Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile!
It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Great Sutton and Little Sutton areas &
Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends
and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Pubs’ big push for safe drinking TWO local pubs have taken steps to make people aware of the dangers of excessive drinking. The Travellers Rest, on Ledsham Road, and the Bulls Head, on Old Chester Road, have achieved the Arcangel standard,
working with Cheshire Police to pubgoers enjoy themselves safely. Licensing officer Peter Goring said: “ArcAngel Protected Town is an ongoing initiative designed to help create a safe night time economy, where people can be reassured that the licensed premises they visit are well managed, regulated and safe places to enjoy a night out. It’s great to see licensees in Ellesmere Port working hard to be ready for the launch in the town and to see these two premises already accredited. “Tackling alcohol related problems such as violent conduct and anti-social behaviour is a priority for all the agencies and partners endorsing ArcAngel. “The week of alcohol action is another opportunity for us to encourage people to ensure that they Licensees from the Travellers Rest and the remain safe by drinking Bulls Head with their Arcangel accreditations responsibly and staying in control.”

Are we failing our older generation? Sadly the subject of poor care for the elderly especially those with dementia has been in the news again. Whilst the Care Quality Commission (CQC) says that many care homes are providing excellent care there are still far too many way below an acceptable standard. Inspectors visited 129 care homes and 20 hospitals across England. They found that 90 per cent had some aspect of poor or inconsistent care. They wrote: ‘It is likely that someone living with dementia will experience poor care at some point while living in a care home or being treated in hospital.’ A recent survey said that eight out of ten people find that choosing care for an older relative is one of the most stressful moments in life ranking it higher than getting divorced; choosing a school for their child; getting married or buying a house.
Become a ‘Bunbury Carer at Home’ If you are experienced in looking after elderly people, we want you to join our well respected team of carers.
But let’s keep positive People tell me that when faced with the difficult task of finding care for their loved one it is like walking into a maze blindfolded. For those who have relatives suffering with dementia, it is particularly challenging. I am constantly saying that with the right care and support, most people with dementia can remain living in their own home. In fact, it is much better to be at home and in familiar surroundings if you have dementia. I like to think that our carers are more like personal assistants and companions but with the skills, knowledge and sensitivity to look after elderly people in a dignified and respectful way.
Over the years we have looked after many people with Alzheimer’s, other dementias, Parkinson’s, severe mobility problems and of course those who are just frail due to their age. What about the cost? It is a myth that staying in your own home is more expensive that moving into a care home. We are members of the Society of Later Life Advisors and our specialist SOLLA consultant can advise you about paying for care at home. So remember there are choices and living in your own home for as long as possible is what most of us would prefer.

Q Should I be concerned about how much water is used in spray-function toilets?
• A FREE home visit • A FREE written quotation
A The Geberit AquaClean 4000 only uses 400ml of water at each use, and although this is more than a normal loo, there are positive environmental aspects to this choice, such as using less toilet paper. Water, chemicals and other raw materials are wasted in the production of toilet paper, and while it’s biodegradable, the process still leaves chemical traces in our water supply. Q I’m really interested in buying a Geberit toilet with a spray function, but I have heard they’re very expensive. Are there any more affordable alternatives?
• Fully guaranteed • A large selection of ladders

Capenhurst could be site for nuclear submarine waste CAPENHURST has been confirmed as one of the potential sites to store waste from decommissioned nuclear-powered submarines. Capenhurst and Sellafield in west Cumbria are among the five locations shortlisted by the Ministry of Defence. A public consultation process will now be held over which site is selected. Capenhurst is already home to the nuclear fuel enrichment business run by Urenco. The old British Nuclear Fuels site next door is in the process of being decommissioned. Philip Dunne MP, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology, said: “When the submarines in the Royal Navy fleet reach the end of their lives we need to dispose of them in a way that is safe, secure and environmentally sound. “This open and transparent public consultation process provides the opportunity to work closely with local communities near to potential sites to listen carefully to their views with the aim of delivering a solution that achieves these objectives. The Submarine Dismantling Project will oversee the disposal of 27 Royal Navy nuclear submarines that are due to have left Naval service by the mid 2030s and be defuelled, including 19 submarines that have already left service and are stored afloat at Rosyth and Devonport.
The MoD says the submarines can only be completely dismantled once reactor components, which are categorised as radioactive waste, have been removed. Public consultations will start on 14th November and last for three months, with exhibitions and workshops at the nominated sites. l On the subject of Capenhurst, Urenco has withdrawn plans for replacement car parking on the green belt. Urenco wanted to construct three new car parks, including one at Manorfield Close, Rectory Lane. But there was a major public backlash with locals worried that the village would be overrun with traffic along tight roads from Ledsham. Capenhurst and Ledsham Parish Council also raised objections, all of which were taken into account by planners. A company spokesman said: “Having reviewed the access from Rectory Lane and after talking to the borough council about vehicle numbers and gaining their views on alternative locations on land that the company owns a decision was made to withdraw the application.” The company is expected to build a two storey car park at the main entrance which would have less impact on Capenhurst and Ledsham.

How the plant will look
C Energy-from-waste plant to be built at Hooton Park HOOTON Park is set to be the site for an ‘energyfrom-waste’ plant. The company, Bioessence, has been given the go-ahead from Wirral Council to proceed with the £180million scheme near to the Vauxhall Motors car plant. It is believed that the plant will employ 70 permanent staff as well as hundreds of construction jobs. Bioessence wants to build a 50megawatt gasification facility which will process 260,000 tonnes of pretreated commercial waste using Metso technology. Clearly the idea of a waste processing plant on our doorstep has
been greeted with a certain scepticism but Wirral councillors raised no objections to the technology and only stipulated that the wagons carrying the waste didn’t go through Eastham village. There was also the fear that the Wirral was becoming a dumping ground for other areas’ waste. Business development director Ralf Trottnow said: “The technology proposed has been fully appraised by the Environment Agency and has received a full environmental permit for operation at our East London site in Rainham.
“We will not be requiring any extra land, but the gasification process will need a taller building than we originally sought permission for. We have, therefore, decided it is appropriate to recommence the full planning process in the light of the change in visual impact.” The power generated will be used to power the plant itself with the remainder exported to the national grid. Mr Trottnow added: “We aim to create a virtuous circle, helping divert hundreds of thousands of tonnes of waste away from landfill.”

prepare your garden for winter.
Tender plants such as salvias, fuschias and agapanthus need mulch around the roots with a layer of well rotted manure or compost to protect from freezing. Acers that need pruning should be pruned in winter rather than spring as they can bleed from cuts in spring. Other overgrown shrubs can be cut back after leaves have fallen so you can see the structure clearly. Prunus species are best pruned in late spring and early summer as they are less likely to get silver leaf disease. Wrap planted pots in bubble wrap to help prevent the plant roots freezing. Cut back unsightly foliage and dig out annuals then if you have the inclination, mulch all your borders with a layer of compost or manure to rot down over winter.
