PLANS IN STORE LOTS of new schemes in the pipeline could change the face of Tarporley’s centre. The much awaited Aldi store plan could now be scuppered by a rival scheme for sheltered accommodation. There are also multiple plans for houses including the Daffodil Field and Brickfield Farm which you can read about on the Parish Council page. In this edition there’s also a book release by young adventurer Alex Staniforth, updates from the Brownies and Cubs, an evening in memory of the late Richard Pover, Tarvin Tennis Club’s new pavilion, sax success for a Huxley boy, a good Ofsted for Bunbury Aldersey School and the regular features such as the what’s on guide, business directory and health and beauty.

Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Tarporley, Tattenhall, Kelsall, Tarvin &
Bunbury areas and Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends
and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Young adventurer relives double near-death Everest nightmare ALEX Staniforth is no ordinary 20-yearold…. as an endurance adventurer he has already experienced and achieved more than many will in a lifetime – attempting to climb the world’s highest mountains and scaling equally huge personal peaks in the process. In 2015, Alex was caught up in a devastating avalanche on Mount Everest, narrowly cheating death during his second expedition to reach the summit. Described by intrepid explorer Bear Grylls as ‘a man determined to make his Everest dream a reality’, Alex recognises adversity is his greatest teacher. He is no stranger to such obstacles with Epilepsy, anxiety, depression, bullying and a confidence sapping stammer plaguing his school years. An affinity for outdoor challenges and making a difference became his way to fight back. Alex’s quest for adventure remains as strong as ever and in a further exciting chapter in his life, the Kelsall explorer is about to release his first book, ‘Icefall’ – a compelling and absorbing story of a teenager on a mission to the top of the world. Alex is now an inspirational speaker and ‘moves’ audiences of all ages by helping others build resilience and overcome their own personal challenges. In 2014, his first expedition to Everest was aborted following a tragic avalanche above
base camp. But realising obstacles were merely opportunities in disguise, Alex then created the EPIC7 project, a series of ultra-endurance challenges to prepare himself further for a second attempt - becoming the first person to complete the National 3 Peaks Cycle challenge solo (440 miles cycling and climbing the three highest UK peaks in four days). In 2015 he returned to the world’s highest peak and stared death in the face when a huge earthquake struck Nepal and triggered avalanches which sadly took the lives of three of his team. Almost a year on from the tragedy, Alex relives the nightmare through his book, capturing the horror, heartbreak and his hopes for the future. So far he has raised over £34,000 for charity, climbed Mont Blanc and attempted a world record attempt on a 7,000m Himalayan peak. He is an ambassador for four organisations including The Westgrove Group and Chester Business Club. Alex wants the world to know his unique story and understand how no mountain is too high to overcome. Icefall has an RRP of £12.99 and will be available from Amazon. Alex is donating some of the proceeds to a charity helping earthquake victims in Nepal. Pictured: Alex at Everest base camp and Alex with his book, Icefall. Pic by Nadia Fortune Photography

Vicki urges healthy habits
Vicki Page with Slimming World founder Margaret Miles Bramwell
TARVIN Slimming World’s leader Vicki Page is asking people to take time out of their busy lives to think about their health and wellbeing as part of a new government campaign that says it’s never too late to make a change. Slimming World are partners in Public Health England’s new One You campaign, which aims to support adults to make simple changes towards a healthier and happier life, and provide the tools, motivational support and encouragement every step of the way. Vicki, who runs Slimming World groups in Tarvin, said: “One You is about helping adults take time out of their busy lives to think about their own health and wellbeing. As we all know at Slimming World, taking the time to pause and reflect and spend a little ‘me time’ is good for you! Because, after all, there is only one you - and it’s never too late to start making small changes. A few new healthy habits could be all it takes to live a longer, healthier and happier life.”

