Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile!

It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Managing Director Alan Ball feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving

people money, although that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Tarporley, Tattenhall, Kelsall, Tarvin &

Bunbury areas and Alan is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends

and family of people I’ve done work for, which just goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Alan a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

TARPORLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER British Legion

Outdoor Sports & Recreation

Representatives of the Bowling Club, Allotments and Primary School were invited to attend an informal meeting, prior to the July Parish Council meeting, to discuss the possible plans associated with the British Legion site.

Thanks to all who came to the Parish Council stand at the Carnival and viewed the proposed plans for the Brook Road and Community Centre fields. The overall feedback was very positive for the options proposed and this feedback was reviewed at a follow up meeting involving members of the outdoor Sports & Recreation Committee.

Thanks to all for the many comments received and we hope that we all left with a better understanding of the situation and each organisation’s aspirations. Given the many challenges ahead for this site and the demands on the space, creative solutions may have to be sought so that valuable amenities are not lost to the village. Outstanding Large Planning Applications – Monthly Update At the time of writing – early August - the application for the Daffodil Field (28 dwellings) is to go to an appeal by written application; Ardenne Home Farm (45 houses) has been rejected by our local Planning Officers; the current planning application has been withdrawn for Brickyards Farm (48 dwellings) and the public inquiry for land off Rode Street (100 dwellings) has been adjourned until later this year.

One of the challenges would appear land drainage at one or both sites and so a detailed budget is to be prepared to scope out what can and needs to be done. However, it is clear that some significant sponsorship will be required to bridge the gap between developer’s contributions (via S106 funds) and what is needed to make the proposed plans a reality.

Tarporley Footpaths A very detailed assessment of the local footpaths around the Parish has been prepared, including the new ones after the recent extension of the parish boundary. This has considered their condition, ease of use and accessibility and a number of actions have been identified which we plan to work on over the coming months. After all this work, it would be good to make these footpath routes visible and easy to use for everyone. It has been suggested to produce a ‘’photo map’’ or something similar showing pictures along the route along with directions which could be down loaded from the website for example. If you feel that you can help map a route, routes or work on such a project, please contact the Parish Clerk tel: 01948 861035) or mail clerk@tarporley.org.uk as we are always pleased to receive help and support. Have you seen the new footpath along the northern boundary of the Community Centre field? It now means that in wet weather you can walk from the Eaton Road end of Tarporley to the High Street without walking across the entrance to the Spar.

Sixth formers get a good send off The Sixth Form Leavers Prom was an outstanding success this year. Held at Peckforton Castle, the Sixth Form College sent their Year 13s off in style. At the end of a very busy exam season, the hard working students were finally able to let off some steam; following a meal and a presentation of awards, they danced into the night. This has been an outstanding group of students who have worked extremely hard and enthusiastically throughout their time in Sixth Form.

So what can we do for you? What our clients say…. Just knowing that I will have the same carers exactly when I need them is a great comfort. My mobility is not as good and I am frightened of falling. My ladies help me in the morning and evening, take me to appointments, tidy up and help me with the shopping. Not only are they kind and reliable, but I feel I have some independence back, which has made a big difference to my life.

Whether you need daily care support, respite care to provide a loved one a much needed rest, or continuous live-in home care, we know we can help. Being able to remain living in your own home in familiar surroundings with all your memories; continue sleeping in your own bed; choose your own menu; sit in your own garden; keep your pets and have your friends and relatives to visit whenever you like; we know is the best scenario.

My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s. She had a very active life before she became ill but cannot manage very much on her own now. Bunbury Carers have been invaluable and I am sure that without their support mother would have had to go into a home a long time ago. I certainly couldn’t manage without them.

Our Aims l To work alongside you and your family ensuring that you have the tailor made level of care you require. l To ensure that your normal routine is maintained. l To ensure that the Carers who look after you give you the greatest of care, respect and understanding. l To provide a rota of Carers that you look forward to seeing on a regular basis, building a trusting and friendly relationship and giving you and your family peace of mind and assurance.

