Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving

people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Great Sutton and Little Sutton areas &

Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends

and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

School gives a run out to daily mile scheme ROSSMORE Primary School, in Little Sutton, is among several schools in the area to join the Daily Mile initiative. The school is encouraging children from nursery to Year Six and their teachers to run or walk a mile each day. Councillor Louise Gittins, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Wellbeing said: “Cheshire West and Chester Council is keen to help our children and young people be healthier and we are pleased to be one of the partners delivering the Daily Mile initiative across primary schools. “Starting Well is a priority area within our Health and Wellbeing Strategy and this exciting initiative will help deliver the outcomes within the strategy by tackling childhood obesity

and improving health and wellbeing through physical activity. “In addition the Daily Mile initiative addresses the 5 Ways to Wellbeing of Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Give and Keep Learning.” The Daily Mile first began at a school in Scotland and equates to an extra 15 minutes of physical activity each day to run or walk a mile. The children go out in almost all weathers at a time of the teacher’s choosing. Alison Lee, the Chief Executive Officer of NHS West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “NHS West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group is proud to be involved in the introduction of the Daily Mile in primary schools across

Christine Holme pictured with her ‘Estuary Light’ exhibition at Staacks Gallery, West Kirby.

Christine is in the frame at Wirral gallery Ellesmere Port artist Christine Holme’s colourful artwork has been on display in West Kirby. She has produced a collection of paintings which hang in the Staacks Gallery, at 83 Banks Road, West Kirby. The exhibition, entitled ‘Estuary Light,’ was inspired by walks on the Wirral coast and the Dee Estuary. Christine said: “It’s taken me quite a while to complete all the paintings, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it feels great to see them all assembled in the gallery.” Christine, a self-employed artist and art tutor, is a former pupil of Grange Comprehensive School, Ellesmere Port, and attended Mid Cheshire College before being honoured with a degree in sculpture while studying at Sheffield Polytechnic. Christine divides her time between painting, being an art tutor and working alongside her cousin, Sue Harper, as Buzzy B Art and Craft Workshops. They run a children’s club on Saturday mornings at Trinity Methodist Church in Ellesmere Port, as well as other workshops with various community groups. Further details about the exhibition can be found online on Christine’s Facebook page and information about her work can be found on her website: www.artistcholme.com

Opening up Whitby’s hidden treasure WORK to open up views into the ‘hidden treasure’ of Whitby Park from Stanney Lane is now complete. The work was carried out by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Town Centre Improvement team as part of a scheme to improve the approach to Ellesmere Port town. The landscaping works were part of a programme of town centre improvements funded through a special budget ring fenced for the town centre of Ellesmere Port. Works consisted of removal of a stretch of existing perimeter hedgerow, removal of old railings and replacing them in the style of railings near the park entrance, installation of new railings, replacing hedgerow to the front and side of the park and planting new trees, including liquid amber trees in symmetry with those in front of the Army Reserve Centre, as part of the Stanney Lane Boulevard. Councillor Mark Henesy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Community said: “Major successful works have already been carried out at the park including the recent clearing of the pond, but by cleaning up the perimeter has made the inside look truly wonderful. This work is a great opportunity to really show off Whitby Park to the passing public.” This work is part of ongoing investments in the park and follows a new community café in Whitby Hall, path widening in front of the park, installation of free running Parkour, and pond clean up. Write, act and dance on the same day Are you a writer, a dancer, an actor or have ever fancied having a go at all three? Try all three for free! Taking place in the half-term holidays and starting on Wednesday 1st June, the takeover will finish on Friday 3rd June with a special performance. The three-day event will be run by a group of industry experts from Action Transport Theatre and Cheshire Dance. Trio jailed for string of burglaries THREE men are behind bars after admitting conspiracy to commit burglaries across Ellesmere Port and Chester. James Monaghan, 22, from the Ellesmere Port area, Nathan Elliott, 22, from Faraday Road in Ellesmere Port and Connor Coppock, 19, originally from the Blacon area of Chester, appeared at Chester Crown Court to be sentenced. Monaghan was sentenced to three years and nine months for his part, while Elliott was sentenced to two years and three months and Coppock was sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison. Monaghan also admitted taking a motor vehicle without consent and given a three year driving ban. They had admitted 11 offences relating to conspiracy to commit burglary dwellings and conspiracy to commit burglary other than dwellings following a series of house burglaries and shed and garage breaks. The offences occurred in November where they stole a range of items including cars, motor cross bikes, mountain bikes, jewellery and money. A DNA hit led officers to a place in Blacon where the three were staying. A search revealed stolen property from the burglaries. DC Iestyn Lewis-Jones said: “They ransacked houses and outbuildings, opened Christmas presents and stole sentimental jewellery as well as expensive bikes during their spree across Ellesmere Port and Chester. However they were stopped in their tracks after one of the men left DNA on the straw of an empty carton of orange juice found with garden equipment stolen from a garage in Chester. Our investigation tied them to further offences and now they are paying for their actions.