We would all like more space in our homes and with houses in the UK getting smaller, space is at a premium. But what if there was an affordable way to create more space in our homes? A simple solution for all those people fed up of living among clutter and one that doesn’t require planning permission or any major structural building work. For most, the loft is a dark and dingy place visited seasonally; once to dig out the Christmas decorations and then again to bring down the holiday suitcases. precarious scramble across FULLYA INSURED dusty beams, in hand; grabbing WITH OVERtorch 30 YEARS what’sEXPERIENCE needed then clambering back past boxes filled with long-forgotten belongings. Founded in Bolton over five years ago, MTLL specialises in generating space by making the loft easily accessible. And that’s all it does. It’s not a generic building company, and it’s not jack-of-all-trades. MTLL only installs loft hatches, ladders, boarding, lighting and insulation. It’s what the company does all day, every day, using qualified local installers who are reliable, tidy and efficient. The latest MTLL franchisee to open covers Crewe and Chester and is run by skilled tradesman, Adam Shepherd...“Our average job is about

TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER
An update on Tarporley’s many new developments There are quite a few developments that could have a profound effect on Tarporley which are now progressing through the planning system, namely: The Daffodil Field Planning Appeal for 28 houses inclusive of 9 affordable units has been decided in favour of the developer, Jones Homes. The Planning Inspector, appointed by Central Government, decided that the development was acceptable despite being located within the Tarporley Conservation Area and outside the settlement boundary of the village. The Inspector considered that by lowering the boundary stone wall to the High Street the field/green space would be more visible to pedestrians. Incidentally the Victorian letter box would be relocated within these changes. Community benefits could include additional 18 car parking spaces adjoining the rear of the Rising Sun car park. The net gain would be 12 spaces having deducted those spaces lost on the High Street to make way for the new entrance. However, CWaC are considering challenging the Appeal decision and are seeking to have the decision redetermined by way of a judicial review in the High Court. For more information visit the Tarporley Facebook page. Aldi /McCarthy & Stone High Street Site Aldi have yet to lodge a planning application in respect of their foodstore aspirations. In the meantime McCarthy & Stone have also shown interest in the same site and could be proposing a development of some 30 retirement apartments. There could a community benefit of some 40 car parking spaces situated at the front of the development. The field/green space at the entrance could be retained, access road excepting.
Former RBL / Allotments and Bowling Green Site. The validity of the sale transaction of the site is currently being contested. The opinion of the Charity Commissioners is awaited. No planning application has been received to date. Brickfield Farm/Rear and Adjacent of Swallow Cottage Site, 2a High Street. Jones Homes have just resubmitted their planning application for 45 houses inclusive of 14 affordable units. As it is a new application, previous comments are not taken into consideration. Planning Application No. 16/00719/FUL. More information is on the Tarporley Facebook page. Arderne Home Farm Site. A planning appeal has been lodged by the developer against the refusal by CWaC planners for residential development. Best Kept Village Tarporley will be entering the Best Kept Village competition as usual. The Parish Council are planning to enhance the appearance of the village and envisage having a red, white and blue theme to the planting along the High Street, celebrating the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Parish Council Meetings Second Monday of each month (except August) in the Committee Room of the Community Centre. Each meeting starts at 7 pm with an Open Forum, during which members of the public can address the whole Council on matters of concern to them. At 6.30 pm, prior to this meeting, the Parish Council holds a surgery where members of the public can talk to one to one with individual councillors on an informal basis.
Neighbourhood Plan Referendum After due debate and considering all the implications, the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group has recommended that the Plan, with the changes required by the Examiner, should go forward to the next step, the referendum. The Plan will be subject to a referendum in May when the residents of Tarporley will be asked to vote in favour of it or not. New Homes Bonus The New Homes Bonus was instigated in order to improve facilities for local communities/settlements that have seen the building of new houses. It was estimated that Tarporley would have receive approximately £470,000 over the next 5 years. However CWaC have withdrawn this funding from Town and Parish Councils as part of their 2016 budget proposals. This will impact villages throughout the Cheshire West and Chester area where planning applications have been approved. Over 500 signatures to the local petition were received by CWaC which is a terrific response. The Parish Council are considering our response.

Ben’s big idea brings Lego Land Rover to fruition A father and son from Kelsall have built a fantastic model Land Rover out of Lego. Terry Fisher and 10-year-old son Ben built the Series III Land Rover Defender over the summer holidays last year and put it on the Lego Ideas website. They have to get 10,000 people to register and support them on the site and then Lego will consider the Land Rover as a product for sale in the Lego Shop. Ben attends Kelsall Primary and Mr Wearing, the head teacher, has really got behind them and has been posting it all over Twitter and Facebook! They have over 4,000 supporters at the moment so still need more. You can visit the Lego Ideas website at https://ideas.lego.com/projects/116805 to find out more.