We look forward to hearing from you soon. Sarah Green – Director Campaigning to help people remain living in their own homes

Look up....

and use all the space in your home We would all like more space in our homes and with houses in the UK getting smaller, space is at a premium. But what if there was an affordable way to create more space in our homes? A simple solution for all those people fed up of living among clutter and one that doesn’t require planning permission or any major structural building work. For most, the loft is a dark and dingy place visited seasonally; once to dig out the Christmas decorations and then again to bring down the holiday suitcases. A precarious scramble across dusty beams, torch in hand; grabbing what’s needed then clambering back past boxes filled with long-forgotten belongings. But that dark and dingy place is worth thousands. In fact, it takes up a third of

the floor space in an average home. So shouldn’t you be making the most of it? And that’s where More Than Loft Ladders (MTLL) comes in. Founded in Bolton over five years ago, MTLL specialises in generating space by making the loft easily accessible. And that’s all it does. It’s not a generic building company, and it’s not jack-of-all-trades. MTLL only installs loft hatches, ladders, boarding, lighting and insulation. It’s what the company does all day, every day, using qualified local installers who are reliable, tidy and efficient. The latest MTLL franchisee to open covers Crewe and Chester and is run by skilled tradesman, Adam Shepherd...“Our average job is about

Here’s a great way to make more storage space...

£290 and only takes a few hours to complete,” says Adam. “And for that, customers get a modern two section aluminium ladder 50sq ft of boarding and a light to make the space safe and secure.” The price customers are quoted is the price they will pay, with no additional call out or credit card charges. “More Than Loft Ladders is already a trusted name in the north west with over 2,500 successful installations, and I really wanted to bring it here to Cheshire...It’s such a great and cost effective way for people to gain the extra space they need,” added Adam. For a free survey and quotation with no obligation, contact More Than Loft Ladders now!

health & beauty with Angela Bartlett

face mapping By Angela Bartlett, owner Sensoria Beauty, Grooming & Wellbeing

Q. I often hear about ‘Face Mapping’. What exactly is it? A. This is an in-depth skin analysis by a trained and qualified Dermalogica Therapist allowing them to read your skin’s condition and recommend a system to address your concerns. The ‘Mapping’ involves a ‘zone by zone’ analysis based on the skill of the Therapist combined with the proven results of Chinese Face Diagnosis. Your skin is constantly changing due to a variety of internal and external factors such as hormones and climatic changes, so the care your skin needs also changes so a regular Face Mapping allows you to get the best results from your products. Q. Why do I need to use a separate skin care product on my lips? A. Unlike the rest of your face your lips has no protective epidermal layer. This means that the lips are very vulnerable to environmental damage from factors such as sun and wind. A vitamin-rich lip product applied at night helps to keep lips soft and supple, and lip balm with a sunscreen helps to prevent UV light during the day.

There’s been an awful lot in the summer budget to get our heads around, much of which will require further clarification as time goes on and various white papers are discussed, dissected and passed through Parliament. On balance though, I decided not to write about the budget this month, but to tell you about a couple of things which I’ve become involved with over the past few weeks. Over the years I’ve provided advice to, shall we say, my more mature clients about the best way to take retirement benefits, effective inheritance tax planning, estate protection and of course long term care planning. More often than not, if I’m asked to visit a family regarding long term care planning, it’s because a much loved parent can no longer care for themselves, or an elderly spouse can no longer care for the other person because they are suffering from Dementia. I rarely meet the dementia sufferer, who at this point has invariably lost capacity in any event, and so of course I rely on a Power of Attorney being in place. Although its mainly the families of the dementia sufferer that I meet and assist, I very much felt that I needed a better understanding of what exactly Dementia is, and how it affects the person with the condition so, a couple of weeks ago, I visited a local Care Home where a workshop was being given by a group called “The Purple Angel Dementia Awareness Campaign”. To be perfectly honest, I was fully prepared to be completely depressed for a morning, but what a revelation those three hours turned out to be. Firstly, although the majority of diagnosis will be on elderly people, it’s certainly not an age related disease, as the first person ever to be diagnosed was only 52 years old and the youngest person to be diagnosed was only 27. Me and my other attendees were asked to jot down in a large circle everything we had done the day before, and panic set in when I actually couldn’t for the life of me remember where I had been the previous day, which I’ve now put down to always multi tasking and running around at a hundred miles an hour, rather than needing to book my room now!

