BECOME A BUNBURY DAILY CARER Due to an increased demand for our care services, we need to recruit more daily carers. We have a reputation of providing caring and kind people who are more than just a carer but also are companions. We look after a wide range of people, some who require high level care and others who are just lonely or frail. Our experience tells us, that apart from having excellent care skills; it is essential that our carers have the correct empathy with their clients and really want to make a difference to their life.

HOW DOES OUR CARE SERVICE WORK?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BEING A SELF EMPLOYED CARER?

Here at Bunbury, we feel very strongly that our carers are as important as our clients. Looking after the elderly can be very demanding. We know that all carers are very dedicated and committed to making a difference to vulnerable people, which is why we insist on a minimum of a 1 hour house visit. This ensures they can provide the best possible service and support to our clients. Each client usually has a principal carer and a support carer. This means a good relationship can be developed not just between carer and client, but the whole family. You are paid directly by client on a weekly basis along with a generous travel allowance. We schedule all bookings a month in advance, giving you plenty of time to plan your personal commitments around your rota.

Being self-employed is more financially beneficial as you will have various running costs which can be deducted from your income. Our clients currently pay £12 per hour weekday and £15 per hour at weekends. Overnight calls start at £80. Tax is only payable after deducting your personal tax allowance and these allowable expenses. • vehicle & transport • phone, mobile & internet bills • postage, stationery • office equipment i.e. computers & printers • trade or professional journals • uniforms & protective clothing The process is not difficult and we can help you set up with the revenue. All you need to do is keep a record of all income and relevant expenditure.

What our carers say… “It took me a while to have the confidence to give up my permanent job, but I am glad I did. I now work to suit my lifestyle, and enjoy looking after the clients Bunbury provide me with. I would highly recommend anyone who passionately believes that elderly people should remain living in their own homes, to register with Bunbury.”

Planning Developments Update l Tarporley C of E Primary School has just submitted a planning application to extend the School. The present number of school places is 210 and with the additional provision this will increase to 315 pupils. It is anticipated that the extension will be complete towards Autumn 2018. l The planning application for 10 houses and 32 car parking spaces on the former Royal British Legion site is yet to be determined. The retention of the present bowling green and some 68% of the allotments also form part of the development. l Robinson Brewery’s planning application for the Rising Sun Public House refurbishment has been granted. Building work is underway and is expected to be finished by July.

Car Parking Update The Parish Council discussions with Chester West and Chester (CWaC) are continuing on this matter of considerable importance. Having conducted the consultations with the Village, it is now anticipated that CWaC are about to implement time limited parking on the High Street during the month of July. It is intended that there will be a trial period, after which minor modifications could be made. Tarporley High School has recently created an additional 33 car parking spaces within the school grounds. This should reduce the need for parking by staff and pupils on Eaton and Bowmere Roads.

TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL Newsletter

Retirement of council chairman After careful consideration Ken has decided to resign as a Councillor and Chairman of Tarporley Parish Council. Ken has been a Councillor for a period of 15 years including six years as Chairman and has given unstinting loyalty and devotion to the task; in his own words keeping the Council and Village on an even keel. His significant achievements are many and include initiating the Sports facility on Brook Road, overseeing the Neighbourhood Plan and the landscape improvements in many areas of the Village. As a Council and together with residents of the Village we wish to extend our appreciation to Ken for his considerable efforts and wish him every happiness in the future. The Parish Council have now elected Councillor Gordon Pearson as Chairman. Gordon has lived in the Village for over 24 years and has had a local business established for a period of 12 years. Gill Clough will continue in a supporting role as Vice Chair. We wish Gordon and Gill every success in the future. l Retiring chairman Ken Parker (right) hands over the reins to new chairman Gordon Pearson.

Annual Parish Meeting On Saturday 13th May, the Annual Parish Meeting took place in Tarporley Community Centre. In a change from the usual format, Tarporley Parish Council organised the event in the form of a market place and local clubs and organisations where invited to raise awareness and share information with the local community. Cheshire Police attended and provided free bike marking for local residents and other stalls included Tarporley Women’s Institute, the allotment committee, Tarporley Primary School and Tarporley Amateur Dramatics. Cheshire West and Chester Recycling team also attended and gave local residents useful tips and tricks on how to recycle more effectively and how to reduce food waste through the use of ‘left over’ recipes. A spokesperson for Tarporley Parish Council said ‘the change to the format of the annual Parish Meeting worked really well and the feedback we have received has been positive. It is great opportunity to connect with so many local clubs and groups and to showcase all the fantastic activities taking place in Tarporley’. 12 To advertise call 01244 350398