"Be the best you can be."
Together, even the smallest can achieve the greatest goal. - A Bug’s Life
The Pupils at Duddon St. Peter’s Primary School & Treetops Foundation Unit have had an ‘un-beelieveable' time. Zoo Lab visited the school and the children had the opportunity to hold all sorts of creepy crawlies including a hissing cockroach and a giant millipede. Everyone looked great on ‘bug day’ dressed up as their favourite bug and pupils enjoyed readings and discussions on various bug books including stories by Eric Carle, they designed their own zoos and learnt about the habitats of insects. All the insect activities were rounded off by a whole school visit to Chester Zoo. All the pupils, teachers and parent helpers throughly enjoyed themselves.
The children also surprised their mums on Mother’s Day with gift parcels generously donated by local beauty salon Serenity, Tar vin.

The great Brownie bake-off AS part of a fundraising initiative and as part of their Hostess badge, Tattenhall Brownies recently held a ‘Great Brownie Bake Off’, complete with homemade aprons, bunting and tablecloths! The Brownies designed it all from the décor to the entertainment as well as baking some truly magnificent cakes. They also hosted the event, ensuring that their guests were well looked after,
serving them coffee and cake all night! In true Bake-Off style, there were different categories that the cakes could be judged by and these were ‘Best Taste’, ‘Best Decorated’ and ‘Most Unique’. However, this would require the skill and expertise of some knowledgeable judges so the obvious choice was to ask ladies of the Tattenhall WI. They had the very difficult job of tasting over 30 cakes
and breads and the three judges all remarked on how impressed they were with the extremely high quality and standards of the bakes. The parents and Brownies were also honoured and fascinated to hear from Pat Reynolds, a member of the WI but also leader of Tattenhall Brownies for 25 years! Not only had she been in a Brownie herself in the 1940’s but then became a leader herself in this village.

HEALTH & BEAUTY
Wedding day worry By Angela Bartlett, owner Sensoria Beauty, Grooming & Wellbeing
Q. My son is getting married in June. What’s the quickest and cheapest beauty treatment to help me look good for the photographs? A. I always say that the ‘biggest bang you get for your buck’ in beauty is with eyebrow re-design. Well-shaped eyebrows can give the impression of a mini facelift. If you have eyebrow hairs missing then let us show you how to fill them in with a brow pencil to give a natural and attractive brow. When selecting an eyebrow pencil never choose one in artificial light as the light will affect the hue of the colour giving you unnatural looking eyebrows. Q. I feel my skin needs a ‘spring clean’ after the winter months. Which salon treatment would you suggest? A. A skin treatment that includes deep exfoliation is always a way to give a fresh, clean feel to the skin. But the choice very much depends on your skin type and lifestyle. If your skin is mature then a fruit acid based peeling element to your Skin Treatment is a good choice. For sensitive skins we use natural fruit enzymes to gently, but effectively dissolve dead skin cells without surface irritation. Microdermabrasion is a perfect choice for robust, younger skins. For more information on microdermabrasion or any skin treatments check out the treatment section at www.sensoriabeauty. co.uk 44 To advertise call 01244 350398

We spend a significant amount of time on our feet during our lifetime so it should come as no surprise that and from time to time we may develop problems which need the professional care and expert attention of a podiatrist.
Podiatry & Chiropody
Podiatry and Chiropody is the field of healthcare specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle and aspects of the lower limbs. The most common conditions affecting the foot are toe nail problems such as ingrown toe nails and fungal nail infections, verrucas, corns and callus removal. We also manage diabetic patients which includes lower limb vascular and neural assessment.
Podylas laser
Our Podylas laser is one of only 12 in the UK and provides clients with clinically proven and effective removal of fungal infection in nails, verrucas and thread veins in the lower leg, getting highly successful total recovery of ingrowing, infected and painful toe nails.
Biomechanical analysis
We specialise in biomechanical analysis with both Sarah Johnson and Joanna Fellows having successfully completed a Masters in podiatric biomechanics. A full biomechanical assessment includes a barefoot pressure analysis, video gait analysis and a biomechanical profile report with a suitable treatment plan.
Multiple Puncture/Dry needling
We can offer Multiple Puncture/Dry Needling, which provides a solution to stubborn or multiple verrucae. It requires a local anaesthetic therefore there is no pain during the procedure where the verrucae are punctured multiple times to stimulate the body’s immune system into producing antibodies to fight the virus that causes verrucae.
Podo Paediatrics
We as podiatrist treat children of all ages treating and diagnosing all foot and lower limb musculoskeletal problems including walking, running and structural anomalies or children suffering from pain in their feet or legs.
l Introducing Maria Edwards to the practice who specialises in Diabetic care, we can do vascular and neurological assessments.

