Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving

people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Great Sutton and Little Sutton areas &

Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends

and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Have you herd about our zoo visit? Pupils from Little Sutton Primary school had a backstage pass at the elephant house at Chester Zoo. They met the elephant keepers and got a great insight behind the scenes of the elephant enclosure. During the morning they toured the herd’s bedrooms; quizzed keeper Alan about his elephant knowledge and got a glimpse of the amazing work the keepers do to train the elephants so they can care for them from a distance. Pupils also discovered more about the charitable work Chester Zoo does to help protect the wild Asian Elephants in Assam, near Tibet, where their forest habitats are being destroyed by farmers for growing land. The pupils will be doing a number of writing pieces to accompany our visit and hope to do some fund raising to thank the Zoo for the free visit and accompanying book and to support them in their Assam Haathi Project which you can find out more about on their website.

Civic honours for MPs and local councillors MP Justin Madders and his predecessor Andrew Miller have been recognised for their years of public service in West Cheshire. Mr Madders (right), who lives in Little Sutton, was awarded the title of Honorary Alderman after serving as a local councillor for Cheshire West and Chester Council for many years. Last year he successfully stood for election as an MP, winning the Ellesmere Port and Neston seat which meant giving up his place on the local council. The award of Honorary Alderman was bestowed to eight long serving councillors for their commitment and dedication to West Cheshire. An Honorary Alderman of Cheshire West and Chester Council is entitled to attend civic receptions and other civic ceremonies where all Members of the Council are invited, and will be notified of matters of significant civic interest by the Civic Team. An Honorary Alderman has a minimum of 12 years’ service as a Councillor and /or service as Leader of the Council or Chairman of the Council. Another local councillor, Bob Crompton (left) has been made an Honorary Alderman too. Cllr Crompton is a Conservative member for Whitby and a former Sheriff of Chester. He moved to Ellesmere Port in 1994 on retiring from 30 years in the RAF and has taken on a number of roles within the local council since being elected. Former MP Andrew Miller has been given the title of Honorary Freeman. Mr Miller served as the Labour MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston for 23 years before retiring last year. The title of Honorary Freeman is the highest honour the Council can bestow and has its roots in mediaeval times, arising from the practice of granting respected citizens freedom from serfdom. 12 Tel 01244 350398 www.southwirral.com

HEALTH AND FITNESS BLOG

HOW COMMITTED ARE YOU? How committed are you? Do you really push yourself or is your mind set holding you back? Take this little quiz to find out if your super fit or how you could do more! 1. On average how many nights a week are you active? I’m active In my job I dont need to exercise (0 points) 1-2 nights (1 point) 2-3 nights (2 points) 4 + nights (3 points) 2. Food preparation and eating I skip meals and eat an evening meal (0 points) I eat as and when I can (1 point) I eat healthily in the day and reward myself at nights (2 points) I eat healthily all week and reward myself with 1 cheat meal per week (3 points) 3. At classes I would say ... I only attend when I have a friend to come with me (0 points) I push myself only when I have the energy (1 point) I am getting better as I get fitter (2 points) I push myself to the max (3 points) 4. The following reasons are a good enough reason to not attend my fitness group I have had a stressful day (0 points) The weather is awful its cold and miserable (0 points) Husband was running late I’ll be late (0 points) I have a cold (0 point) I have an injury (1 point) Family emergency (2 points) 5. My fitness attire... I will spend £5-10 on fitness gear (0 points) I’m not wasting money on decent trainers they all work the same (0 points) I will buy the latest trend if they are worth having (2 points) I will wait for recommendations and research what I need before I buy (3 points) 6. If I miss a class I will... Miss the rest of the week and start fresh next week (0 points) It wasn’t my fault my friend couldnt come I’ll start again when she does (0 points) I’ll make up for it by doing 20 mins at home (1 point) I’ll do what I can at home and attend other classes this week to make up for lost times (2 points) I never miss a class its my routine now (3 points)