Mother, Baby and Bowen Therapy During pregnancy Bowen Therapy has a very important role to play in the health care of women both during and after pregnancy. The Bowen Technique is integral for Mothers-To-Be as it is one of the only therapies that can be performed in its entirety, being very gentle, with the patient sitting down or lying on their side, whilst remaining clothed. Bowen Therapy can treat all common pregnancy pains from morning sickness and tiredness to physical pain such as back ache and sciatica and assist with digestive problems as well as psychological and emotional well-being. For new mothers Bowen is helpful in speeding recovery after birth. Treatment focuses on encouraging the uterus to contract and helping the pelvis to realign. The sooner after labour the mother comes for treatment, the more effective Bowen therapy will be. For babies Birth is one of the most traumatic processes a child will go through and Bowen Therapy can be given within days of birth. Bowen can be extremely effective in treating colic, digestive problems, chest infections and restlessness as it is gentle enough to be used on the most delicate of babies. As babies change so fast often the results can be seen during the course of the session. Bowen is generally pleasant to receive each session lasting 30 to 60 minutes. Many clients become so relaxed they fall asleep during treatment. For more information on Bowen Therapy refer to Wirral Bowen Therapy above and for other Bowen Therapy Professional Association members in your area visit www.bowen-therapy.co.uk 160844 Tel 01244 or call 561 7173 350398 www.southwirral.com

Hayley’s health and fitness

HEALTH AND FITNESS BLOG

Dieting without exercise... dont do it!

Diet and exercise go hand in hand, very rarely will you hear exercise or medical professionals telling people to do one without the other.

So why is it so important? Basically it doesnt matter if you are size 8 or 18 you can still be unfit. Fitness levels aren’t based on your outside appearance but instead on your ability to complete day to day tasks effortlessly and with ease. Running up the stairs, cleaning the house, gardening, doing the washing, even getting out of bed all have their secret exercise term. such as picking up two shopping bags, you ll use the same motion as lifting dumbells therefore this is a bicep curl, reaching to put tins on top shelf is same motion as a shoulder press etc. So if I can do these does this mean Im fit? Not necessarily, fitness doesnt stop there. Physical fitness as a technical term is a combination of qualities that enable us to be at our full potential in performing vigorous physical activities. It’s your flexiblity, your muscular strength, your muscular endurance and so on... so can all these factors be achieved from losing weight? The answer is no! Losing weight is an amazing feeling you feel better in your appearance, your clothes fit better and the compliments are through the roof, but if you cant go for a walk or play with the children without getting out of breath this probably isnt the desired look you were going for! Losing weight through dieting doesn’t build any muscle tone, which as we get older we

know is essential for good posture, burning calories at rest and preventing sore joints. So what should you do? Simple... do both. Eat healthily and move more. Don’t eat less and not exercise and expect to get a sexy body shape and physique, it won’t happen. Excess skin and bingo wings are common factors of the above. Keeping your calories at a minus of 500 calories per day will see you lose 1lb a week, exercise daily and burn off 500 calories per session and you ll be looking to lose 2lb. Your fitness levels in 6 weeks will dramatically improve and even if the scales dont show it your clothes will begin to get looser and you will expect to see a change in body shape. Going off the scales is a common misconception for measuring weight loss, always great to keep an eye on what your number your at but weighing yourself daily isnt recommmended. If you’re following an exercise programme, you will have heard muscle weighs more than fat and to get a good muscle tone and body shape muscle is exactly what you need more of! Keep weighing to 6-8 weeks but monitor how you feel in yourself and the fit of your clothes. Getting a size smaller jeans is always a good motivational factor of seeing how far you have come, and if you have a good shapely bum and killer legs to fit in them then even better! The Geberit AquaClean range is comfortable and stylish too. And with a model to suit every style of home, it would make a perfect addition to your new spa-like bathroom.

A You don’t have to spend a vast amount of money to purchase a Geberit toilet. There are also less expensive models in the range such as the Geberit AquaClean 4000. This compact loo seat is designed to replace your existing loo seat and is straightforward to install, as it fits on the existing seat.

Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets?

A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply.

GARDENING BY JANET HEATH

MAY FLOWERS

FOR me, May means blossom on trees and shrubs in predominately pink and white, fresh new foliage, warm days and the promise of home grown vegetables to come. Wisteria flowers hanging in curtains on the plant is one of the most beautiful adornments to a house. The flowers are fragrant so do make sure some blooms are near enough to smell their scent. Best grown in a sunny sheltered spot with fertile well drained soil. Buy plants that have been grafted to get earlier flowering. They need good support and will happily grow around drainpipes or under gutters so keep them trained to stout wires or trellis. For something more unusual, and if you have space for a shrub up to 2m wide and tall, then Viburnum plicatum Maresii or

Lanarth have tiered branches covered with lacy white flowers in May or June. They like moist soil in full sun or light shade and are very hardy. A commonly seen shrub is Exochorda x macrantha The Bride. As the name suggests it has white flowers and grows into a mounded shrub about 1.5m tall and wide with arching stems. Not tidy but it looks great in the corner of a garden in full sun and almost any soil provided it’s not too alkaline or dry. Cut back just after flowering as it flowers on stems produced the previous year. Work to do in the garden includes pruning Forsythia and Ribes after flowering has finished. Plant seeds of runner beans, French beans, courgettes and squashes outside under some protection or in pots if

you haven’t already done so. Purple sprouting broccoli, peas, carrots, lettuce, radishes seeds can be sown outdoors. Plant out tomatoes and cabbages that have been hardened off when no frost is likely. If you would like to visit gardens for ideas, I suggest you look out for gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme where all proceeds go to charities including Marie Cure Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support. Tirley Garth near Willington, Tarporley is open on Sunday 8th and 15th May. This is a Grade II listed Arts and Crafts garden in Cheshire with formal and informal areas. The Rhododendrons and Azaleas are in full flower in May some of which are about 100 years old.