TARPORLEY HIGH SCHOOL & SIXTH FORM COLLEGE
Students Recording with Chris Warburton for Radio 5 Live: Henry, Daisy, Oscar and Jess.
Students go off line and on the air PUPILS were challenged to turn off their technology and do a week-long digital detox. More than 1,000 pledged not to use social media or play computer games as part of an experiment on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Afternoon Edition programme. This meant attempting to stay off Snapchat, Facebook and their favourite games while BBC Radio 5 live recorded the results and documented their experiences. It’s thought to be the biggest ‘digital detox’ experiment ever involving young people and comes as concern about how much time school children spend gaming and on social media is growing. BBC Radio 5 live and BBC News School Report asked the pupils to record video diaries and the school are conducting a survey during the week about the young people’s experiences. Students were treated to a whole host of filming and recording opportunities with BBC Radio 5 Live broadcasting live from the school and BBC North West Tonight featuring the story. Meanwhile budding bloggers Tom, Arianne and Niamh have been documenting the action and have had their article published on the BBC website alongside many students’ video diaries from the experiment. 54 To advertise call 01244 350398
In addition to this, Technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones rang the school and spoke to Patrick, aged 15 about the project so he could feature the school on the BBC News website. Ffion Eaton, assistant headteacher, said: “So far this experiment has given us all an exciting opportunity to reflect on the role that technology plays in our lives.”

Bunbury school bounces back LESS than a year after being put in ‘Special Measures’ Bunbury Aldersey Church of England School has been judged ‘Good, with outstanding behaviour’ in its latest Ofsted report. The school has come out of special measures in record time! It is an outstanding achievement. Leaders and staff of the school are understandably delighted that their hard work and commitment have paid off so rapidly. The children of the school were praised for their ‘exemplary behaviour’ and ‘outstanding attitude to learning’. Her Majesty’s Inspector of Schools, Charles Lowry, noted that; ’Pupils are proud members of the school (who) take pride in the work they are given..…all pupils are making at least the progress expected of them in mathematics, reading and writing, with many doing even better than this.’ He also commented that the children’s attainment ‘has been consistently well above average.’ Headteacher Fiona Todd received praise for ‘uniting the school community behind her vision for improving the school, which focuses on the whole child, spiritually, morally and, socially, culturally and intellectually’. However Mrs Todd insists that it has been a team effort. She said: “The staff and the senior team have worked extremely hard to ensure that the children of Bunbury Aldersey follow a rich, varied and challenging curriculum. We have been well supported by the parents, community and our Interim Executive Board. It has been a privilege to work with such professional, knowledgeable and committed individuals and we have at all times put the needs and happiness of the children of Bunbury first. We are very proud of the school, particularly our pupils, who behave in an exemplary manner and make great progress in their learning.” Bunbury Aldersey has been working closely with St Oswald’s Worleston CE Primary during the past year, including sharing a head teacher. They are now working together more formally as’ The St Oswald’s Worleston and Bunbury Aldersey Church of England Primary Schools’ Federation’. Jason Lowe, deputy headteacher at Tarporley High School will chair the new Federated Governing Body. Both schools will retain their separate names and identities.