Tarvin childminder gets Ofsted praise Tarvin-based Childminder Carolyn Bodger is delighted after she was rated as “outstanding in all areas” following an Ofsted inspection. Mother of three Carolyn has run Little Explorers childminding since January 2012 from her home in Tarvin. Carolyn said: “Less than 7% of childminders achieve this standard. It took years of hard work to get going on this new venture and it has taken toughness and tenacity to deal with the highs and lows.” The 30-year-old explained that child minding has come a long way in recent years - it’s not simply glorified babysitting. She added: “It is a challenging, highly professional vocation. Childminders are expected to provide a high level of attentive, stimulating care, pre-school education along Early Years Foundations Stage (EYFS) guidelines, high standards of safeguarding and stimulate children’s mental, physical and emotional development to the same standard as private nurseries, but in a more home-like environment.” The inspector praised Carolyn for her “expert knowledge of how children learn and develop which underpins and informs all aspects of her practice.” According to the report, “the children are thriving in Carolyn’s care.”

Government sinks Tattenhall housing plans THREE housing schemes at Tattenhall have been thrown out by the Secretary of State Sajid Javid. The Government backed Cheshire West and Chester Council’s original decision to refuse permission back in 2012. The proposals were subsequently allowed by a planning inspector but Mr Javid’s intervention spells the end for Barratt’s plans for 68 homes at Brook Hall Cottages, on Chester Road, Taylor Wimpey’s application for 110 houses on land near Adari, and Ashley Wall’s hopes for 137 houses at Greenlands. The local council originally refused permission on the grounds that all three developments would have impacted on the countryside. Mr Javid’s decision letter states that there were a number of potential housing sites which were not considered by the planning inspector in the public inquiries. He said that the developments would result in “loss of open countryside and damaging effect on the landscape and rural setting of Tattenhall”.

HEALTH & BEAUTY By Angela Bartlett, owner Sensoria Beauty, Grooming & Wellbeing

Top tips for radiant skin this spring By Angela Bartlett, Owner Sensoria Beauty One of the most frequent requests from our clients is how to get a more radiant and glowing skin, so I am going to share with you my top five tips to get a dewy, radiant skin this Spring. My first tip is, if you want to get a glow and fast then ..cheat! There are a variety of products on the market that will give you an instant and radiant glow. One of our firm favourites in the Tarporley salon is Skin Perfect Primer and it’s fast becoming a favourite in our salon near Cheshire Oaks too! It’s smooth texture, slight hint of colour and powdered pearl gives an immediate glow. Pearl is known to give a luminosity to the skin and when I was examining in Beauty Therapy in the far East, I remember one of the models in Japan extolling the virtues of pearls. They are prized in that area for their ability to condition and perfect the skin, but it’s not only the fact that the small particles are light-reflective giving the appearance of perfect skin, they also act as a potent antioxidant, and contain polysaccharides, 17 amino acids, minerals and proteins to improve the condition of you skin. So new formulations of primer are going far beyond the purely aesthetic effects and are now offer amazing skin benefits too. Of course, we can’t just on a primer for skin radiancy, we need to address ways in which to put the moisture back into our skin and how we can get skin to lock in moisture for longer; so my following tips are how you can achieve this most effectively. Twiddle mitts help dementia patients KNITTED ‘twiddle mitts’ have been donated to the Beeston View Iddenshall care home, near Tarporley. The mitts are said to give comfort to dementia patients by occupying their hands. They were donated by the Chesterbased Handmade for Dementia group which was started by Sharon (Holdstock) Wallace. The group, who meet at Hoole on Mondays, have given out nearly 600 items to local residents. Sharon said: “I volunteer at the Hospice of The Good Shepherd n Chester and one day another volunteer brought a knitted item in called a Dementia Twiddle Mitt, made from an NHS Pattern. I decided to knit one, and then another and this went on until they were building up. That is when I decided to see if anyone would like to help me make these items and then donate them to local care homes, hospitals and local people living with Dementia Initially.” One of the volunteers, Angie Harding, from Tarporley, had the pleasure of giving out 60 of the mitts to Iddensall. She received this thank you from the home: “That was wonderful. One lady cried when given a mitt, one lady lifts the doll up and down in the air, and cuddled it. One man started playing with the mat straight away. They couldn’t believe they were gifts. One lady kissed my hand to thank me for the mat. Lynne, GM, gave me a big hug and said it had made her YEAR! She was almost crying. They left one of the bead toys in an ex farmers room, as he’s in hospital At the moment. They said he doesn’t talk much, but has a lovely smile, and loves to play with things that remind him of working on the farm.” Pictured: Angie Harding, Sharon (Holdstock) Wallace, Suzanne Owen, GM, and Lynne Loughlin at Beeston View. l Handmade for Dementia North West meet weekly at The Piper pub, Hoole, Chester, on Mondays, 1-3pm, to knit the Dementia Twiddle Mitts. All welcome. We have donated 575 items to local residents since May, however, I changed the name of the group to Handmade for Dementia North West & UK when Kings College London and Princess Royal Hospital requested items.

