Sun shines for Sutton G Families and children enjoyed an enjoyable day of sport on Thursday as the school held its annual summer Sports Day. KS2 children competed in the morning, with the red team winning overall. Children celebrated individual performances with stickers. KS2 races included a tug of war, lap of the field, javelin, skipping, sack race, football throw and

Green Sports Day bunny relay as the more traditional sprint. Parents/carers joined in the fun with a sprint race handicapped with a cone balanced on their head! WHICH EXERCISE CLASS IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Zumba, Zumba Toning, Body blast, Circuits, Dance fit the list goes on with so many different classes to choose from its important you pick the right class for you and what you’re trying to achieve.

So for improvement in muscle tone classes such as body pump, legs bums and tums, core, ab blast are always a safe option. They tend to use weights or body weight to help tone and sculpt your problem areas. These classes are good but more beneficial if you mix with some cardio as everyone has a 6 pack but if it’s under a layer of fat it can’t be seen! Cardio classes, these classes aim to improve your general fitness. By pumping the blood around the body, and placing stress on the cardiorespiratory system. They can help prevent high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, obesity, stress, and some types of cancers. So incorporating some form of this within your chosen fitness plan is a no brain brainer. Classes that incorporate this are Boogie Bounce Extreme (the new fitness craze of trampoline!) running clubs, spinning, aerobics, Zumba and other dance like classes. Low impact classes have their benefits as well as disadvantages but have probably been recommended to you after an injury, physio or ongoing joint problems. The benefits of these classes are they stop extra wear and tear on your joints whilst providing a safe and easier environment for you to work in, preventing you from aggravating injuries further. The disadvantages of these classes are you often have to work twice as long to obtain some of the benefits of a higher intensity class. Meaning if weight loss is your goal, you will need to set aside longer and more regular work outs to get results. Often these classes take a lot longer to increase muscle mass too. We know that less muscle means poorer posture, it lowers your

metabolism, weak or no muscle leads to more injuries, feeling more fatigued and response times can be affected. Relaxation or stretching classes ie; yoga, pilates, stretch and tone, Bikram yoga. These are perfect at the end of a stressful week! These classes aim to decrease stress, increase flexibility, increase muscle tone improve posture. The disadvantages of these classes are there is limited cardio improvements and although you may tone, building muscle without lifting weights is a long process. Opt for this based a more of a relaxation basis. So whichever class you choose ensure that it suits your goal. Choosing the gym yourself is another option, but beware of not pushing yourself enough, choosing only the machines you enjoy and not performing the exercises correctly. Getting a few sessions with a personal trainer is always a good way to check your form and make sure you ‘re doing the most effective work out in the shortest amount of time. Work on building 2,000 homes off Ledsham Road: Progress report

Ledsham Road Action Group keep an eye on new homes Over four years ago, in our March 2012 issue, we highlighted the upcoming opposition from local residents in the Little Sutton area to Redrow’s plans to build 2,000 houses on farmland off Ledsham Road, writes Graham Penness, of Ledsham Road Action Group. Eventually , in August 2015 , and after a Public Inquiry, the plans were approved and work began just before Christmas last year with the demolition of the WW2 Hangar. Today, the once food producing farmland has changed beyond all recognition with a row of detached houses appearing on the skyline, together with a main entrance avenue and a roundabout. Since the start of this year, local residents have endured constant noise from plant and machinery together with daily trundling of HGV’s up and down Ledsham Road. Although the battle to totally oppose the scheme in its entirety was lost, despite a 3,244 signature petition and strong support from the MP and local councillors, the Action Group continues to monitor all aspects of the development to ensure that all planning conditions are met in full. Community centre transformation A group of supported adult learners were rewarded for their creative endeavours when Justin Madders MP presented them with their end of year certificates at Wolverham Community Centre. The group have been meeting for more than three years every Thursday for art and craft sessions, led by art tutor Christine Holme and supported by the course co-ordinator Chris Brown and volunteers, Sue Smith and Marion Andrew. All the learners live in the Ellesmere Port and Neston area and are supported by Hope Farm Trust and VIVO. This summer they have transformed the pavement in front of the community centre with their colourful designs. The artwork was part of the Sustrans Community project headed by Ali Dore and has been painted using temporary environmentally friendly paints. It has proved so popular with the centre users and local residents that there are plans to make it a permanent feature.

Crackdown on fly tippers After weeks of awareness-raising a campaign to tackle fly-tipping in the Fields area of Ellesmere Port has now reached its enforcement phase. Officers from Cheshire West and Chester Council have been visiting houses door-to-door, confirming waste collection arrangements and handing out information leaflets. Signage is also in place to remind offenders that fly-tipping is a crime. Now the campaign will turn up the heat on thoughtless individuals and anyone caught fly-tipping in the area will be issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75, which if left unpaid could result in a court appearance and a fine of up to £50,000, or a 12 month prison sentence.