Big turnout in memory of Richard SEVENTY people attended a fundraising buffet night in support of the Pover family, who are setting up a university scholarship in memory of their son Richard, who died of cancer over two years ago. The Red Fox restaurant, in Tarporley, ran a special buffet night and donated a percentage of the cost per head to the charity. They also donated a prize for the raffle. Richard’s mum Anne said: “Manager Kismet Miah and his staff couldn’t have been more helpful and although there is limited choice on a buffet night, the food was excellent and everyone really enjoyed the evening. It was lovely to see so many of our friends come together to support us and a few of Richard’s friends who still live in the area were able to join us as well. Richard always enjoyed going to the Red Fox, either with us as a family or with his friends, and he would have laughed at the idea of raising money by eating curry.” Richard was a 3rd year student of mechanical engineering at the University of Sheffield when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in November 2011. Despite 19 months of extensive treatment, the 21-year-old died in June 2013 on the very day he would have left university had he been able to finish his degree. His family have been working with the university to set up a scholarship in his memory called the Richard
Pover Outstanding Contribution Award, which will be awarded annually to a student who has not only excelled academically but who has made an extra contribution to the mechanical engineering department, as Richard did. The award is given from the interest on the lump sum invested and the family is hoping to raise £30,000 so that the annual award will be £1000 at current interest rates. The family‘s aim is to make something positive out of the tragedy of losing their eldest son. The Pover family’s fundraising efforts with both the scholarship and various cancer charities were recognised recently when they were presented with the Scottish Power and Trinity Mirror ‘Champion of Champions’ award at a glittering ceremony at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Chester, hosted by Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies, who later tweeted about the family. Anyone wishing to support the family can donate at www.justgiving.com/ rememberingrichardpover Top: Richard in 2011 before he was diagnosed Left: Anne Pover with Red Fox manager Kismet Miah Below: the crowd at the Red Fox

The Keys to Positive
I
F you were to keep on living the same way, eating the same way, exercising the same way (if at all), where will your health and wellbeing be in a year from now? How about three years, from now? I urge you to ask yourself these questions. If you don’t like the idea of the answers you come up with, start by looking at the small things you can do which will improve your health in the next month and then over the next year. Now, I’m not saying that you need to become obsessive about fitness and nutrition. You can make a massive difference to the way your body looks and feels if you are prepared to stick to the fundamentals and focus on making constant, steady progress with your health habits. Now, let’s talk about some simple steps you can take to towards positive lifestyle change.
Start with sleep Good sleep lays the foundations on which all other healthy habits are built on. When you have had a good night of sleep you have more energy the next day to exercise and you will find it easier to make better nutrition choices as you are not battling low energy levels. Make an effort go to bed at the same time each night and avoid all electronic screens for at least 1 hour before you go to bed. The blue light waves emitted from electronic screens can disrupt our natural production of the sleep promoting hormone melatonin. In addition you should be sleeping in a completely darkened room. Aim to get a minimum of seven hours sleep per night. The quality of your sleep must be good in order to get the maximum benefits. Your night’s sleep should be uninterrupted and you should wake up feeling refreshed.
Focus on hydration The majority of us are chronically dehydrated, without even realising it. Simply making an effort to drink more water can make a big difference to your overall wellbeing. Good hydration is vital for detoxification, energy and concentration. As we are exposed to more toxins now than ever before in human history, good hydration levels take on an even greater importance. Build up your water intake over two to four weeks to help your body adapt to the increase in hydration levels. At the end of the four weeks you will feel noticeably healthier, more energetic and you may also find your digestion improves.
e Lifestyle Change By Daniel Jones BSc, Instinct Wellness Get Moving It’s vital to stop viewing exercise as a punishment for eating badly. Change your perspective so that you view exercise as something you do for your body. We are designed for movement, meaning exercise is one of the best things we can do for our bodies. If stress is a factor in your current lifestyle, exercise can be a potent way to alleviate it. Start with light exercise such as walking and then gradually build your way up to bodyweight strength exercises and then onto more intense exercises. Whenever possible focus on exercises that improve function and posture for maximum health benefits. Clean up your nutrition Make an effort to clean up your diet by moving away from processed foods and back towards real foods that our bodies are actually designed to eat. Don’t try to be perfect, just start by improving one meal at a time. A good place to start is by focusing on improving the nutritional quality of your breakfasts by cutting out any foods which contain sugar. Once you’ve made that change focus on increasing your daily vegetable intake.
Make the decision to start now! It’s too easy to put off making positive lifestyle changes by waiting for the “right” time. However, there will never be the perfect time to start making changes to your lifestyle. Don’t feel like you have to overhaul your entire lifestyle overnight. Choose just one habit to address at a time. Remember that living healthily is a lifestyle. I’d rather you take things slowly and stick to your lifestyle improvement plan for the long term than dive in and quit because it was too hard. Pupils at Tarporley CE Primary School have been celebrating Fairtrade fortnight by holding their own Big Breakfast and enjoying a visit from an African storyteller. The children learnt about the importance of helping farmers to get a fair price from Matthew, who works in And Albert, a Fairtrade shop in Chester, during an interesting assembly. They then got baking with Fairtrade products creating banana muffins, fruit smoothies and yummy ‘mookies’. The school raised over £100 for the Fairtrade Foundation which aims to bring more farmers into the Fairtrade system. They ended their celebration of Fairtrade fortnight with a visit from Usifu, an African storyteller.