We were then asked to jot down in a smaller outer circle our emotions and feelings about what we had done. With a dementia sufferer these circles are reversed, in other words the emotions and feelings take up more and more space, and the actual physical tasks less and less, which can be very confusing and not a little frightening. So why am I sharing this with you? A number of reasons really; if you have someone in your family who suffers from the dementia syndrome, which takes the form of many different illnesses, perhaps the most commonly known being Alzheimer’s, understanding the illness more can make it much easier to deal with, and knowing that there are organisations out there to help is a good starting point. Secondly, the importance of fixing the roof before it rains cannot be overemphasised, particularly in terms of financial planning. As an industry, Financial Services are waking up to the fact that we need to be much more innovative in the products and solutions available to put effective financial plans in place, not just at the time care is needed, but if its needed in the future. Ensuring that a Lasting Power of Attorney is in place, as well as a valid will are also key requirements and really should be implemented with specialist advice. If you or you family are effected by these issues, and would like to chat through how we can help from a financial planning point of view, please do call us on 01948 840738 to arrange an appointment, without obligation. We look forward to hearing from you. Please note that advice given in relation to a Power of Attorney will involve the referral to a service that is separate and distinct to those offered by St. James's Place.

The school was among 30 to have been shortlisted for specific journalistic commendations – from best artwork and photography to best feature article. Matty Davies and Annabelle Moss, left the Awards Ceremony with fantastic accolades from some senior Broadsheet journalists. Matty was ‘Highly Commended’ for his artwork and photography. He and Annabelle Moss were named as ‘Young Journalists Showing Exceptional Promise.’

Matty had written a humorous piece entitled ‘Procrastination My Struggle’ and Annabelle had written an acerbic piece on ‘Page 3’ and its place in a post-feminist, 21st Century society. Mrs McMillan said: “I was so proud to see our team of journalists’ hard work and enthusiasm recognised in this prestigious way. What a great addition to their personal statements and University appliactions.” Annabelle Moss and Matty Davies. Top: the group who attended the ceremony without Olivia Gregory

FOOTBALL TALK...

TARPORLEY VICS FC

The new season begins with a baptism of fire Tarporley Vic’s returned to Footballing action on 8th August when they travelled to pre-season favorites Wythenshawe Town FC. Wythenshawe won all 39 games that they played last season, and the ambitious SouthManchester side beat Tarporley 5-0 in this season’s opener! As a footnote to this result Wythensahwe then beat Penlake 11 – 0 on the following Saturday. The second fixture versus Daten FC resulted in a 2 – 0 Vics win, with Dan Ball & Joe Marley scoring the goals. l The First Team will be managed by Andy Williams and Sean Taylor this season, with Mike Brereton stepping aside to fulfill the First Team’s coaching position. As the Club continues to develop it is essential that the back-room team grows with it. These changes will ensure this progression and will also allow further growth should any more coaches or administrators become available to the Club. The Cheshire League fixture’s Secretary has been “kind” to Tarporley Vics 1st Team and the published away games up to September 12th should ensure there are no fixture clashes with the Tattenhall Cricketers. The Flacca at Tattenhall will continue to host Tarporley Vic’s

games for the foreseeable future, and whilst progress is being made with the plans for the Brook Road site Tarporley Vics anticipate it will be at least two seasons before a League game will be played in Tarporley. Sat 5th September, 3pm at Penlake. Sat 12th September, 3pm, at Altincham Reserves. l The Reserves Season will start on 5th September with an Away trip to Winnington. This Season the Reserves will be managed by Matt Williams and Colin Watson and the Crewe FA Combined League has now grown to 10 Teams, therefore ensuring a more competitive season of fixtures. l The appeal for sponsorship has been fruitful, and October’s Tarporley Talk report will include photos of both the First Team and Reserves in their new kits – more to follow on this exiting development l Please contact Mike, Andy, Sean, Clive, Adam or Matt or any other Tarporley Vics members for any other Tarporley Vics info. We are always looking for help, new players and sponsorship therefore any support is appreciated (Mike can be contacted on 07793905269)

