WORKING WITH THE BUNBURY AGENCY
As an independent and private family-run home care agency, we have now been helping families for almost 50 years. Our longevity and success is largely attributed to our invaluable team of carers who look after our clients with the dignity, respect and understanding that they deserve. We know that our live in clients benefit from their regular carers and that our daily clients want more than ‘pop in – pop out’ home visits. Our carers are the backbone to our service but being a carer can be hard work and stressful. If you join our team of wonderfully dedicated carers and companions, you can be assured we will look after you too.
BECOME A BUNBURY CARER
Have a more rewarding and fulfilling job and make a difference to someone else’s life!
Live in Care Carers usually go to 2-3 clients for a week at a time but no longer than a fortnight. Each client has 3-4 carers ensuring that you can schedule your availability around your daily life, giving you time for family, appointments and holidays. Your wage reflects the level of care required and additional support is provided to ensure your have regular breaks. We are always very conscious that our carers should not be overworked and become too tired.
Live in care wages start at £600 per week Weekend care starts at £100 per 24 hours Daily Care wages are: £12 per hour weekdays £15 per hour at weekends
Daily Care Most clients need help in the morning and evening, but some require extra visits during the day or an overnight. There is a minimum call of 1 hour as it is important not to rush. We want you to give your client the best of your skills and have time for a chit chat over a cup of tea. You might share your client list with another carer, but unless there is an emergency you will always be booked with your regular clients enabling you to maintain the relationship with them.
Overnight care starts at £80 per night Travel allowance is paid at 45p per mile.
If you would like to discuss the many care options available, or join our team of carers, please contact us on 01829 260280.

TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL Newsletter Considerate Parking We know how difficult it is to find a parking space in Tarporley, however please note the following reminders about responsible parking: ‘H’ bars (white kerb side road markings, like an H with an elonagted cross-bar) These markings are put in place to maintain vehicular or pedestrian access to a property or right of way. Please do not be tempted to park on them. Parking on Pavements Pavements are intended for pedestrians so, before parking with two (or even all wheels) on the pavement, consider whether you will be causing an obstruction to a blind person (perhaps with a guide dog), wheelchair user, or someone with a pram or pushchair. Causing an obstruction to the pavement can lead to a fixed penalty notice.
Tarporley Community Centre Car Park 3-hour parking restrictions came into force at Tarporley Community Centre’s car park on Monday 30th January. Drivers will be entitled to park for 3 hours, with no return within one hour. The rules will be enforced Monday to Sunday, from 8 am to 6 pm. The new restrictions have led to a better turnover of vehicles meaning that visitors are now able to find a parking space more easily. We hope that this will be a benefit to local businesses that have been suffering from a decline in custom as a result of Tarporley’s parking problems. Meanwhile the Parish Council is working on a range of initiatives to try to improve parking capacity in the village.
NatWest Bank Closure NatWest has confirmed it will shut the doors on its High Street branch in Tarporley on 6th June as part of a raft of closures across the country, brought about because more and more customers now manage their finances online. This will leave customers with a nine mile journey to the nearest branch which is impossible for some residents in the village. The Parish Council has been lobbying the NatWest to reconsider the closure, has met with our local MP, Antoinette Sandbach, to discuss the matter, and has been actively promoting and collecting signatures for a the petition against the closure. If you want to help to try to make the bank change its mind please sign the petition, go to http://www. ipetitions.com/petition/dont-close-natwest-in-tarporley. Dog Fouling Winter months seem to lead to an increase in the amount of dog poo left on pavements around the village. Perhaps it’s the poor weather or dark mornings/evenings that lead to people being tempted not to clean up after their pets. Whatever the reason, if you are a dog owner please ensure that you do not leave your pet’s mess behind. It’s simply anti-social and invariably ends up being trodden in by children who could risk contracting toxocariasis (which can lead to blindness) from it. Due to the recent increase in fouling, the Parish Council has contacted the Dog Warden at Cheshire West and Chester Council and spot checks will be taking place over the coming weeks. Please remember that it is illegal to not clear up after your dog and can result in a fine. 12 To advertise call 01244 350398

Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving
people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Tarporley, Tattenhall, Kelsall, Tarvin &
Bunbury areas and Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends
and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Police investigate alleged fox hunt in Beeston Cheshire Police are investigating after reports of fox hunt in Beeston made national headlines. Hunt saboteurs posted disturbing on line footage of a vixen being savaged by a pack of hounds. The video appears to show the hounds tearing up the fox despite the saboteurs attempting to shoo them away. The anti-hunt group said in a statement: “The poor vixen stood no chance of escape in such deep water surrounded by a pack of bloodthirsty hounds tearing at her dainty body,’ a statement from the group read. ‘We tried our utmost best to save her but it was too late.” The video made its way into national newspapers with the video being viewed many times on Facebook and on the newspapers’ websites. Fox hunting was banned in 2004 but it is a law that has proved very difficult to enforce. Cheshire police said: “Police are continuing their investigation into allegations of an illegal hunt in Beeston. “We take these allegations seriously and we appeal to anyone who either witnessed the hunt, or has original footage of the hunt in Beeston on Saturday 4th February to contact police. “We do take rural crime seriously. If an illegal hunt was found to have taken place we would prepare a file for CPS to consider any relevant criminal charges.”

There’s nothing like getting out in the garden in March and April, digging over the soil and getting everything ready for a summer of bloom and fragrance. It’s also a great time to revamp your beds and borders casting a critical eye over everything, finding gaps and perhaps shifting out those plants that aren’t pulling their weight anymore. There’s nowhere better to find something new, unusual and exciting to fill those gaps or perk up a dull corner than a Plant Hunters’ Fair. The mix of nurseries

ensures there’s something for every type of garden; little gems to tempt the most discerning plants person and lots of help and advice for the new or less experienced gardener. The new season kicks off at Dearnford Lake near Whitchurch on Sunday 19th March with a great line up of nurseries from around the country. Entry to the fair and lakeside walks is completely free. Plant Hunters’ Fairs will then be at Ness Botanic Gardens on Sunday 26th March with £1 for the fair, and at Battlefield 1403 near Shrewsbury on Saturday 1st April with free entry to the fair. A first for 2017 will be a plant fair on Good Friday. Easter is a great time for getting down to some gardening and those purchases can go straight into the garden! and this year Whittington Castle is the place to go to get ahead of the pack. The fair and castle grounds are free to enter (£1.00 to park on site). The Plant Hunters’ Fair on Easter Sunday and Monday at Dorothy Clive Garden, (south of Bridgmere on the A51) is now a “must” with garden lovers. Entry to the fair and beautiful 12 acre gardens is better than half standard price at just £3.50 (normally £7.50) Other Plant Hunters’ Fairs not to missed are at Sugnall Walled Garden (ST21 6NF) on Saturday 22nd April (£1 for fair and garden), Consall Hall, Wetley Rocks (ST9 0AG) on Sunday 23rd April. At Norton Priory (WA7 1BD) on Saturday 29th April with free entry to fair. Weston Park (TF11 8LE) on Mayday Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday with a special low entry price of £3.00 which includes the gardens, parkland and bluebell woods as well as the plant fair. You can find full details of these and other fairs by visiting www.planthuntersfairs.co.uk www.tarporleytalk.com

Students visit Berlin Wall A group of 52 GCSE and A-level students from Tarporley High School visited Berlin to experience the city and its culture in order to gain valuable knowledge that will complement their studies in German and History. The trip was hugely successful and included trips to iconic landmarks such as the Berlin Wall, Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, Olympic Stadium, TV Tower and Checkpoint Charlie, as well as insightful visits to the DDR and Stasi Museums.

HEALTH & BEAUTY
How to combat the signs of ageing By Angela Bartlett, owner Sensoria Beauty, Grooming & Wellbeing
Q. What is ‘inflammaging’? A. This term was used almost a decade ago by an Italian doctor. It describes the ageing phenomenon caused by persistent inflammation in the skin. Visible signs of inflammation can include redness or irritation, however inflammation can be invisible too. After prolonged inflammation the skin starts to age at a more rapid rate resulting in collagen and elastin degradation causing lines, wrinkles and loosening of the tissues amongst other signs of skin ageing. Ask your Beauty Therapist about how you can combat inflammaging and visit the blog section of www.sensoriabeauty.co.uk to find out more. Q. I would like a career in Beauty Therapy, how do I become qualified? A. There are lots of routes into Beauty Therapy from a “one day” to a two year full time college course, and everything in between because unfortunately the industry is unregulated. During the two years that I was Chairman for BABTAC (British Association of Beauty Therapy & Cosmetology), I fought very hard for the industry to become regulated looking to deliver high standards as mandatory basics. It is an ongoing process that hopefully will be realised in my lifetime. Another, and very good route into a career in beauty is through an apprenticeship which is available at Sensoria and in many other beauty salons. Contact beauty salons though their ‘careers’ section on their websites.