Tanya pens debut novel AN award-winning Kelsall writer has just released her first novel. Tanya Ravenswater’s debut ‘Jacques’ has been described as a ‘moving and unique coming-of-age story about one boy’s struggle to find his place in the world’. Tanya, who is originally from Northern Ireland, started writing fiction after working as a nurse and a bereavement counsellor. She has published a collection of short stories for women, and has also been short-listed and published in the Cheshire Prize anthologies. Her children’s poem, ‘Badger’, was the winner of the 2014-15 Cheshire Prize for Literature. The novel is the story of Jacques Lafitte, a young French boy who is orphaned and torn away from everything he knows. Forced to move to England to live with his guardian - the pompous and distant Oliver - Jacques finds himself in a strange country, and a strange world. As years pass Jacques becomes part of the Clark family. But then his feelings for Oliver’s daughter Rebecca begin to surpass mere sibling affection. A development that has the power to bring them together, or tear the family apart.

Inheritance Tax could still threaten your f You may remember the Conservatives were planning to increase the Inheritance Tax (IHT) threshold to £1m if they won the General Election.
S
ubsequently, the new Coalition Government shelved it. But if you are thinking that you are unlikely to be affected by IHT, think again. More and more people are affected by IHT every year. It used to be a tax that was the preserve of the very wealthy, but escalating property values in the last ten years have put paid to that. For single people, Inheritance Tax applies at the top rate of 40% to assets worth over £325,000. This threshold is known as the nil band rate. For married couples and civil partnerships the threshold is £650,000. But the higher £650,000 limit only applies when assets are passed between spouses and civil partners and this figure reduces if any money is passed onto any of your benefactors during your lifetime. There are also other financial implications to consider, particularly if you are a widow, widower or divorcee. And with the threshold remaining unchanged by the coalition government
until at least 2015 and subject to further legislation the freeze will be extended up to and including the 2017/2018 tax year, more people could get sucked in as the minimum IHT threshold usually increases at a rate equivalent to at least inflation. Pearson Financial Management, a local Senior Partner Practice of St. James’s Place Wealth Management, is concerned that most people do not understand the implications of IHT. “It’s clear that people are confused by IHT policy and many mistakenly believe they are unlikely to be affected by it,” he said. And he is also concerned about a potentially more serious knock-on effect. “A Will* is vital in helping mitigate IHT,” said Philip. “Without a proper Will, people run the risk of their estate being severely reduced through IHT and also leaving themselves exposed to the ravages of long term care
costs later in life. It’s now more important than ever to seek professional advice and establish how you can protect your hard earned assets.” If you are uncertain about how you stand regarding IHT and would like to know more about how to prevent much of your money falling into the hands of Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs, or your Local Authority through Long Term Care fees, book your consultation today. For further information or to request your complimentary guide to Inheritance Tax please contact Pearson Financial Management of St. James’s Place Wealth Management. Pearson Financial Management can be contacted by phone on 01829 732450 or by email on ann.pearson@sjpp.co.uk. He provides honest and trustworthy advice without any sales pressure. He listens carefully, understands my requirements and has provided an excellent balance of investments. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.” Mrs J. Hallett
“I spoke to a couple of financial advisors when I retired and they focussed on the money. When I met Phil it was a nice surprise as he focussed on me. His philosophy was different in that he was genuinely interested in improving my quality of life. Phil explained everything to me in a simple easy to understand language. I took the decision to invest with him and have never regretted it. He is always easy to contact and happy to help.” Retired Superintendent, David Wilkinson