For further information on matches, training or sponsorship opportunities please view our website tarporleyvics.co.uk. Email us at tarporleyvics@gmail.com. An inspired choice As a new luxury retirement village in Tattenhall starts to take shape, James Cobb, Sales Director at Inspired Villages, gives an insight into the facilities on offer and what makes it different to other retirement homes: Inspired Villages in Tattenhall has been labelled as a new approach to retirement – why is that? Retirement can sometimes conjure up images of a rather boring existence with many retirement homes considered to be a bit bland. Inspired Villages has been designed to completely change those negative perceptions, with luxurious one and twobedroom homes on offer, surrounded by landscaped grounds within an idyllic village environment. What types of amenities will be available? We’re aiming to create a genuine community at Inspired Villages, so that means providing a broad range of amenities that make residents’ lives easier and more fulfilling. In Tattenhall, these include shops, a restaurant, library, café, and hair and beauty salon.

Are there any other facilities on offer? We believe retirement should be a time for new beginnings, so we’re also creating opportunities for residents to try new hobbies, keep fit and improve their wellbeing. From the large spa and relaxation pool through to the modern gym and bowling green, there are facilities to suit everyone as well as social activities and clubs. Residents can also benefit from an array of hotel-style services with a maid, concierge, laundry service and onsite handyman all available. Will the village also provide care services? The presence of the OnSite Village care team is an essential, integral and permanent feature of an Inspired Village. The Village care team is there not just to deliver care when requested or required for

residents of the apartments, but also to provide comfort to residents that help is available in the event of an emergency, accident or illness; or should their health deteriorate and their needs change accordingly. When can people move in? We expect the first 48 apartments to be ready by summer 2016. Inspired Villages in Tattenhall provides three types of accommodation to meet the different lifestyle requirements of residents. Prices for a two-bed apartment in phase one range from £365,000 to £557,000. Anyone interested in living at the new Inspired Villages development can contact the sales team on 0800 032 7923 or visit www.inspiredvillages.co.uk.

School earns place on the podium The staff, pupils and parents at Tarporley Primary School were delighted that to be featured in the inaugural Cheshire School Awards in July. They earned a place in the final three in the category: Excell Ltd Primary School of the Year. The finalists were Tarporley C of E Primary School; St Werburgh’s and St Columba’s Primary School; Leighton Academy. Head teacher Kerry Forrester said, “We had a lovely time at the awards ceremony. We enjoyed a delicious lunch and although we didn’t win, we are delighted to have been nominated as one of the top three Primary Schools in Cheshire. The children who attended were a credit to our school and proved that we are indeed winners in so many ways.”

Bookworms win national award The Reception class at Tarporley CE Primary School are celebrating the end of a phenomenal year which culminated in them winning two national book awards. ‘Up, Up, Up’, a picture book created by the 4 and 5 year olds in Tarporley, has been chosen from 1,500 entries nationwide in the 2015 ReadingZone WBD Picture Book Competition. The first category they won was the Picture Book Competition Young Creators Award and then their creation was chosen as the Overall Winner. Head teacher Kerry Forrester said: “The children have created a wonderfully

informative picture book that is a delight to read. This project was very much led by our fantastic reception class TA, Mrs Palmer, who also had to submit a photobook of the children completing the work. This took a lot of time and dedication. To win the competition beating 1,500 other entries is just superb.” Tarporley Primary School will win a free author visit as part of their prize, as well as 50 printed copies of their winning picture book and a set of ten picture books for their library.