Holocaust remembrance Holocaust survivor Lady Milena GrenfellBaines spoke to Year 9 pupils at Tarporley High School about how she escaped the Nazis in World War Two. The pupils were taking part in Holocaust Remembrance Day, giving them the chance to reflect upon the victims and the impact it has on the world today. The enrichment day allowed students to take control of their own enquiry into the Holocaust. These involved a variety of topics, such as: the lives of victims, to people who formed resistance and the companies we recognise today that did business with the Nazis. Lady Milena spoke about the Kindertransport rescue effort and answered students’ questions. 46 To advertise call 01244 350398

Lets talk about ISA’s…… This April we see the biggest single annual increase to an ISA since they were introduced in their former guise of PEPs by Nigel Lawson in 1986. Back then the annual allowance was £6000 which has steadily increased in subsequent years to the current level of £15240. From 6th April 2017 the annual limit will increase to £20,000 so why should you use this allowance if you possibly can? Given the interest rates on Cash ISA’s which currently average just 0.73% for an instant access account, you could be forgiven for thinking that savers have given up on cash ISA’s. However over £270 billion of ISA funds is still held in cash (source Money Facts November 2016). I’m the first to acknowledge that the alternatives to cash i.e. stocks and shares ISA’s will not be for everyone, however those savers who are comfortable with investment risk, and have regularly utilised their annual ISA allowances since they were introduced are now looking at tax free gains, both in terms of capital gains tax and income tax. I’m also realistic enough to know that whilst there are indeed some “ISA Millionaires” out there, most of us cannot fully fund the annual allowances year on year. However, I would encourage you to consider where, how and why you save, and whether your arrangements are still suitable. So, while we’re talking about ISA, what else should you be thinking about? Many of my clients are keen to save for their children or grandchildren, and an excellent way of doing this is through a Junior ISA. The annual limits are lower, £4080 from 6th April 2017 and contributions can be made either by monthly contributions or of course lump sums. Parents of children who qualified for, and have savings in the Children Trust Fund i.e. those born between 1st September 2002 and 2nd January 2011 can also transfer these funds to a Junior ISA without impacting on the annual ISA allowance. For those of you looking to reduce a potential inheritance tax liability, saving from surplus income
to a child’s Junior ISA will not impact upon the annual gifting allowance of £3000 per annum making this an extremely efficient way of gifting. From April 2017 the government have announced a new initiative, the Lifetime ISA. This will allow savers from the age of 18 – 40 to contribute either to a cash or stocks and shares ISA, up to £4000 per annum, and qualify for a bonus of 25%. However, there are restrictions on this account so it will be really important to take advice and fully understand whether the Lifetime ISA will be appropriate for your needs or not. All in all, if you are one of the savers contributing to the £270 billion in cash ISA’s, have a stocks and shares ISA which has not been looked at for a long time, have a child or grandchild who you would like to help provide a more financially secure future, or simply want build up some capital for yourself to buy a house or to support your retirement, lets talk about ISA’s.

The value of an investment with St. James’s Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds selected and may fall as well as rise. You may get back less than the amount invested. An investment in a Stocks and Shares ISA will not provide the security of capital associated with a Cash ISA. The favourable tax treatment given to ISAs may not be maintained in the future as they are subject to changes in legislation.

TARPORLEY HIGH SCHOOL & SIX
When Oz came to Tarporley The Technicolor splendour of The Wizard of Oz came to Tarporley High School as a cast of over 100 students, musicians and stage and technical crew pulled together to perform a magical show. Rehearsals began back last academic year meaning the cast were incredibly polished and professional in their performances. Such was the high standard of talent witnessed across the evenings, that audiences commented it was like being on Broadway or in the West End! Headteacher Sarah Lee said: “This year’s show was enormously inspiring. It was a delight to see our students flourish and to be part of what was a huge team effort. “I would like to extend my thanks to all the cast, crew and teachers for their commitment and dedication in bringing this magical show to life.”

Sixth formers hit all the right notes Some of Sir John Deane’s Sixth Form College’s most talented musicians lit up the stage during a spectacular evening of Jazz and Soul in Tarporley. The concert, which is one of the highlights of the Sixth Form College’s musical calendar, was staged at Macdonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa to a packed audience. The 30-strong jazz collective, directed by Timothy Murphy, treated audience members to favourites such as Get Happy by Ella Fitzgerald, Jazz Police by Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band and Bring it on Home by Sam Cooke. Alison Richards, Head of Performing Arts at Sir John Deane’s, said: “Once again, the students delivered an outstanding performance and audience members were simply blown away by the exceptional talent of our vocalists and instrumentalists.” Pictured: Vocalist: Zara Okoro; Trumpet: Daniel Barford and Clarinet: Mia Dalton
