you can see from the photograph. Another favourite of mine is the winter flowering cherry, Prunus sibhirtella Autumnalis. This is a small tree which has flowers on and off all winter in milder temperatures. The branches are covered in pink flowers on leafless stems and look very attractive against a dark fence or hedge. Sarococca or Winter Box is another good plant for winter. It has tiny white flowers giving off a heady scent. It is evergreen, will get to about 1m tall in time and will also tolerate lower light levels. For flowers from December to March plant a winter cherry, a couple of Sarcococca,
underplanted with hellebores, Iris unguicularis, snowdrops, small daffodils and chinodoxa and you will have flowers from December to March, year after year. There is some work to do in your garden in January starting with pruning fruit trees and bushes except plums and cherries. Grape vines should be pruned before mid January. After this time the sap begins to rise and the cuts will bleed. Order your first early seed potatoes and set them on a windowsill in a cool place to chit ready to plant out early varieties in March. Plant bare rooted fruit trees and shrubs if the soil is not frozen. Mulch the plants with manure around the roots to protect from freezing.

3 Ways to improve your fitness in
Talkabout January 2015 23 1. Regular Exercise
Do a little each day! Find an activity that fits easily into your daily routine. A good activity is walking. You can go walking on your own, or with a friend, at a convenient time and location - you will be surprised at how far you can walk in 20 minutes!
2. Join a Group / Training Session
When you join a class and get to know the coach/trainer and other members of the group, you will want to continue to turn up...& feel better for it too! A regular weekly class is often easier to fit into your schedule. Did you know that after a session, your metabolic rate remains high for many hours, so you continue to burn calories?
3. Personal Trainer
There are plenty of qualified Instructors around that can offer 1-to-1 training. Lots of people find this personalised factor right for them and an excellent method to sustain motivation. Golf course to go into private hands HOOTON Golf Course is set to be taken out of council control and run instead by a private provider. Cheshire West and Chester Council believes that switching the Ellesmere Port course to the private sector will lead to improved facilities while keeping the ‘Pay and Play’ policy for golfers who do not want to pay club fees. Council chiefs heard that the three West Cheshire courses, currently operated by Brio Leisure, are subsidised to the extent of £246,000 annually. Cllr Stuart Parker, Executive Member for Culture and Economy, told members: “Many private sector courses are providing ‘Pay and Play’ rates that compete with Municipal courses. “Consequently, the council and Brio have jointly agreed to look at the market to provide golf course operation, secure capital investment to improve the courses and reduce current subsidy.”
