hear & queer STORIES OF TASMANIAN YOUTH
Working It Out & Edge Radio I don't know how I d id it but I picked a name from a book off the shelf and I never looked back. How did I personally know? Because when people started calling me Sir, I smiled. When I put on a binder for the first time and saw my chest flat, I finally felt comfortable in my own body. And after all these years, I can't really imagine myself as a girl anymore...
The biggest thing I get is people telling me I can't be a lesbian be cause I don't look like one. And that's because I have quite long hair and I dress quite femininely. But how you look has nothing to do with your sexual orientation at all. That's just based on stereotypes.
I remember when I first came out to my parents. It was like 9 o'clock and I was already in bed, and I got up thinking, 'I'm going to have to tell them. I'm going to have to tell them I like men.'Um... and I did. My parents were watching TV in the lounge room and I was like, 'Mum and Dad, I'm gay.' And they were like, 'OK, we already knew. Go back to bed. We've seen your internet history.'