If you scored 0-6 points Skipping meals and classes at any given opportunity is a no brainer that you wont get to where you want to be fast. Your mind set really needs to change, if the weather bad and you dont feel like it, its about getting that get up and go no matter what you state of mind. Use family and friends to push you and only use one weekend day as a treat day. Skipping meals especially breakfast causes low blood sugars, you crave rubbish foods in the day and you end up eating more throughout. Plan meals and make large batches on Sundays to freeze and store for the week. Your activity needs to be upped to at least the recommended daily time, with the right footwear and clothing. Being busy in your job doesnt mean you’re giving your heart a work out and exercising helps elminate stress, no excuses! Get on BOOGIE BOUNCE with me to really obviate stress factors. If you scored 6-12 points It sounds like your half way there but little things can sway your motivation. You like to buy the gear to show willing but too often a bad day or a small factor can throw off your routine. Set a target of where you want to be and set realistic goals of how to achieve this. Push yourself that bit further to get to obtain good results and ensure you have a willing and encouraging work out buddy to keep you on track. Personal training would be of you to you as this would give you the extra push you require and break bad haibts. You scored 12 + points WOW you’re a super committed and a fitness lover, you strive to stick to commit and you keep on track no matter what the weather or circumstances. You only buy decent equipment and clothing as its essential to look after yourself with support and good footwear. You dont rely on a friend to motivate you as you will attend your training based on your own motivation and determination. Food is there for fuel only and week days are for looking after your body inside and out, treats are minimal but your hardwork pays off as overall health and your appearance is fit and flourishing! To push yourself further you would need to try new things and shock your body, eg if your a zumba lover, bring weights and add that extra push to your body. Or if your a runner, try using inclines to max yoruself out! One off personal training sessions to show you where you could improve would also be of use. We’ve taken on 2 apprentices and making this significant investment into the building can only improve it.” “Our new showroom will be completely unique for the Wirral, and will revolutionise the experience of buying a new bathroom for our customers. you can easily upgrade your existing loo. They all include an oscillating shower with forward and backwards movement, air purification and a warm air dryer.

The Geberit AquaClean range is comfortable and stylish too. And with a model to suit every style of home, it would make a perfect addition to your new spa-like bathroom.

A You don’t have to spend a vast amount of money to purchase a Geberit toilet. There are also less expensive models in the range such as the Geberit AquaClean 4000. This compact loo seat is designed to replace your existing loo seat and is straightforward to install, as it fits on the existing seat.

Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets?

A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply.

GARDENING BY JANET HEATH

EARLY SPRING MAGIC

MARCH is when spring comes to life with unstoppable new growth, usually offset with gales and frost to damage new shoots but there is always colour or scent to enjoy. March is the best month for daffodils with some many varieties to choose from. I enjoy visiting Dunham Massey winter gardens to see many varieties en masse and took this photo of Narcissus Jenny with larger yellow daffodils behind them. Daffodils are good under deciduous trees or in full sun. Another more unusual bulb out in March is the Erythronium or Dog’s Tooth Violet. More fussy than daffodils, they like light shade and the moisture retentive yet well drained soil that some of find so difficult to achieve! However, if planted around deciduous shrubs and left alone they will give lovely leaves with elegant flowers. Erythronium tuolomense has buttercup yellow flowers or try varieties like Pagoda with pale yel-low blooms or White Beauty with white flowers. Before many of the perennials pop up, shrubs start to get going. Ribes or flowering currant usually is in flower before Forsythia and is very tough. It survives in cold windswept gardens but does best in a more sheltered spot in sun or part shade. The combination of Ribes and Pieris looks stunning for early spring colour. Pieris prefers a slightly acid to neutral soil with some shelter but the combination of white flowers and red or yellow new growth brings life to the garden. If it is scent that you look for try Daphnes. Daphne odora is a rounded evergreen shrub up to 1m high with pink starry highly scented flowers in early spring. Grow somewhere sheltered and where you can smell the fragrance. Another good one is Daphne bholua which is taller, semi evergreen but with the same winter fragrance. Well drained soil that does not dry out is best. Finish tidying the dead growth from last year to allow perennials and grasses to get going. Plant seeds of tomatoes, chillies and cucumbers and keep in a warm place such as windowsill or heated propagator. Ensure that you have completed the pruning of roses and cut back winter flowering heathers when they have finished flowering.
