WORLD YOUTH SKILLS DAY July 15 is World Youth Skills Day. A day dedicated to raise awareness about the importance of youth skills development. The issue of youth unemployment is a major concern for all societies. By encouraging youth skills development, the issue of unemployment can be tackled and reduced drastically. This year is challenging for youth due to COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown measures that have led to the worldwide closure of technical and vocational training institutions. Importance of Digital Skills in our new world Current pandemic has helped us to understand the importance of digital skills. While we all were pushed to our home, for our safety, we embraced a new way of leading life.
Bikramjit Pal Deputy Lead Strategy, Architecture and Innovation
In each aspect of our life, we used a new digital medium to address our concerns and requirements. I will give two examples below from our daily life to focus on why each one of us needs to have these digital skills. If we consider training and skill development, we all were very used to classroom based training programs. To address the challenge, which the current pandemic has thrown to us, we had to shift to an online learning mechanism using the internet and digital devices. It was a learning curve for both students and teachers on how to use digital devices and digital contents. Digital payment is a critical program of Government of India where it urges all customer touchpoints to have digital payment infrastructure. Digital payments are on rise since the process has become easy for people to do digital transactions with options like UPI, Prepaid cards, Digital Wallets etc.
50% of India’s population is below the age of 25 years.
Some of the basic digital skills are – • Operating the digital device, specially using a browser and connecting to the internet. • Search data and information in internet • Protecting personal data, specially confidential data, from computer viruses • Knowing how to safeguard the password and accounts. • Communicate with others using electronic mailing (email) and chat features • Solve the common issues specially connection issues • Setting up e-payment methods for transactions • Compliant with online legal terms in social media platforms India is a young country in this world where the majority of the people are in the working age group (18-55 years). Urging you all to learn and empower yourself with these digital skills for jobs and inclusion in the society. The above article is the personal opinion of the author. Not endorsed by Tata STRIVE

My story Disability is a Matter of Perception Kiran kamble belongs to Pune & resides in Dapodi. He completed his 12th from Swami Vivekanand DP Patil commerce college. His father is working as a helper in DCP Contractor company and mother is a housewife. His sister is suffering from mental illness. Kiran wishes to get her treatment in good hospital. Kiran is very dedicated and sincere. Before joining Tata STRIVE also Kiran was interested in retail course and had good knowledge about retail industry. He wanted to make his career in retail industry. He learnt about Tata STRIVE from Call centre. He made an enquiry to know further about the course. Upon counselling at Pune centre he joined the course. Name: Kiran Kamble Age (In Years): 24 Tata STRIVE Course: Retail Blended Batch Batch Name: Blended RSA_0003 Company Name: Tata STAR Bazar Designation: Associate
He joined Retail Blended Batch where he was getting knowledge on the virtual platform. It was a new experience for him. Kiran maintained 90% attendance during the entire session. He scored well in all formative assessments. Whenever he used to have any doubts, he asked questions and cleared his doubts during the training program Kiran was selected by TATA STAR Bazar on very next day of his final assessment. He says, “I was so excited with the opportunity. When I went for the interview, Employer asked me to sit back for very long time. I was really scared as I didn’t understand what was happening. But, after completing interviews for all the other candidates, they asked every selected candidate to come for joining process after a few days but they completed my joining process on that day itself”. I’m so thankful for the guidance from Tata STRIVE now that I have got a direction of my liking for my career development.” His parents also called us. They say, “Thanks to Tata as they have changed Kiran’s life.” Kiran has completed his OJT from TATA Croma. After his OJT Completion, store manager called the facilitator to ask if they can take Kiran for one more week.

Pick of the month It is always the best opportunity to interact with one of the most important stockholders of the learning ecosystem i.e. Parents of our learners. To know their expectations, share our expectations is an inseparable process of our batch cycle. On this note, here are a few small pieces of our conversation with parents of Blended Cyber Security 00004 Batch.
Dr. Ramesh Patil (Father of Paras Patil) – My son Paras is so much interested in the Cyber Security Field, he has published one research paper also in the field and I am glad that I am helping him in it. I know cyber security is one of the most trending things and when he told me that he wants to do this training from Tata STRIVE, I was so glad the Tata STRIVE is providing such a great opportunity to our wards.
CH. Ramanujam (Srinivasn’s Uncle): I am a retired person. We live on pension and we have high expectations from Srinivasan. And I would like to thank Tata STRIVE from the depth of my heart for providing such a wonderful training to our wards and that too free of cost. We always hear about Tata Sons' good cause and social works and we are so grateful for this one too.
Mangesh Rajput (Sagar’s Brother) – I am owning a small software development firm and even before starting this course sagar and me had lots of technical discussions, but when he informed me about this cyber security course that too from Tata STRIVE, I told him to go for it without having second thought in the mind. I would like to thank Tata STRIVE for such a great opportunity. And there are endless stories and appreciation from many parents. Hope we will be hearing such great experiences and will keep on impacting the lives for the betterment of the society.