Delamere Mossland Project contender for ecology award Cheshire Wildlife Trust’s Delamere Living Landscape Project is a finalist in a national environmental and ecology awards. It was shortlisted this year’s CIEEM (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management Best Practice Awards. Between 2013 and 2017 Cheshire Wildlife Trust and the Forestry Commission restored over 250 acres of mossland habitat and began reintroducing the white-faced darter dragonfly, a species resident in the forest in years gone by. The Trust’s goal is to establish a large and interconnected population of this species by restoring connected pockets of habitat throughout the forest. The team along with many volunteers have created open corridors between the peat basins, by clearing trees and creating dams in drains and pools to retain water. “This project has become a large scale examplar of our landscape-scale approach to wetland conservation,” said Charlotte Harris, chief executive at Cheshire Wildlife Trust. “Before this restoration project many sites were not delivering the ecosystem benefits they could. Scrub-clearance, rewetting and invasive species control has improved important habitat for wildlife and already we are seeing a difference in the species recorded at the sites. It is fantastic that this project has been short-listed for a best practice award.” Species associated with healthy bogs have increased and there are now a range of nationally-rare mosses at the sites – as well as one of only five populations of bog myrtle in Cheshire. Green hairstreak butterflies have been recorded and the presence of a nationally-rare spider, Sitticus floricola, locally known as the Delamere jumping spider, has also been confirmed on two of the sites. Surveys have also revealed the presence of grass snakes and common lizards. The awards will be announced in June.

Bienvenue a Tarporley /

Now in its 33rd year, the latest Twinning event took place during May Bank Holiday weekend in Tarporley, when 18 French visitors arrived from Bohars, Brittany. Each year there is an adult Twinning in May and a youngsters Twinning in August, alternating between Tarporley and Bohars. This year’s adult French group was led by President Raymond Le Goueff and all the group were family hosted locally. The weekend of activities included a visit to Blists Hill near Ironbridge, Tarporley and Chester walking tours and hiking the Sandstone Trail culminating in a celebration dinner at Piste on Sunday night. The Twinning objectives of culture, language and friendship development for both local adults and young people have become key elements in the Tarporley and Bohars annual calendars. If you would like to be involved or help please do not hesitate to contact the Tarporley Chairman, David Dunning on 01829 781426. The Hollies is a great gift retailer! The Barn at The Hollies Farm Shop is one of the best gift retailers in the UK, and has been awarded The Best Non-Specialist Gift Retailer in the UK, in The Greats Gift Retailer Awards 2017. Ed Cowap, director of The Hollies, said: “When The Barn was called out as the winner I was shocked and super excited; what a feeling! I couldn’t (and still can’t) quite believe it! We couldn’t do it without our amazing team, our fabulous customers and our incredible suppliers; thanks to each and every one of them.” All retail winners were decided as a result of an industry-wide poll of gift suppliers, reps and agents and validation by a panel of experts.

£30,000 needed for operation to help Angel walk THE family of a girl with cerebral palsy need to raise £30,000 for a special operation which, if successful, could help her walk. Angelique (Angel) Burton, who lives in Tarporley, loves playing with her friends, animals and baking. She also loves to be independent and is determined to walk but her condition makes it impossible. Alder Hey hospital offer an operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy to help her. It is a neurosurgical technique that is used to treat spasticity in the lower limbs and involves pre and post-op physiotherapy, exercise and a threeweek stay in Alder Hey hospital. Unfortunately, it is not available on the NHS and requires a two-year commitment to regular physical activity to strengthen muscles. Mum Nichola said: “Currently Angel sleeps every night in rigid plastic splints. She is often in pain which stops her from walking. She has had numerous operations but this is different as it deals with the cause rather than the effect by cutting the over active sensory nerves. “Angel wants to walk and live her life without pain.” A swimathon and many other fund raising events have been organised, but the family hope to supplement this with donations from JustGiving. The target is £30,000, to cover the cost of the operation and the follow-up physio. To donate or for more information, please visit the Just Giving site and search for Angelique Burton