TARVIN TENN
Work underway on
T
HERE were happy faces at Tarvin Tennis Club’s AGM in March, when members heard that the work on the building of a new club pavilion was about to begin. Chairman Rob Millar gave the good news in his address and thanked particularly Felicity Pochin, secretary, men’s captain Chris Edwards and Rupert Thorp for their hard work over a long period in getting to this stage. The new facilities, together with the installation of lights, will much improve members’ enjoyment of tennis and will enable their coach, Gary, to continue offering his coaching sessions to the young players during the autumn and winter months, previously denied to him. Treasurer Allyson Clarkson gave an encouraging but cautious report on the club’s finances, and endorsed a slightly higher than inflation rise in membership fees for the coming year. The playing surface of the courts has suffered greatly over several months of poor weather and badly needs expensive maintenance work carrying out. Captains Julia Burgess and Chris Edwards gave their reports on the playing successes of the
various teams in both the winter and summer leagues, where the club still manages to field five in the winter and six in summer. There were also American tournaments arranged as well as the main Club Tournament, played over several months, for which the winners were formally presented with their trophies at the AGM by President Barry Cooper. PRAISE FOR COMMITTEE The officers of the club and other members of the committee were all reappointed to serve for 2016, although for personal reasons both Keith Barker and Phil Cundall stood down, Keith having first served on the committee in 1981, and acting as men’s captain for 28 years. Barry praised the work and commitment of all committee members and revealed that Keith was to become a trustee of the club and had been given honorary membership. Trophy presentations then followed after which members enjoyed an excellent hot buffet meal provided by the Vicar’s Cross Golf Club chef and then finished the evening by tackling a searching sporting and literary quiz.

CELEBRATING 48 YEARS OF CARING THE Bunbury Agency was started in April 1968 by its founder Leila Potter when she could not find that ‘Special Person’ to look after her own three children. In the early days she concentrated on finding nannies and housekeepers until her own mother needed a carer, so our live in care service was born. Even in the eighties, it became apparent to us that people were living longer and would therefore need more help in the home. Today our focus is totally on the elderly and the demand for daily and live in care is huge. Quite rightly, in my opinion, more and more people wish to remain living in their own homes for as long as possible. Remarkably, over half our current clients are in their 90’s and because of the fantastic support our carers give them they continue to live as independently as possible. Quite an achievement all round I think. I want to take this opportunity on this anniversary to thank all our wonderful carers who work so hard day and night providing such excellent care and support to our clients. Their role is as much valued by us as it is by our clients and I take my hat off to them for all their dedication and commitment. They so often change their plans at a moment’s notice so our clients are never alone. As a family business they are a very important part of our Bunbury family!
Our home care service
If you want to maintain your freedom of choice and the ability to live the way you wish, we can provide that essential understanding and companionship which is uniquely tailored to your needs. We understand that making decisions regarding care is very difficult and stressful. We will give you all the advice and support to enable you to continue living at home, surrounded by your memories and possessions. After 48 years of caring, we know that most people can remain living in their own homes with the right care and support. Like my mother all those years ago, we continually strives to find that ‘Special Person’ for other families who are in need of a trustworthy and reliable daily and live in carers at home.
Why not become a Bunbury Carer?
We are always looking for experienced and caring people to look after our clients, so please contact us if you are interested in joining our team.

Some of the neighbourhood plan group: Jo Mundell, Tony Greco, Ron Pulford, Lucy Munro and Andrew Thomson
Bunbury votes ‘yes’ to neighbourhood plan The Bunbury Neighbourhood Plan referendum was held on 10th March with a massive majority in favour of the Plan. 446 voted YES and 17 voted NO, on a turnout of 43.76 %. This represents a majority of 96%. The turnout was higher than the national average of 37.9% and the majority is higher the national average of 88%. The parish council and the neighbourhood thanked the people of Bunbury, for their support during the construction of the plan and at the referendum. Several councillors and members of the group went to the count on the night and the result was greeted with a noisy response. The plan will now be formally adopted by the local planning authority (Cheshire East Council) as part of their development plan and it will be ‘made’ (brought into legal force). Planning applications will still be determined by the local planning authority in the normal way but must now take into account the policies in our Neighbourhood Plan. The parish council will also use the Neighbourhood Plan policies when they are considering planning applications. The parish council will monitor the progress of the Neighbourhood Plan and how its policies are applied to planning applications. This will help to ensure that momentum is not lost, and that the aspirations of the community are met. They will also decide when to formally review the plan in order to keep it up to date and relevant.

SPRING OFFER NOW ON WE WILL PAY YOUR VAT WHEN YOU PURCHASE A RESIN PATH, PATIO OR DRIVE FROM OUR NEW EXCLUSIVE RANGE
WHY SHOULD YOU INSTALL A RESIN DRIVE? That’s simple; our product naturally drains water through the finished surface which means no more puddles. It is also resistant to frost attack, hence giving it all round better traction for tyres and making it better for walking on.