GARDENING BY JANET HEATH

FLORIFEROUS JUNE June is such a lovely month for flowers with the foliage still fresh and so many flowering perennials and shrubs to choose from. Tradescantia Andersoniana varieties are hardy perennials with white, deep pink or violet mauve iris like flowers in June. They have grass like leaves, about 50cm tall and will form a clump in moisture retentive soils. Osteospermum Cannington Roy and Whirligig are prostrate African Daisies which flower in early June (see photo) with pink or white flowers. In theory they like a well drained soil and full sun. However I have clients with heavier soils where the plants thrive and spread, forming a weed suppressing mat of low growing foliage. Or try and find Thalictrum aquilegiifolium or Meadow Rue, a tall growing perennial to about 1m, with fluffy heads of mauve or pink flowers for moisture retentive soil in sun or light shade. Shrubs for June flowers include the ever reliable Spireas. These lower growing shrubs have green, yellow or orange flushed foliage depending on the variety, with white or pink flowers in June. The variety pictured is Golden Princess with vivid magenta pink flowers on golden foliage. When they get too large, cut them back hard in winter and they will rejuvenate in spring. They do best Janet Heath Garden Mentor

in a sunny spot but are very hardy. For those with well drained soil and sun, there are many varieties of Cistus or Rock Rose ranging from small shrubs about 75cm tall to larger ones getting to 2m tall. Generally evergreen they have large flowers in white or pink but all like sunshine. Jobs to do in June include planting out of French bean seedlings, succession sowing of salad crops like radishes or lettuces and plant out leeks individually towards the end of the month to grow on for winter. You can also take softwood cutting of shrubs such as Sambucus, Fuschias and Spireas to grow on into new shrubs. If you would like to visit gardens look out for gardens open under the National Gardens Scheme where all proceeds go to charities including Marie Cure Cancer Care and Macmillan Cancer Support. Burton Village gardens on the Wirral are open on 25th June with four gardens open Briarfield, Burton Manor Walled garden, Lynwood and new for this year, Trustwood garden. Something for everyone! 150 Barrel Well Hill, Broughton, Chester is open on 24th and 25th June. Arrive at this riverside garden on the Dee by river cruiser then enjoy the terraces with sun loving plants and a lovely stream garden.

Karters return ‘home’ Tarporley Karting Team (TKT) returned to their home track at Hooton for round 6 of the National Schools Karting Association (Natska) race season. As well as the 7 standard race classes there were ‘novice sessions’ which allows new drivers to gain both valuable practice and event signatures which go towards them acquiring a race license. Fielding a strong team and winning a number of trophies this is how TKT’s drivers performed: In Class 1, which is the Cadet class for younger drivers, it was a clean sweep of the top for 4 places with Alfie Roberts coming 1st, Jake Bastable in 2nd, Joseph Booth 3rd and Sean Jerrard 4th. While in the Novice races Abbie Mills continues to show improvement. In Class 11 (Honda), for junior drivers, Dominic Roberts came 4th, Daniel Kenny was 13th and Dylan York-Lopez came in 15th. In Class 14, where junior drivers use the TKM Restricted engines, it was a TKT 1-2, with Ewan Sime finishing 1st and William Mills 2nd. In Class 7 (TKM), for senior drivers, it was a first ‘trophy finish’ for an impressive Harry Molyneaux who came 3rd, closely followed by Harvey Cole 4th, then Sam Saltmarsh who was 6th, Katie Pritchard 9th, Jon Daniels 10th and Kian ray in 15th. Dan Malyon picked up the 158kg trophy. In Class 15 (Rotax), again for senior drivers, TKT fielded 3 drivers who all finished in the top 10. It was a return to form for Tommy Taylor who came 1st, with Jake Saltmarsh in 5th and Fraser Sime 8th. At TKT we cater for children aged 8-18 throughout Cheshire and the surrounding areas who are interested in starting out in karting or who may be karting already and want to compete in the NATSKA race series. You don’t need your own kart or gear to start, the club can provide all that is required to begin kart racing! To find out more please contact Howard Malyon on 07887 626 320 or look at the TKT Facebook page.
